TW: Crap gets real here, as there are some dark themes ahead. You've been warned.
Azula opened the door to see...
Her eyes widened in shock as she looked on in morbid curiosity...
First and foremost, her attention went to some sort of...
...What the...?
…Some sort of...abomination?
It was...a walking...platform?
Whatever it was, it looked...fleshy.
Actually...it looked fleshy and moldy. But the thing about this...creature? Either way, the thing about this monstrosity is that a platform was inside its body. Like it was part of it. A platform was jutting through the skin, stretching the skin like it was partially in the body, while under the platform, the middle part of it had a pair of arms jutting out, and a pair of legs were on the bottom end of it.
On this 'platform' though, was some sort of...blob. But upon looking closer, it had a shape...of a person...melded into...another person?
It looked...honestly disgusting...
Azula doesn't even know what she was looking at.
But then she heard Anjera's voice.
"DADDY! PLEASE, DON'T!" she yelled.
The Fire Princess turned her attention to Anjera, who was sitting on the ground against a wall...made of...skin?
She made a quick survey of the room she was in, which the shape of the room was a square, and everything around the room was covered in some kind of flesh-colored material. She also made out some disturbing details...
The upper parts of the room's four walls...have holes lined up on each wall...and there were metal pistons, from what Azula can see, pumping into these holes...
...Upon learning what happened with Anjera, her eyes widened in horror.
Oh...Oh Spirits...
...The implications were there.
And she felt sick just thinking about it.
What...What kind of place is this!?
"NO, DADDY, NO!" Anjera screamed, turning her head away and shielding herself with her arms, her right hand holding a kitchen knife, Azula noticed. Her face expressed a whole bundle of emotions; distress, fear, and disgust, all rolled up in a grimace.
Anjera!
Then, something changed in Azula.
It was a feeling of...absolute fear...
But it wasn't fear for herself...the fear was directed at Anjera.
After hearing what the older teenager went through...and seeing this thing that Anjera identifies as her father...she didn't even know what it was about to do, but...
Despite all the things that she had done, how many lives she ruined, and how her father's influence molded her to only serve herself...
For once in her life, she wanted to help Anjera. She wanted to stop whatever is going to happen to her. She has the urge of wanting to try and save this girl!
But why...?
Why?! What am I thinking!? I can't let her suffer through this! She doesn't deserve it! Whatever this thing is, she thinks it's her father, and...!
"HEY! UGLY!" Azula hollered out.
The monster turned to its left to 'look' Azula.
Anjera also lowered her arms to look at the voice that came to her rescue, her expression that of shock.
When the monster turned to cast its 'glare' on it, there was one other detail that disturbed Azula. The tip of the blob, the 'head' of this abomination, had an opening...and moved that opening like it was a mouth.
Azula grimaced at it but held strong as she got into a battle stance.
The monster (Abstract Daddy) then hobbled over to the Fire Princess, ready to inflict harm on her.
But this creature was sorely mistaken.
It was Azula who was going to do harm.
"A-Azula!?" Anjera shouted in surprise.
"Hold on, Anjera! I'll burn this freak of nature!" Azula said in a rage.
The Abstract Daddy then hobbled faster, getting closer to the Fire Princess, with its arms swinging to get her.
"Yeah, you hear me, you sick ugly bastard! You won't harm her again!" Azula then emitted blue lightning onto her hands and shoots the electricity at the monster, striking it on its 'belly'.
It made an unnatural groan as the shock from the lightning shook it for a moment, convulsing as the blue electricity sizzled its flesh.
Then it collapsed, the whole platform in its body slamming onto the ground with it.
...It went silent...
Azula sneered at it, "Tch! I thought so," she looked over at Anjera, "Anjera, are you okay!?"
Anjera, who sat there, still in shock, stuttered out, "A-Azula? W-What are you doing here?"
"Honestly, I'm trying to figure out where 'here' is," Azula said as she rushed over to Anjera.
However, when she almost passed the monster, it started to rise up again.
"What!?" Azula turned around as she neared Anjera.
