"The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why."

-Mark Twain.

It was the next morning already, and Kellen hated it already. There are a few reasons why, the first being obvious and the major one of which is that he didn't want to do dragon training. The second reason is that his twin sister, Yang, rudely woke him up early, for not wanting him to miss their first day of training. This was a normal thing for him though, back when the two were younger, Yang would always be the one to get up first in the family and wake him up, which she always did by jumping on him, when there was a big thing that day. Whether it was Snoggletog, or the first and last day of school, the Thawfest games, Bort Week, the Festival of Lights(the festival when they celebrated 400 years of berk), Loki day(were the two just prank each other all day), and finally, today, the first day of dragon training.

Kellen, who was in a grumpy mood, exited his house, walking to the dragon area with Yang. The two twins just walk together in silence, one being too excited to talk to the other, and the other too tired to deal with the other's excitement.

Kellen, rubbing his eye, just looks at Yang, seeing one of the biggest smiles he had seen on her ever. "How are you able to be this excited for dragon training?"

"How can you not be this excited? We finally get to learn how to properly fight dragons, and after we do, we get to join our parents in killing dragons." Yang said excitedly, running forward and turning back to look at her brother.

Kellen didn't answer her. He knew that she wouldn't understand why he wasn't excited. It's always been like this, Yang was the more energetic and social one out of the two, like their mom and dad, while Kellen was more reserved and quiet, like their mother. Kellen only truly showed his energy, which was him being open and more friendly, to the people closest to him, mainly Hiccup, Gobber-since he trained him and spent so much time with him-, and his friend in the woods.

But there were other reasons as well. Mainly his friend in the woods and what happened with the Night Fury yesterday. His friend in the woods grew up close to one dragon, raising it from an egg. He never met the dragon, mainly because she didn't want him to freak out and panic from the dragon, but she told him about what they can really be like. He did believe her, but only thought it was because she helped raise it. But what happened with the Night Fury said otherwise. He and Hiccup injured it and were going to kill it, but changed their minds. And when they freed the dragon, when it had its claws on their necks, it didn't kill them. Just roared at them and left.

Kellen was just zoning out, thinking about this when Yang just punched his shoulder to get his attention. "OW! What was that for?" "Um, hello, I was calling your name for the past five minutes." "Oh."

Kellen then realized where they were now, outside the Dragon Training Area. Kellen looking around saw the other teens. Ruffnut and Tuffnut were butting each other's heads, Fishlegs was talking to Weiss about dragon stats, Snotlout was checking out his muscles on his arms, and Astrid was waving over Yang, to which Yang waved back, leaving Kellen. Kellen looked back at the bridge seeing Hiccup approach with an axe he couldn't really hold well. Kellen, sighing, walked over to Hiccup, greeting him. "So I see uncle decided to enroll you too."

"Yup. Just what I wanted. So where is your weapon?" Hiccup sarcastically commented back, as he walked off the bridge.

"Didn't bring one today. I remember watching Gobber train vikings when we were kids. So I know that today is about a shield." Kellen simply stated, as he shrugged off Hiccup's sarcasm.

"Now are you all done talking amongst yourselves or are you ready to start?" Gobber yelled, interrupting everyone.

Everyone then walks down the entrance as Gobber lifts the gate up with one hand, "Welcome to Dragon Training!"

" No turning back."

"I hope I get some serious burns!"

"I'm hoping for some mauling, like on my shoulder or lower back."

"Yeah, it's only fun if you get a scar out of it."

"Yeah, no kidding, right? Pain. Love it." Hiccup sarcastically stated, as the teens look back to actually notice him and Kellen.

"Oh, great. Who let them in?"

"Let's get started! The recruit who does best will win the honor of killing his first dragon in front of the entire village."

"Hiccup already killed a Night Fury, so, does that disqualify him or...?"

"Can I transfer to the class with the cool Vikings?"

As the other teens made fun of Hiccup, Gobber approached Hiccup and Kellen,"Don't worry. You're small and you're weak. That'll make you less of a target! They'll see you as sick or insane and go after the more Viking-like teens instead."

"He's right, I've seen dragons go after the bigger vikings since they look more like a threat. And that won't be a problem for us." Kellen further reinsured Hiccup, as they stopped in line with the teens, Hiccup being next to Fishlegs, and Kellen next to Hiccup.

"Behind these doors are just a few of the many species you will learn to fight! The Deadly Nadder!"

"Speed: eight; Armor: sixteen."

"The Hideous Zippleback!"

"Plus eleven stealth times two."

"The Monstrous Nightmare!"

"Firepower: fifteen."

"The Terrible Terror!"

"Attack: eight; Venom: twelve!"

"The Singetail!"

"Shot Limit: ten!"

"CAN YOU STOP THAT?! And... the Gronckle!" Gobber yelled at Fishlegs, getting annoyed at Fishlegs notes.

