Chapter 4

The tunnels seemed endless. The walls felt like they were closing in, and with every step they took, a sense of dread grew stronger. Harry couldn't help it—he felt like they were being herded toward something terrible.

The first warning came in the form of a sticky thread wrapping around Ginny's shoe. She froze, her breath caught, and she slowly looked down.

Ginny glanced around, her eyes widening. Silver, silky threads hung everywhere around them. Some glistened in the light of Harry's wand, like a macabre work of art. But what truly made their breath hitch was the movement in the distance.

"Spiders," Ginny whispered, her voice barely audible.
Harry, a few steps behind her, stopped immediately, his gaze sweeping over the shimmering silver webs that surrounded them.

"Stay still," he murmured, his voice barely rising above the oppressive sound of their breathing. Ginny looked at him, her eyes wide with concern.

"Too late," she muttered.

The sound came first. A deep, low rustling, like an army of hairy legs moving through the darkness. Harry turned, gripping his wand tightly, and above them, the first monster appeared.
A giant spider, at least twice the size of a grown man, with gleaming black eyes that radiated nothing but hostility. Its long, hairy legs gripped the walls of the tunnel as it descended. Before Harry could cast a spell, more appeared. They crawled along the walls, over the webs, drawing closer.

"Harry..." Ginny began, her voice trembling.

The first spider leapt. Harry reacted instinctively. "Stupefy!" he shouted, and the beam of red light hit the spider square in the chest. It staggered backward, but others quickly took its place.

"Run!" Ginny screamed, but before she could take a step, one of the spiders shot downward, grabbing Harry with two strong legs around his waist. He cried out as the spider lifted him, swinging him back and forth like a toy.
"Harry!" Ginny shouted.

Harry struggled, gripping his wand tightly, but the spider's strength was overwhelming.
"Save yourself, Ginny!" he yelled as the spider drew him closer to its fangs, which gleamed menacingly in the dim light.

But Ginny did the opposite. She looked at Harry's pained expression, the panic in his eyes, and something inside her snapped. Without hesitation, she raised her wand and aimed it at the spider.
"Reducto!"
The spell struck one of the spider's legs, and with a sickening crunch, its hard exoskeleton broke. The spider screeched in pain and dropped Harry. He landed on the ground with a groan, battered but alive.

Ginny rushed to his side, but before she could help him up, another spider lunged forward, its jaws clacking in fury. Ginny spun around, her wand raised.
"Incendio!"
A burst of flames erupted, lighting up the tunnel. The spider retreated, shrieking as its hairy body caught fire, filling the air with the sickening stench of burning chitin. Ginny grabbed Harry under his arm and hauled him to his feet.

"Can you walk?" she asked, her voice urgent but worried.
Harry nodded, though his legs trembled. "Barely," he rasped.

The spiders hesitated for a moment, retreating slightly, but the walls and ceiling still seemed to writhe with movement. A legion of eyes glinted in the darkness, and Ginny knew they had no time to lose.
"Come on!" she shouted, pulling Harry with her.

They ran. The webs clung to their clothes and skin as the spiders pursued them. The tunnel felt like it was closing in, a trap of silk and claws.

One of the spiders lunged forward, its massive legs reaching for Ginny, but Harry turned and raised his wand.
"Expelliarmus!" he yelled. Though the spell didn't disarm the spider, the force knocked it aside, allowing Ginny just enough time to dart through.

The fire Ginny had set earlier began to spread, and the heat and smoke drove the spiders further back. Finally, they reached a narrow passage, just wide enough for the two of them. They squeezed through and collapsed, exhausted, on the other side.

Ginny lay flat on her back, her chest heaving. Harry sat next to her, bent forward with his hands on his knees. His face was scratched, and a strange red mark on his side showed where the spider had grabbed him.

"You saved me," he said finally, his voice soft and hoarse.

Ginny turned her head to look at him, a weak smile forming despite the hammering of her heart.
"Someone had to. You didn't look like you were about to save yourself."

But behind her sharp words was something softer. Harry looked at her, his green eyes still filled with a mixture of fear and relief.
"Thank you," he said sincerely.

Ginny swallowed, and for a moment, she forgot about the tunnel, the spiders, and everything else around them. She looked into his eyes and felt something she'd been trying to suppress for a long time.

He reached for her hand—a simple gesture, but it made her heart race. She saw him leaning closer, and before she realized it, she leaned in too.

But just before their lips met, Ginny turned her head away. She quickly stood, her face flushed with embarrassment.
"We should keep moving," she mumbled, gripping her wand tightly again.

Harry remained seated for a moment, visibly confused, but he said nothing. He stood and followed her. As they walked on together, Ginny couldn't stop her thoughts from spiraling.

What had just happened? And more importantly, why did it feel like she'd lost something by not letting it happen?

