Chapter Seven: The Storm of Shadows pt. 2
With Shikamaru, Sasuke, and Haku
The group traveled silently through the forest trees of Hi no Kuni (Fire Country), Haku at the lead, Shikamaru in the middle, and Sasuke bringing up the rear, his newly unlocked Sharingan—a single tomoe—spinning as he scanned their surroundings. The hellstorm they had encountered recently had pushed Sasuke to awaken the famous dojutsu of the Uchiha Clan, though he had yet to fully explore its potential.
As they neared the outskirts of the Wave Country, Haku suddenly halted, his keen senses alerting him to something unusual about the area. "Kai!" he whispered, releasing a burst of chakra to dispel any lingering illusions. Almost instantly, two chakra signatures surged into his awareness, lurking in the distance. Reacting swiftly, Haku unleashed a wave of ice chakra, freezing the surroundings in an instant. The icy surge forced the hidden enemies to retreat, revealing their location. Sasuke and Shikamaru, having caught up to the situation, dropped down from the trees into the clearing beside Haku, ready for the impending confrontation. Standing before them were two dangerous figures, missing-nin whose reputations preceded them.
Raizo of the Black Gale, a notorious B-Rank missing-nin from Kumogakure, was known far and wide for his extraordinary speed and mastery over wind-based jutsu. His title, "Black Gale," came from his ability to move like a storm wind, wreaking havoc wherever he went. He was tall and lean, with jet-black hair tied back in a loose ponytail, and dark eyes that flickered with intensity. His attire was a mix of dark gray and black, a long cloak billowing behind him, giving him an ethereal, almost spectral appearance as he moved in the wind. Beside him stood Yūko the Serpent Charmer, a deadly B-Rank missing-nin from Kusagakure. Her mastery over snake summons and poison-based techniques made her a feared combatant. With long, flowing purple hair contrasting against her pale skin and piercing green eyes, Yūko exuded an unsettling charm. She wore a dark green kimono adorned with snake motifs, her arms coiled with serpents that slithered and hissed, always poised to strike at her command. Her movements were fluid and graceful, a perfect match for the serpents she controlled. Together, Raizo and Yūko formed a lethal pair—speed and poison combined, their tactics honed to deadly precision. Shikamaru's mind raced, already calculating the best strategies against this new threat, while Sasuke's Sharingan focused on their movements, analyzing every twitch and shift. Haku, his breath visible in the cold air from the ice jutsu, tightened his grip on his senbon, ready to act.
This wasn't good: two fresh genin and a hunter-nin facing off against two hardened shinobi. Dropping into the kenjutsu stance of his clan, Sasuke drew his blade with practiced ease, while Shikamaru settled into his own stance. "So, you're the one Kira warned us about? Got help from some children? That desperate?" Raizo sneered, taunting them. Haku remained silent, unbothered by the jibe. Hunter-nin didn't respond to such provocations. Instead, with swift precision, Haku launched a barrage of senbon, initiating the conflict. Sasuke saw this as his cue, sprinting toward the enemy. In one fluid motion, he drew three kunai with his free hand and flung them toward Yūko, following it with an upward swing of his tanto. Shikamaru's shadow snaked out in an attempt to capture the targets, but before they could react, Yūko's voice rang out: "(Hebi Hijutsu: Senei Jashu) Hidden Snake Hands."
From her sleeves, a swarm of snakes burst forth. Sasuke's Sharingan flared as he backflipped, slicing the serpents mid-air. But before he could react again, Yūko appeared at his side, delivering a fierce kick to his chest, sending him barreling through the air. Shikamaru quickly abandoned his clan technique, weaving a new set of hand seals. As he molded chakra into his tenketsu, he unleashed: "(Fūton: Daitoppa) Wind Release: Great Breakthrough." A gust of wind blasted Yūko away, giving Sasuke enough time to gather himself. He stood up from where he had been thrown, realizing that despite their numbers, this fight was going to be an uphill battle. These weren't ordinary enemies—this was going to require strategy.
The duo had one advantage though, something their opponents didn't know about. Thanks to a fuinjutsu-based communication seal crafted by Naruto, they could speak to each other directly, though at a limited range. This seal had proved unreliable during the earlier storm, but here, it might just give them the edge they needed. They began circling their opponents, bouncing ideas through their shared seal, grateful for the foresight of their absent teammate.