"Jaw strength: eight." Fishlegs whispers to Hiccup and Kellen.

"Whoa, whoa, wait! Aren't you gonna teach us first?!" Snotlout panicked, Gobbers hand on the Gronckle's cage lever.

"I believe in learning on the job." Gobber stated, with a know it all tone. He then pushes down the lever, releasing the Gronckle, which promptly swallows rocks and starts blasting the teens.

"Today is about survival. If you get blasted... you're dead! Quick! What's the first thing you're going to need?"

"A doctor?!"

"Plus five speed?!"

"A weapon?"

"A shield!" Both Kellen and Astrid shouted last as they ran to grab shields.

"Shields! Go! Your most important piece of equipment is your shield! If you must make a choice between a sword or a shield, take the shield!" Gobber stated as most of the teens grab shields. Gobber then forces a shield to Hiccup. Everyone then got their shields… Well all except two.

"Get your hands off my shield!" "There's like a million shields!" Ruffnut and Tuffnut just had to pick the same shield, arguing over who has it, and locked in a tug of war for it.

"Take that one, it has a flower on it. Girls like flowers." Ruffnut responds to Tuffnut's statement by taking the shield and slams it onto Tuffnut's head. "Oops, now this one has blood on it."

The Gronckle flies towards the Twins and blasts their shield with a fireball, leaving them dazed on the ground. "Tuffnut, Ruffnut, you're out!"

Both twins couldn't help but daisley say "What?"

"Those shields are good for another thing: noise! Make lots of it to throw off a dragon's aim!" Gobber told them, further showing how he teaches. The remaining teens begin hitting their weapons against their shields, making the Gronckle shake its head, confused. Well, all but Yang and Kellen, who didn't bring weapons today, looked at each other and decided to work together by hitting each other's shields with their shields.

Gobber, now further supporting how he teaches, decided to ask a question while the teens were fighting for their lives as they circled the dragon making noise. "All dragons have a limited number of shots. How many does a Gronckle have?"

"Five?" Snotlout guessed but Weiss corrected him. "No, it's six you idiot!"

"Correct, six! That is enough to leave three of you still breathing." Fishlegs shield then gets blasted out of his hand as soon as Gobber says that. Making Fishlegs run away screaming for his life. "Fishlegs, out." Gobber bluntly stated. He then turns to Hiccup hiding behind a plank, "Hiccup, get in there!" To which he tried to get out but the Gronckle just shot at him, missing him and hitting right at the wall in front of him. Which he responds by hiding behind the plank again.

Snotlout, taking advantage of the opportunity, tries to woo Yang and Astrid. "So, anyway I'm moving into my parents' basement. You two should come by sometime to work out. You two look like you work out!" But the two just moved out of the way as Snotlout was hit with a blast while he wasn't looking. "Snotlout! You're done!"

Astrid and Yang ended up next to Kellen and Hiccup, who came out of hiding. "So, I guess it's just the four of us, huh?"

"Nope, just the two of you." Astrid replies as she and Yang run away, leaving Hiccup and Kellen. Kellen then realizes why they did that and runs at the Gronckle, pushing it off course with his shield right as it was firing, making the Gronckle miss them. But the shot still landed on Hiccup's shield, causing Hiccup to lose his shield and run after it, the dragon hot on his heels. "One shot left! Hiccup!" Gobber realizes that the Gronckle was now targeting only Hiccup, who was getting closer to the wall.

The Gronckle corners Hiccup, taking its aim. Gobber quickly tugs it away, not letting it kill his best friend's son, causing it to misfire its last shot. "And that's six! Go back to bed, ya overgrown sausage! You'll get another chance, don't you worry." Gobber locks it up back in its cage. He then turns to Hiccup, who was being help up to stand by Kellen, "Remember: a dragon will always - always - go for the kill." Gobber emphasizes that last part to Hiccup by staring directly in his eyes.

The scene cuts to Hiccup and Kellen in the forest again, at the same spot they met the Night Fury. Hiccup is holding and weighing the bola that caught the Night Fury with his hands. "So, why didn't you?"

"I don't know, maybe it didn't since we didn't kill him." Kellen suggested, standing next to him and looking around for any clues. Hiccup then walks to where they saw the dragon go, in hopes to find something. After a couple of seconds, the two enter a cove, surveying its emptiness.

"Well, this was stupid." He then notices some shiny black dragon scales on the floor. He picks one up. "What's that?" Kellen asks Hiccup, but before Hiccup has the chance to answer him the Night Fury swoops past them, crawling at the wall to get out of the cove, but falls back onto the ground, trying to settle down on the cove. The two hide at the entrance and get closer. Hiccup brings out his notebook and tries to make a sketch of it.

