Episode 3: Ice Ice Baby
"Previously on Total Drama Revenge of the Island! We learned that although our campers are here to win, they're all losers in one way or another. Really, really big losers."
"It was a psychological butt-kicking that quickly turned literal, then comical, then hysterical!"
"In the end, Dakota got the biggest boot of all. Bye-bye."
"I love my job. Stay tuned as more things blow up! More contestants throw up, and some even try to hook up. Right here, on Total! Drama! Revenge of the Island!"
(Theme Song)
The episode opened on Camp Wawanakwa's lodge and mess hall, the camera panning to the left to show the communal bathroom and, more importantly, a cluster of bushes. The shot zoomed in as one of them began to rustle, and a mouse with a bulging, veiny head scurried out into the open. It paused as the shadow of a bird of prey fell over it, and looked up to see a bald eagle diving towards it with its talons out.
The mutant mouse's eyes glowed green, and a beam shot out of them and hit the approaching eagle. The bird froze in mid-air, then slammed back and forth as though in the grasp of some unseen hand. It was finally tossed off-camera with a squawk, and the mutant mouse scurried onward. It climbed the steps of the main lodge and crawled through a hole in the door, and the scene cut inside.
The camera, situated high on the right wall relative to the entrance, showed the two teams eating and the lodge itself in a state of near disrepair. The floor had become a patchwork of different colors and styles; one of the front windows had been broken and halfheartedly boarded up; there was a gaping hole in the roof over the other front window; a few planks were missing from the far left wall around the fireplace; and a bit of wallpaper was peeling on the partition dividing the kitchen from the rest of the lodge.
The five members of the Toxic Rats sat at the forward table, to the left of the camera, while the six Mutant Maggots sat closer to the kitchen; and although the former team's table had a grimy and tattered table cloth, both teams had only logs to sit on.
Tyler hesitantly stuck a spoonful of the grayish food they'd been served into his mouth, cringed, and spat it out. "No wonder people say that gruel sucks!" he complained.
The perspective inverted to show Noah's face covered in the jock's food. "Sorry Noah," Tyler said from off screen.
Confessional: Noah
Noah started his confessional with a heavy sigh. "I'd say the food tastes like dirt, but honestly, dirt might taste better."
Confessional Ends
The shot cut to Emma and Cameron at the right end of the Maggots' table, their backs to the kitchen. "What is this stuff?" Emma asked, picking a hair out of her spoonful.
Cameron shrugged in response before looking up from his own breakfast, noticing something just off-camera, and nudging Emma with his elbow. "They're competing again," he said quietly, discreetly pointing down the table.
The camera panned to the left to show Shawn and Axel in what looked like an eating contest. Axel's bowl was almost empty and Shawn picked his up and stuffed his face into it. A moment later, he threw down the empty bowl and said "I win!"
"So what?" Axel said irately. "That doesn't prove your eating capabilities are better than mine."
"You're the one who challenged me!" Shawn retorted. "When robots are coming, you ain't got time to chew."
The perspective changed, now showing Lindsay and Mike eating across from Shawn and Axel. "Only three people showed up and the director said it bombed, so yeah. I know a thing or two about bombs," Lindsay talked to Mike.
"I'm a theater expert, so I know that's wrong," Mike said. "When something bombs, that means it went badly."
"Ohh," Lindsay said in realization. "I still think that me and Marcy did a great job in "The Three R's", and you would do good in the play since you're usually acting out those characters like Caesar and Selena."
Lindsay's comment caused Mike to widen his eyes.
Confessional: Mike
"Okay, okay. I admit it, I... I have Dissociative Identity Disorder," Mike told the confessional camera. "I try to control them, but they never listen to me."
Confessional Ends
The footage resumed to the Rats' table as Beardo scooped up a spoonful of gruel with two little antenna poking out of it. He didn't notice, but when he put it in his mouth, he began to choke. Clutching his throat, he got to his feet, and stood away from the table, gagging.
"Don't worry, I'll save you!" Dawn called out, rushing up behind Beardo and pumping his stomach repeatedly. The force was enough to make him spit out whatever he was choking on. A little beetle flew out among bits of gruel, and bounced onto the floor.
As Dawn picked up the beetle, Beardo said "Phew! Thanks for the save there, Dawn."
The rest of his team stared at him in shock. "Did you just-?" Alejandro stammered, his eyes wide.
"You can talk?!" Tyler exclaimed, blown away by the revelation.
"Of course I can," Beardo replied in a calm tone. "I have to thank someone who saved my life, you know?"
Dawn seemingly paid no attention to his words, instead paying attention to the beetle that he had coughed up.
"You're safe now, little one," she cooed to the insect, soothingly running her finger across its back until it fell asleep.
"I could've eaten that?!" Noah stared at his bowl, and shoved it away with a grimace. "Suddenly, all my appetite has gone away."
The shot cut back to Cameron, who was looking down to the bulbous-headed mouse now sitting on their own table. "Look! A cute little Apodemus sylvaticus!" he pointed out. Without warning, the mouse's eyes began to glow green again, and to the horror of the bubble boy, it levitated into the air.
