Summary: Silver found himself engaged in the nightly ritual of getting their six children settled for the night. Each has some excuses for more minutes and some demands they need to do. While handling these six kids, Silver strangely felt like today is something special to him, but what could it be? A late 1 year anniversary chapter special of "The Romance of Silver Willow."
It was Thursday night, and Silver found himself wrangling with the bedtime routine for their six kids. Annalise, Blair, Carlito, Dalton, Eustance, and Fallon—all with their own unique energy levels and bedtime stall tactics. Silver checked the time on his phone, noting the hour creeping closer to bedtime. He sighed, glancing around the hall cluttered with toys and remnants of the day's activities. With six kids under one roof, maintaining order felt like a constant battle against chaos.
"Come on, Annalise, it's time for bed," Silver called out, trying to corral his preteen daughter into her room.
"But Dad, I'm not even tired yet! Can I please just finish this chapter?" Annalise pleaded, her eyes glued to her book.
Silver sighed, knowing full well that finishing a chapter usually turned into finishing the entire book. "Sorry Annalise, but it's time for you to go to bed. Tomorrow, you can read it when you wake up, okay?"
Blair, being ten and feeling very grown-up, had decided tonight was the perfect night to argue about the necessity of bedtime altogether. "Why do we even have to sleep, Dad? It's such a waste of time!"
Silver chuckled, ruffling her hair affectionately. "Because, Blair, everyone needs their rest so they can get all their energy up for tomorrow. Off to bed now."
Meanwhile, Carlito, the eight-year-old, was practically playing his 3DS instead of getting ready for bed. "Papa, can I play this level one more time please!" he pleaded.
"No, Carlito, it's bedtime now. You can play your game in the morning," Silver replied, gently guiding him towards his bed.
Dalton, the six-year-old bundle of energy, was bouncing off the walls, quite literally. "Dad, can we have a pillow fight before bed? Please, please, please!"
"Not tonight, Dalton. It's already past your bedtime," Silver reasoned, trying to maintain some sense of order in the chaos.
Meanwhile, Eustance, the mischievous four-year-old, had decided that bedtime was the perfect time to conduct a full-scale exploration of his room, from under the bed to inside the closet.
"Come out of there, Eustance. It's time to get into your pajamas," Silver called out, trying to contain his exasperation.
And then there was Fallon, the adorable two-year-old who seemed to have endless amounts of energy, even at bedtime. She was giggling and babbling, completely unfazed by the idea of sleep.
As Silver herded the kids towards their respective beds, he couldn't shake the feeling that tonight was different somehow. The bedtime routine seemed to be dragging on longer than usual, and he couldn't quite put his finger on why.
Meanwhile, behind the scenes, Anthony was orchestrating a secret plan with Urban and Tiffany. He had enlisted the help of their children to prolong the bedtime routine, giving him more time to set up a special surprise for Silver on their 15th wedding anniversary.
"Alright, team," Anthony whispered conspiratorially to the kids. "Let's make sure bedtime takes just a little bit longer tonight, okay? It's a surprise for Papa Silver."
The kids, thrilled to be in on the secret, nodded eagerly, each playing their part in extending the bedtime routine just enough to buy Anthony the time he needed.
After Silver finally tucked Fallon into her bed, he couldn't shake the feeling that something special was about to happen. Little did he know, his husband was busy behind the scenes, orchestrating a night to remember.
Anyway, with Fallon finally settled in her bed and the door gently closed, Silver breathed a sigh of relief. Another successful bedtime conquered, or so he thought. But as he made his way down the hallway, he could hear the sounds of chatter and laughter coming from Annalise's room. "Uhhh what's going on here?" he asked, poking his head through the door.
Annalise looked up guiltily, while Blair tried to stifle a giggle. "Sorry, Papa, we were just sharing stories from school. Can we have five more minutes?"
Silver couldn't resist the earnest look on Annalise's face, "Alright, fine," he relented, "but I want you two to be in bed sleeping by the time I came to check on you after putting your siblings to bed." So he giving them a few more minutes to chat before lights out.
Meanwhile, Carlito had suddenly developed a pressing need to use the bathroom, despite having gone just moments ago. "Papa, I really have to go!" he insisted, hopping from one foot to the other.
Sighing, Silver escorted Carlito to the bathroom, trying to keep his patience intact as he waited for his son to finish. So he stood outside the bathroom door as he waited for Carlito to finish using the room. Once done, he takes him to his room and puts him down for bed.
Fortunately, Tiffany and Urban were there to lend a helping hand, swooping in to assist with the never-ending requests and tantrums.
"Tiffany, can you check on Annalise to see if she is sleeping? Urban, please go to Dalton's room to see if he needs anything before going to sleep," Silver delegated, trying to divide and conquer the bedtime mayhem. "I will go to Eustance's room to put him to bed."