"Why don't you just... fly away?" Hiccups ask, to himself and Kellen. "I think that's why." Kellen then points at the Night Fury's tail. Hiccup, still sketching, notices what Kellen was pointing at. The Night Fury was missing one of its tail fins. He erases the fin on his drawing but he slips and drops his pencil, drawing the Night Fury's attention. It stares up at the two and recognizes them. But it didn't show any aggression. "We should head back now." Kellen suggested to Hiccup as he turned around to head back to the village.

Now the Scene cuts to the Great Hall, where Kellen and Hiccup just entered. The other teens all sit at a table with Gobber talking to them. "Alright. Where did Astrid go wrong in the ring today?"

"I mistimed my somersault dive. It was sloppy. It threw off my reverse tumble."

Ruffnut couldn't help but sarcastically commit to that. "Yeah, we noticed."

Snotlout, trying to show off to Astrid so he looks better, "No, no, you were great. That was so 'Astrid'."

Kellen and Hiccup arrive at the table and grab their food, sitting down and next to each other. "She's right, you have to be tough on yourselves. Where did Hiccup go wrong?"

The teens, using this opportunity, just committed, "Uh, he showed up?" "He didn't get eaten."

"He's never where he should be." Astrid bluntly stated, not caring about messing with Hiccup.

"Thank you, Astrid." Gobber then tosses a book on the table. "You need to live and breathe this stuff. The Dragon Manual. Everything we know about every dragon we know of." Thunder roars outside as the storm makes its presence known. Gobber, looking up for some reason, just tells them, "No attacks tonight. Study up."

"Wait, you mean, read?" "While we're still alive?" "Why read words when you can just kill the stuff the words tell you stuff about?" The twins and Snotlout complained.

"You idiots should especially read it. I doubt any of you know anything about dragons other than their name." Weiss says to them, trying to show off her knowledge.

"We get it Weiss, you know a lot about dragons." Yang just rolls her eyes at what Weiss said, not caring about the book even though Kellen and her would borrow it when they were kids and read it together. Sometimes with Ruby, but when she was old enough.

"Oh! I've read it like, seven times. There's this water dragon that sprays boiling water at your face. And-And there's this other one that buries itself for like a week–" Fishlegs looked excited to share his dragon knowledge, but for the exact opposite reason Weiss did. But before he could continue the twins cut him off. "Yeah, that sounds great. See, there was a chance I was going to read that…" "...But, now…"

"You guys read, I'll go kill stuff." Snotlout then stands up with the twins, Weiss, Yang and Fishlegs. "Oh, and there's this other one that has these spines that look like trees…"

"So I guess we'll share?" Hiccup asked Astrid, getting his hopes up a little. "Read it." Astrid just pushes the book to Hiccup as she also leaves. "All mine then. Wow, okay. So, I'll see you, uh... (The teens slam the door) tomorrow."

"Hey, I'll read it with you. I already read it a couple of times, but it never hurts to reread it." Kellen tells Hiccup, patting him on the back.

Some time passed and the two cousins were the only ones left in the Great Hall. The only light source was the three candles they lit to read. Hiccup opens the book, Kellen sitting next to him. "Dragon classifications. Strike Class, Fear Class, Mystery Class."

Hiccup flips the pages to show the dragons. "Thunderdrum: This reclusive dragon inhabits sea caves and dark tide pools. When startled, the Thunderdrum produces a concussive sound that can kill a man at close range. Extremely dangerous, kill on sight. Timberjack: This gigantic creature has razor sharp wings that can slice through full grown trees. Extremely dangerous, kill on sight. Scauldron: Sprays scalding water at its victim. Extremely dangerous." "AH" The sudden extra loud lighting scared the two teens, making them look outside. They then look back at the book, continuing reading it. "Changewing: Even newly hatched dragons can spray acid. Kill on sight. Gronckle, Zippleback, The Skrill, Boneknapper, Whispering Death." As they said the dragon's names, they could hear the dragons roar, as if the book was making it come to life. "Burns its victims, buries its victims, chokes its victims, turns its victims inside-out. Extremely dangerous, extremely dangerous, kill on sight, kill on sight, kill on sight…" Then Hiccup flips to the Night Fury page. No picture or information is shown on the page, making the two a bit at unease. "Night Fury: Speed, unknown. Size, unknown. The unholy offspring of lightning and death itself. Never engage this dragon. Your only chance: Hide and pray it does not find you." Kellen and Hiccup just look at each other, both intimidated by the description of the Night Fury. Hiccup then takes out his notebook and tosses it on the book of dragons, showing the drawing Hiccup made of the dragon where the drawing should be in the book.

Scene cuts to several longships gliding through fog, at the front one is Raven, Stoick, and Qrow. "I can almost smell them. They're close. Steady." "What do they smell like?" Qrow asks his older brother, clearly drunk from his canteen of alcohol. Raven just elbows him in the stomach for making the stupid question. Stoick, ignoring his younger siblings, just orders, "Take us in." To which a viking responds with, "Hard to port... for Helheim's gate." The boats disappear in the fog. A sudden jumpscare shows dragons attacking, the attacks shown from the flashes of light they cause as they fire at the boats.

