Chapter 5 hunt or hunted

Author's note; the gang meets a hunter who is married to a mermaid. Is he a friend?

The council of twelve were gathered for a meeting in headquarters.

"I'd like you all to meet our new council member," said Troy. "Katherine Egan."

A woman walked into the room with curly golden hair and wore a pink thin strapped top and white capris.

"A pleasure for you to join in Katherine" said a bald man in a humbled tone.

"Thank you, Mark," said Katherine siting down next to him.

"As you know," said Troy. "We're having trouble with those mermaids in Florence. They have been causing trouble killing our agents and causing magic beings to fight back more. We were close to discovering the mermaid world, but the mermaids killed the agents we sent."

"What should we do?" asked a lady with black hair.

"Don't worry," said Katherine. "I know a hunter who will take care of them."

Annie and Rachel were telling their friends about her stepmother's new restaurant.

"I'm so excited for her," said Amelia. "I know how much she loves cooking."

"I can't wait for the opening" added Jasmine.

"We'll be there" Toni jumped in.

"Why don't we have a movie night at my house?" Muffy spoke up. "Easy to love starring Esther Williams is playing on channel 9 tonight. I love that movie."

"Okay" said Annie and the other girls all murmured in agreement.

Later as the girls watched the movie, the girls joked about how anybody would think that Esther Williams was part mermaid as she loved to swim and how her movies had a swim theme to them.

"I'm surprised she didn't star in a mermaid themed movie," said Jasmine. "She would have loved that."

The girls laughed and talked.

Annie tried to pay attention to the film, but she began to feel drowsy and nodded off.

She dreamed of seeing a mermaid with reddish-brown hair and a man with her with brunette hair he wore a coral-colored t-shirt and black shorts. There was a sign that said Williamsburg. The man had a gun. Suddenly the man shot the gun.

Annie woke up with a gasp.

The other girls all looked at her in surprise.

"Are you okay?" asked Toni.

"Yeah," exclaimed Annie. "I just nodded off."

The next day, Annie went to Mrs. Wellington's office.

"I had this vision last night," explained Annie. "There was this mermaid and a man with her he had a gun. I wasn't sure if he killed her, but I heard the gun going off. I think he might be a hunter."

"Do you know where they might be?" asked Mrs. Wellington.

"There was a sign in my vision," admitted Annie. "It had the name of a town. It was called Williamsburg."

Mrs. Wellington looked at her laptop and looked up towns by the name of Williamsburg. She showed Annie a picture of a town sign that said Williamsburg.

"That's the sign I saw in my vision!" cried Annie pointing.

"It's Williamsburg Virginia," said Mrs. Wellington reading the information. "I'm not sure what a mermaid would be doing in a town that isn't near the ocean."

"Do you think the hunter kidnapped her?" asked Annie.

"I don't know," said Mrs. Wellington. "She could be mermaid descendant or have been a human once. But we should find out about this hunter."

When school was over, Annie and Rachel were leaving the school when Parker ran up.

"Hey guys," he called. "Mrs. Wellington told me about what you're doing and I'm going with you."

"Parker it's not safe," said Annie. "These are hunters we're talking about; the last ones kidnapped you and took you to the oceanic realm."

"You know I'm always beside you Annie," declared Parker. "And I'm not afraid of hunters, demons or witches, I'm not letting you face them alone."

"Just be careful," said Annie hugging her boyfriend.

The three met up with Irene's gang and Melora at the moonpool.

"Melora," said Annie. "What are you doing here?"

"Dawn sent me to accompany you on this mission," explained Melora. "She gave me the potion to create the portal."

Melora poured the potion into the pool and the portal opened up.

Everyone jumped in and they came out through a river.

They looked around and saw they were in a woodland. They walked through the woods for a while and they saw a town.

"Look!" called Rachel. "There's a sign."

When the gang looked, they saw the sign said Williamsburg.

"This is the place," said Annie.

"But where do we find the mermaid?" asked Irene.

"I hope we're not too late" muttered Trish.

"Well, I didn't see what happened to the mermaid," admitted Annie. "Just that the man had a gun and I heard it going off. He didn't exactly shoot it."

The gang walked around town for a while. Irene, Trish and Kelsey spent more time looking at the window displays in the shops.

The gang rested at a diner. They sat at a table and waited to be served. The drama girls had shopping bags set along side.

A lady wearing a white uniform walked up and took orders. When Annie looked up at the lady, she saw she looked familiar. She had the same reddish-brown hair as the mermaid in her vision.

Annie stared for a moment and then snapped out of her thoughts and ordered her food.

"She's who were looking for" Annie whispered after their food was brought to them.

"Really?" asked Trish as she, Irene and Kelsey sipped their diet sodas.

"Yes," said Annie. "She matched the same mermaid I saw in my vision."

