"Another pair has been made," spoke Ozpin as he drank from his mug, watching the screen as Rowan and Teddy joined. "Yes, but that mister Jin seems rather … violent," replied Glynda with concern over Teddy's behavior. "Yes, but he's still young and has time to grow and improve. So don't worry for now. All we can do is wait and see. But mister Park does not notice that he already has a partner. Quite the passive semblance that young man has. Though it is slightly amusing seeing him grow angst," replied Ozpin with a smile as he took another sip of his coffee while looking at an increasingly panicked Ben through the tablet. Glynda looked at him with mild annoyance but said nothing else. She looked back at the tablet to monitor the rest of the pairs.
Gray and Eugene finally reached the temple and noticed many pedestals lined with chess pieces. "Hmm. Uh, how about this gold king?" Eugene asked Gray. Gray responded with a nod and turned around. He then noticed a gloomy Ben walking in their direction. "Oh hey. You guys haven't seen anyone still needing a partner?" asked Ben with evident gloom in his voice. "No," responded Gray. He then saw Ben slumping downward as he walked towards them. "Ben!" Yelled Gogo as soon as he spotted Ben. Ben turned around with hope, filling his eyes with the thought that Gogo could be his partner, and then he noticed Gerard beside him. Gerard began laughing when he saw Ben without a partner as they got closer.
"WOW, you still haven't found a partner yet. Rough luck, buddy," laughingly said Gerard to Ben. "Urgh, don't rub it in asshole," said Ben, who was not finding his predicament amusing. "OI! Eugene Finally found Yuh pal," Excitedly said Rowan as he and Teddy finally made it to the temple. "Nice to see you have a partner too, Rowan," responded Eugene as Rowan and Teddy reached the growing group. Ben gave a gloomy sigh at the mention of a teammate.
Not caring, Teddy grabbed a gold bishop from one of the pedestals. Gerard, too, grabbed a gold bishop as Eugene and Rowan talked. Teddy noticed Gerard's height and frowned upon himself. He disliked how Gerard unintentionally made him look small. "Damn it, everyone has a partner except me! At this point, I will get kicked out of Beacon!" Yelled Ben in dismay as he fell to his knees, looking up in the sky. "You know I've been here the whole time, Ben," spoke Waldo Amudo, who finally made his appearance known as he played a game on his scroll, not looking up toward the group. "Oh shit, Waldo! I forgot you were also applying to Beacon. Haha, I finally have a partner." Ben happily spoke as he then grabbed the other remaining gold king. "Ah, Waldo, when did you get here?" spoke Gogo in surprise, as he had just noticed his friend. "Eh, I've been here with you guys the whole time," responded Waldo, still playing his game. *Flashback - Waldo is inserted behind and next to Ben and Gogo through flashbacks of the prior day. - Flashback*
"Dude, you know it's hard to remember you're there because of your semblance," frowned Ben as he spoke to Waldo. "Yeah, I know," smiled Waldo back in response. Welp, we all have relics now, so let's head back to the cliff," said Ben. Everyone agreed with Ben, so all eight boys began to walk back to the cliffside from which they were launched. As they walked, they introduced themselves to each other. "So I'm Ben." "And I'm Alex, but you can all call me Gogo." "I'm Gerard." Sup mates, I'm Rowan, the Vaucan Reaper." "I'm Teddy." "Hi, um, I'm Eugene." "I'm Gray Yeon." "Sup, I'm Waldo Amudo."
The boys walked silently, but all felt varying excitement because they were almost officially Beacon students. As they walked, they began to hear the yells of three girls. "Huh?" Said Rowan. "What is it?" Asked Eugene. "I hear two girls yelling at each other coming from the sky. And another screaming as if they're being flung from across the forest," answered Rowan. They stopped moving to hear the yelling better. "Huh, you're right," commented Gogo. "Well, I hope that those yells don't awaken any Grimm," yawned Ben as they continued to walk.
A gigantic Grimm begins to awaken in a cave, annoyed by the yelling. It rouses from its slumber and takes in the scent of eight people. At its age, it realizes that the Beacon initiates have begun their yearly initiation, meaning no high-level hunter accompanies them. Nearby, resting and waiting for a moment of weakness, another elderly Grimm rises and stalks over to the eight boys. Both Grimm notices each other and instantly decides to help one another. Sometimes, one predator must enlist the help of another to bring down its prey. And so the Ursa Major and Alpha Beowolf walk together to attack the eight boys.
"Hey, hold up. Something is coming our way," cautiously said Teddy. Rowan took a protective stance: "He's right. I'm hearing two Grimm walking our way." The boys begin to spread out slightly, waiting for what is to come when suddenly Ben gets tackled.
The Alpha Beowolf begins its assault and tackles Ben. After tackling him, it throws him through two trees. It looks back at those closest to it and decides to attack Eugene, running at him as it sees him as the weakest link. Gray, without hesitation, uses his whip to pull Eugene away and towards him. Eugene lands on his back in front of Gray. Without losing speed, the Alpha Beowolf turns and charges towards the two. 'Damn, if I were alone, I would be able to dodge it, but Eugene isn't skilled or fast enough to get away. I have to shoot it in the eye and hope its sudden loss of accuracy will give Eugene enough breathing room to move out of the way.' thought Gray as he aimed his pistol at the eye of the Alpha Beowolf and shot.