We cut to the Arena, in the middle of a training session. There was a maze of wood walls in it. Everyone is in the maze, focusing, a shield and weapon in hand. For Kellen, he had a single sided axe like Hiccup has, and Yang had a mace. But Hiccup, who wasn't focusing, was asking Gobber questions about the book of dragons. "You know, I just happened to notice the book had nothing on Night Furies. Is there another book? Or a sequel? Maybe a little Night Fury pamphlet?" Then suddenly a Deadly Natter shot at him, destroying his axe. "Focus, Hiccup! You're not even trying!" Hiccup then runs away from the Nadder heading to him.

Gobber then focused back on teaching the class again, "Today is all about ATTACK! Nadders are quick and light on their feet! Your job is to be quicker and lighter!"

The Nadder finds Fishlegs, shooting its spines at him. But he blocks it with his shield. "AAAAAH! I'm really beginning to question your teaching methods!"

Gobber just watches them from above, "Look for its blind spot. Every dragon has one. Find it, hide in it, and strike!" As he says that, the twins run into the Nadder, staying still right in front of it.

Unfortunately for them, they start to argue…again. The two of them pushed back and forth before becoming side by side, pressing their head against each other. "Ugh! Do you ever bathe?" "If you don't like it, then just get your own blind spot!" "How about I give you one?!" The Nadder then attacks them, firing its blast, but unfortunately for the dragon they dodge. Gobber couldn't help but commit to the twins. "Blind spot, yes. Deaf spot? Not so much. Heh, heh, heh."

Hiccup then stops near the wall Gobber is on to continue asking questions. "Hey, so how would one sneak up on a Night Fury?" Gobber, getting tired of his questions about the Night Fury, just yells at him. "No one's ever met one and lived to tell the tale. NOW, GET IN THERE!" Hiccup then starts to walk backwards, distracted from still asking Gobber questions, " know, I know, but hypothetically–"

"Hiccup! Get down!" Astrid whispers to him. She, Snotlout, Kellen, and Weiss were all there, crouching at a corner, which down the hallway, was the Nadder. Then, each viking teen does a shield roll while the Nadder wasn't looking, a shield roll is when they do a normal forward roll but they push halfway with their shield to continue the roll and stand up. Each one of them does it successfully but Hiccup, with him not putting enough energy to continue the roll, and the shield being too heavy for him to do that. Hiccup then quickly stands up, running and screaming as the Nadder notices him and is now chasing after him.

The Nadder then went to the top of the maze to continue chasing Hiccup, but found other prey, in this case Snotlout and Astrid, staying still, thinking it would be easier to get them instead. Astrid was about to throw her axe at the dragon but Snotlout just pushed her aside, trying to show off to her. "Watch out, babe. I'll take care of this." Snotlout then tosses his hammer at Nadder, but completely misses it, like it was even close. Astrid just glared at him for what just happened, but Snotlout just played it off as they started to run away from the Nadder, who was now firing at them. "The sun was in my eyes, Astrid! What do you want me to do, block out the sun? I could do that, but I don't have time right now!"

Snotlout took an early turn but Astrid just continued forward, heading right to Hiccup. She then turns, making the Nadder crash into the wall, Hiccup surprisingly ignores what just happened to keep asking Gobber questions. The maze then starts to fall apart as the Nadder chases Astrid.

"They probably take the daytime off. You know, like a cat. Has anyone ever seen one napping?" Then the other teens ran right past him but he still continued to ignore them. "HICCUP, we have to go." Kellen shakes and shouts at his friend, seeing that the walls start toppling as Astrid starts leaping from wall to wall, the Nadder behind her. Astrid jumps off the last collapsing wall, right onto Hiccup. "HICCUP!" Astrid yells at him, lands on top of him, her axe stuck in his shield. Kellen meanwhile was trapped underneath the wall, not being able to move.

The twins, who were just watching this happen, decided rather than helping them, to make fun of them. "Oooh! Love on the battlefield!" "She could do better."

Astrid then tries to get rid of Hiccup, struggling since her axe was stuck in his shield. "Just... let me... why don't you…" Astrid then stands up to see the Nadder also getting up. She gasps as she tries to yank her axe out of Hiccup's shield some more. She then yanks the axe, which was still attached to Hiccup's shield, off his arm, pressing her foot against his face and then swings it at the Nadder. Making the dragon very disoriented and backing off for the rest of the day. All Gobber had to say about this was "Well done, Astrid."