The scene moved outside the lodge as crashes and screams of terror filled the air. All the campers except Mike fled out the front door and a refrigerator was flung out after them. They paused to catch their breath, and it was then that Mike was finally tossed out to them with a scream of his own.
The whine of the intercom turning on caught their attention, and the camera cut to an upward shot of the loudspeaker. "Attention, players!" Chris announced. "Please head to the looming tragedy that is Mount Looming Tragedy!" The shot switched to a tall, craggy spire of rock in the distance, it's broad and flat peak seen only in silhouette thanks to a ring of ominous clouds. "Your race begins, NOW!"
He punctuated his broadcast with his blowhorn, and Axel immediately turned to her teammates. "Maggots move!" she declared, and all eleven campers raced off.
A flash ahead showed the two teams arriving at the base of the mountain, all of them out of breath.
"Did we win?" Tyler panted, doubled over with his hands on his knees.
Cameron arrived last just then, clutching his stomach and groaning. He walked over to a bush, fell to his knees, and threw up.
"I don't even think you'd survive in the wilderness for a second," Axel told the bubble boy as he stood back up and wiped the bile from his lips.
A sudden whistle interrupted any reply that may have come, drawing the campers' attention to the side. "Okay, mutant food," Chris greeted, standing with Chef next to a muddy jeep, "on with the challenge! Part one is an uphill battle," he explained, the shot moving to and upward pan of the rocky tower before them – it was covered with barbed wire, toxic waste barrels, and what looked like pipes of some kind. "You have to climb all the way up to that cliff," Chris explained, the camera coming to a rest at the broad, flat rock that topped the mountain; a dead tree and another toxic waste barrel were the only things to be seen on top. "First team to reach the top gets an advantage in part two."
"You can climb with your hands," the host continued as the shot returned to him, "or use whatever you find in the pile." The camera cut to a large mound of junk – appliances, furniture, pipes, tires, and other abandoned pieces of scrap. "But don't worry," Chris added, growing more and more excited. "This junkyard doesn't have a dog. It has a giant mutant beetle!"
On cue, a gigantic beetle similar to the one Beardo had found in his gruel popped out of the junk pile and hissed at the humans; Mike, Axel, Lindsay, Dawn, and Beardo all gasped in shock.
"Big guy's a bit of a hoarder," Chris laughed. "His estate is full of useful crud," the beetle was shown picking up a paintball gun and a sewing machine from the pile and casually tossing them away, "aaaand disgusting crud." The beetle picked out a toilet next, and threw it at the humans with a hissing roar; Mike, Axel, Lindsay, Dawn, and Beardo quickly ducked, and it crashed to the ground behind them. "That is, if you can get near it," Chris told them with an impish smile. He turned towards the mountain and gave a thumbs-up, and Chef – now on top of the cliff – blew on an alphorn, shaking the area.
"It is on!" Chris declared.
"Pick it up Maggots!" Axel said, once again at the head of the pack as the campers started running.
The Maggots' logo appeared in the corner as Cameron was shown struggling to pull himself up to a ledge. "Shirt so heavy," he whimpered, dropping down a little. "Socks weighing me down!" He fell off completely, and the shot zoomed out to reveal that the ledge he'd tried to climb embarrassingly close to the ground.
"Don't give up Curtis," Lindsay called out to him while hanging from a dead tree that was jutting out of the rock. "You can do it!" The branch broke and she started to fall with a scream, until a tanned hand pulled her up to a higher ledge.
The camera panned up to show that Mike had saved her. "Thank you," she said.
"Anytime," Mike replied. The two looked into each other's eyes and smiled.
"Don't get distracted!" Axel yelled as the shot cut to her and Emma climbing the mountain. "I taught myself how to climb walls when I was just a baby," she bragged to the prep girl.
"Okay?" Emma said as the two climbed up a few more steps. "I don't get why that's more important than trying to not get knocked off."
"Listen to me when I say this," Axel said. "Your feats have to be known by everyone so that they know who's on top of the clan, i.e. me."
"That doesn't sound humble, but okay," Emma muttered.
The shot cut to Alejandro climbing another part of the mountain. He looked back down – the camera panned down to show Beardo struggling a few steps behind. "Amigo, are you alright down there?" Alejandro asked.
"I'm fine," Beardo wheezed, climbing up to another ledge. "I'm just pacing myself so I don't use up all my stamina."
Alejandro frowned at this, but returned to smiling. "Take as much time as you need."
The shot cut next to Dawn, still on the ground looking at the cliff uncertainly. "And will the lady be participating?" Chris asked in a mocking prim tone as he walked over.
"Yes," Dawn replied. "But first, I would like to help that poor beetle feel less distressed."
The camera panned over to the right, where Tyler was frowning as he looked off further to the right.
"And I'm coming back down," Noah slid to the ground with a deadpan expression. "Practice doesn't make perfect, Tyler."
