Chapter 40: Knocks on the Door

Gaara pulled the door open after two raps as Akira quickly pulled her hand back. If he was surprised, it hadn't been apparent.

They stared at each other a moment before she spoke.

"Am I interrupting anything?"

"No." His eyes gleamed, soft and inviting. Her stomach twisted. Was it usually this hard?

"…Would you like to see the gardens?" Gaara tilted his head confused.

"Was I misinformed of a meeting?"

"No, I-I… um…" She paused unsure how to proceed. Gaara nodded pulling the door shut behind him as he stepped closer to Akira. She stepped back, startled.

"Lead the way."