Meanwhile, ice covered the area, senbon and kunai littering the battlefield. Haku and Raizo, cloaked in black lightning, stood locked in a tense stand-off. Both were masters of speed, but Raizo's lightning-enhanced speed gave him the advantage in brute force, while Haku's ice countered with controlled precision. Despite this, Haku struggled to find an opening for his most powerful technique, the Demonic Mirroring Ice Crystals. Likewise, Raizo was waiting for the perfect opportunity to unleash his devastating purple lightning. But Raizo's impatience got the better of him. With a quick series of hand seals, he molded raiton chakra into his hands, calling out: "(Raiton: Kurokaminari) Black Lightning."
Black lightning crackled to life, shattering the icy formations as an explosion of chakra erupted. A thunderous boom echoed through the clearing as Raizo launched himself forward, coiling with black lightning. Haku leapt above the oncoming strike, weaving his own hand seals. Ice chakra crystallized in his palm as he slammed it into the ground, shouting: "(Hissatsu Hyōsō) Certain-Kill Ice Spears." Giant spears of ice erupted from the earth, turning the battlefield into a deadly forest of glacial spikes. Raizo, undeterred, channeled raiton chakra deep into his body—a deadlier version of the Lightning Release Chakra Mode. Black lightning coursed through his every cell, propelling him forward like a bullet, smashing through the ice as he closed the distance between them.
Haku, quick on his feet, manipulated the ice around him to deflect Raizo's charge, redirecting the lightning-clad shinobi into another formation of ice. With precision, Haku struck at Raizo's cervical-thoracic area, causing the man to stumble and cough up blood. A senbon shot from Haku's hand, aimed directly at Raizo's jugular to end the fight. But in that moment, raw lightning exploded from every tenketsu in Raizo's body. The blast kicked up rocks, dirt, and shards of ice, forcing Haku to shield himself. That momentary lapse would prove fatal. "(Raiton: Raigeki) Lightning Release: Lightning Strike." From the heavens, a bolt of lightning struck Haku head-on, surging through his body and shutting down every nerve. The Yuki-nin fell to the ground, his body limp as the last remnants of lightning danced across his skin
Sasuke and Shikamaru felt the tremors from the nearby battle but had no time to question the abilities of their temporary ally, Raizo. Sasuke's tanto gleamed, slick with blood, but it wasn't human—it was snake. True to her moniker as the Snake Charmer, Yūko had filled the battlefield with serpents, making it nearly impossible for the two Konoha genin to approach her without getting entangled in the writhing mass of scaled bodies. In the center of the serpent carnage, Yūko stood unfazed, boredom written across her face. Without missing a beat, she lazily performed a rapid sequence of hand seals, molding chakra with practiced precision. "(Dokuton: Doku Kiri) Poison Release: Poison Mist," she murmured, her mouth opening to expel an odorless, colorless cloud of toxic gas into the air. Instinctively, both Sasuke and Shikamaru jumped back, evading the creeping mist. Shikamaru's hands moved automatically, weaving seals to counter. "(Fūton: Daitoppa) Wind Release: Great Breakthrough!" he called out, sending a powerful gust that blew the poisonous mist away. But Yūko had already vanished, reappearing behind Shikamaru with a kunai aimed at his back. Reacting swiftly, Shikamaru fired another Great Breakthrough below him, launching himself into the air just in time to avoid her deadly strike. Using the distraction, Sasuke began weaving the seals for one of his clan's signature techniques, his chakra building in preparation. Once airborne, Shikamaru fired another gust of wind toward the poison gas cloud. Yūko, unaffected by her own poison, stood smugly, knowing the gas was of no threat to her. But Sasuke was ready. "(Katon: Gōkakyū no Jutsu) Fire Style: Great Fireball Jutsu!" Sasuke roared as he unleashed the enormous fireball. The gust from Shikamaru's wind technique supercharged the fire, turning it into a blazing inferno that roared toward Yūko like a hellstorm. She quickly formed seals and slammed her hand to the ground. "(Kuchiyose no Jutsu: Kyodaija) Summoning Jutsu: Giant