"I was trying to prep you up," Tyler admitted.
"I think it might be time for me to actually use my knowledge here," Noah told him.
"Okay then," Tyler nodded. "As long as it doesn't involve climbing."
The scene cut back to Beardo and Alejandro, the arch villain climbing on ahead while the beatboxer lingered at a ledge with a few small, loose stones on it. He misstepped as he climbed, and accidentally kicked them off – they tumbled down the mountainside, catching Lindsay and Mike and knocking them off. The two crashed into Cameron, who was making his own slow progress up the mountain, and all three landed on the ground in a heap.
"Uh oh," Beardo said in shock and guilt as he watched the scene unfold.
"Apologize after we win!" Alejandro called out to him, and Beardo continued his climb.
Back down at the bottom, Dawn ran past the non-climbing Maggots - Cameron, Lindsay, Mike, and Shawn. She stopped at the ones that had fallen, who had still not made any move to get up.
"Are you all okay?" Dawn asked.
"We're fine," Shawn said as he came over. "Thanks for asking."
Dawn then joined up with Tyler and Noah, who were currently crouched behind a large rock near the junk pile.
"What are you two doing?" Dawn asked.
"We're waiting for an opportunity to sneak past the beetle guy and get stuff from that pile," Tyler whispered.
"Exactly what he said," Noah dryly said, and the camera briefly panned over to show the mutant perched on its pile. It clacked its pincers and turned around, and the camera panned back to the three.
"It's go time, team!" Tyler announced, standing up. "Charge!"
He was the only one to do so, and by the time he'd gotten to the edge of the pile, the noise of his approach had gotten the beetle's attention and caused it to turn back around.
"So much for stealth," Noah quipped as he and Dawn watched on.
"Don't make me use this, beetle!" Tyler commanded, absentmindedly grabbing a recorder from the pile and brandishing it like a weapon.
It breathed a jet of fire at him, causing him to yelp and flee.
"Seriously?!" Noah exclaimed in disbelief as Tyler rejoined him and Dawn. "I mean, seriously?! It breathes fire?!"
"We must distract his tortured soul!" Dawn declared.
Tyler looked down at the recorder in his hands. "Maybe music can calm this dude down," he said, the challenge music fading out as he put the instrument to his lips and started to play.
It wasn't very good, and the beetle quickly made its displeasure known by breathing out another jet of fire, then curling up into a ball and rolling towards the three Rats as the intense challenge music resumed. Tyler stopped playing as he, Dawn, and Noah scattered, with the balled-up beetle only following one of them.
"I blame the recorder for this!" Tyler exclaimed as he ran from the mutant, Noah and Dawn watching from the junk pile.
Mike, Lindsay, and Cameron were shown woozily getting back to their feet and looking over at their opponents alongside Shawn. "We have to find something!" Dawn told Noah as the two frantically sifted through the junk pile.
"Hey," Shawn told his teammates, "I think they have the right idea."
"You really think there's something in there that can help us?" Lindsay said, she and the other two following after as their theorist teammate began to walk off to the right. The shot cut to the curled-up guard beetle bouncing up and down on a face-down Tyler, then the camera panned left to show Dawn and Noah pushing a waste barrel away from the pile and the Maggots running up to it.
"It's worth a shot," Shawn told his teammate as they began to search as well, quickly tossing aside a recorder.
The shot cut to the top of the mountain, where Chef was waiting with several large blocks of ice. Alejandro was almost there, causing Chef to scowl – though he brightened up when his walkie talkie beeped. "You know what to do," Chris told him. "Ice 'em."
"Por fin!" Alejandro said confidently. "It appears we're going to win for once!" The shot cut up to Chef, listening to the latino's climbing grunts as he held out an ice block with a vicious grin. He let it fall, and Alejandro looked up just in time to see it hit him. It knocked him off the cliff face, and he fell and knocked Beardo off as well. The two fell past Axel, who watched in shock as they landed with a pained thud and groan.
She scowled upwards, and Chef was shown throwing more and more ice blocks down towards her. She dodged each one in turn. "You should have made an example out of me first!" she yelled angrily up at the man.
Chef glared in contempt, then turned his gaze to the side – Emma had just grabbed on to a thick pipe jutting out of the rock, and was pulling herself up from it to the next small ledge. She almost made it, too, but another ice block crashed down on the ledge just as she was about to grab it, forcing her to recoil with a yelp of fear.
Confessional: Axel
"That prep girl's got some skills," Axel remarked. "And since she didn't try to wimp out of this challenge like the last one, I could use her as an alliance member until the teams merge."
Confessional Ends
Lindsay, Mike, and Cameron all crowded around Shawn and watched him wind a long rope with a grappling hook attached to it around a short wooden rod with several other pieces of wood scattered around him.
"Can you get us all back up top with whatever it is you're building, Stan?" Lindsay asked warily.
"I think so," Shawn answered, "but I'm still gonna need a few more parts from the pile."