Astrid then turns to Hiccup, rage in her eyes as she stares him down, pointing her axe at him. "Is this some kind of a joke to you?! Our parents' war is about to become ours! Figure out which side you're on." Hiccup looks up at her, after uncurling his body. Hiccup then looks around to find Kellen, only to see him getting out from underneath a fallen wall with help from Yang. Kellen then says thanks to his sister and starts to limply walk to Hiccup, his sister has a mixed look of relief but also a bit of anger on her face. She was glad he was overall ok, nothing broken but a bruised leg. But mad at Hiccup, blaming him for getting injured like this since all he did was stand around while Kellen tried to help him.

The scene cuts to the cove, where they saw the Night Fury yesterday. Hiccup tries to get in with a new shield in hand but it gets stuck in between the rocks. He then tries to pull it out but to no avail. He decides to give up on it and continue forward. Hiccup just now had one fish in his hand. Hiccup slowly walks more inwards, looking around for the Night Fury but not finding it anywhere.

The Night Fury turns out to be watching him from atop a rock. It then creeps out from behind rock, growing at him, making him gasp, slowly walking backwards. It sniffs at Hiccup and the fish but still growls at them, Hiccup just sticks out the fish for the dragon to eat it. It slowly approaches, then retreats upon seeing Hiccup's knife. Realizing the dragon feels threatened, Hiccup tries to grab his knife which it just growls at him. He still continues for the knife, grabbing it and dropping it next to him. The dragon, not satisfied yet, moves its head, signaling it wanting the knife farther away. Hiccup then gets his foot underneath the knife and kicks his knife into water. The Night Fury relaxes and quickly acts friendly by sitting down.

Hiccup then again sticks out the fish, hoping the dragon will eat it. It slowly approaches Hiccup, its back arched like that of a cat. It then opens its mouth to take the fish from Hiccup's hand, revealing a toothless mouth. "Huh. Toothless. I could've sworn you had…" But before Hiccup could finish the sentence, the dragon pops out his teeth suddenly out of his gums and he snatches the fish from Hiccup, chomping it in half and then licking his face. "..teeth."

The dragon approaches Hiccup, sniffing him as Hiccup back ups, falling down and stopping at a rock. "Uh, uh, no, no, no. I-I don't have any more." It stops getting closer to him and regurgitates half of the fish. Then the Night Fury sits down, similar to that of a human, just staring at him. Hiccup then starts to get a bit uncomfortable as the dragon proceeds to direct Hiccup through biting and swallowing it. Hiccup then smiles at him, which the dragon then tries to return Hiccup's smile. Hiccup then slowly stands up, reaching out his arm to the dragon, to which he then snarls and flies away.

But he couldn't fly very far, or well so he just landed on the other side of the cove. He then ignites a small patch of dirt as he walks around in a circle and sleeps on top of it. He then looks up as he hears a bird, watching it fly away from its nest. He turns his head to follow it, only to see a couple seconds later, Hiccup sitting down next to him. Grumpy, the dragon adjusts himself, making it so that his tail is blocking his face. Hiccup then slowly scoots closer, reaching out to touch the tail. The dragon, sensing this, lifts its tail up, looking at Hiccup. Hiccup then stands up and walks away, the dragon doing the same.

Later, after some time, Toothless, the name Hiccup has given to the Night Fury, was sleeping upside down, hanging upside down like a bat off of a huge root. It slowly starts to wake up to find Hiccup drawing Toothless in the sand. Toothless then approaches him, watching him as he draws Toothless. Hiccup, who was a bit tense since the dragon was right next to him, watching him, was now looking behind him, as Toothless had ripped out a tree branch. Toothless then uses a branch to 'draw' Hiccup in the dirt, as Hiccup watches in amazement but also in confusion.

Hiccup then stood up, seeing that Toothless had finished, and started to look around. He walked a little bit, until he stepped on one of the lines, making Toothless growl at him. Hiccup flinching, stood his leg up, making Toothless stop growling at him but instead pur. Hiccup, seeing this, placed his foot back on the line and off it, seeing how Toothless would growl whenever he put his foot on it and would pur when his foot wasn't on it. After a couple of times doing this, he steps over the line, looking back at Toothless, signaling to him that he now knows not to touch the lines. Hiccup then focused back on the ground and the lines, walking his way out of the drawing, making sure to not step on any lines.

Then when Hiccup gets out of the drawing, he feels Toothless breathing on top of him, turning back and facing the dragon, he sees he is right in front of him. Toothless then looks down at Hiccup with gentle eyes, Hiccup sees this and tries to reach out his arm. Toothless still growls at him but stops and looks at Hiccup. Hiccup then closes his eyes and looks away, fully reaching out his arm to Toothless. Toothless sees this with wide eyes, he hesitates but trusts Hiccup and touches his nose to Hiccup's hand. Hiccup then looks back at Toothless, with an unbelieved look on his face. Toothless just snorts at this and runs away.

