Chapter Eight: Chunin Exams pt I

Hi no Kuni - Konohagakure no Sato - Hokage Office

After a month of anticipation, the time had finally come for the Chunin Exams. Following months of deliberation and heated debates about which Genin teams would participate, nearly all teams had been eliminated for one reason or another. Only three remained, and everything had to be perfect, for this exam was not like any before it. Standing in front of the village council were three elite Jonin: Shisui of the Body Flicker, Maito Gai, Konoha's Green Beast, and Kurenai, the Genjutsu Mistress. Minato Namikaze, the Fourth Hokage, carefully reviewed the profiles of their respective teams, his sharp blue eyes flicking over the pages. With a final glance at the trio before him, he set the files down.

"Let's get one thing clear," Minato began, his voice steady but firm. "This is no ordinary Chunin Exam. Your teams will not only represent Konohagakure but all of Hi no Kuni. How they perform will have far-reaching consequences, possibly reshaping the political and financial landscape for years to come. So, I ask you, do you believe in your teams? Will they uphold the standards of our village?"

Outside the Hokage Tower, in Training Ground Ten, the selected Genin teams gathered, waiting for their respective sensei. They all knew what the summons meant: they had been chosen. It was surprising, however, just how few teams had made the cut. Breaking off into smaller groups, Naruto and Shikamaru sat down for a game of shoji while Hinata and Shino observed from the sidelines. Meanwhile, Sasuke sparred lightly with Tenten and Kiba, while Rock Lee and Neji exchanged measured strikes nearby.

Neji, though focused on his sparring, couldn't help but glance towards Hinata, his cousin. Once dismissed as the failure of the Hyuga Clan, Hinata was now respected as the Heiress, something Neji struggled to accept. It wasn't what fate had intended, and the thought gnawed at him. As he disarmed Lee with a precise strike to a vital point, he couldn't shake the sense of injustice. Lee, ever the optimist, grinned despite his arm going limp.

"I expected nothing less from my eternal rival! Excellent, Neji-kun!" Lee exclaimed, full of his usual energy.

Neji, used to his teammate's boundless enthusiasm, walked over to where Hinata stood, casting a long shadow over her. Hinata sensed him but didn't acknowledge his presence, keeping her attention on the shoji game. Shikamaru moved a piece, and after a few moments of careful deliberation, Naruto made his counter, capturing one of Shikamaru's pieces. In response, Shikamaru made another move, which caused Shino to speak up from the sidelines.

"It's Shikamaru's victory," Shino observed, his voice calm and steady. Naruto, unfazed, gave a respectful bow and stepped back, allowing Shino to take his place at the board.

As Naruto walked away, he passed by Hinata and Neji. He glanced up at the tense situation and spoke, his tone casual but firm. "You're hovering. It's annoying."

Neji's eyes narrowed, his temper flaring as he glared at Naruto. But before things could escalate, Hinata intervened, her voice soft but commanding. "Naruto-kun, let him be."

Hinata had tried for some time to reconcile with Neji, hoping to mend the rift between them, but her efforts had been repeatedly rebuffed. She knew there was only one path left to bridge the divide between them: prove her strength in battle. Naruto shrugged and took a seat nearby as Neji's anger simmered beneath the surface. Reaching out, Neji made a move to grab Hinata, but she acted swiftly, grasping his wrist in a firm, unyielding hold. The tension between them hung in the air, thick and palpable.

Before anything more could unfold, their sensei arrived, breaking the tension. Gai, Kurenai, and Shisui approached the gathered Genin with a serious air, holding the forms that would officially enter them into the Chunin Exams. All sparring and games ceased as the Genin formed a group, awaiting instruction.

"You are the only teams that qualified for this year's Chunin Exam," Gai began, his usual enthusiasm replaced by a rare, grave tone.