The shot cut to Dawn and Noah by the toxic waste barrel they'd grabbed as well as a ramshackle old couch and several other bits and bobs, the snarker busy scratching calculations into the dirt. "What's Noah working on?" Alejandro asked as he and Beardo arrived on the scene.
"A rocket, basically," Noah answered, not looking up from his equations.
"But we need to get Tyler away from the beetle," Dawn said.
Beardo and Alejandro looked up and to the side, where their teammate had been caught in a headlock by the guard mutant and was being punched in the face over and over by a boxing glove-wearing leg. "I never thought a beetle would mess me up!" Tyler called out in pain.
"Hmm," Dawn said, the shot cutting back to her close-up as she thought. Her eyes widened in realization and she gasped and held out the beetle that Beardo had choked on earlier.
"Wait! Look! Is this why you're so distraught?" she asked as the younger beetle hissed and screeched. This attracted the attention of the larger one, who promptly dropped Tyler. He hit the ground with a groan.
The smaller beetle jumped from Dawn's hand and scurried over to its parent, who picked it up with its forelegs, looked at it lovingly, and gave it a quick tap on the back so that it burped out a small jet of flame. Satisfied, the guard beetle scurried away and disappeared behind its horde.
"That was beautiful," Dawn said from in front of the pile, unaware of Cameron, Lindsay, and Mike hurriedly grabbing things from it behind her.
"I can taste my spine somehow!" Tyler said from off-screen.
The shot cut to a close-up of what looked like a makeshift grappling gun with the inner coil of rope still exposed. The Maggots' logo appeared in the top right corner of the screen as several pieces of metal, mostly springs, were dropped down around the contraption.
"Here you go," Cameron said, the shot zooming out to show him, Mike, and Lindsay standing around Shawn. "Is this what you needed?"
"Yep," Shawn smiled, picking up one of the springs and testing it with his fingers. "This is perfect."
"Cool," Mike said nervously, "but can you put it together in time?"
"I think the Rats are almost done," Lindsay added, the shot briefly cutting to show Alejandro and Beardo lifting the old couch.
Shawn shrugged. The camera focused on his face as he started grabbing pieces just out-of-sight, and the footage quickly cycled between a few other shots – the Rats getting the couch into place on top of the waste barrel; Lindsay, Mike, and Cameron's nervous looks; and finally Shawn again who grinned.
"Finished!" he announced, holding up his finished, and rather bulky, grappling gun. "It's my very own grappling hook," he added, aiming the gun up at the top of the cliff and firing. The recoil was enough to knock him to the ground, but he quickly recovered and grabbed the gun. "It's got a bit of a kickback," he explained with a chuckle.
The shot briefly cut to the top of the mountain, where Axel had just about finished her climb. The grappling hook suddenly shot past, startling her.
"Okay," Shawn said as the shot cut back to the Maggots on the ground, the gun's rope still moving, "now grab on before it starts retracting."
"Wha?" Lindsay said in confusion before the grappling rope suddenly became taut. Shawn grabbed Lindsay's arm, Mike and Cameron each grabbed Shawn just before the gun's box started to whir, and with a startled scream, the four of them were pulled into the air at high speed.
They zoomed past Axel, and the camera zoomed in on the survivalist as she yelped and shifted to the side to dodge. "Hey, you could've hit me!" she called out in annoyance.
They continued to fly upward and their momentum shot them up into the air, the grappling hook becoming unhooked from a rock on the mountaintop. Chef, who had been about to throw another ice block down, gaped in shock just before the four Maggots landed on him.
"Looks like we made it," Shawn said weakly to the teammates piled on top of him, who groaned out a cheer.
The camera quick-panned back down to the Rats. Several bottles and bags and electronic bits had been tied to the waste barrel, with two long wires leading out from them.
"We should be ready to launch," Noah said as he climbed onto the couch and grabbed the uninsulated ends of the two wires.
The camera cut to Tyler as he joined the other three Rats. "Hopefully this works," Tyler said as they walked off screen. The shot cut to the couch - Noah in the middle of it as Dawn and Beardo sat on either side of him, Tyler sitting on the back, and Alejandro sitting on the arm next to Beardo.
"Here goes!" Noah said as he touched the two wires together. The whole apparatus shook for a second, then the couch took off quite like a rocket – suddenly, and with a bit of fire coming out of the bottom.
The five teens screamed, and their couch soon caught up to a wide-eyed Emma...who quickly turned around and grabbed onto it as it passed. It reached the top soon afterward with all six teens screaming for their lives, rocketing past the edge of the cliff.
Axel reached to top and hauled herself up. "About time!" she cheered... just before the couch crashed down on top of her, Emma nowhere to be seen.
"You did it Noah," Dawn said happily. "We won the challenge!"
It was then that Emma finally landed on the mountain with a thud, the five Rats looking at her in shock.
Confessional: Emma
"What I did was dumb and stupid, but I thought it'd give us the win," Emma confessed.
Confessional Ends
Chris arrived just as Axel pulled herself out from under the couch. The host was hovering in the air a few yards away with his jetpack, and sporting a wide grin.
