Later in the morning, Hailey woke up to the sound of water running in the adjacent bathroom. She yawned and stretched, feeling the cool sheets against her skin.

Just then, the bedroom door opened and Zoey, their two-year-old daughter, walked in, rubbing her eyes sleepily.

"Hey, Zooms," Hailey said, sitting up in bed. "What are you doing up?"

Zoey didn't respond, instead she walked over to the bed and climbed up onto it, her small body struggling to hoist herself up.

Zoey nodded, her eyes wide and innocent. "Dada?"

Just then, the water from the shower stopped running in the bathroom. A few moments later, Jay emerged, hair damp and a towel wrapped around his waist.

"Hey, you guys are up early," Jay said, smiling at the sight of his wife and daughter.

He made his way over to the bed and leaned down to kiss Zoey on the forehead. "Morning, Zooms."

Zoey giggled and reached up to grab onto Jay's hair, tugging at it gently.

Hailey laughed and gently pulled Zoey's hands away from her father's head. "Watch it, little monster. We don't want to give Dada a bald spot."

"You look gorgeous this morning," Jay said, his eyes roaming over her sleep-tousled hair and pajama-clad body.

Hailey blushed under his gaze. "Flattery will get you everywhere, Halstead."

She smiled up at him, feeling that familiar flutter in her chest. No matter how many years they'd been together, he still had the power to make her feel like a teenager.

Hailey leaned down and patted Zoey on the bottom. "Alright, sweetpea. It's time to get ready for daycare."

Zoey pouted and shook her head. "No, no daycare!"

Hailey chuckled and shook her head. "I know you don't like going, but it'll be fun today. You'll get to play with your friends, do some art, and have snacks."

Zoey looked like she was about to protest again, but then Jay spoke up.

"Come on, Zooms, you love daycare. And plus, I heard they're having macaroni and cheese for lunch today."

Zoey's eyes lit up at the mention of macaroni and cheese, her favorite food. She immediately perked up and jumped off the bed, running out of the bedroom to get ready.

Jay chuckled and sat down on the edge of the bed next to Hailey. "That's Parenting 101 for you. Bribery always works."

Once the morning rush of getting Zoey ready and dropped off at daycare was over, Hailey and Jay arrived at the district. They made their way into the bullpen and were immediately greeted by their teammates, who were all hard at work. Kim was typing away on her computer, Kevin and Adam were talking in hushed voices by the coffee machine, and Voight was on the phone in his office.

"Hey, you two finally decided to show up," Kim said, looking up from her computer.

Jay chuckled and sat down at his desk. "Yeah, we had some trouble getting a certain little girl out the door this morning."

"Oh, yeah? Zoey giving you a hard time?" Adam asked, pouring himself a cup of coffee.

Hailey nodded and leaned against her desk. "You have no idea. She was practically clinging to me, begging to stay home."

"Yeah, because she's too smart to want to go to daycare," Kevin quipped, a smirk on his face.

Jay rolled his eyes but couldn't help but smile. "Hey, watch it, Kev. You're talking about my kid there."

Voight came out of his office then, looking serious as always. "Alright, enough with the chit-chat. We've got a case."

Voight called everyone over to the whiteboard, and the team gathered around to listen to what he had to say.

Just then, Trudy Platt, the tough-as-nails Desk Sergeant, came walking into the bullpen, a concerned look on her face.

Voight nodded and looked over at Hailey and Jay. "Alright, I guess you two are up. Go get your kid."

Without a word, they both stood up from their desks and headed towards the exit.

They parked their SUV outside the daycare and rushed inside.

Zoey was sobbing uncontrollably, her face red and tear-streaked. Even her little fists were clenched at her sides in frustration.

"Oh, sweetheart," Hailey said as she knelt down beside Zoey. "What's wrong, baby?"

Jay placed a comforting hand on Zoey's back.

Amy spoke up, "She's been crying since she woke up from her nap. We tried everything to soothe her, but nothing worked."

Hailey and Jay exchanged a worried glance. They had never seen Zoey this upset before.

Jay reached down and scooped Zoey up in his arms, holding her close against his chest. "It's okay, Zooms. You're okay. We're here now."

Back at the apartment, Hailey and Jay were lying in bed. It was late and they were both exhausted from dealing with Zoey's meltdown at daycare.

Jay had a pillow pressed against his face, trying desperately to block out the light from the lamp on the bedside table.

"Can you not smother yourself in your pillow, please?" Hailey asked, trying to grab the pillow from Jay's hands.

Jay grumbled and held onto the pillow tighter. "This pillow is the only thing between me and the light, Hails. Leave it alone."

Hailey leaned in and stroked the top of Jay's eyes. "You still in pain?"

Jay nodded, still refusing to remove the pillow from his face. "Yeah, this headache won't go away. It's been killing me all day."

"Poor baby," Hailey said sympathetically. "Do you need anything? Ibuprofen, water, a massage?"

Jay shook his head. "No, I don't want to take anything. I just need some quiet and some darkness."

He finally removed the pillow from his face and looked up at Hailey, his eyes strained with pain.

Hailey repositioned herself on the bed, scooting closer to Jay. She gently placed his head in her lap, cradling him against her abdomen. Her fingers combed through his hair, soothingly massaging his scalp.
