'Ah the joys of children'

The screams of many children assaulted my senses, some did not want their parents to leave them, some were already fighting over toys and some were simply having a good time and screaming anyway. My plan was simple, There was no plan. It was flawless as far as I was concerned, Nothing to go wrong.

So let's find some toys and go play until I can spot Jiro, that is, If Jiro goes to this daycare, I was in the right district for the same school, but hadn't accounted for daycare.

'ah well let's just play this by ear and see how this goes.'

The daycare was spacious with lots of clear floor, with plenty of room for running around, I could stretch out my wings and spin and still not hit anything, It had grouped up zones in corners, one had paints, drawing supplies and little easels for the little artists, another had a soft play zone with large colourful plastic and foam shapes with a medium-sized ball pit, it was barely a foot deep, but the size was great for little ones. The one that had the most kids was the toy zone, some 15 kids were going through the four big toy trunks that seemingly had just about everything, foam swords, toy trucks, dolls, action figures the list goes on and on.

I made my way over to them, I had just had an idea, Standing on the outside of the group I looked at the collage of body types, Small horns, odd-shaped heads, extra limbs, lack of limbs, That one is just a centaur and that one is a fridge. The sheer variety was beyond amusing, I stood for a good while just taking it all in, After about a solid 3 minutes I decided to get moving for my plan.

"Hey, are there instruments in there?"

A few kids stopped to look at me, most went back to rummaging, but one girl with pink hair just stared, I tilted my head.

"Are you ok? What's wrong?"

"Are you an Angel?"

'Oh right yeah, that's going to take a bit of adjusting, I'd got so comfortable in my new body I had forgotten about other's perceptions.'

"No, I just look like this, It's how Quirks work right?"

"But you look like an Angel, My Mommy says that angels are important to God."

'Ah crap, A religious toddler? What kind of nonsense is this so early on.'

"That's true, but I'm not an Angel, I just look like one. Anyway, Do you see any instruments in there?"

She seemed to snap back out of her thoughts and look into the chest then look back at me.

"What's an istermont?"

'Ah, right, baby brain.'

I moved next to her and looked into the chest and immediately found a little toy guitar and scooped it out.

"This is! This one is called a guitar, Instruments make music and there are lots of different types."

I started to walk away but felt a tug on my bottom right wing, Pink girl had ahold of my long feathers.

"Hey, let go, It's rude to grab people."

She seemed to fall out of her thoughts but didn't let go, She seemed conflicted on what to do and just didn't want to let go.

I shouted, With the intent to gain the attention of an adult or caretaker.

"I SAID LET GO OF ME!"

Her eyes went wide and she released my wing, tears gathering in her eyes, She sniffed.

"Bwaaaahaaa"

'Ah boy, crying child.'

A caretaker had noticed and moved over to us, She was young and had short black hair and deep forest-green eyes.

"Now now what going on here then?"

A soft and caring voice but seemingly strained, She might not have been here very long, as she kneeled between us I answered first.

"She grabbed my feathers and wouldn't let go."

She frowned at that and turned to the pink girl.

"We don't grab other people, It doesn't feel nice, You wouldn't like it if someone grabbed you and didn't want them to would you?"

The pink girl sniffed and shook her head no while looking at the ground.

"I'm sowwy."

'And an uwu to you too chibi'

"Ok, but just don't do it again."

With that said I turned and jogged away with my new acquisition to avoid being invited to play or something, I sat myself down on the little stoop to the outside playground, It was a sizable place, Soft dirt and grass with swings, climbing frame fort and patches of flowers scattered about. I placed the little toy guitar on my lap and strummed it.

"PloINk"

Would you believe that it's not in tune? I spent a good five minutes getting it as close to tuned as I could, It wasn't perfect, but for a little toy, it was as good as I could get it. So now what to play? What would work with this little plinky plonky thing. Then I remembered a cover I had listened to constantly, Hallelujah by TheDooo, It was great on a solo guitar so let's see how we do.

As I started strumming something unexpected happened, My wings were creating a reverb effect, I adjusted them to create a more concave shape behind me and it also began to amplify as well, Neat! It had been 3 years since I last played so I was a tad rusty, But the longer I played the more I fell back into the zone, and the more I fell into the zone the more confidently I played, I closed my eyes and just sang and played, By the end I was completely immersed. The release of long pent-up expression was immense, I felt light, I felt like a weight I didn't know I had been holding was released. I opened my eyes, I was surrounded by a circle of sitting kids and caretakers. Completely silent and watching me, I had overachieved a bit, just a smidge, a tad.

"That was rocking!"

I turned to my right and stood there at the back of the gathering was two adults, One was a man with wavy shoulder-length light-gold hair and a woman with straight, short, and dark purple hair with bangs that fell to the right side of her face. However, my attention was on the starry-eyed little girl between them, With hair the same shade as her mother's in a small bobcut, A tiny rock-and-roll jelly bean. With the biggest smile, she was practically vibrating on the spot.