"And thanks to Noah, the winners are the Toxic Rats!" he announced, earning a triumphant cheer from the five winners and a groan from the losers.
"We lost?!" Axel raged. "This is your fault Emma!"
"My fault?!" Emma shot at her. "Like I could've known that Noah would build a rocket couch! And don't get mad at me for something that everybody agreed to last challenge."
Axel growled angrily, but Cameron quickly put herself between the two. "Uh, fighting isn't going to help us!" he told them.
Before any of them could react, Chris landed between them and the camera. "Will the Maggots keep it together?" he asked. "Or will they all go tumbling down? Find out, after the break."
(Commercial Break)
The episode resumed on a shot of a large patch of ice and snow, a snow machine blowing in the background next to a snowy slope. The camera panned left onto the two shivering teams, with Alejandro and Lindsay clinging to their respective team flags.
"Greetings, ice teens!" Chris greeted as he and Chef rode up on the back of a snowmobile wearing thick parkas. "Cold enough for you?" He chuckled as the shot cut in closer and panned back across the freezing campers, Chris adding "I'll take that as a yes," when it reached the end of the line.
"Time for part two of today's challenge!" the host announced. "'Capture the Snow Fort.' To win, you either have to demo the enemy's fort," he directed their attention to his left, the shot cutting over to a rather poorly constructed snow castle, "or capture their flag and bring it back to your own fort." He directed their attention in the opposite direction, to a much nicer-looking snow fortress. "Rats won the first part, so they get first dibs on the forts," Chris explained.
"The castle looks nicer," Noah opened as the camera zoomed in on the Rats, four of them looking at each other while Alejandro continued to look over them from one fort to the other.
"What do you think, Al?" Tyler asked the team's leader, who was now looking firmly in the direction of the better-looking fort.
"Alejandro, and even if there's something bad inside, the outer walls still look way more stable," Alejandro said. "We'll take the castle," he announced, dashing off to the right without further discussion and forcing his shivering teammates to follow nervously.
A clock wipe transitioned the scene to inside the Rats' new fort, a pleasant tune playing as it was shown to be just as nice-looking on the inside, if rather bare. Aside from the campers and their flag, all that was inside was a pile of snowballs and a shovel stuck into the ground.
"Cool fort!" Tyler said to his smiling teammates in amazement while Beardo made a party horn sound.
Confessional: Alejandro
"I'm not one to pass up any advantage that this team may receive," Alejandro told the outhouse camera. "We need all the help we can get."
Confessional Ends
The scene cut to the other fort, which was just as ugly on the inside as it was out. It was as bare otherwise as the Rats' castle, though, with only a shovel and pile of snowballs.
"Well, this is a letdown!" Shawn said dryly as he and his teammates looked around in disappointment.
"That doesn't mean we're not gonna try our hardest," Axel enforced.
"On the plus side, at least we're warm in here," Lindsay added.
"Listen up, players," Chris called over a megaphone as the scene cut to Chef carrying a lawn chair past a blazing fire pit. The host was already seated in a chair of his own, and his assistant soon joined him. "Here's how it works! Use the shovel in each fort to fire your collection of Mystery Snowballs," the eyes of the five Rats immediately turned to their imbedded shovel, and Noah tentatively reached out and touched the handle, "which you can fire at each other's forts."
"Interesting," Noah said to himself as he drew the shovel's handle back an inch and released it with a twang.
"Why are they called Mystery Balls?" Lindsay called out from the Maggots' shack while Axel tested how stable their shovel was.
"Because they all inflict major damage!" Chris answered. "Thanks to the secret weapon hidden inside each ball." The Maggots were shown looking at their pile of snowballs, the shot zooming in as one of them made an odd noise and shook. "Some, will damage you," the host added, "so choose wisely."
"Each team has to elect a Captain to command, and conquer," Chris continued. "Starting...now!"
"Listen up Maggots! I'm Team Captain," Axel immediately said back at the Maggots' base. "Any objections?"
"Uh, yeah," Emma said with a scowl.
"You don't have the best track record," Mike added shortly after.
"I'd feel better if Shawn was in charge," Cameron finished.
Confessional: Axel
"I would, and should, argue back, but this could be a good way to get a few votes on my side," Axel considered.
Confessional Ends
"I may regret this, but have it your way," Axel conceded to everyone's shock. "What's the plan Shawn?"
"Well," Shawn said, "I was thinking that maybe we should have some of the more strategic members stay back here in case we need to fight off the Rats and the rest to go after the flag. Also," he smiled, "we could use some of Mike's acting skills from the last challenge."
The camera zoomed in on Axel's impatient face. "And the plan is?" she asked.
"Me, Lindsay, and Emma will go try and take their flag," Shawn declared. "Axel, Cameron, and Mike, you guys will hold them off and try to hit their fort with the mystery balls."
Axel raised an eyebrow and smirked. "Not a bad idea," she said. "Let's do that then."
"Okay, let's go Maggots," Shawn said as he and Emma ran off out of the shack, leaving Lindsay, Axel, Cameron, and Mike behind.