"Well, she looks alright," said Irene taking a bite of her salad.

"I'm certain it's her," said Annie. "In human form."

"But what about the hunter?" asked Parker.

Annie didn't know.

Later after the gang finished eating, they walked out of the diner and watched as Clio ended her shift. She stood outside the diner and looked like she was waiting.

After a few minutes a car showed up and stopped in front of the diner, Clio walked around to the other side of the car. Annie could see through the window and saw a man sitting in the driver's seat.

She gasped, seeing that it was the same man in the image.

"It's him," she whispered. "It's the man in the vision."

Clio got in the car and he drove off.

"He didn't look like he was doing anything to her" muttered Melora.

"She just willingly went with him" added Kelsey.

"It's strange" declared Parker.

"We should still see what's going on" said Annie still unsure.

They followed the car across town until it came to a house on the other end of town. Clio and the man got out and went inside. They waited a few minutes and the man came out again and got back in the car.

"Let's go" whispered Rachel.

They walked up to the front door and Melora knocked on the door.

Clio answered it and was surprised to see Annie and the gang.

"Can I help you?" she asked.

"I'm sorry to bother you," said Annie. "But we think you're who we're looking for."

Clio looked at them in confusion.

"Are you a mermaid?" asked Annie.

Annie, Rachel, Irene and Melora all held up their moon rings and Clio stared at them in surprise.

"Yes" she stammered.

She held open the door wider and allowed them inside. She led them to the kitchen and they sat down.

"Rachel, Trish and I only became mermaids when we feel into a moonpool back home," explained Annie. "But Irene and Melora have been mermaids their whole lives. What about you?"

"I was born a mermaid," replied Clio. "I'm from the ocean though, but I was banished for falling in love with a human."

"I had this vision about you," said Annie. "There was this hunter, I'm not sure what happened but there was this gun shot and…"

Before she could finish, the front door opened, the gang turned to look and saw the hunter coming inside.

"That's him!" cried Annie jumping up.

The man looked surprised to see Clio and the gang.

Parker took out the sword of Avalon and held it against the man.

"Everyone it's okay," cried Clio standing up. "This is my husband, Jarvis."

"Your husband!" cried Irene.

"But he's a supernatural hunter" added Kelsey.

"I know," replied Clio softly. "We've been married for three years."

"I used to be a hunter," explained Jarvis calmly. "But then everything changed when I fell in love with Clio. It's a long story."

Everyone gathered around and listened, though they kept their guard up.

"I'm a descendant of that man," Jarvis explained pointing to a painting on the wall in the living room. It was a man with short brunette hair and wore 16th century clothes. "Desmond Brennen, one of the most infamous witch hunters in Virgina."

"I've heard of him," said Rachel. "He was well known for his witch prosecutions in the 1640s."

"One of the original supernatural hunters," sighed Jarvis. "He was very clever as he could tell if someone was a witch, executed about thirty people for witchcraft. For generations his family followed the business even after people stopped seeing magic as bad. My dad raised me and my older brother Kurt to hate magic, our family's catholic so you can imagine he thought it's work of the devil. I used to be in the army, like most hunters do, I was in Ireland a couple years back and I met Clio. I was prepared to kill her. But I was enchanted by her beauty and couldn't kill her. She made me realize that magic wasn't so bad after all."

"You mean you fell in love with a mermaid?" asked Irene in disbelief.

"I was banished from my pod for falling in love with a human," added Clio. "So, I used my moon ring to gain legs and we returned to Virginia and got married. He now works as a swimming instructor."

"So, you gave up being a hunter because you fell in love and married a mermaid?" Trish sighed romantically.

"I kind of still am," said Jarvis admittingly. "I keep it up to convince Kurt I'm still in the family business. I usually though just kill magic beings who deserve it, like demons, evil spirits and witches."

Annie was surprised to see a supernatural hunter who was good and only killed bad magic beings. She wondered if some supernatural hunters weren't as bad as others.

"Now you know what you must do?" asked Katherine as she drove a white Range Rover toward Williamsburg.

"Yes," said a blond-haired man sitting next to her. "The council wants me to take care of those mermaids that have been interfering. But shouldn't we be going to Oregon instead of Virginia?"

"Our sources says they've come to Virginia," explained Katherine. "They always show up to save magic beings. So, we'll be able to get them."

"I can't understand why came here," said Annie. "The vision I had showed me Clio and Jarvis, I was sure it meant Jarvis would kill Clio."

"Visions are very unpredictable," said Melora. "Sometimes they don't come true the way you think."

"If only hunters were more like this," said Annie. "Then it would be a lot less trouble for us and other magic beings."

"I know," agreed Kelsey. "The Winchester brothers on Supernatural only kills bad magic beings, the hunters should do the same."

"I think it's so romantic for two people of enemy groups to be in love" declared Trish.