"Dat was rocken! Sing mower!"

'Adorable Kyoka Jiro was adorable, system has crashed please reboot.'

"Oh umm ah, yeah ok."

'Smooth, flawless, well-done brain.'

Well, what to play? Oh, I know! I'm Still Here (Jim's Theme) from Treasure Planet.

I tapped on the tiny guitar for the beat as I played, I closed my eyes and zoned back out, The rhythm overcame me and the song flowed out. I don't remember standing up, But when I opened my eyes I was looking down at my enraptured audience.

"I knew he was a real angel"

'God damn it pink girl.'

"dat was so cool"

"Wow!"

"Do another one!"

"Dat was totally wicked!"

"Rocking!"

The crown devolved into praises and exclamations, The caretakers recovered their senses and began the slow process of herding everyone inside for snack time, Then all three Jiro's walked over to me.

"Wow little dude, that was some hot stuff there! I've never heard those songs before where did you hear them?"

'Now not hearing about Jim's theme is fairly common, But Hallelujah? That song is a classic, I don't want to get caught out. Let's just say I came up with it, can write it of as a kid being dumb in the worst case later.'

"I made them."

A wave of stunned silence washed over them, Kyoka had in her excitement vibrated into the ground and was on her way to the core.

"Das so cool! I wanna make songs too! Mama! Papa! I wanna do it too!"

"You certainly can kiddo! But how about you guys go get those snacks huh?"

Kyoka scampered away and I slowly made my way over, plinking the Pirates of the Caribbean theme.

Ooh, Fruit slices.

At the end of the day, I was mentally tired, and overly excited kids were a level of energy I was not completely in tune with, But sharing music and teaching how to hold some notes with a couple of kids was fun, Kyoka could play hot crossed buns and would get bright red when she was complimented, Adoribubble. Soon though it was time to go home, Nanny Michiko arrived to take me home, I said my goodbyes to the Jiro's and we began to drive home.

"Nanny Michiko-san?"

"Yes Sakuma-Kun?"

"I need a guitar."

"Oh! Found an interest have we little one?"

"Yup, need one, gotta practice."

"Oh ho ho ho, Well let's get you home and I'll talk to your parents shall I?"

"Yup yup."

I had a white child's guitar sitting at the end of my bed in the morning, Love my parents.

The next few months were a bit of a blur, At home, I would practice my guitar and do little performances for Nanny Michiko and at preschool I would sit with Kyoka and a few other kids and teach and play songs, The number of kids dropped off fast when results weren't instant, It ended up with just me, Kyoka and Pink Girl, Who I still did not know the name of, and at this point I was too scared to ask. Kyoka was learning fast as she also could practice at home but Pink Girl sucked and just could not get it, Strong determination though, so 10/10 for effort. However she kept calling me Angel and wouldn't stop even after asking her nicely, She'd just tell me it was rude not to and that she couldn't. Which in hindsight should have been a red flag.

Me and Kyoka had our first playdate at her house, Their place was awesome, wall-to-wall music theming, posters of music bands, shelves full of LP albums and CDs, speakers, music players and various guitars and basses. They had their own studio in the back! All soundproofed and as professional as you could get it, It was everything you could ever want as a musician.

"Can I live here?"

"Hahaha trying to move in already huh little rocker? You aren't a member of the family just yet"

"Ara ara?"

'Dude, An irl Ara ara, hits different.'

"Alright little rocker how about we record something huh? Let's do that song from the first day huh? That "I'm still here" one?"

"Yeah! I've got an Idea of how I want it to sound!"

And so all three Jiro's and I spent all Saturday remaking Jim's theme, With both the adult Jiro's rotating through different instruments, Myself on lead guitar and Kyoka on bass, while Nanny Michiko sat in the booth and recorded bits on her phone to show my parents. I can very proudly say that with great effort and editing in the sound booth, we finally got an almost pitch-perfect remaster of the original, I am not ashamed to say I cried when we listened to the finished version, Kyoka cried too but that was mostly because she was tired and had baby brain. Good times.

The following Monday I felt weird, Like I had too much energy and nothing to spend it on, I thought maybe I was sick, But after sitting in the car on the way to preschool It hit me, My Quirk.

"Nanny Michiko-san?"

"Yes Sakuma-Kun?"

"I think my Quirk is happening?"

"WHAT! Are you alright?"

"I feel weird, like I'm full of energy but it's not going away."

"Oh my! It is a little early for it but you have always been an early developer, We'll have to let the caretakers know to expect it sooner, Dont Quirk in the car please Sakuma-Kun."

Upon arriving at school we quickly let the caretakers know and for the most part, they were very excited as they all had a rough idea of what to expect, now thinking about it this was probably one of the perks of the job, the Human roulette, whos getting what Quirk and how will it manifest, When we are signed in to the school our parent's Quirks were added to our file so that at the very least there was a rough idea of what to expect and how to prepare.