Kurenai handed each of the Genin their respective forms as Gai continued. "This is not just any exam. Tensions between us, Kumogakure, and Iwagakure have been rising, and this exam will be the largest stage in history, held in the Land of Iron. The eyes of the entire world—Shinobi and civilian alike—will be on you."

Shisui, who had been silent until now, spoke up, his voice calm but with an unmistakable edge. "This won't just be an exam for promotion. You'll be representing Konoha and Hi no Kuni before the world. Any slip-up could have far-reaching consequences, and I'm not just talking about your rank. Professionalism is paramount."

Kiba, always ready with a cheeky comment, opened his mouth to speak, but Kurenai's sharp look silenced him before he could get a word out. Her gaze was cold as she addressed him directly. "Kiba, this is not the time for jokes. One mistake here could end your shinobi career before it even starts. Do not take this lightly."

Kiba's mouth snapped shut, and the atmosphere grew even more tense.

Shisui continued, "There will be no further team training this week. Take this time to prepare yourselves mentally and physically. We leave for Tetsu no Kuni in seven days. Dismissed."

Hi no Kuni - Konohagakure no Sato - Hokage Office - Council Chamber

In the council chamber, the tension was palpable as the most influential figures in Konoha gathered: the Noble Clan Heads, all three of the Legendary Sannin, the ANBU leader known as Dragon, and of course, the Hokage, Minato Namikaze. Minato stood at the head of the room, his fingers tapping rhythmically against the table as he collected his thoughts. This meeting, he knew, would be one of the most significant since the end of the Third Great Shinobi War. Breaking the silence, Jiraiya chuckled lightly, causing Fugaku Uchiha to smirk, but it was the Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi, who spoke with gravity, "Sadly, it must be done."

Minato acknowledged the sentiment with a nod, his tapping coming to a stop, signaling that the meeting had officially begun. Looking up at the assembled group, he began, "Alright, I'll be heading for Tetsu no Kuni (Land of Iron) at the end of the first Chūnin Exam and will remain away through the second and final exams. I won't be taking any ANBU guards—only three: Itachi, Obito, and Kakashi. Any objections?" Fugaku was the first to respond, his expression serious, "Why reduce your security? Taking only three guards shows weakness when your Royal Guard would be better used by your side."

Minato turned towards the Sannin next, fingers interlocking as he addressed them. "During my absence, the three of you will no longer appear in public. Instead, Itachi, Obito, and Kakashi will be posing as the Sannin." Hiruzen, still puffing on his pipe, nodded approvingly. The plan was layered in deception; as long as no one got too close to the disguised trio, the ruse would hold. "Of course," Minato continued, "we must anticipate that Kumo or Iwa may try to strike, especially with me out of the village and isolated from communication. To make it even more tempting, I'll weaken Konoha further by taking the Sannin with me."

The room fell into a stunned silence, particularly from Hiashi Hyūga, who struggled to process the audacity of the plan. It was, to him, pure cunning—almost villainous in its complexity. "This is truly evil, Minato," Hiashi finally said, though there was an appreciative smirk forming on his face. Minato responded with his own grin. "During my absence, Shikaku Nara and the Sandaime will oversee the village. This is all, of course, under the assumption that things will go to hell in my absence. Any questions?" It was Orochimaru who broke the silence, his voice laced with curiosity. "Should we interpret this as an act of war?" Minato's answer was swift and decisive. "Yes. If a contingent from Kumo or Iwa were to attack during this time, we would treat it as the opening act of a war." The gravity of his words lingered in the air, as everyone in the room understood the implications. The stage was being set, and Konoha was ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead..

Namikaze Household

Over the past month, it had become a common occurrence for Team 7 to gather at the Namikaze residence. The guards, by now accustomed to their frequent visits, no longer questioned their arrival. Today, they found themselves in Naruto's room. Shikamaru lay sprawled across the bed, half-asleep, while Sasuke was deeply engrossed in the vast collection of books in Naruto's library. Naruto, meanwhile, meticulously checked over his equipment—his tanto and numerous seals—before plopping down next to Shikamaru, causing the bed to shake slightly and snap Nara out of his daze.