Snake!" A massive snake materialized in front of her, swallowing her whole in an attempt to shield her from the scorching flames. The inferno collided with the snake's scales, superheating them and creating the illusion that Yūko was being cooked alive inside her own summon. For a moment, everything seemed still, the flames flickering out as the storm of fire subsided. But then, Yūko stepped out, smirking. The heat hadn't harmed her—or so she thought. Just as she prepared to speak, her expression faltered. Sasuke's smirk widened as her world shattered. Engulfed in the lingering heat, Yūko's smugness turned to panic as she screamed in agony. Her skin began to sear, burning off as she flailed in the aftermath of the attack. The Snake Charmer was no more. Sasuke and Shikamaru didn't waste any time; they turned and sprinted toward the site of Raizo's battle. When they arrived, the scene before them was grim. Haku stood like a phantom, his form wavering in the cold air. Around him, mirrors of ice and thousands of senbon floated like a deadly dome, locking Raizo inside. The sounds of crackling lightning and shattering glass echoed as the battle reached its peak. Suddenly, Raizo's scream pierced the air. The dome of ice shattered, mirrors dissolving into mist as silence fell over the battlefield. Haku stood, barely able to hold himself up, while Raizo's body lay motionless, impaled by thousands of frozen senbon. His lifeless form collapsed, the black lightning cloak fading from existence. "We need to get to Wave," Shikamaru said, his voice tight. There was no time to waste.
Hi no Kuni - Wave Country - With Shisui
Shisui sat atop Tazuna's house, his mind racing with the recent events. His team's mission, originally a routine C-Rank escort, had spiraled into something much more dangerous. The involvement of Kira Itou, a member of Kaito's rogue group that had fled Konoha, now in league with Gato, complicated everything. And yet, despite all this turmoil, the biggest question on his mind was the whereabouts of Naruto. As if on cue, the forest line stirred. Out from the shadows emerged the genin trio—Sasuke, Shikamaru, and Haku—along with the Kiri Hunter-nin they had been pursuing. Signs of battle were evident, but something else was missing. Shisui flashed before them, worry etched in his face, and asked the question that had haunted him since the start: "Where's Naruto?" Once inside, Tazuna's house buzzed with tension. Both parties recounted their events, piecing together the fragments of their mission-turned-nightmare. Tazuna sat quietly, filled with regret. His earlier silence about Gato's power had put them all in this precarious situation. And now, a team member was missing. Shisui paced back and forth, hand clutching his head as he tried to think. Where could Naruto—Konoha's most dangerous weapon—have disappeared to? His nerves, already stretched thin, gave way, and with no warning, Shisui collapsed, his body overwhelmed.
Hi no Kuni - Capital City - Gato Company Fire Country Branch Office
"You bimbo! How could you let him slip through your fingers?" Gato's voice roared through the office. Kira Itou, arms crossed beneath her chest, stood there with gritted teeth. Her injuries were severe, her Tenketsu aching, and every step she took came with sharp pain. Fighting Shisui of the Body Flicker was a losing battle, and she knew it. Her own technique, Dohatsuten, was still incomplete, and the strain from using it had taken a toll. "If I had kept fighting, he would have killed me," Kira replied, her tone edged with bitterness. "Whose fault is that?" Gato shot back, glaring at her. "You were supposed to have Raizo and Yuko as backup, but now look at the mess we're in. How do you expect me to hold up my end of the deal with your leader after this disaster?" Gato paced, cane gripped tightly in his hand. "You better be lucky that Wave isn't essential to my plans anymore, or I would have you crawling in the dirt." Kira remained silent. He was right. Her impulsive actions had jeopardized everything. "Prepare yourself. We're heading back to Wave. We'll finish this once and for all. And if we need to, we'll level the entire place," Gato spat, storming out. Outside, a massive bird summon awaited him. They mounted the creature and set off to clean up the mess.