With their assistance, Silver hoped to expedite the bedtime routine and salvage whatever precious moments remained for him and Anthony.
But as the minutes ticked by, it became increasingly clear that bedtime was not going to be a quick affair tonight. Each child seemed to have an endless list of demands and excuses, prolonging the process far beyond its usual length. Yet, despite the challenges, Silver couldn't shake the feeling of frustration mounting within him. All he wanted was to spend some quiet, quality time with Anthony after putting the kids to bed, but it seemed like that would have to wait.
Thankfully, Tiffany and Urban were there to lend a helping hand, making sure that all of their kids are satisfied and tucking them to bed.
Urban and Tiffany were diligently going room to room, ensuring that the kids' bedtime routines were followed to the letter.
"Blair's room, check. Annalise's room, check. Carlito's room, check," Urban recited, ticking off each room on his mental checklist.
Tiffany smiled, tucking a stray strand of hair behind her ear. "I think we've got this bedtime routine down to a science, Urban."
Urban nodded, satisfied. "Yup. The kids may be a handful, but they're our family. We'll make sure they get a good night's sleep."
Together, Urban and Tiffany made their rounds, ensuring that each child was tucked in and ready for bed, their laughter and chatter gradually fading into the peaceful stillness of the night as their bedroom lights were off. Silver couldn't shake the feeling that today held some special significance. Perhaps it was the way the children had been buzzing all day, or the way Anthony had been unusually sentimental during dinner. Whatever it was, Silver couldn't help but feel a sense of anticipation lingering in the air.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, Silver managed to usher all the kids into their beds, tucking them in with kisses and promises of sweet dreams. Soon, after finally putting the kids to bed, Silver felt like he could finally breathe with Tiffany and Urban trailing him behind. "Thank you so much, you guys," Silver said, grateful for their help. "I don't know what we'd do without you two."
Urban and Tiffany exchanged knowing glances before Urban spoke up, "It's all part of the job, Silver. We're just happy to assist."
Tiffany nodded with a smile. "Yup. Glad we could help you out with the kids. Well then, guess it's time for us to head to our room downstairs. Goodnight, Silver."
"Goodnight, Tiffany. Goodnight, Urban," Silver replied, watching as the two of them disappeared down the hallway, before heading downstairs to their own quarters. Right as Silver was about to get off the stairs, he felt two familiar arms wrap around his waist, and a soft voice whispered sweet words into his ear.
"Good evening my love."
It was Anthony.
Silver chuckled as Anthony lifted him up, placing gentle kisses on his cheek. "Hey there, Anthony," he greeted him.
"Are the kids finally in bed?" Anthony asked, a playful glint in his eyes.
He nodded, sighing with relief. "Yes, finally. It took longer than usual tonight."
Anthony chuckled, his laughter echoing through the hallway. "Well, you know how our little ones can be sometimes. They just love to keep us on our toes."
Silver leaned back into his embrace. "True, but tonight felt especially chaotic," he stated, "I wonder what got into them."
Anthony simply shrugged, his lips curving into a mischievous smile. "Maybe they're just excited about something."
Silver furrowed his brows in confusion, "Excited about what?"
But before he could ponder further, Anthony gently spun him around to face him, "Happy anniversary, my love," he whispered so tenderly.
Silver blinked in surprise, the realization slowly dawning upon him. "Wait, is today..."
Anthony nodded, his smile widening. "Our 15th wedding anniversary."
Silver couldn't help but feel a surge of emotion wash over him, the significance of the day hitting him like a tidal wave. "I... I had no idea," he admitted, feeling slightly embarrassed for forgetting such an important milestone. How could he forget the most happy day of his life?
But Anthony just laughed, his eyes soft with understanding. "It's okay, Silver. What matters is that we're here, together, celebrating another year of love and happiness."
His words filled Silver with warmth, reminding him of the incredible journey they had embarked on together since the two first met. Anthony held him close, Silver couldn't help but thank fate for the life they had built, filled with love, laughter, and the beautiful chaos of raising their six children.
"So, any surprises planned for tonight?" Silver teased before Anthony placed him back down, eager to see what Anthony had in store for their anniversary celebration.
Anthony grinned, "You'll just have to wait and see." With that, he pressed a soft kiss to his lips. He then took Silver's hand and led him towards the backyard outside with the door that was open. When they stepped outside, the cool evening air caressed their faces, and Silver could hear the gentle rustling of leaves in the breeze. But before they could venture further, Anthony made one request to Silver he would like him to do.
"Close your eyes," Anthony whispered.
Silver chuckled softly, his heart already racing with curiosity and delight. "What do you have planned, Anthony?"
"It's a surprise," Anthony replied with a playful grin. "Trust me, you're going to love it."
Silver couldn't help but smile, his trust in Anthony as he obediently closed his eyes, allowing himself to be guided by his husband's touch.