Rubbing his eyes, Shikamaru glanced at Naruto, then at Sasuke. "What was your training like?" he asked lazily. Sasuke paused from his reading, thinking. "Jiraiya-sensei taught me a lot," he said, "and he helped me refine the fire technique I came up with when we were facing Gato." Naruto hadn't witnessed the event firsthand, but he'd heard plenty about it. The times had certainly changed, and he couldn't help but wonder who'd come out on top if he and Sasuke fought now. The Uchiha had grown stronger. "I also signed the Toad Summoning Contract," Sasuke added.

Naruto instinctively pulled his sleeve down, hiding the summoning tattoo on his forearm. His first summoning of the snakes had been a disaster, accidentally pouring too much chakra and calling forth Manda—a memory he'd rather not relive.

He spaced out for a moment, lost in thought, until he noticed both Shikamaru and Sasuke staring at him, waiting. "Well," Naruto said, his voice steady, "Orochimaru is my sensei." Silence fell over the room. The fact that all of the Sannin had taken an interest in Naruto was well-known, but the fact that he had chosen the Snake Sannin over the others was still a surprise. After a moment, Shikamaru and Sasuke shared a look and nodded, seemingly coming to an unspoken understanding. Naruto didn't ask what that was.

"I've picked up some kenjutsu," Naruto continued, "but I'm not as good as Sasuke-san." He rarely called Sasuke by his actual name, which caught both of his teammates slightly off guard. A knock on the door interrupted them. The Yondaime Hokage himself, Minato Namikaze, peeked his head inside, causing Shikamaru and Sasuke to momentarily stiffen, reminded once again of their teammate's lineage. "I didn't know we had guests," Minato said, smiling warmly. "Food's ready. There's plenty if you kids want to join us."

Shikamaru and Sasuke exchanged a quick glance before nodding. They stood up and followed Naruto and his father through the well-kept halls of the Namikaze household, finding themselves in the dining room where a spread of food awaited them. The trio took their seats at one end of the table, with Minato and Naruto on the opposite side. After saying grace, they began to eat small compliments about the food exchanged here and there, until Minato broke the silence. "So," Minato asked, eyes glinting with a hint of amusement, "are you little genin ready for the exams?"

Naruto continued eating without responding, but Shikamaru and Sasuke paused, considering the question. Shikamaru, ever the strategist, was first to speak. "Unlike most teams, we might not have as many high-level missions under our belt," he said thoughtfully, "but I think we've got what it takes to get promoted." Sasuke nodded, his expression calm yet resolute. "I believe we'll be promoted," he added confidently. Minato smirked at their determination, but his gaze lingered on Naruto, who quietly continued his meal, focused, as always.

One Week Later - Tetsu no Kuni (Land of Iron)

Tetsu no Kuni, the Land of Iron, stands as a bastion of neutrality and strength amid the turbulent ninja nations. Built to withstand not only the harsh climate but also the test of time, the village is fortified by thick stone walls reinforced with iron, giving it an imposing, steely appearance. The entryway, a massive iron gate adorned with intricate carvings of samurai legends, leads into the heart of the village, where cobbled streets wind between multi-leveled buildings clad in slate and reinforced wood. The architecture is a blend of practicality and elegance; sharp, angular roofs help shed the heavy snowfalls, while the metal accents and stonework reflect the resilience of the samurai who call it home.

At the center of the village stands a grand dojo and tournament arena, designed in a traditional samurai style with high, arched eaves and banners bearing the symbols of Tetsu no Kuni. This arena, constructed to hold hundreds of spectators, is ringed with a high stone wall and viewing platforms, offering a breathtaking view of the mountains beyond. Massive torches line the perimeter, their flames flickering defiantly against the cold winds. Beside it, the primary market square hums with activity, selling rare teas, sturdy woolen garments, and weapons of iron craftsmanship unique to the region. Statues of past warriors and revered leaders stand solemnly along the main pathways, their stern expressions silently reminding all visitors of the land's unbroken traditions and dedication to honor.