The Next Day - Hi no Kuni - Land of Wave - Tazuna's House
Shisui woke the next morning, feeling slightly better but the events of the last few days weighed heavily on his mind. As he stretched and shook off the soreness, he noticed he had been moved to a proper bed, most likely by his team. Heading downstairs, he saw Shikamaru, Sasuke, and Haku sitting together, talking quietly. Shisui's heart lightened as he saw Haku, and without a second thought, he pulled the Hunter-nin into a warm hug. "It's so good to see you, Haku-chan," he said with a smile. Haku returned the embrace and smiled softly. After a few seconds, they separated, each taking a seat at the table. Wave Country, once just another stop on their journey, now seemed shrouded in mystery. Shisui's mind turned to the bigger picture, thoughts racing, and then suddenly, it clicked. "Wave isn't essential," he muttered, staring into the distance. "What do you mean?" Shikamaru asked, raising an eyebrow. "Think about it. Gato is one of the most powerful men in the world financially, and he used to be ranked as an S-Rank criminal. If he truly wanted Tazuna dead, why has it taken him this long to stop him? What was holding him back?" Shisui explained. Silence followed. Shikamaru furrowed his brow, the gears turning in his head. "Something big is going on with Gato Company. It's not just about Wave Country anymore, is it? There's more to this, something much larger in play." Shisui nodded. "Exactly. We don't have enough proof to launch an official investigation yet, but I'm sure Gato is coming here himself now, either to salvage the situation or cut his losses. Either way, we need to be ready."
With that, all members of Team Seven stood up from their places at the table, including Haku. The ground trembled violently as the lights flickered, followed by an explosion. In the distance, a dark figure appeared in a crater formed by the impact. It was Gato. He stood before Tazuna's house, his small, circular glasses catching the dim light. He wore a black suit, a purple tie, and clutched his cane tightly, staring past the group toward the house. His cold gaze slowly shifted toward Shisui and then Haku. "So you're the shinobi causing him trouble," Gato sneered. Spinning his cane with casual arrogance, he began to hum a low tune. Suddenly, Kira landed beside him, her presence igniting tension as Haku drew a set of senbon. Sasuke and Shisui immediately reached for their weapons, and Shikamaru dropped into a stance. "This won't do," Gato grumbled, nodding to Kira. "Kira, handle the boy. I'll deal with the rest." In a flash, Shisui vanished, flickering across the battlefield, leaving nothing but afterimages. His sword sliced through the air toward Gato's throat. But as it connected, it clanged against an invisible barrier, bouncing off without leaving a mark. Gato smirked, unscathed. Distracted, Shisui was unprepared for Kira's strike—a devastating punch to the gut that sent him hurtling into the forest behind them.
The battle had begun.
The air trembled as Shisui and Kira's fight erupted in the forest, their chakra clashing in violent waves that sent shockwaves throughout the area. Back at the battlefield, the Genin trio felt the ground quake beneath their feet as they turned their attention to Gato. His presence was unsettling, but they had to focus. Haku moved first, weaving hand seals with fluid precision, molding his chakra.
"Suiton: Kirigakure no Jutsu (Water Release: Hiding in Mist Technique)," Haku whispered. A thick mist engulfed the battlefield, shrouding everything in dense fog. The team separated, vanishing into the mist. Haku circled Gato, who stood motionless, seemingly unbothered by the sudden lack of visibility. The tension thickened as Haku moved swiftly with Sairento Kiringu (Silent Killing), aiming to end it quickly. His senbon sailed through the air, followed by Sasuke's tanto and Shikamaru's kunai. Gato's hand lazily rose to the sky. With a flick of his wrist, the projectiles froze in midair, suspended like toys caught in a web of invisible force. Sasuke, hanging mid-strike, released his tanto, dropping back into the mist. Haku's eyes narrowed as he formed more hand seals. "Hijutsu: Sensatsu Suishō (Secret Art of Water: The Thousand Stinging Needles of Death)!" The mist condensed, forming hundreds of water needles that shot toward Gato in a deadly barrage. Lightning fast, they tore through the air, each aiming for a vital point. But Gato remained still, boredom crossing his features.