The tunnels grew quieter as they went on, but the silence was oppressive. Every shadow seemed to move, every sound echoed like a threat. Harry limped after Ginny, clutching his side where the spider had gripped him. Ginny hardly glanced back, her wand clutched tightly, as if expecting another attack at any moment.

"This can't go on forever," Harry muttered, swallowing back the pain. "There has to be a way out."

Ginny cast a quick look over her shoulder. "If you'd stop whining, maybe we'd find one."

Before Harry could respond, a strange, low sound reached them. It was like the scraping of stone on stone, followed by a rumble that sent vibrations through the tunnel. Ginny stopped abruptly, raising her hand to signal Harry to be silent.
"What now?" he whispered.

The answer came in the form of a massive, enraged spider that suddenly rounded the corner. Its body was blackened from Ginny's earlier fire spell, and one of its legs hung uselessly by its side. Its eyes glinted with pure hatred.

"It's the same one!" Ginny screamed.

The spider let out a screech and charged at them with surprising speed. Harry and Ginny turned and ran.

"Harry, what's the plan?" Ginny shouted as the spider closed in.

"Running is the plan!" Harry yelled back, his voice filled with panic.

The tunnel sloped downward as the ground beneath their feet became uneven. The air grew colder and damper as they ran, and finally, they emerged into a vast, open cavern.

They stopped abruptly. Before them was a deep chasm, with a raging river far below. Ginny spun to face Harry.
"And now? Any bright ideas?"

Harry glanced at the spider, now fully visible in the light of his wand, then back at Ginny.
"Jump," he said firmly.

Ginny stared at him as if he'd lost his mind. "You can't be serious!"

"We don't have a choice!" Harry shouted as the spider drew closer.

"I'm not jumping!" Ginny's voice was filled with anger and fear.

Ginny's eyes darted from Harry to the spider, then to the raging river below her. "If we jump, we'll drown."

Harry stepped behind her, gripping her shoulders. He shoved her forward.

"What are you—!" Ginny screamed. "I'm going to kill you for this, Potter!"

Harry spun her around. "My sweet Ginny." His face was just inches from hers. "If you want to kill me, you'll have to take a number." He pushed her. "And don't forget to hold your breath."

Ginny shrieked as she was shoved off the ledge.

Harry took a deep breath and jumped after her. Air rushed past him as he fell, and before he could brace himself, he hit the icy water below with a resounding splash.

Ginny came up from the water, coughing and gasping for air. The churning water dragged her along, and it took all her strength to keep her head above the surface. She looked around and saw Harry, struggling in the water as if he might drown at any moment.

"Stop overreacting!" Ginny shouted, but her words were half-choked by the noise of the river.

Harry disappeared under the water. Without thinking, Ginny swam toward him, her muscles burning from the effort. She grabbed him by the arm and pulled him up with all her strength.

"Hold on!" she screamed.

Harry clung to her, coughing and sputtering. Ginny felt the current pulling them further, but eventually, the river calmed. They swam toward the shore and struggled to pull themselves out of the water.

Ginny collapsed onto her back, her chest heaving. "If I ever get the chance, I'll finish you off, Potter," she said, more frustrated than serious.

Harry turned toward her, still gasping for air. "Maybe... but you've saved me twice. Thanks."

She sniffed, but the corners of her mouth involuntarily lifted. "Keep that in mind if I ever get really mad at you."

They found a small, sheltered spot between some rocks and decided to take a break. Ginny used a simple spell to start a small fire, which began drying their wet clothes and driving the chill from their bones.

Harry fell asleep almost immediately, exhausted from the effort. Ginny stayed awake, her wand within reach as she kept an eye on the shadows. The spiders might regroup, but for now, it seemed safe.

She stared at Harry's face, soft and relaxed in sleep, and felt a strange warmth in her chest. It felt as though he was a completely different person when he slept, vulnerable and... trustworthy.

Ginny turned her gaze to the fire. Her thoughts were a jumble. What did all of this mean? Why had she risked her life so many times for him? Was it only to survive, or was there more?

She thought about how it felt when their eyes met. The tension, the unspoken words. Was that what love was? Or was it something else, an illusion strengthened by the death and danger surrounding them?

Ginny had never been in love. Sure, she'd had a few flings with men, but nothing serious ever came of them. No one had ever made her heart race.

"My sweet Ginny."

The words haunted her mind, and she hated the way her heart skipped a beat. She knew perfectly well that Harry hadn't meant it, but her heart didn't believe that.

She glanced at Harry again. A dark strand of hair had fallen across his eyes, and she had to resist the urge to brush it aside. Annoyed, she turned away. She had to put a stop to her growing feelings for Potter.

Potter was the enemy. Their love could only end in disaster. If Potter even felt anything for her, which he didn't.

"My sweet Ginny."

"Shut up," she whispered to the voice in her head.

Ginny let out a deep sigh and stared into the fire. One thing was certain: Harry Potter would never be the same to her again. And that scared her more than the spiders ever could.