Despite the village's imposing atmosphere, the community exudes a quiet warmth; locals in thick, layered garments nod politely to strangers, and small hot springs tucked between buildings offer relief from the biting cold. At night, the village is bathed in a soft glow from hanging lanterns, their light reflecting off the snow and iron structures, casting a serene, almost ethereal glow over the village, transforming it into a scene of tranquil beauty amid the unforgiving wilderness. This unique setting offers an ideal backdrop for the intense competition of the Chunin Exams, where only the most resilient will endure.

The Genin all gathered together, it wasn't their first time out of the village but it was their first time being subjected to such cold weather. They were all teleported to the Land in a flash thanks to the Royal Guards of the Hokage preventing the possibility of any kind of attack, there Jounin sensei had felt them in the middle of the bustling streets people from foreign countries already gathered for the exams. Shino pushed his glasses up as they fogged up from the temperature "This was not what I was expecting." Naruto tilted his head to the side turning to face Shino with a questioning look on his face, Shino looked back expectedly "I don't believe I've never played you in Shoji Shino-kun, we must change that with the time presented to us before the exams." Shino nodded as their Jounin Sensei walked towards them, Gai passed out different keys with room numbers as Kurenai spoke "Alright, these are your room keys for the duration of the exam. They have your room number on them as well and if you lose it you're out of luck. Come on, stick together." Kurenai led the group as Gai and Shisui walked behind making sure no one got lost, walking a short distance they soon arrived at the hotel. "Alright here we are." As they walked in all of their jaws dropped,

It was a towering structure of polished stone and iron that blended luxury with the martial traditions of Tetsu no Kuni. The lobby features intricate ironwork, from the chandeliers to the carved railings, while large windows let in natural light, casting a warm glow on plush furnishings. A grand staircase spirals upwards, leading to spacious rooms, each outfitted with comfortable futons, silk bedding, and iron-heated floors. Decorative banners and paintings of samurai battles adorn the walls. The hotel offers amenities like hot springs and a lavish dining hall, providing the young shinobi a glimpse of refined elegance amidst the backdrop of their impending trials. "Wow." Kiba spoke the single word, a smile formed on the Sensei's faces as Shisui spoke "Alright tomorrow you'll be all alone without our assistance, it'll be your cell against everyone else but remember the most important part. We are representing Konoha and her interests."

Things were finally getting real, it was truly happening. Tomorrow would be the day that their lives begin to change forever.

kaminari no Kuni (Land of Lightning) - Kumogakure - Raikage

It was finally time, all of the meetings had led up to this point. Tensions had only grown as skirmishes had already broken out across the border between Kumo and Konoha shinobi with stand off between Iwa and Konoha and at this point it was high time for someone to make the first move in this big game, so a signal was set. A contingent of Kumogakure and Iwagakure shinobi containing two jinchūriki one from each village, if Konoha were to do or try anything while all of their kage were gone the signal would be given and hell would be unleashed upon that damned Leaf village.

"Alright, all of the affairs are in order, after end of the second exam I'll begin my Journey to Tetsu no Kuni (Land of Iron)"

This was the reason they stayed militarized, maybe if that damned Yondaime Hokage had died things might've been different. Their expansion threatened the well crafted balance of the Shinobi World and with a single step things might just break.

Next Day - Tetsu no Kuni - Chunin Exams: First Trial

The large hall in Tetsu no Kuni buzzed with the energy of anticipation. Dozens of genin teams, gathered from various villages, waited for the announcement of the first exam. Samurai lined the room's perimeter, their presence adding to the atmosphere of discipline and severity.