"Boring." Sasuke and Shikamaru, positioned strategically, weaved hand seals of their own, coordinating their attacks. "Kage Kubi Shibari no Jutsu (Shadow Neck Bind Technique)!" Shikamaru called out, as his shadow shot forward, locking onto Gato's own. "Raiton: Sandābōru (Lightning Release: Thunderbolt Strike)!" Sasuke roared, lightning sparking to life in his palm, vibrating violently. He hurled the bolt, the energy crackling toward Gato. "Boring. Boring. BORING!" Gato's voice rang out, his cane slamming into the ground. With no hand seals, he summoned his chakra. The earth roared in response. "Doton: Daichidōkaku (Earth Release: Great Moving Earth Core)!" The entire landscape of Wave Country shifted violently. The ground cracked open, deep fissures spreading out like a web of destruction, swallowing the land. Hills crumbled, forests shook, and the very ocean surged as massive trenches formed. The Genin trio struggled as the earth opened beneath them, threatening to entomb them alive. They clung to the walls of the trench, channeling chakra to their feet, barely avoiding the crushing rocks as the ground sought to close in.
The sheer scale of the jutsu was mind-numbing. The entire country seemed to tremble as the landscape shifted under Gato's command. Floating on a platform of rock, Gato watched the destruction unfold. He was a god among men. As he hovered above Tazuna's house, his hand slowly raised. The ground beneath the house began to crack. The windows shattered as Tazuna's daughter screamed inside. Gato's lips curled into a smirk as his fingers tightened, ready to bring the building down.
But from the mist, a fiery figure burst forth. Sasuke charged, his body engulfed in untamed flames. His chakra burned wildly, barely contained, shifting between colors as it threatened to tear his body apart. The second tomoe in his Sharingan spun, his speed blurring as he closed the gap toward Gato. But before he could land a blow, a giant rock fist materialized, slamming into Sasuke with terrifying force. "Doton: Kengan no Jutsu (Earth Release: Fist Rock Technique)!" Gato called, his voice laced with dark satisfaction. Sasuke's flames exploded upon impact, sending him crashing into the earth with a force that left a crater in the ground. He lay there, struggling to breathe, his body broken but his spirit still fighting.
Shikamaru, watching the devastation around him, knew they were outmatched. Gato was toying with them, and there was nothing they could do to stop it. Every plan, every tactic, crumbled beneath the weight of the destruction he unleashed. Haku stood frozen, disbelief etched across his face. He had thought they could take Gato down. But this... this was a monster, an immovable iron mountain. He couldn't help but wonder: what creates a man like this? What births a monster? Just as the question crossed his mind, the air shifted again—this time, with a powerful, malevolent chakra. Red energy erupted across the battlefield, forming a massive chakra avatar. A titanic blade swung down at Gato. "Kinzokuton: Kin Tate (Metal Release: Golden Shield)!" Gato called, as shimmering shards of metal shot from the ground, forming a shield. The sword crashed into the barrier, holding for a brief moment before shattering. But it was enough time for Gato to escape, moving with unnatural speed. The arrival of Konoha's ANBU was like a storm. They flickered into the battlefield, weapons drawn, the captain barking orders. But Gato floated above them, calm and amused. "Gato, surrender yourself!" the ANBU captain commanded. "Face judgment within the courts of Hi no Kuni!" Gato laughed darkly, slamming his cane into the ground. The earth trembled once more as he began weaving hand seals, his chakra surging to monstrous levels. "Kinzokuton: Tekkōsatsu (Metal Release: Iron Crucifixion)!" From the shattered ground, spikes of iron erupted, impaling the ANBU with ruthless precision. The battlefield turned into a deadly maze of metal as everyone scrambled to dodge the spikes. Gato watched the chaos unfold before vanishing into a swirl of metal shards, leaving only his final words. "I'll see you all very soon."
The battle ended as quickly as it began, but the aftermath lingered. Kira stood on the battlefield, exhausted, her body marked with shallow cuts. Shisui, his three-tomoe Sharingan spinning, approached her slowly. Without a word, his eyes shifted into the Mangekyō Sharingan, the left eye glowing ominously. "Kotoamatsukami (Distinguished Heavenly Gods)," he whispered. In an instant, Kira's mind was ensnared. The suggestion implanted deeply within her. "You no longer seek vengeance on Kirigakure. Instead, you will work from within Kaito's group to prevent further chaos and destruction. You will strive to build a just world, protect the innocent, and pursue redemption. One day, you may even return to the village you once called home." As the genjutsu settled in, Shisui closed his eye, the strain evident. He flickered out of existence, leaving only the echo of rustling leaves behind.