Just then the door burst open. Everyone turned and looked to see a blond-haired man standing in the door way holding a gun. Trish screamed and fell out of her chair. Annie, Rachel and Parker got up ready for a fight.

"Mermaid," said the man with a growl. "You're coming with me!" Jarvis looked around with a surprised look. Kurt!" he cried.

Kurt didn't have time to talk as Annie waved her hand the door banged shut behind him. He looked around with surprise and Annie used her heat powers to heat up the gun. He screamed in pain and dropped the gun.

Parker then jumped on Kurt. Kurt groaned as he tried to swing Parker off. "Look it's just the mermaids I'm after!" he cried trying to reason. "Hand them over and there won't be any trouble."

"Never!" Parker cried.

Irene used her powers to make a blizzard in the room. Snow swooshed around in Kurt's face.

Autumn got up and looked out the kitchen window.

"Guys look!" she cried. "There's another one out there!"

Melora and Rachel looked out the window and saw a lady with curly blond hair looking through.

Rachel took her moon ring and shot a blue beam at the window. The lady ducked down and the window smashed.

Kurt then grabbed Clio by the arm and held her close.

"Come on Jarvis," he said. "We've got the mermaid."

Jarvis looked down, he was unsure of what to say to him. Annie secretly prayed he would try to convince his brother that he was wrong about magic. But with a heavy sigh, he reluctantly went out with Kurt and Clio.

Annie helped Parker up and looked at everyone around the messed-up kitchen. shattered glass all over the floor and furniture knocked all around. The others were all picking themselves up.

"Come on," said Annie worriedly. "We have to stop Kurt from killing Clio."

The group ran back to the front where they saw Kurt forcing Clio into the back seat of a Range Rover. Then climbed into the driver's seat and drove off.

"They'll probably take her into the woods" suggested Parker.

"You're right," declared Annie. "Let's go."

They followed the car into the woods, off the road and stopped next to the river. Kurt and Jarvis got out of the car and Kurt pulled Clio out and set her on the ground.

Kurt handed a gun to Jarvis.

"Come on," he said. "Kill her."

Jarvis just stood there hesitant.

"Jarvis," said Kurt sounding desperate. "Come on!"

"I can't," said Jarvis. "She's my wife."

Annie and the others watched from behind a tree.

"I remember a spell from the book about combining water and geokinesis," said Trish softly. "Give it to me quick."

Melora reached into her bag and pulled out the book. Trish flipped through a few pages and found the spell.

"Water and earth combine beneath the grounds you lie, join together it's time to rise!"

Before Kurt could say anything, the ground around the three began to shake and began to crumble. Just then water started shooting up from the ground like geysers. Kurt, Jarvis and Clio fell to the ground as water shot up. Clio transformed into mermaid form from getting wet from the water.

Kurt picked himself up and ran towards Clio. Clio held her hand out and the wet ground turned into a line of jelly substance. Kurt slipped and fell. He slid through the substance and stopped.

She has substance powers, just like me and Trish Annie thought to herself.

Kurt picked himself up. Annie and the others came running out from behind the trees and gathered around Jarvis and Clio.

"I can't believe you'd marry a mermaid," said Kurt dryly. "What would dad say? Going against our family and the hunters."

"Not all Magic is bad Kurt," said Jarvis. "Clio made me realize that there are good magic beings."

"Magic is dangerous Jarvis!" snapped Kurt. "Father taught us that. For generations our family has been hunters and you've tainted our blood marrying a mermaid!"

"Kurst please," Jarvis begged. "I've realized that magic isn't bad and we can help you realize it too. It's over now."

"Oh don't you see Jarvis," said Kurt unswayed. "It's never over."

Kurt unleashed his gun ready to shoot Clio, but Jarvis took out his own gun and shot him in the chest.

Kurt took a step back and fell to the ground.

Jarvis stared at his brother's body with a look of sadness.

"I-I didn't want things to come down to this" he said guiltily.

Clio hugged her husband comfortingly.

"I understand my vision now," Annie said to no one in particular.

"You do?" asked Parker.

"My vision wasn't about Jarvis killing Clio," explained Annie. "It was telling me we had to help Jarvis and Clio."

Everyone stared in surprise and agreed.

"You were very good with the spell Trish" declared Irene.

"Thanks" replied Trish smiling.

When Annie got home, she told Alex and Vivian about Jarvis and Clio. They were quite surprised about a hunter being an ally. Annie then went upstairs and wrote in her diary.

March 24th 2017

Dear diary, today we went to Virginia to help a mermaid from a supernatural hunter. We had quite a surprise, her husband is also a supernatural hunter. But he changed because of his love for her. He's not like other hunters we've met. It makes me wonder if not all hunters are so bad.

Author's note; It was quite interesting seeing a good supernatural hunter, wasn't it?