Team Seven stood together, their eyes trained on a face they hadn't expected to see at the Chūnin Exams: Haku. Sasuke's gaze narrowed, suspicion clear as he assessed Haku. "This—this isn't fair. You're at least a Chūnin, maybe even a Jōnin," he said, a hint of frustration lacing his voice.

Haku's gentle smile widened slightly. "What do you mean?" he replied, enjoying the game. He was aware that the exams were likely filled with shinobi plants, disguised as Genin to test the mettle of the real candidates. Most of the examinees here, Haku knew, weren't as inexperienced as they appeared. His gaze sharpened momentarily, sending a wave of unease through Sasuke. Instinctively, Sasuke lowered his stance, readying himself—only to feel a hand rest on his shoulder.

"Sasuke-kun," Naruto said calmly, "you don't yet understand your own potential. I hope this exam gives you that clarity." Just then, a familiar voice rang out. "Look, it's Naruto-kun!" Naruto turned, a smile spreading across his face as he recognized the blonde kunoichi approaching him. "Temari-san, you look stunning." Temari's expression softened, and Naruto greeted her warmly, then extended a hand to her siblings. He shook Kankuro's hand and offered a nod of respect to Gaara, who held a book tightly in his grasp.

At the front of the hall, a tall samurai in ornate armor stepped forward, raising his hand for silence. His face was stern, eyes sharp like the blade at his side. Behind him stood several Chūnin Exam proctors from different villages, nodding in approval. The samurai's voice cut through the chatter, calm but commanding: "Welcome to the first trial of the Chūnin Exams, held here in the Land of Iron. Today, you will be tested not only on your strength but on your ability to think, move in shadows, and solve what lies hidden before you. This exam will require teamwork, intelligence, and the ability to blend into the surroundings of our great land without being detected. Remember, this is no mere exercise in combat—this is an examination of your adaptability as shinobi."

He paused, letting the weight of his words sink in.

"The task is simple. Each of your teams will be assigned a target—an individual who will be moving through the regions surrounding Tetsu no Kuni's main city. Your goal is to follow this target discreetly. You must gather intelligence on their movements, habits, and behaviors without being discovered. Your ultimate objective: use the information you gather to crack a code that will lead you to the final meeting point of this exam."

"How it Works"

"The details are as follows: Each team will receive the name, description, and starting location of their target. You are to follow the target, gather key pieces of information, and determine the meaning of the clues they unknowingly provide. The targets are all high-ranking officials, nobles, or key merchants from our land. They have been briefed to go about their normal routines, but they will be alert to any signs of pursuit. you must remain hidden. If your team is discovered by your target or intercepted by our samurai patrols, your mission will be over. Failure means elimination. Once you have collected enough information, you will crack a code. The solution to this code will unlock the location of a hidden outpost. Reaching this outpost before the deadline will secure your place in the next exam."

He gestured to the rows of samurai in the room.

"Our samurai patrols will also be moving through the examination zones. If they spot you, or if you engage with them or any villagers unnecessarily, you will lose points or be disqualified altogether. Stealth and discretion are of utmost importance. This is not a combat trial, so do not let your strength lead you astray."

He turned, pointing to several boards behind him, each covered with papers sealed with wax. A proctor stepped forward and opened the first scroll, revealing the details of one of the targets: " Target Name: Ichi Sakamoto, Commander of the Samurai Guard Starting Point: Northern Watchtower near the outskirts of the main city Brief: Ichi Sakamoto is known for his regimented behavior. He travels frequently to inspect the defenses of the northern border, maintaining a strict routine. He often stops at notable landmarks—shrines, villages, and outposts—to oversee their security. Observing these stops will be crucial in determining the pattern of his movements. Clue: "Where iron strikes twice and shadows meet, the answer lies in the steps of the commander."

The samurai nodded, then gestured to the other scrolls which remained sealed.