One Week Later - Hi no Kuni - Konohagakure no Sato - Council Chamber
The largest attack on Hi no Kuni (Fire Country) since the Third Great Shinobi War had left the village on high alert. Construction of the new bridge had been overseen by the Fire Daimyo's Court, and after much back-and-forth, Gato, now marked as an S-Rank rogue in Konohagakure's Bingo Book, had been dealt with decisively. The mission to Wave Country concluded successfully when Team Seven was replaced by a platoon of ANBU. Tazuna was brought back to Konoha once construction was completed, facing a verbal onslaught from the village leader, both as Hokage and as a father. Team Seven was granted a month's leave, returning just in time for the Chūnin Exams to be held in Tetsu no Kuni (Land of Iron). Now, it was time to debrief all parties after a week of much-needed rest.
"And given the tactics displayed by Naruto Uzumaki against a contingent of Kumogakure and Iwagakure shinobi, I propose he should be field-promoted to Chūnin and drafted into ANBU Black Ops." All of the clan heads nodded in agreement except for Hyūga Hiashi and Uchiha Fugaku. "Denied," came the firm voice of the Fourth Hokage, Hiashi following suit. "Consider this: these skills are clearly worthy of a Chūnin, but the largest Chūnin Exams to date are imminent," Hiashi continued.
"Exposing talent like that could significantly enhance Konoha's mission flow," Fugaku added. His statement was directed at the recent graduates, noting Sasuke's ability to channel chakra into his blade at such a young age, and the peculiar fire technique that resembled the Rasengan yet differed in execution. Shikamaru's tactical prowess was commendable, but being matched against an opponent like Gato didn't hold much weight if they could simply overpower him.
Minato found himself staring at the papers before him as discussions continued. "Shisui, report." Kakashi stepped into the shadows as Shisui walked out. The room fell silent, all eyes on Shisui—a familiar sight during ANBU reports, but now he stood simply as Uchiha Shisui, Jōnin of Konohagakure. Clearing his throat, he began, "During the initial part of the mission, I faced Kira Itou, a member of Kaito Tsukino's rogue group. She was weakened; I could tell that a technique she used had severely damaged her tenketsu, so she disappeared. The path to Konoha was blocked by missing-nin, presumably paid off by Gato. While protecting Tazuna and clearing a path was possible, it would have left me ill-prepared should Kira or Gato himself appear. So, I continued with my mission to Wave Country with haste."
"In the following days, I watched over Tazuna as he built his bridge, and then my team arrived. To my shame, I was informed of Naruto and passed out for the night. The following day, I connected the dots, and that's when the battle broke out. I confronted Kira and defeated her. Instead of killing her, I used my Mangekyō Sharingan on her." This revelation caused Minato to look up, and Fugaku's eyes widened; they were among the few who understood the abilities of the Sharingan and the cost associated with using them.
"What was your suggestion?" Minato asked. "To stop seeking revenge and instead focus on redemption, preventing the chaos Kaito planned." The other clan heads exchanged confused glances. "Why not eliminate her? It could weaken his allies," Tsume questioned. "In the long term, this approach is more advantageous. Trust me," Fugaku replied. "With that, I'm calling an end to this meeting. The Chūnin Exams are approaching; please prepare your clansmen. Upon my departure for the finals, I will appoint Shikaku in charge and Fugaku head of the shinobi forces, leaving Jiraiya and Akira here. If anything arises, I've also called back Ryuko Yamashiro." "It's almost as if you're expecting something," Hiashi noted. "Honestly, I am. Kumogakure and Iwagakure are cunning like that. Dismissed."
Later That Day - Konohagakure no Sato - Department of War and Strategy
Orochimaru was a busy man, especially with the Chūnin Exams approaching. His spies only reported on matters he preferred to ignore—rumors of war were escalating, and training exercises were becoming frequent. However, he always made time for what mattered most.