Once his eyes were closed, Silver felt his left arm being looped around Anthony's right arm, guiding him before they ventured outside. They navigated around the familiar features of their backyard, the sound of their footsteps mingling with the gentle night breeze.
They passed the silent water fountain as they went around, but Silver couldn't resist a moment of curiosity. "Where are we going, Anthony?"
"It's a secret," Anthony teased, his voice dancing with excitement.
Silver laughed softly, his anticipation growing with each step. "I can't wait to see."
Carefully guided down the stone steps, Silver's senses heightened as he felt the cool touch of the stone beneath his fingertips. He could sense they were descending further into their backyard oasis.
"Can I open my eyes now?" Silver asked eagerly, his curiosity reaching its peak.
"Not yet," Anthony replied with a chuckle, "We're almost there."
They continued walking, and Silver could feel the grass beneath his shoes, indicating that they had reached a flat grassy area of their backyard. Anthony's grip on his hand tightened, guiding him forward with gentle reassurance.
"Just a little bit more," Anthony whispered.
Silver's heart raced. He wondered what awaited him at the end of this journey. The sound of their footsteps changed as they moved across the grassy landscape area.
Finally, Anthony's voice broke the silence, "Okay, Silver, you can open your eyes now."
Silver's eyes fluttered open, and he gasped in awe at the scene before him.
Their backyard gates stood open, revealing a breathtaking view of the shimmering water beyond. A wide picnic blanket was spread out in the grass, adorned with a straw basket, electric candles casting a warm glow, and a single red rose in a plastic vase—a symbol of their enduring love.
Silver's eyes welled up as he took in the scene before him, "Anthony, this is... this is beyond anything I could have imagined." He turned to Anthony,"It's absolutely perfect."
"Happy 15th wedding anniversary, my love," Anthony spoke softly to him. "I wanted to create a special moment for us, to celebrate the love we've shared for fifteen wonderful years. Simple, but special. You deserve nothing less, my Radiant Boy-Princess."
Silver stepped forward, his hand reaching out to cup Anthony's cheek. "Thank you, Anthony. Thank you for being the most amazing partner, for filling my life with love and happiness, and for creating these beautiful memories with me."
Anthony leaned into his touch,"It's my honor and privilege, Silver. Now, let's sit down and enjoy our anniversary picnic together."
They settled onto the picnic blanket, their hands entwined, as they shared stories and laughter, reminiscing about their journey as a couple. They feasted on a delicious assortment of their favorite foods, feeding each other bites and savoring the flavors that had been made.
The stars began to twinkle above them, Silver leaned against Anthony, his head rear upon Anthony's chest. "You know, Anthony, I can't imagine my life without you. You've brought so much love and light into my world."
Anthony pressed a gentle kiss to the top of Silver's head, "And you, Silver, have given me a sense of purpose and a home filled with warmth. Being by your side, raising our children, and witnessing the beautiful chaos of our lives together is a gift I cherish every day."
They sat in silence for a moment, the night embracing them with its beauty. The sound of distant waves lapping against the shore provided a soothing rhythm.
A perfect way to celebrate their 15 years of marriage together.
Not too extravagant.
Not too much.
But simple.
A simple way to celebrate their 15th wedding anniversary.
Have I forgotten that The Romance of Silver Willow will be celebrating its first anniversary on March 1st? Absolutely not. Am I intending to write a one-shot special to honor the story that I have spent about approximately 308 days to complete? Yes. But, have I managed to finish it in time for the anniversary? Regrettably, the answer is no. Since the anniversary of The Romance of Silver Willow has passed, I find myself reflecting on the journey I embarked on nearly a year ago. This story has been a labor of love, occupying countless hours of my time and effort and best achievement I have ever achieved. The plotlines, the development of the characters, and the emotional depth infused into every chapter have made this project truly special to me.
In light of this significant milestone, I have written a one-shot special to commemorate the journey and express my appreciation and gratitude to the readers who have supported me throughout since it first came out. Unfortunately, despite my best intentions, time has slipped through my fingers, and I find myself unable to complete the one-shot special in time for the 1st anniversary. The complexities of life, unforeseen commitments, college works, and the demands of other responsibilities have distracted my progress.
However, I want to assure my readers that this setback will not dampen my dedication to The Romance of Silver Willow. Although delayed, the one-shot special will come to fruition, and I am determined to deliver a captivating tale that will exceed expectations. In conclusion, while I acknowledge that I have not managed to finish the one-shot special in time for the anniversary, I remain committed to ensuring its completion and sharing it with my readers in the near future. The journey of The Romance of Silver Willow continues, and I am thankful for the support and patience of those who have accompanied me on this remarkable path since it first released on March 1st 2023.
Anyway, review if you can. I would like to see your thoughts about this chapter so far! The reviews are the best form of motivation! Let me know what you think and see you all for the next one-shots chapter. Thank you. :)