"Each team will receive similar information for their respective targets, but each clue is unique. Remember, the targets are unaware of the exact details of the code, so they will not lead you directly to the answer. You must observe closely, identify patterns, and use your intelligence to uncover the key."

The Exam Begins

"Before we send you off, I must remind you of a few rules," the samurai continued. " Rule One: Do not engage with your target directly. Rule Two: Avoid being spotted by any samurai patrols. Rule Three: If your target disappears from your sight, recover quickly. But if they realize they are being followed and change their route completely, your exam will be at risk of failure. Rule Four: Cooperation between teams is allowed, but you will be judged individually, and sabotage is forbidden. Attempts to interfere with other teams may result in disqualification. You will have a time limit of three days. Once this time is up, those who have not successfully cracked the code and found the meeting point will be eliminated. Rule Five. The usage of communication devices are not allowed, during missions you may not have access to all of your resources."

The hall buzzed with tension, and the proctor looked over the crowd of genin teams. "Now, each team will receive a sealed envelope containing the details of your target. Open it only once you are in the examination zone. Good luck. The first trial begins... now."

Tetsu no Kuni (Land of Iron) - First Exam Location

The mountainous terrain of Tetsu no Kuni (Land of Iron) stretched for miles under a pale sky. Amid the cold winds and frozen landscape, Team Seven moved silently, hidden from sight. Their mission for the first exam was simple in theory: follow their assigned target, gather information, and use that intel to crack a specific code tied to the target's movements. But in practice, this was a test of wit, strategy, and stealth. Their assigned target, Commander Ichi Sakamoto, an influential figure known for his impeccable security, was currently being tailed. Each team had been assigned a different target, but Commander Ichi was one of the most challenging, always surrounded by a retinue of vigilant samurai. For Team Seven, that was the perfect challenge.

Naruto, crouched on a high branch overlooking a small valley, was the lead observer. He had already placed a discreet fūinjutsu seal in an area near their path—an advanced technique that masked his and his team's chakra presence. The seal was complex, requiring precision, and had been one of the more difficult aspects of the team's preparation, but Naruto handled it with quiet focus. Naruto scanned the area, his gaze locked onto their target. "Ichi's heading for another checkpoint," he whispered into his earpiece, his voice barely audible. "We'll let him pass and move after his men leave."

From his spot below, Sasuke shifted slightly, eyes narrowing as he followed Naruto's report. "There's a pattern to his route. Every stop he makes is along that old supply route from the war. He's not being random." "Shikamaru, what's the layout ahead?" Naruto asked. Shikamaru, hidden in the shadows of a nearby cliff, already had the landscape mapped out in his mind. "Open plains next, which means we're more exposed. But if Ichi stops near the river, we can use the fog from the water to move undetected." Naruto processed the information Seven didn't rush headlong into battles. They were patient, calculated, and willing to wait for the perfect opportunity. That was what had set them apart from many of the other teams competing in the exam.

As the group of samurai and Commander Ichi approached the river, Naruto extended his hand, activating another fūinjutsu on his wrist. A faint pulse of chakra spread out, activating seals hidden across the area. These were subtle—barely noticeable—but crucial for hiding their movements. Naruto had prepared them meticulously, using a technique taught by the Third Hokage. It wasn't a jutsu but rather a seal designed to cloak their presence, masking their chakra signatures completely. The effect was instantaneous. Their team faded from any possible detection by even the most skilled sensors. "Seals are in place. We're invisible," Naruto muttered as he signaled for Sasuke and Shikamaru to move closer. The seal wasn't just about hiding; it was a calculated tactic to make their target overconfident, unaware of their presence until the exact moment they chose to act.

From their concealed positions, they watched as Ichi and his men stopped by the riverbank. Ichi handed a scroll to one of his subordinates, and the samurai began to scan the area, clearly setting up a perimeter. "They're about to change direction," Sasuke noted, his Sharingan activating to catch the smallest details. "That scroll is the key," Shikamaru added. "I bet it's encoded. We need it." Naruto nodded. "We'll move after they leave. Shikamaru, take point. Sasuke, grab the scroll when they've cleared the area."