Unbeknownst to most, Orochimaru and Naruto shared a unique bond, forged through their perspectives on the world. Naruto approached Orochimaru with a storage scroll in hand, observing the artwork that adorned the walls and the bookshelves he had perused as a child. "What can I do for you, young Naruto?" Orochimaru inquired, regaining his focus. Naruto met his gaze and placed the scroll down on the desk, revealing intricate Fuinjutsu designs. Orochimaru's eyes lit up as he examined the seals—one that masked chakra, another for soundless communication, and many more. "I've been testing some designs, and I'm happy with the outcomes. I wanted to know your thoughts." Orochimaru flipped through the scroll before looking up with a serious expression. "Naruto, I want you to sign the Snake Summoning Contract and become my first and only true student." Silence filled the room as Naruto processed the request. "I don't use Kenjutsu." "That doesn't matter." Orochimaru continued flipping through the papers before stating, "These seals have immense potential for Konoha. With my knowledge in your hands, great things could be achieved." This offer made Naruto contemplate. Minutes of silence passed before he finally replied, "I'll do it."
Hi no Kuni - Uchiha Clan Compound
The past few weeks had opened Sasuke's eyes. After facing Gato, he understood that there were powerful individuals beyond Hi no Kuni. Of course, he was aware of this, but now he truly grasped the extent of it. Sasuke trained with Shisui in the Uchiha Clan training ground while Itachi observed. With a leap, Sasuke swung his tanto toward Shisui's throat. Shisui blocked the strike, redirecting Sasuke's momentum with a kick to his chest. "Good, you're moving more fluidly. You're improving quickly," Shisui praised. Sasuke stood up, shaking off the dirt as he molded chakra in his open hand. Flames danced before calming, expanding down his forearm, the color shifting. Shisui watched in awe as Sasuke charged at him, leaving a fiery trail behind. 'To create a jutsu at such a young age…' he thought. Shisui dropped into a defensive stance, preparing to block as he sensed Sasuke's chakra spike inches away. His eyes widened, contemplating his next move. In a flash, Jiraiya appeared in the training ground, deflecting Sasuke's blazing arm upward. An explosion of flames erupted, creating a mushroom cloud visible throughout Konoha. Silence filled the training ground as the ramifications of the moment sank in. "That was impressive, kid, but you lack the control for such a technique. You risk damaging your chakra network," Jiraiya explained, kneeling to apply minor medical ninjutsu. "Your tenketsu are overloaded, but that technique is powerful. What will you call it?" "(Katon: Homura no Tenohira) Fire Release: Blazing Palm," Sasuke replied, cradling his arm. Jiraiya stood with a grin. "I want you to become a toad summoner." Shisui snapped out of his reverie, pointing his tanto at Jiraiya. "No, he's my student." "I'm not trying to steal him," Jiraiya said, hands raised. "But with skills like Sasuke's, the toads could help him master his techniques, along with a few jutsu." Shisui lowered his blade, turning his gaze to Sasuke, determination evident on his face. 'I can surpass Naruto,' he thought.
Hi no Kuni - Konohagakure - Department of War and Strategy - Research and Weapons Development Division
Shikamaru spent his days playing shōgi with an unexpected guest, Taro Kurogane. There wasn't a single Konoha shinobi unaware of Taro's name. He had a lean, wiry build, dressed in dark, practical attire suited for his workshop. His tousled hair and intense eyes sparkled with inspiration whenever he discussed weaponry. Taro's hands bore the marks of his craft, showing years of dedication. After starting discussions with Shikamaru's father, Taro began mentoring the young Nara. Over the past week, Shikamaru was exposed to Taro's unique approach to weaponry. Taro was the weapons master of Konohagakure, developing new technologies while pursuing the "perfect weapon." To him, every weapon was a work of art, crafted to match the skill of its wielder. While he was a recluse, interacting only with those he deemed worthy, Taro's single-minded focus often made him seem detached. Yet, to those who understood him, he was deeply committed to his craft.
Chapter Seven: The Storm of Shadows END
Authors Notes: Well I didn't expect to finish this chapter in a day but it is what it is, sadly I'll be getting busier soon so upload will be sporadic. I honestly didn't know how to introduce the sensei's of the three so I saw a decent opportunity compared to what was coming in the future so I took it, I promise other teams will get screen time soon I have so but written for the Chunin Exams that I don't even know how long it'll take to cover it all. I'm also thinking about changing the name because I didn't realize how many other things had the title Echoes of Destiny… Imma do that… I'm thinking Beyond the Ashen Sky, see you guys next time!