"Be careful out there," Mike said with a smile.
"Thanks," Lindsay said with a smile of her own. "Don't let Anna boss you around too much," she added and jogged out of the fort.
Confessional: Lindsay
"Okay, I have a crush on Mike," Lindsay announced. "I know he's not an athlete or a model, but he is super cute and funny." She sighed. "I sometimes say the wrong thing when I'm around my friends, but it's worse whenever I'm around my crushes at times."
Confessional Ends
"I'm Team Captain," Alejandro declared as the footage cut to him and the Rats. "Noah, Dawn, and I will stay back and guard the fort. Beardo and Tyler, capture their flag."
"A challenge that doesn't require the use of my legs? How fortunate," Noah said with a grin.
"Aaand, GO!" Chris suddenly called from off-screen.
"Time to rock this!" Tyler cheered.
The scene flashed outside as Tyler and Beardo ran out on to the ice. "Let's book it!" Beardo called as he ran ahead.
"Those Maggots are going down!" Tyler declared.
The shot cut up to the bright and sizzling sun, then down to Chef and Chris – who had changed back into their normal clothing, with the addition of a straw hat for Chef. Both were drinking some kind of coconut drink. "Hurry up," Chris warned the unseen campers. "My ice is melting! And your forts will too if the sun gets much higher!"
"You can count on it!" Tyler declared as the shot cut back to him and Beardo racing along the ice.
"Wait," Beardo said, "we need a-whoaaah!" He suddenly slipped on the ice and quickly grabbed Tyler's arm for balance, but only succeeded in knocking the jock off-balance as well; the two teens continued to slide forward on their butts.
The camera quick-panned back to the snow castle, where Alejandro was watching out of the misshapen window-like entrance, one eyebrow raised as he watched his teammates. "How silly," he snorted, then turned around and headed back into the center of the fort.
The scene cut to Shawn racing across the ice at top speed, Emma and Lindsay following a little ways behind him. He blew past Beardo and Tyler, the two Rats still sliding forward on their butts, and Emma and Lindsay soon ran by them as well.
"How are you feeling right now, Lindsay?" Emma focused her attention on Lindsay.
"If I'm being honest, Emma, I would rather stay back and defend the fort," Lindsay told Emma. "My boots aren't made for ice."
The ice beneath them began to crack, and soon broke entirely, plunging the two Maggots into frigid water. They promptly bobbed back to the surface, still in their poses and frozen in a block of ice.
Chef started cackling hysterically, and the shot cut back to him and Chris watching from the sidelines. "Forgot to tell you!" the host called out. "No Man's Land is more like No Man's Water!"
"What?!" Shawn said in shock, looking back and sliding to a stop. "I'll come back for them after I get the flag!" he said, keeping forward and ignoring his frozen teammates. A sudden snowball flew over his head and crashed off-screen.
"You missed!" Alejandro called back into the Rats' fort as the shot cut to him looking out its window.
The camera cut back to the inside of the castle, where Dawn and Noah were debating.
"I'm not listening to some dumb snowball," Noah argued. "Its purpose is to be chucked."
"But it's full of negative energy," Dawn replied with concern.
"Lady, so am I," Noah held up a snowball, until it blew up in his face, making him cough for a while.
Dawn placed a hand on Noah's shoulder. "You weren't tended to enough as a child," she sympathized, causing the boy to stare weirdly at her.
Confessional: Noah
"Dawn's not the most normal person around, but she somehow manages to creep me out still," Noah noted.
Confessional Ends
The shot cut back to Tyler and Beardo as they finally stopped sliding and quickly scrambled back onto their feet. "That was a slip up," Tyler said. "Let's do this for real!" he declared as he ran off again, Beardo following behind.
"We need to aim higher!" Axel called out as the shot returned to the Maggots' shack, the survivalist looking out their front gate. "With Lindsay and Emma frozen, we have to hit their castle or we'll lose!"
"Working on it," Cameron said as the camera panned to him bending the shovel back as Mike loaded a snowball into the loop of the handle. The bubble boy let it go, and the snowball was launched into the air with a twang. The camera followed it over the shack wall, then zoomed out to show it flying over No Man's Land – Beardo and Tyler still racing towards the Maggots' base; Shawn racing toward the Rats' base; and Emma and Lindsay still frozen. The snowball struck a part of the Rat castle, causing part of it to crumble down.
"You hit it!" Mike announced with cheer from the Maggots' base.
"Thanks," Cameron told him with a smile. "We just have to keep them coming!"
"On it!" Axel said, picking up another snowball off their pile.
The shot cut back to the Rats again, all three working together to load a particularly large snowball onto their shovel before an even bigger one landed on the snow next to them...and burst open to reveal the junkyard guard beetle.
"Whoa there," Noah told the beetle, "you don't want to hurt the one who babysat your kid, right?" The camera focused on Dawn, who smiled politely and waved at the beetle.
The larger one paused, and its tiny child hopped out onto its head and waved back at Dawn as a sweet tune played.
