Ashe
As my eyes fluttered open, the morning sun cast a warm glow through the curtains. I stretched lazily, Blu, our loyal German Shepherd, was already awake, his tail thumping against the bed excitedly. I think he was trying to jump up but he was too little it made me giggle.
A sudden thought jolted me fully awake. Today was Garen's party! I had to remind my mommy before the day slipped away. I slipped out of bed, my bare feet padding softly on the wooden floor as I made my way to my mommy's room.
Standing at the door, I hesitated for a moment, listening to the soft, rhythmic breathing from within. I didn't want to wake her too abruptly, but I knew how important it was to remind her. Taking a deep breath, I gently pushed the door open, peeking inside.
"Mommy," I whispered, my voice soft yet insistent. "Mommy, are you awake?"
My mommy stirred, turning slightly as she blinked sleepily at me. A smile tugged at her lips as she saw me standing there, a look of determination on my face.
"Ashe, sweetie, what is it?" my mommy asked, her voice gentle and warm.
"It's Garen's party today, mommy," I reminded her, stepping closer and sitting on the edge of the bed. "We can't forget!"
Her eyes widened slightly as she processed the information, then she nodded, her smile growing wider. "Of course, we won't forget. Thank you for reminding me, Ashe"
Relief washed over me as I grinned back at her. I knew how much Garen's party meant to him and I was determined to make sure we were there to celebrate. Blu trotted over, nuzzling my hand as if to give his own approval.
"Let's get ready then," my mommy said, sitting up and stretching. "We have a big day ahead of us."
As I was about to leave the room, another thought crossed my mind. I turned back to my mommy, who was now making her bed.
"Mommy," I asked, my voice filled with curiosity, "did you remember to ask Aunt Skye to sing for Garen at the party?"
My mommy paused, a thoughtful expression crossing her face. "I did, sweetie," she replied with a reassuring smile. "Aunt Skye said she'd be delighted to sing for Garen. She even mentioned she has a special song prepared just for him."
My eyes lit up with excitement. Aunt Skye's performances were always magical, and I knew her song would make Garen's day even more special. "That's wonderful, mommy! Garen will be so happy."
"Yes, he will," my mommy agreed, patting my head affectionately. "Now, let's make sure we're all set for the party."
I nodded eagerly and rushed back to my room to finish getting dressed, my mind buzzing with anticipation for all the surprises the day held. With Aunt Skye's song and all his friends gathered together, Garen's party was sure to be a memorable celebration.
As I finished getting ready, another piece of good news entered my mind. Jaxon had offered to take me to the party, which meant Janna, my pesky baby sister, wouldn't be tagging along. I was relieved knowing I wouldn't have to spend the day keeping an eye on her. Instead, I could focus entirely on enjoying Garen's celebration without any interruptions.
With everything set, I grabbed my gift for Garen and headed out the door, my heart brimming with excitement for the day ahead.
Jaxon drove carefully, and soon we arrived at Garen's house. As I stepped out of the car, my eyes eagerly scanned the surroundings. To my surprise, there weren't many decorations, nor were there many friends around. An unexpected wave of sadness washed over me.
Had something gone wrong? I had imagined a vibrant scene filled with balloons, streamers, and the cheerful chatter of friends. Yet, the quiet atmosphere seemed to suggest otherwise. I clutched my gift tighter, feeling a bit apprehensive, but determined to make the best of the situation.
Jaxon noticed my downcast expression and put a reassuring hand on my shoulder. "Don't worry," he said with a gentle smile. "I'm sure everyone will be here soon. Sometimes parties take a little while to get going."
His words brought me a small measure of comfort, and I nodded, trying to keep a hopeful outlook. After all, Garen's happiness was what mattered most, and I was determined to help make his day special, no matter what.
The inside of the house had some decorations, but not a lot. It was clear that effort had been made, yet it felt subdued compared to what I had imagined. As I stepped further in, I noticed Taliyah standing alone, her expression mirroring my own curiosity and concern.
"Where are the other guests?" I wondered aloud, my voice tinged with disappointment. Taliyah shrugged, looking just as puzzled as I felt.
We exchanged uncertain glances before deciding to wait patiently. Despite the sparse decorations and absence of friends, I held onto the hope that the party would still turn out to be a wonderful event for Garen. After all, the day was still young, and there was plenty of time for surprises yet to unfold.
Garen thanked Taliyah and me for coming as the doorbell rang, his face brightening with a hopeful smile. He moved swiftly to answer it, revealing a group of smiling friends carrying colorful balloons and wrapped gifts. The sight of them brought an immediate surge of relief and joy to my heart.
"See, I told you," Jaxon whispered with a grin, nudging me playfully. The atmosphere quickly transformed as more guests began to arrive, each one bringing their own energy and excitement to the gathering.
The once subdued house soon echoed with laughter and spirited conversations. Guests mingled, sharing stories and engaging in lively chatter. The decorations, though simple, seemed to come alive with the presence of friends and the warmth of their camaraderie.
Aunt Skye's voice could be heard over the cheerful din as she prepared to perform her special song for Garen. Her melodic voice filled the room, captivating everyone and adding a touch of magic to the celebration.