So with that taken care of I wandered into the play space to see who was there, We had arrived a little early today so I went to go scoop up the little guitar and idly play until Pinky and the Jacks arrived, some twenty minutes later Kyoka arrived holding something black, It was a small stereo radio, She locked eyes with me and bolted over to me only barley avoiding to head butt me in her poor attempt to slow down.

"I got it! I got it! My Quirk works now! Look Look!"

She went to plug her ear jacks in and only missed twice before getting them into the port.

"Thump thump thump thump"

The little stereo radio was putting out a strong heartbeat sound and as Kyoka focused on it it got stronger and stronger before small shock waves were buffeting my clothes, The smile on her face was as gold as my wings, Pure value. She stopped smiling and tilted her head.

"Sakuma-Kun you're glowing?"

"Hum?"

I looked down and sure enough, my body was softly glowing and very slowly getting brighter, At that moment Pinky arrived and ran over.

"Hey guys!"

"Hey look look I got my Quirk!"

Kyoka again then demonstrated her newfound powers. Meanwhile, the intensity of my glow was beginning to sharply increase to the point that objects around me were casting shadows.

"You two might want to back up and go get a teacher."

""Huh?""

They both cast confusion my way before blinking and running over to the caretakers talking to Kyoka's and Pinky's moms.

"Hey! Quick! Saku is going to explode!"

The sudden outburst confused the adults for a moment before they looked up at me and the small sun I was becoming.

"It tastes like coconut, and metal, Oh wow yeah!"

The golden light suddenly burst out from me several feet and then stopped in mid-air, like particles of golden sand suspended in liquid light being moved by ethereal wind, before rushing back to me and rapidly cocooning me, It shifted to a more physical sense, tangible, weighty and real before the glow fell away to reveal a new form.

Thick armour plating over chainmail, Large pauldrons covering my shoulders, Tough gauntlets that flair at the forearm overlay my arms, Manoeuvrable boots, greaves and plates covering my feet and legs, A solid knight helm covers my head, Leaving not a single part of my body visible. A thin almost ethereal fabric acts as a tabard and covers my legs and shoulders, covering gaps the plate does not cover to give a more full and solid appearance.

With a base colour of pure silver accented with bright gold, it gives the feeling of a Holy paladin, Or it would, had it not been scaled down to fit a 3-year-old, so all of the gravitas was lost very quickly. But other than that I was very pleased as now I can start doing some of the absurd nonsense I had planned, But for now that's on hold as I have a group of concerned adults to deal with right now.

"Sakuma-Kun? Are you ok? That was very bright, Can you move at all?"

Starting with small movements I found that not only did the armour weigh nothing but the helm I was wearing was to my eyes completely transparent, It was like I wasn't even wearing a helm at all, my sight was completely unobstructed. That was awesome.

"Yeah I'm ok, that was unexpected huh?"

I turned to Kyoka.

"You called me Saku? I like it, I'm gonna call you Kyo then!"

Kyo's eyes went wide.

"Huh wha? Wait what?"

"Ara ara?"

'Momma Jiro you gotta stop."

"Fshhhhht"

The armor fizzed and flashed out of existence, and at the same time I felt the energy in my body stabilise, I had been expending energy to maintain it in real space but now I felt it filling a slot inside my chest and the knowledge that I could just summon it back for less than it had cost to create it fresh. I had a pseudo inventory for my summons, Neat.

The parents chuckled for a moment as the tension of the sudden quick explosion bled away, They said their goodbyes and left us to play. I spent the day summoning bits of armour until I suddenly summoned a great sword and It sunk a good foot into the concrete floor, I wasn't allowed to play with my Quirk anymore after that. Nanny Michiko-san arrived at the end of the day we talked all about my new Quirk and how armour was a great Quirk, A real hero's Quirk, That irked me.

"All Quirks are hero Quirks."

"Hmm?"

"There are no good or bad Quirks, only good or bad people, You do not need a Quirk to be a hero, You don't need a Quirk to be a villain."

Nanny Michiko was silent, when the car stopped she turned to me.

"Why do you think that Sakuma-Kun?"

"Quirks don't make you a good or a bad person, AllMight's Quirk doesn't make him kind, The police don't use Quirks to help the community and you don't need a Quirk to have empathy."

Nanny Michiko had a small tear in her eye, She shook her head and looked at me.

"You've only had your Quirk a day and you're already a Knight of the people, I wish we had more people like you Sakuma."

"Yup Yup, Oh before I forget, I need a laptop, A good camera and internet access, I have lots of plans!"

Nanny Michiko blinked at the sudden change of subject before bursting into laughter.

"Alright then Sakuma-Kun, I'll let your Mother know."

By the time I woke up the next day, a silver and gold laptop and camera were on my bedroom desk with the wifi password on a sticky-note, God my parents are awesome.