"We're not your enemies," Noah told it quickly. "They are!" The scene cut back outside as he pointed out the window towards the Maggots' base, and the angry beetle hopped out next to him and scurried back along the ice.
"I didn't know you were a beetle whisperer," Dawn told her teammate.
"Did I want that thing to burn us to a crisp? No," Noah said and the two moved back inside.
"Okay Rats," Alejandro told Noah and Dawn, "time to get launching again." The bookworm and moonchild nodded and complied, both readying another snowball while Alejandro went back to his lookout spot.
A flash moved the camera to Tyler and Beardo rather close to the Maggots' shack... and the puddle of water holding two of its frozen members. Tyler was, as usual, quite a bit ahead of his teammate and running with his eyes closed and his face in a grin. As such, he didn't realize what he was running into until it was too late - he fell into the frigid water himself, and was encased in ice in between Lindsay and Emma.
Beardo made a waa waa sound effect as he saw the predicament his teammate was in.
The scene cut back to Shawn on his way to the Rat base only for the giant guard beetle to scuttle up to him.
"No...," he gasped, quickly holding his arms out to stop it from running him down. The conspiracy nut slid back a few feet as he slowed it to a stop, then gasped again as the beetle stood on its hind legs with a menacing hiss. "Out of the way!" he said, his frustration quickly turning to fear as he ducked and rolled out of the way of a jet of fire.
The beetle screeched and turned towards Shawn, unleashing quick jets of fire at his feet. "I'm not turning into a crisp today!" he cried out fearfully as he ran to the Maggots' shack with the beetle, quite literally, hot on his feet.
The scene flashed back to the Maggots' base and Beardo suddenly ran in crying out a gorilla growl, knocking over Axel who had been keeping watch just inside the entrance.
"Quick, guard the flag!" Axel called back to her teammates before scrambling to her feet as well.
Cameron and Mike managed to get in front of the flag before Beardo reached them, but Beardo simply lifted the two by their clothes and tossed them out of the way and grabbed the Maggots' flag.
"No!" Axel cried out, running towards the afro boy to intercept, but tripped and fell on the ice. She gasped in pain as she hit the ground, and Beardo left the fort.
The footage skipped ahead to show Beardo racing along the ice before looking in confusion. The camera panned ahead of him to Shawn, who had gotten the giant to chase him all the way to the Maggots' base - the beetle was still unleashing its fire at the theorist and was now dangerously close to the shack. Beardo, in his newfound panic, executed a gun click sound effect and ran away in a flash.
"NO!" Axel cried out as she saw the beetle and Shawn, the camera showing the flame hit the edge of the shack and instantly turn it into a puddle with a flash.
"We've won!" Alejandro cheered as Beardo returned to the team with the flag in hand.
"Yes we did," Beardo smiled and shook hands with Alejandro.
The shot cut to the inside of the castle as Dawn and Noah high-fived.
"Your beetle friend did wonders for us," Noah complimented Dawn.
"HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?!" Axel raged, and the camera cut to Mike and Cameron giving displeased looks to a sheepish Shawn.
"Rats win!" Chris declared as he and Chef arrived outside, both back in their winter wear and Chef holding a tray of several steaming mugs. The four unfrozen winning campers crowded around Chris with smiles on their faces.
"And here's your reward," the host added, the tray in his smiling assistant's hands. "McLean Brand Hot Chocolate", he said. "Scald your senses with chocolatey goodness."
The Rats cheered, and the shot cut to the three frozen campers that had melted in all the excitement. "What happened?" Lindsay said in a daze.
"Did we win?" Emma added a moment later.
"Nope, but my team did," Tyler answered.
Confessional: Beardo
"I can't believe I scored us our first challenge win of the season," Beardo said happily. "I owe part of the credit to the fire breathing beetle, but I did bring the flag back."
Confessional: Axel
"We've just experienced our first loss today," Axel confessed bitterly. "And though it gives me reason to get Shawn eliminated, I'm still not a fan."
Confessional: Mike
"Why didn't Shawn try to use that beetle to melt the Rats' castle?" Mike wondered. "Thankfully, none of my personalities popped out today, but figuring out who's leaving today is going to be hard."
Confessionals End
The footage skipped ahead again, now showing dusk over four of the six Maggots relaxing on the steps of their cabin, Emma and Lindsay with blankets around their shoulders and Axel standing in front of them.
"I'm telling you," Axel said. "Shawn should be the one that leaves tonight."
"He was the one that got our fort melted," Cameron pointed out.
"Not only that, but he's the most secretive out of all of us," Axel continued. "With how he always sleeps in trees and doesn't talk to any of us outside of challenges, he may be plotting against us."
"I hadn't even thought of that," Lindsay gasped.
"That's why we're voting for him," Axel declared. "There's no way to argue against this."
Confessional: Emma
"Even though Axel brings up good points about Shawn, I'd rather vote out the girl who's been a massive cow towards me than the guy who's resourceful and helpful," Emma told the camera.
