Touya's pov

The same day

I looked at touko as she went out of the room. Then I turned to grandfather, " was it necessary ?" he was staring at the door and replied, "you know it was necessary..." he looked at me, " your dad will come here in few days to see what casualties happened here in past few days, I am going to prepare the reports that says that only we mages were involved, because if the word gets out that cheren was involved in this case too, then everyone will start suspecting something wrong, " he finished his sentence and got up.

" When is he going to come ?" I asked, " most probably this week, can't say, after all he never seemed to be free, " there was a slight anger in his tone. I got up and left, because I know that asking grandfather anything more than necessary is just useless as he won't reply.

Few days later

Cheren's pov

It has been days since I last talked with her, every day seemed normal on the outside but there was a clear conflict visible in her eyes. I got up from my seat during break, " I will not be able to sit with you two and eat lunch today, sorry, " I explained to lyra and ethan, " where are you going ?" ethan asked, " yes, even touko isn't eating lunch with us for a few days, is something wrong with her ?" lyra asked with concern, " don't worry, I will explain everything to you later, " I said and left.

The rooftop of the school is usually closed, it is only accessible to staffs and janitors, " you arrived just on time, " I turned to look at touko, "I thought you won't come, " I said, she looked down and said, " I wanted to give you answer for that day... about my decision, " she replied, " your decision ?" I repeated, " what is it ?" she shook her head, " first tell me, why did you call me here ? we need to finish this quickly because I need to go to principal's office, " "why ?" " cheren..." she stopped, closed her eyes and nodded, then said, " dad is going to have lunch with me, touya and grandpa, most probably discussion about recent events, " she said, I nodded.

" It has been days, and it is going to almost a month since we met each other, " I sighed, remembering the day when she was staring at me in the gymnasium, then talking about all the malice stuffs that she could see, " after observing you, I can say that... you are chained... " she looked at me with shock, " so I am right, you are chained with the responsibilities of heiress, right ? You can't let normal citizens get involved with mages and all or else it will put you and your family in a bad name, " she didn't said anything but looked down.

" I understand, not completely but little, " I took a deep breath and exhaled, " it might be annoying, right ? But I am not going to stop just because of that, " her eyes widened, " I want to tell you that... will you go out with me ?" she didn't replied just looked away, " I know it is almost impossible for developing feelings in one month... but then, why don't we start by understanding each other ?" she finally looked at me.

" Why?" she continued, " why are you getting involved with me ? You could lead a good life with your friends without anyone finding out your true self, " her voice was low, like when we first met. " Because... I want to find out what happened to my parents and what happened to you, I want to know that, it is selfish want that I have, " I explained, she nodded and said, "you don't know the consequences of this, " she mumbled, " well, I came to say that... let's not meet and talk with each other in front of everyone for a while, " she said, " why ?" I asked, "I will tell you later, bye, " she said and left.

Touko's pov

I looked at my plate, ' you are chained, ' the words were echoing in my ears, his words, his confession. ' He was looking confident in whatever he said ' touya was giving me side glances but I ignored it, I know I am acting weird but I can't tell about my conversation with cheren, " touko, " dad called, " what are you thinking ? It has been a while since you have been staring at your food, " he asked, " no, nothing, " I looked out of the principal's office window, " just thinking about recent events,...it surely did loosened my seal it seems..." I said, 'chained with heiress responsibilities, ' his words wasn't fading at all.

I looked at father, he won't like it if I put normal citizens in danger but he also won't like me getting in danger. From childhood he has taught me that it is necessary to save the non mages, though I won't be the leader. I closed my eyes, ' I don't know what to do...' " touko, " dad called again, " how are you and luca doing ?" his name sent shivers down my spine, "why... do you suddenly asked ?" I asked with low voice like he is listening to the conversation.

" Well, because recently I met his dad when I visited north, he said that... according to luca, you seem to be more attracted towards normal life, or more precisely... towards cheren, " 'no, I can't tell him !' " it's just a misunderstanding, I was just busy preparing for upcoming tests, " I tried my best to like calm and composed. If I stuttered even a bit, he will see to it that I lied. "But why did luca said that ?" touya asked, " I mean, the last time they brought the proposal, we said that we will think and even you are thinking of rejecting it right ?" he said.

" Well, even I don't know, when I asked him about it, he said something like luca is worried about touko and all, " dad replied, " I am totally against the idea of both of them getting engaged, because I personally belive that it is touko's decision, " dad concluded. " These people never understand, do they ?" grandpa said " they just want themselves in the spotlight, and just because they are light mages, they think that they are supreme, " he looked at dad, " is it a norm in all four guardians to be this self indulged and selfish ?" he was trying to mock dad but dad didn't gave much attention, like always.

The rest of the lunch was quite and finally dad got up, and looked at me, " touko, don't get swayed by the normal people, we are more like their protectors and not friends, there is a clear line between us, there is still time..., focus on your training ,education and heiress duties, " he then looked at grandpa and touya, " I believe you will keep an eye on her actions,... and next time don't dare to lie to me, thank you for the meal, " he said and left the room, ' her knew...from the beginning !' I didn't looked at anyone just at my now empty plate, in a similar way that I am... empty without heiress duties, without responsibilities... just an empty void.