It's now night as the scene changes to on top of the watchtower. Everyone in dragon training was there, cooking their dinner at the fire pit as Gobber told all of them about how he lost his limbs. Kellen and Hiccup though weren't listening though, having heard this a thousand times before from Gobber since he trained them in the blacksmith shop. Hiccup was also just thinking about what to do with Toothless, while Kellen was thinking about what his friend in the woods told him earlier. This was the reason why Kellen wasn't this Hiccup this afternoon. But other than that, everyone else was paying attention to Gobber. "...And with one twist, he took my hand, and swallowed it whole. And I saw the look on his face: I was delicious. He must have passed the word, because it wasn't a month before another one of them took my leg." Gobber was swinging around his full chicken as he told them this, using it to make his point in certain ways.

Fishlegs, think for a bit, committed "Isn't it weird to think that your hand was inside a dragon? Like if your mind was still in control of it, you could have killed the dragon from the inside by... crushing his heart, or something." Some of the teens looked gross out by this, mainly Weiss. Snotlout, though, took a different approach. "I swear, I'm so angry right now! I'll avenge your beautiful hand and your beautiful foot. I'll chop off the legs of every dragon I fight. With my face!" He emphasized that by pointing at his face, when he said that.

"Un-unh. It's the wings and the tails you really want. If it can't fly, it can't get away. A downed dragon is a dead dragon." Gobber made his point to the teens by ripping off his chicken's wings, eating it. Kellen and Hiccup though looked at each other, both having the same idea about Toothless. "Alright. I'm off to bed. You should be, too. Tomorrow we get to the big boys. Slowly but surely making our way up to the Monstrous Nightmare. But who'll win the honor of killing it?" All the teens look excited, even saying they are going to kill it. But while they argued about who was going to kill it, Hiccup and Kellen left, leaving their food, making their way down to the blacksmith shop.

Later, when the village was asleep, the two started to get to work. They heated up the metal, bending it to where it needs to be. Pounding and grinding the rods then cooling them off in water. They then sewed and cut the cloth so it was the size and shape as a tail fin. Then they did some final measurements and weighing of the fake tail for Toothless. When they were done making the new tail, they looked at the Night Fury diagram Hiccup made and the fake tail, and then looked at each other with smiles on their faces.

Now the next morning, Hiccup and Kellen woke up extra early to make the trip to the cove so no one would see the new tail they made for Toothless. Hiccup was holding Toothless's prosthetic fin while also carrying a basket full of fish, Kellen was also carrying a basket full of fish, hoping to get on the dragon's good side.

Hiccup and Kellen then walk to Toothless, but Toothless just growls at Kellen. That was until they dump all their fish to the ground, to which Toothless immediately knew that Kellen was a friend. "Hey, Toothless. I brought breakfast. I hope you're hungry. Okay, that's disgusting. Uh... we've got some salmon, some nice Icelandic cod, and a whole smoked eel." Toothless stilled approach with caution, as he didn't fully trust Kellen, and he smelled something wrong. Then after moving some of the fish around, Toothless saw what he was smelling, the eel. Toothless growls in fear at the sight of the eel, making Kellen pick it up. "No, no, no, no! It's okay. Yeah, I don't really like eel much either." "Same here so are we all friends here right Toothless?" Kellen asked Toothless, but the dragon wasn't paying any attention to him as he was eating the fish now that Kellen threw it away with Hiccup.

While Kellen just watched Toothless eat, fascinated by him since he never was this close to a dragon without fighting it, and Hiccup made his way to Toothless tail as he was eating. Hiccup tries to lay down Toothless' new tail fin next to Toothless tail, but Toothless keeps moving his tail. So Hiccup sat down on Toothless' tail to keep it still as he attached the new fake tail fin. While Hiccup was attaching Toothless' new fin, Toothless felt the fin Hiccup was attaching, dropping the fish in his mouth that Kellen gave him, he started to spread his wings. "Um, Hiccup? Are you done? I think you should be done now?!" Kellen asks Hiccup, with him backing up away from Toothless, knowing what the dragon was going to do. But Hiccup wasn't paying Kellen any attention and was just talking to himself. "It's okay. Okay... okay... There. That's not too bad. It works"

Toothless takes off with Hiccup literally on his tail, Hiccup screaming the entire time. "I tried to warn him. Oh well." Kellen then sits down on a rock, watching Toothless flying with Hiccup hanging on for his dear life.

Meanwhile in the air, Hiccup notices that Toothless's new fin isn't full out, limiting his flight, making him head into the cliff. "Whoa! No! No! No!" Hiccup sees this and quickly adjusts the tail fin, making them dodge the cliff wall. Heading straight up from the ground, far above the forest, Hiccup turns Toothless tail in excitement. "OH, MY- IT'S WORKING! YES! YES, WE DID IT!" Toothless flys back down into the cove, noticing Hiccup is still holding onto him. Toothless then turns sharply, throwing Hiccup off him and into the water. Then, unable to steer or control the fake fin on his own, Toothless then crashes into the lake. The dragon was a little disappointed that he couldn't fly on his own, but Kellen and Hiccup on the other hand. "AAAAAGGGGHHHHH! Yeah!" "THAT WAS AWESOME!"