'Crap,' thought Eugene. The Alpha was skilled enough to move its head downward slightly so that the bullet hit its armored head instead, and just as it was about to pounce Eugene, Waldo suddenly hit and shot it in its side with his staff. Waldo came in clutch as he launched the Alpha Beowolf far away enough that it completely missed Eugene. But it wasn't knocked down as it rolled and instantly went for another attack on Eugene. At that moment, Eugene was about to speak to activate his semblance and give himself some breathing room when Ben came barreling in like a bull, punching the Alpha Beowolf in the face and launching it into a thick tree. Giving a reassuring, confident smile, Ben said, "Don't worry, guys, after all, I'm Big Ben." He looked toward the Alpha Beowolf, a serious look in his eyes, and said, "The only thing you guys need to do is to make sure it doesn't run away. Otherwise, leave the rest to me." With his semblance active, Ben readied himself for an oncoming assault. He puts his fists up and waits for the Alpha Beowolf to come at him. And so it began. It came running, focusing on Ben; Ben himself charged head-on. When it finally made contact with Ben, he dodged its right arm swipe, slammed his left fist on its face, and instantaneously uppercut it with his right fist. It flew up slightly and landed on the ground with a thud.
The Alpha Beowolf tried to move away but was hit by Waldo and dragged by Gray, sending it back to Ben, who continued his assault. Each one of Ben's punches felt like boulders falling on it. Eugene used his semblance to give Ben a power-up and weaken the Alpha Beowolf for one final attack, "Ben, end it now! You Can Do It! Destroy That Ugly Thing!" Feeling a boost in power, Ben took advantage of the weakened state of the Alpha Beowolf and sucker-punched it into the ground, killing it in one final blow.
While Ben, Waldo, Gray, and Eugene fought the Alpha Beowolf. Gerard, Gogo, Rowan, and Teddy fought the Ursa Major. While the Alpha Beowolf has speed, the Ursa Major has durability. Rowan and Gerard shot at it while Teddy and Gogo attacked it from its sides. Teddy unleashed his semblance, granting him faster mobility and enhancing his attacks. Gogo unleashed his semblance, and with every consecutive punch, his punches became stronger. The Ursa Major, annoyed by this, swung around and slammed the ground, forcing Teddy and Gogo to jump away. "This no good guys! Regroup on me. We have to make a plan!" Yelled Gerard as the others regrouped towards him. "Ok, here's the plan. I'll take the brunt of the damage and attack while you all cover me for support. Ok, go!"
"Anything better?" asked Teddy. "Nope," yelled Gerard as he ran, activating his semblance and increasing his speed immensely. The moment he got within kicking range, Gerard gave a front kick to the face of the Ursa Major, shooting it simultaneously with his gun shoe to give his already increased attack a boost in kicking power. The Ursa Major stumbles back a bit but recovers instantly, going for the attack on Gerard when it gets slammed in the face by Rowan's hyper elbow, making it stumble and fall onto the ground. 'Now's my chance,' thought Teddy. Using his enhanced gauntlets, Teddy jumped over it onto its back and began slashing through it, injuring it. The Ursa Major slams itself backward onto the ground to ward off Teddy, making him jump away. As it stood up again, Gogo came in yelling and rapidly punched it in the stomach, injuring it immensely. But the Ursa Major, not dropping yet, swats at Gogo, but Gerard pushes him away, taking the hit. Teddy runs and flies in, drop-kicking it from behind to give Gerard time to get back up. Gerard stands again, panting and tired, and attacks to finish it. Running at it before it could adequately react, Gerard kicked and shot it in the stomach with his left foot and then, with all his might, kicked and shot it again in the stomach, putting a hole in it and killing it.
"Phew, that was intense, wasn't it, guys," said Ben to Gray, Eugene, and Waldo, even though Ben had just forgotten Waldo was with them. "Yeah, but you were cool in action, Ben!" gushed Eugene, who now has a real-life story of Ben fighting, which he will share on the messaging board shuttlepatch. "You surprised me with your strength, Ben," respectfully replied Gray to Ben. Ben flexes a bit and says, "Yup. I'm known to have that effect on people." He looks over to Gerard, Gogo, Rowan, and Teddy, "And like us, they also dealt with their Grimm. Though Gerard looks a little worse for wear." The others walk over to them to discuss their victory. "Crap that Ursa Major hurt," said Gerard holding his arm. "Thanks for the save, though," commented Gogo. "You were honestly awesome, Gerard!" praised Rowan to Gerard. "Thanks for the assist, Rowan. It helped out a lot," said Gerard. "Your hyper elbow really is something, partner," said Teddy while stretching his arm. "Oh, guys." blushed Rowan while rubbing his head. "Aren't we awesome?" smiled Ben as everyone finally regrouped. "Hell yeah, we are!" replied Gogo, and everyone smirked. And so these hot-blooded youths continued their walk back in high spirits, excited at what was to come in their next chapter of life.
Author's endnote: Waldo Amudo is not an OC. He is the class 8 glasses guy who went with the crew to the amusement park. He never received a name, so I gave him one. Amudo is the translation of no one in Korean.
