Blitz arrived to find the door open and Stolas seated on the edge of his bed. The owl rested his head in his hand in what appeared to be a mixture of fatigue and stress. Blitz entered the room quietly, momentarily wanting to reach out to the prince, but soon thought better of it.
"Alright, I'm here. What gives?" He demanded impatiently. Stolas didn't bother to look up.
"You may want to sit down first," Stolas suggested, gesturing to a chair to his right. Blitz pulled the object closer, dropping onto it.
The imp crossed his arms over his chest.
"I know this isn't ideal," Stolas began, "But I'll have to ask you to be patient. It's been a long, exhausting day." Blitz raised an eyebrow.
"It's not even noon," He pointed out.
"I know," Stolas replied, finally lifting his head. "I want you to know that I would never have put you in this position if I'd thought it possible. This isn't something that's easily explained.
If after I've told you, you feel that this is too much, I won't hold it against you. If you have any questions, you're welcome to ask me anything." The prince paused.
"Just tell me," Blitz grumbled, "You call me over here, sounding fifty shades of fuckin' weird, and it's taking you forever just to-"
"Yes, well, it's hard to find the right words. This wasn't supposed to happen. I was surprised myself." Stolas admitted, "I know you have better things to do than sit here, but-"
"You're still not telling me anything!" Blitz shouted.
"I'm getting there!"Stolas snapped, catching Blitz off guard, "Can we just have a real conversation for once?"
"The fuck was that?"The imp questioned. Stolas sighed heavily.
"I apologize. I was out of line. These last few days have been stressful. I did ask you to be patient. I'm not feeling quite myself."
"I figured," Blitz said softly. The imp's concern only grew at the outburst.
"I wanted to say this as gently as possible, but given the way things are going right now, I suppose I'll just give you what you want. I-"
"You're not gonna tell me you're dying, are you?" Blitz interrupted, "Cause I swear to-"
"No. Real conversations don't necessarily mean someone's dying." Blitz didn't reply, now purposely avoiding eye contact, "But it's nice to know you'd actually care if I was."
"Shut up, Stolas," Blitz grumbled.
"Well I can't do both, you want me to tell you, but don't want me to talk at all. I don't know why I thought we could-"
"Alright, I-I'm sorry. Just tell me what's going on." Blitz interrupted. Stolas narrowed his eyes at the imp.
"I don't have the energy for this today, Blitz, I really don't. If this is an indication of the way this is going to go, maybe we should just-"
"I said I'm sorry, you got me over here, and you're acting weird and saying all this-I need you to talk to me. I'm...worried. Sometimes it comes out wrong."Blitz moved to sit next to Stolas on the bed.
The prince remained silent.
"Stolas-"
I'm carrying an egg, Blitz."Stolas said, softening his expression.
"The fuck did you just say?"Blitz muttered.
"I'm carrying an egg," Stolas repeated, "Before you say anything, although the males in the Goetia family have that ability, it only happens once in a great while. There are no clear signs until the process begins, and almost all the eggs are empty. That is to say, there is no child. The process would happen whether or not you and I were spending our nights together.
Having said this, I can't promise you there is a child inside the egg, but I can't tell you there isn't.
We can't confirm until it's out of my body. It's dangerous for myself and the egg to try before that." Stolas paused. The imp stared in silent disbelief.
"Of course, it would be unfair, under the circumstances, to expect anything from you." Stolas continued, "However, it would be more so to deny you the option to be a part of the child's life if there is one." After semi-recovering from the initial shock, Blitz turned to face Stolas.
"You're telling me you're pregnant, and it's mine?"Blitz questioned.
"For the sake of keeping it less complicated, it's possible, and if that's the case, yes, it's your child," Stolas confirmed.
" You're fucking with me, "Blitz accused.
Stolas shook his head.
" I would never do such a thing. Are you alright, you seem-"
"Shouldn't I be asking you that? I don't know- Holy shit."Blitz shook his head. Stolas lightly rested a hand on Blitz's.
"Like I said, you don't have to say or do anything.
I, on the other hand, need to lie down. I'm feeling slightly faint." Blitz immediately stood, helping Stolas get comfortable in bed before sitting next to him.
"Sh-should I call someone or get you something?" The imp panicked.
"No. I'll be alright. It's normal to feel a bit off throughout the process. I'll need to rest more frequently." Stolas explained.
"I guess that makes sense," Blitz said.
"I am sorry about pulling you into this. It wasn't supposed to happen."Stolas said, settling onto his side. "I would never have suggested-"
"What do you mean? Didn't you just say it happens?"Blitz questioned.
"Yes, but I mean to me specifically. I was told I would be unable to carry again."Blitz raised an eyebrow.
"Again?" the imp questioned.
"yes. This is my second egg. I'd rather not talk about it."
"A-are you sure you're okay? Blitz asked.
"Yes. You're not angry then?" Stolas asked.
"I don't know how I feel. I think I'm still in shock." Blitz confessed, "It's this space where I heard you, but it's- I don't know."
"It's a lot to take in, but try not to get too attached to the idea, it's more likely to be empty."Stolas reminded the imp. "I just don't want you deciding you want this and getting your hopes up for something that isn't meant to be, dearest." Blitz nodded.
"You're right, I just- if I wanted to stick around, how involved would you let me be?"
"Blitz, you're welcome to see our little one anytime you want, in fact, I'd encourage it. Y-"
"Yeah, but I mean before that. If I wanted to...do this with you?"
"Through the process?" Stolas asked in surprise. Blitz nodded.
" Maybe it's the shock talking, but I want...to be here for you, regardless. I don't know anything about it, but it sounds like it'd be something you'd want to have someone help you through."
"It's difficult, but I couldn't ask-"
"You didn't ask. I did."Blitz reached out, stroking Stolas's feathers affectionately. Stolas smiled faintly.
"Blitz, that's a wonderful offer, but I-If it's-"
"Please, just let me be here, I mean you'll need someone to help out if you're gonna be tired."
"If it means that much to you, you can be involved as much or as little as you like. It would mean a lot to me."Stolas sniffled, as a tear slid down his cheek.
"Hey, Stolas?" Blitz called quietly.
"Yes, Blitzy?"
"Would you even want this? I mean the kid's gonna be half me, and I'm-"
"I think you're getting a little ahead of yourself, Blitz. Let's take this one day at a time."Stolas suggested softly, "But I'm sure our little one would be wonderful. I'm sorry, I'm exhausted. Would you mind-"
"No. Rest as much as you need to. I'll take care of everything else."Blitz encouraged. With Stolas asleep beside him, the silence allowed Blitz's mind to reel, wandering from one thing to the next. What would the child be like? There had never before been a child born from an Imp and a Goetia. What if Blitz failed as a father, he thought of Loona and how hard he tried to be there for his daughter, only for her to hate him. Maybe this child would grow to resent him as well. What would happen with Stolas? Was building a family possible?
With so much uncertainty in Blitz's mind, the imp could only sit alone with the fears and mixed emotions that now filled his heart. Hoping to one day have it proven wrong, but knowing it was highly unlikely to turn out for the best.