Now later in the day. The teens yet again had dragon training, this time much later in the day since Gobber needed some more time cleaning up the mess from last class. This time though the teens didn't have any weapons or shields but just buckets of water. The gates of one of the dragon cages explodes as it's open, sending out green fog that blocks everyone from seeing the dragon and each other. The fog causes the teens to separate into groups, Astrid and Ruffnut, Snotlout and Tuffnut, Fishlegs and Hiccup, and finally, Weiss, Yang, and Kellen. "Today is about teamwork. Now, a wet dragon head can't light its fire. The Hideous Zippleback is extra tricky. One head breathes gas, the other head lights it. Your job is to know which is which." Gobber told the teens, who were now fully submerged in the fog.

"This is good. Being teamed up with two others means I have a higher chance of survival." Weiss committed as the three were back to back, forming a triangle. "Wow, you think so highly of us." Kellen sarcastically committed, him and Yang thinking about the same thing. Feeding Weiss to the dragon if someone needs to get eaten today, of course they didn't say this out loud.

Meanwhile with Fishlegs and Hiccup, Fishlegs broke down into nerves. So doing what he always does when he is nervous, he states dragon facts. "Razor sharp, serrated teeth that inject venom for pre-digestion. Prefers ambush attack, by crushing its victims–" "Will you please stop that?!" Hiccup interrupted Fishlegs, since what fishlegs was saying was making him on edge.

Now with Snotlout and Tuffnut. "If that dragon shows either of his faces, I'm gonna- there!" Snotlout thought he saw the dragon, so he and Tuff threw the water they had at it. But it was no dragon, but instead two wet and angry female teen vikings. "Hey! It's us, idiots!" Ruffnut shouts at her brother. Turns out the two angry female vikings were Ruffnut and Astrid. "Your butts are getting bigger. We thought you were a dragon." Tuffnut joked at his sister. "Not that there's anything wrong with a dragon-esque figure- Ow!" Snotlout tried to get on Astrid's good side still so she will date him. But all he got this time was a fist to the face. Ruffnut, following her lead, throws her bucket at Tuffnut, who is then dragged into the wall of smoke. "Wait." Astrid holds out her hand but before she could react a tail knocks them off their feet. Tuffnut then comes running out of the mist, screaming "OH, I'M HURT! I AM VERY MUCH HURT!"

The mist has cleared up so now all the teens are together again. Now the ones still standing just watch as Tuffnut runs away. Fishlegs couldn't help but make an ominous comment. "Chances of survival are dwindling into single-digits now." One of the Zippleback heads emerges from the mist. Fishlegs throws water at its face, Weiss doing the same thing out of panic. Unfortunately for the two dragon nerds, it was the wrong head. The two couldn't help but look at each other. "Oh. Wrong head." The head then sprays a large stream of green gas at the two, making them run off screaming.

The head turns its attention to the three left standing. Yang, Kellen, and Hiccup. The other head then comes into view, spitting electrical sparks. "This is great. Just great. You boys have a plan." "Hit it with water." "Sounds like a good plan." Kellen and Yang just talk back to each other, backing up with Hiccup. Hiccup then decides to take the lead of the three, using his brain. "There are three of us and we know what head makes the spark. So we should all throw water at that head together." Kellen just smiled as he nodded at Hiccup, Yang just looked surprised but still nodded. She wasn't used to her cousin taking the lead and having confidence like this.

The three then rush the Zippleback, throw water at it. Most of the water misses, but some of it hits its head. Unfortunately, so did the bucket holding the water hit the dragon's head. The dragon, who couldn't light its gas now, was mad and continued to approach them. Gobber was about to step in when the dragon started to retreat when Hiccup came closer to it. Everyone just watches Hiccup in shock and in amazement as he drives the Zippleback into the cage. "Back! Back! Back! BACK! Now, don't you make me tell you again! Yes, that's right! Back into your cage. Now think about what you've done." Hiccup then pulls out the eel he tried to feed Toothless earlier around his neck, and throws it into the cage, making the Zippleback coward against the wall as he closes the door.

Everyone just stares at Hiccup with shock, Weiss and Fishlegs even drop their buckets from shock. Well all except Kellen. He just had a huge smile on his face and was throwing Hiccup a thumbs up. "Okay! So, are we done? Because I and Kellen got some things we need to, uh... Yep. I'll... see-see you tomorrow!" Hiccup just starts to walk away, with Kellen following him as everybody else just continues to stare in shock.

We now do a couple of scene changes in which I will be doing them in the next paragraphs.