I found myself lost in the beauty of the moment, the earlier apprehension fading away completely. Garen's happiness was evident in his wide grin and sparkling eyes, and I knew that the day was turning out to be everything he had hoped for and more.
As the party continued, I felt a deep sense of contentment. Surrounded by friends, laughter, and music, I was reminded of the simple joys that come from being with loved ones. Garen's celebration had indeed become a memorable event, one that we would all cherish for years to come.
Garen came up to me with excitement, his eyes sparkling with gratitude. "Thank you so much for making this party special," he said, his voice brimming with sincerity. "I couldn't have asked for a better celebration."
I smiled, feeling a warm glow in my heart. "I'm just glad you're happy, Garen. That's all that matters."
He nodded, his happiness evident in every gesture. "This is exactly what I needed. Thanks to you and everyone who came, it's been the best day ever."
As he rejoined the festivities, I stood back and watched, a deep sense of fulfillment washing over me. The joy on Garen's face, the laughter of friends, and the harmonious melody of Aunt Skye's song all blended together to create a perfect tableau of happiness. It was a day to remember, a testament to the power of friendship and the simple yet profound joy of being surrounded by those who care.
As the afternoon began to wind down, Garen approached me once more, his curiosity piqued. "Who is that guy that follows you around?" he asked, his innocent eyes wide with wonder.
A smile curved on my lips as I glanced over at Jaxon, who was engaged in a spirited conversation with some of the other guests. "Jaxon is a very special friend of mine," I said softly. "He's always looking out for me, making sure I'm safe and happy. In many ways, he's, my protector."
Garen's eyes sparkled with understanding, and he nodded thoughtfully. "He must be really important to you."
"He is," I replied, feeling a warm wave of affection for Jaxon. "Just like all of our friends who came today. Each one of them makes our lives a little brighter."
With a satisfied smile, Garen hugged me tightly. "I'm glad Jaxon is here too. Today was the best birthday ever."
As the sun began to set, casting a golden hue over the garden, I noticed Jaxon smiling at me from across the yard. His demeanor was always so calm and reassuring, and today was no different. I waved back, feeling grateful for his constant presence.
Before we headed back home, I joined my friends for one last game. Laughter echoed through the air as we chased each other, momentarily forgetting the passage of time. In the midst of our play, my thoughts wandered to my little sister, Janna. At just one year old, she was full of boundless energy and curiosity. I knew she would want to join in the fun, even if her idea of playing was more about toddling around and giggling at everything.
With a sigh, I prepared myself for the inevitable chaos that would ensue once we got home. But deep down, I cherished these moments with Janna. Despite the occasional exasperation, her innocent joy and wonder made every day a little brighter.
As we wrapped up our game and gathered our things, I glanced back at the garden, now bathed in the soft twilight glow. Today had been perfect in so many ways, and I knew it was memories like these that would stay with us forever.
Jaxon asked me if I had fun as we walked home, his voice gentle and filled with genuine curiosity. I looked up at him, a smile spreading across my face as I nodded.
"Yes, it was a wonderful day," I replied, my heart swelling with gratitude. "Everything was perfect, from the company to the games. I'm so glad we could all be together."
Jaxon chuckled softly, his eyes twinkling in the dimming light. "I'm happy to hear that. It's important to cherish these moments."
As we continued our walk, the sound of distant laughter and the soft hum of night insects accompanied us. The day had been full of joy and laughter, a reminder of the simple pleasures in life. And as we neared home, I felt a deep sense of contentment, knowing that with friends like Garen, Taliyah and the love of family, every day held the promise of something beautiful.
As I suspected, Janna was waiting for me, her little arms wrapping around my legs the moment I stepped through the door. Her eyes sparkled with glee, and an infectious giggle escaped her lips as she looked up at me. I couldn't help but laugh along with her, scooping her up into my arms.
"Did you miss me, Janna?" I asked, receiving an enthusiastic nod in response.
She babbled excitedly, her tiny hands patting my cheeks. It was moments like these that made all the hustle and bustle worthwhile. Holding her close, I felt a profound sense of love and responsibility.
"Let's go find Mommy and I will tell you about the party" I suggested, as Janna followed me into the kitchen were mommy was making dinner.
"How was the party?" she asked, her hands deftly working on preparing dinner.
"It was wonderful," I said, setting Janna down and joining her at the counter. "Garen had so much fun! and everyone had a great time. Jaxon and I even managed to win a couple of games."
She smiled, her eyes gliding over to Janna who was now playing with her toys on the floor. "I'm glad you enjoyed it. Did Garen like his gifts?."
I nodded, feeling the warmth of the day still with me. "Absolutely. and Aunt Skye sang amazing mommy! I wish you'd sing more your voice is pretty too" I said.
A quiet sigh escaped her lips, and I sensed a hint of wistfulness in her eyes. Singing had always been special to her, a cherished part of her past that she rarely shared with anyone now. I often wondered why she kept that part of herself hidden, why the melodies that once filled her life with joy remained unspoken in our home.
"Maybe one day, you'll sing for us again," I whispered gently, placing a reassuring hand on hers. She smiled softly, but there was a distant look in her eyes, as if she was lost in memories long gone.
"I hope so," she replied, her voice barely above a whisper. "Maybe one day."