Confessional Ends
The scene cut to a shot of the island at night, the camera zooming in then cutting to the six Mutant Maggots at the campfire pit – Axel, Mike, and Cameron in the front row; Shawn, Lindsay, and Emma in the back.
"Team Maggot, welcome to your first elimination ceremony," Chris began as Chef walked up in his hazmat suit carrying the box containing the Toxic Marshmallow.
"The following players are safe," Chris said, holding up the first marshmallow from his own platter as a deep note struck. "Emma."
The preppy girl caught her prize with a smile.
"Cameron." The bubble boy raised his head and caught his marshmallow happily.
"Lindsay," the host continued, the dumb blonde clapping in delight before getting hit in the forehead with her treat.
"And Mike," Chris finished, the theater boy seeming almost shocked as he caught his marshmallow in open hands.
"Which leaves, Axel and Shawn," Chris announced, the shot pulling back to show the conspiracy nut gulping nervously and the survivalist sitting up straighter.
A sudden cry rang out, and everybody looked to their right to see Dakota diving towards them on a hang glider while wearing a pink helmet. She crashed straight into Chris, knocking the host to the ground.
Sitting on Chris's belly, Dakota took off her helmet and smiled at the host lying on the floor. "Hey Chris!" the heiress greeted.
"Dakota?" Chris spoke up as he pushed the girl off of him. "You're no longer competing. Remember?"
"I don't care about the money. Like I need it," Dakota said as she stood up and unhooked her hang gliding harness. "I just want, um, close up please." The camera zoomed in on her. "Thank you. I just want camera time. People need to see more of my sparkly adorableness if I'm gonna get my spin-off reality series." She suddenly winced as she was pulled out of the camera frame.
"You know how you flew off into the sky last episode?" Chris reminded her as Chef captured her with a metallic trap stick. "That means you're done. Forever!"
"No, please! I'll do anything," Dakota pleaded.
"Listen, princess. This is my show," Chris retorted until his cell phone rang. He answered it and after listening for a moment, he smiled at the girl. "It's your daddy." Dakota smiled as Chris listened to her father on the other end of the call. "Hello, Mr. Milton. How much money?" Ending the call, he gave his attention to Dakota. "You're back!"
"Yes! Thanks, Daddy!" Dakota looked at the camera.
"As an intern," Chris finished.
"An intern?" Dakota whined, and Chef took her away. "Noooo!"
After seeing her gone, Chris returned back to the ceremony. "And... the toxic marshmallow goes to..." he said with an impish smile, pausing for effect. The camera alternated between close-ups of Shawn and Axel, the latter still looking sterner than usual, until finally...
"Shawn."
Shawn, feeling disappointed, got up and started to trudge to the exit. "Looks like you can continue avoiding the supernatural back home!" Chris commented happily.
Shawn stopped, looked back at the faces of his former teammates, and opened his mouth. "I didn't mean to mess up the challenge for you guys. Though leaving now before a ghost haunts me would be suitable."
Shawn then walked off, only for Chris to grab his arm and stop him. "Oh, I guess I forgot the Marshmallow."
Chris and Chef looked at one another and shared a mischievous smile, and the cook walked forward with his strongbox still shut tight. He presented it to Shawn, who cringed in anticipation as it was slowly opened...revealing nothing inside.
"What?" Shawn said in confusion.
"Hah!" Chris laughed. "You see, tonight's eliminated Maggot is tomorrow's new Rat."
"So, I'm not taking the Hurl of Shame?" Shawn asked.
"Nope," Chris answered with a smug grin. "From now on, you and the people who just voted you out will be on opposing teams," the host added.
"Awesome," Shawn nodded confidently. "My second chance at winning the money for my bunker is on!"
"Whatever," Chris said, rolling his eyes. "Kinda disappointing no one's going for a catapult ride, though." He looked over at Chef, who'd returned to his side and taken off his protective helmet.
The shot cut to Chris standing by the Hurl of Shame, Chef sitting nervously in the catapult's bucket, an inflatable duck-shaped inner tube around his waist.
"Somebody needs to get hurled tonight," Chris explained as he walked over to the catapult's lever. "Plus, I'm giving you a flotation device so you can swim back."
The duck-shaped float suddenly deflated, startling the cook. Chef tried to say something, but was interrupted by Chris pulling the lever and launching him screaming into the night sky.
Chris sighed. "It just isn't the same," he remarked before taking a deep breath and turning to face the camera. "Come back for more mutants, mayhem, and manipulation," he said excitedly, "next time, on Total! Drama! Revenge, of the Island!"
(Roll the Credits)
Staci - 13th
Dakota - 12th
Mutant Maggots: Axel, Cameron, Emma, Lindsay, Mike
Toxic Rats: Alejandro, Beardo, Dawn, Noah, Shawn, Tyler
Author's Note: Yep, no elimination today. We decided to move the team swap an episode early because we wanted to give more time to the eleven remaining contestants. Also we had Shawn run away from the beetle because he's still paranoid and it justified us having him swap teams.