We then see Hiccup and Kellen working/sewing on Toothless's saddle so Hiccup can ride him, but also going over ideas for controlling the tail. Later they bring it down to the cove, chasing Toothless as he is being playful when they are trying to put it on. Hiccup then rides on Toothless in the cove, holding a rope attached to Toothless prosthetic fin, Kellen taking down notes as they fly. Hiccup then pulls too hard on the rope, making Toothless swing to the side and Hiccup falling off.

Later Kellen and Hiccup are going over ways to make sure Hiccup stays attached to Toothless during flight. They decided to do a rope that can be attached to a hook on the saddle. They head back to the cove, Toothless flying better this time, more used to Hiccup being on his back. This time though, Kellen is watching from the top of the cove. Hiccup also has a rope attached to his left foot for the fin, the two thought it would be a better idea then pulling it. Unfortunately, the constant moving of the foot causes both Toothless and Hiccup to crash into some tall grass, with Kellen chasing after them. Kellen sees Hiccup ok, and standing but no Toothless in sight. They both walk back to where Toothless crashed to find him rolling around in bliss, in what they now call 'dragon nip'.

Now back in the area, we see that the singetail is up, acting similar to a raging bull, it crashes into Tuffnut, sending him flying. The pure and bright yellow dragon then rushes Hiccup. But Hiccup sticks out his arm that has the dragon nip, causing the dragon to relax and be incapacitated. Later on the bridge to the village, all the teens, except Astrid, were surrounding Hiccup, asking him questions like, "What was that?" "Some kind of trick?" "What did you do?" "How'd you do that?" "Can you teach me how to do that?" "It was really cool. "Hey, Hiccup!" "Hey, Hiccup, I've never seen a dragon do that before!" But, Hiccup wanting to meet up with Toothless, and Kellen, who didn't have to deal with the other teens, made an excuse and walked back to the area, or really the woods. "I left my axe back in the ring. You guys go on ahead. I'll catch up with you."

Back in the cove, Kellen was taking note in a journal of some kind while Hiccup was petting/scratching Toothless. Then Hiccup tried to scratch underneath Toothless's chin, or where his chin would be, to which the dragon dropped down and fell asleep. Kellen saw this and quickly, with excitement, wrote what just happened down.

Later back in the area, the teens were against the Nadder again but this time, there was no maze. Astrid threw her axe at the Nadder as the Nadder just deflected it with its horn? The spike coming out of its nose. Astrid then dodges but Hiccup drops his weapons, making the dragon curious. Then Astrid yells as she tries to attack the Nadder again. But Hiccup begins to scratch it, eventually scratching the sweat spot, making the Nadder fall asleep.

Now at dinner, in the Main Hall. Hiccup and Kellen grab their food and sit down at a table alone. Then the other teens and even viking in the village surrounded the two asking them questions, since Kellen also showed some similar skills from the area. Astrid, who didn't move, was furious as she slammed her cup down on the table.

Back down in the cove, we see Hiccup messing around with Toothless. Hiccup had polished his hammer and brought it down to the cove, its shininess making a shiny spot of light. Toothless just so happens to want to catch it that he is chasing around the cove for it. Kellen tries to take notes of it but can't, due to how much he is dying of laughter. Hiccup, having had enough of that, decides to put away the hammer, making Toothless wonder where the shiny spot of light went. "Hey, why did you do that?" Kellen asks, finally being able to breathe normally again. "Well I have an idea for you?" Hiccup states as he walks over to Toothless and prepares him for flight. "Oh! And what's that?" Kellen asks in surprise at what his friend is doing. "How would you like to fly Toothless around the island by yourself?"

Author note: Please read.

Hello Science emperor here. I hope you have enjoyed the story so far. I know this is a little sooner than what I promised, I got sick over the weekend, so for the past 4 days, I had nothing to do but lay in bed, throw up, and write to cure my boredom. I'm pretty sure I got sick from my brother, who got sick after china. Also now my mom is sick as well, getting sick from me though, so that's great.

I also realized that I would like to post the Snoggletog/Gift of the Night Fury chapter on Christmas or Christmas week. So I will try my best to do that.

Also, Next chapter is where we get more separated from the cannon, since in the next chapter, I will be introducing Kellen's dragon. This dragon is my favorite so I'll let you guys guess what dragon it is. Another thing, Kellen's friend in the woods is a massive and important character to the story and Kellen. I won't tell you who she is until we get more into Riders and Defenders of Berk. Either near the end Riders of Berk ends, or near when Defender of Berk begins. I haven't fully decided. Now, I still need a dragon for Ruby, so please commit what dragon I should give her. If you don't know what isn't acceptable then read the Author note from the last chapter.

Last thing now, I have gotten a lot of DM or on the website, PM's, about making my story visual. I'm afraid to say that I will not be open to doing that with people YET! Key word yet. I don't feel fully comfortable or safe doing it, so when I get more input and do this for a longer time, then I will talk about it more. Anyways I hope you guys are having a good start to the week, unlike me, who got sick in the beginning.