True to their strategy, the team waited until Ichi and his entourage had left the immediate area. The samurai guards, thinking they were safe in the open plains, had moved on without detecting any threat. Naruto's seals ensured their safety during this critical moment. Once the coast was clear, Shikamaru moved forward, his eyes sharp as he scanned the ground for traps. "No chakra signatures left behind. We're clear." Sasuke dropped down from his concealed perch and swiftly snatched the scroll from the shrine altar where it had been left. As soon as his hand touched it, he felt a faint pulse of chakra. "The scroll's protected by a seal. Whoever tries to open it will trigger something."

Naruto moved closer, crouching next to Sasuke. "Let me see it." With practiced ease, Naruto activated his fūinjutsu knowledge. His hands moved over the scroll, quickly detecting the nature of the seal protecting it. "This isn't a combat trap. It's meant to destroy the contents if opened incorrectly." Sasuke raised an eyebrow. "So, can you disarm it?" Naruto smirked. "Already done." With a quick release of chakra, Naruto deactivated the protective seal on the scroll, allowing it to be opened without issue. As they unrolled it, a complex string of symbols and numbers appeared—a coded message. Shikamaru leaned in. "This is it. The final part of the exam."

Naruto studied the symbols for a moment. "It's a cipher. Hiruzen taught me this one—it's based on historical routes, much like Ichi's movements. The shrines mark specific points on the map." Shikamaru's eyes flickered with realization. "So we need to figure out the exact path Ichi is taking to crack this code." After carefully studying the scroll and retracing Ichi's path across the map of Tetsu no Kuni, the team worked together to decode the final message. The code revealed the true location of a hidden item that had been tied to Ichi's route. Teams who figured this out would be able to present the correct coordinates at the end of the exam. As they cracked the cipher, Naruto allowed himself a small, satisfied smile. The task wasn't about brute force or speed—it had been about patience, intellect, and precision. Team Seven's approach, led by the calm, strategic Naruto, had allowed them to solve the mystery without raising alarms or engaging in unnecessary conflict. As the sun dipped low over the snow-covered mountains, Naruto turned to his teammates. "We're done here. Let's turn in our results." Sasuke and Shikamaru nodded in agreement. Without needing further discussion, Team Seven disappeared back into the shadows, their mission complete.

Later that day - Tetsu no Kuni - Unknown Location

Minato had barely stepped foot in Tetsu no Kuni when he was summoned without delay. The inkling of hope he'd had to see his son, even for a fleeting moment, faded as he found himself in a dimly lit chamber, seated across from one of the most formidable figures in Hi no Kuni: the Fire Princess, Kimko, known as the Blade of Flames. Although Minato had heard of her remarkable abilities, he hadn't fought alongside her during the war, yet the tales of her power and precision had reached his ears. Kimko was a striking presence, with long, luxurious red hair that matched her piercing crimson eyes, each hinting at her Uzumaki lineage. She was dressed in formal attire, her demeanor poised, her gaze unwavering.

Minato sat in silent anticipation, fingers tapping absently on his knee as he waited for her to speak. The silence weighed heavily, and he could feel the urgency of other matters pressing in on him, each demanding his attention. He suppressed his impatience as she finally broke the silence.

"I'm sorry to bother you like this, Hokage-sama," she began, her voice low but firm. "But this is the first and only time I'll be able to meet with you privately before things truly begin to escalate."

Minato nodded, choosing his words carefully. "There is no need to apologize, Fire Princess—"

Then she cut him off, her gaze steely and unflinching. "My father, the Fire Daimyo, working alongside the man known as Danzo, attempted to assassinate you and your family thirteen years ago."

Silence settled between them like an icy shroud, each second seeming to stretch into eternity as Minato absorbed her words