The Abstract Daddy staggered back on its feet and got back up, having to swing the whole platform part of its body to face the two girls once more. The monster seemed to speed up its walk toward them, apparently not happy at being shot by lightning.
Azula put her arm out to shield Anjera, while the latter was getting on her feet again.
"Stay back, Anjera! I'll take care of this atrocity!" Azula told her. She then shot a flame with the same arm that was shielding Anjera, aiming it at the Abstract Daddy.
The fire hit the monster and it roared out in pain, flailing around to somehow ease the flames. Azula didn't stop there as she fired more flames at the monster, with each punch and kick shooting fireball after fireball at the thing in rapid succession.
The Abstract Daddy kept roaring in pain, still burning as the flesh was melting off from her flames. However, it was still standing, albeit in agony. And then, seeing that it had enough, the monster charged at the two.
"Shit!" Azula didn't waste time as she grabbed Anjera's wrist and pull her as she ran the other way, away from the Abstract Daddy's line of vision, or lack thereof.
The two girls ran away from the monster as it almost crashed into the flesh wall. It turned around to see where they went, still aflame.
Azula and Anjera kept their distance from the Abstract Daddy, as the Fire Princess let the older teenager stay behind her.
"Okay, so this thing won't go down without a fight, huh?" Azula growled, "Well then, I guess I have to turn the flames a little higher!"
She took a deep breath and blew a fire breath, letting the blue fire shoot a stream at the Abstract Daddy, completely making the monster burn even fiercer.
It made its unnatural groan of agony, almost falling on the ground again. But, as it so happened, the monster was still staggering up toward them.
"Ugh! Come on!" Azula then shot fireballs continuously at the creature. As she was firing all of these shots, it was still coming up to them. Getting desperate, Azula said to Anjera, "Anjera, get away from this thing!"
Still in shock, but doing as she was told, Anjera moved away from them and put her back against a corner of the room, looking on at the battle taking place.
The Fire Princess glared at the Abstract Daddy as she kept punching fireballs, until she decided to just use her lightning again to deliver some kind of final blow. She charged her blue electricity and fired a shot at it!
It struck the burning underside of it and groaned loudly in pain as it plopped on the ground once again.
Azula went up to the monster, firebending stance and all, and gathered up some inner flames into her right hand to make one final hit on this thing's so-called head.
"YOU WON'T HURT ANJERA ANYMORE, YOU MONSTER!" Azula raised her hand, letting her two fingers out straight to stab the thing with her fiery hand.
But then, something came out of the abomination...
Azula...
She stopped, her hand in the air as she froze, her eyes widened just a bit as her face expressed...surprise.
...What?
...Words...words were coming out of the thing's 'mouth'.
Azula...
The Abstract Daddy...while it was still burning, began...to talk...
...Now, you wouldn't do that to your Father, would you?
Eyes went full-on wide, a gasp emerging from Azula's mouth.
You respect me...as I respect you.
Then...the mouth molded shut...the burning flesh was also molding...but not from decaying skin. It looked like the skin was forming, like it has a life of its own, the top of this monstrosity shifting its flesh to mold...a person.
Azula looked on...in shock...
This 'person' then began to form a face...
...the face of her father. Her father, Ozai.
Then, the face of Ozai spoke again.
You know how it goes, right?
...Azula...just looked at the face...that undeniably familiar face…
You be a good girl...and win my affection.
...Horror was beginning to seep in.
You know, make me proud. Hell, I might even give you a reward...
The Abstract Daddy...then took the form of her father...while below him...
Azula morbidly lowered her eyes to see what...her father was on top of...
...
...
...It was her.
Azula.
That's what you wanted...right?
...Azula froze, the fire dying from her hand.
She felt sick...
...Taking some steady steps back as the still burning monster 'looked' back at her, Azula began to feel it...
Upon clearly looking at every detail through the flames that are engulfing this monster, she sees a different kind…
She feels it...
...The feeling was fear.
Remember what I told you, Azula? How you looked just like her? ...Well, you do. And who knows? Maybe when you grow up...you could become just like her...and so much more.
"N-...N-No...s-stop...stop...stop," Azula stuttered, reliving that day. Remembering the way her father looked at her...with love. And as innocent as it almost looked, what he did truly bothered her...
When her father...went up to her...
...Told her that she looked different...gazing at her like she was someone else...
...And said she looked like her...
...Then he said he was proud of her...
...Proud that he made such a gorgeous-
"STOP! DON'T! DON'T! DON'T GO NEAR ME! STOP! STOOOP!"
He planted his lips on her...
Azula grabbed her own head with both hands, closing her eyes as she violently tried to shake off the image of the whole moment, a moment now thinking about it, was so wrong, so revolting, so...so depraved.
The monster then lifted its whole body over Azula...ready to pounce...
She cried, tears going down her face, truly disturbed.
It was one time. It was one time. It was one time. It was one time! He kissed me on the mouth one time, it didn't mean anything!
Oh, don't cry...Daddy will make you feel better.
"NO! NO, NO FATHER, PLEASE, DON'T!"
"AZULA!" shouted...Anjera!
Then, a powerful stream of fire came and passed Azula's right side, striking the Abstract Daddy.
"UUUUUUUGGGGGGHHHH!" the monster yelled out in agony.
Azula opened her eyes at the yell, gasping for air in shock.
The monster continued to burn, more fervently this time.
"AZULA! HOLD ON!" yelled Anjera as she ran past her, knife in her hand as she raised it over her head.
Then, with newfound courage, Anjera used the knife in her hand and slammed the blade down on the Abstract Daddy.
STAB!
"UUUUGHHH!"
"DIE YOU MISERABLE EXCUSE OF A FATHER!" Anjera exclaimed at it in fury.
She got the knife out of the thing's wound and started stabbing it repeatedly.
She kept stabbing...and stabbing...and stabbing...
"UUGH! AAAAUUUGGHHH! UUUUUUGGGGH! AAAAAAAUUUUUGGGGHHH!" the monster yelled out in extreme pain.
"DIE! DIE! DIE! JUST DIE, YOU DISGUSTING BASTARD!" Anjera screamed out, slashing and stabbing the monster as it was burning.
"OOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAUUUUUUGGGGGHHHH!"
Then...with one final stab in the thing's head, she pulled the knife out of the Abstract Daddy as it plopped himself onto the ground...burning...smoldering...and not moving...
...
Anjera just looked down at the body, the flames dying down...the corpse bleeding...the flesh of it cooked, the monster looking charred...
...
...After a minute of silence, it was evident...
It was dead.
Azula looked on at Anjera, once again in shock...
Anjera still looked down at the Abstract Daddy…
Her gaze on it was cold, a frown on her face, as her eyes were wide and shimmering...
Gritting her teeth she then delivered a kick to the corpse.
And another...and another kick...until she was rapidly kicking the dead thing.
She then started to stomp on it, right at its ugly face...
Then, with one last cry, she raised her knife hand and slammed the knife right onto its head.
SHUNK!
...She left the knife on its head.
Once she let go of the knife, Anjera stood up and wobbled a bit, alerting Azula.
"A-Anjera!?" Azula said to her, her mind still in a daze of what just happened.
But Anjera retained her balance and stood there for a moment...placing a hand on her own head...
"...Are...Are you okay, Azula?" Anjera asked her, turning her head, and soon her whole self to the Fire Princess.
...That was the understatement of the day.
"...I...I don't...know..." Azula trailed off.
They stood there...a dead and rotting corpse in this unnatural room with them.
...Anjera spoke, "I'm...I'm sorry you had to see that..."
Azula just looked at her for a moment, and back at the burnt and stab-wounded corpse.
"I'm...I'm sorry you had to...to fight for me," Anjera muttered.
The Fire Princess looked back at her in surprise. "What?"
"I...I probably deserved what I got...I don't know...and maybe I shouldn't have retaliated...maybe I would've...just let them do as they pleased...then I wouldn't be in this situation."
...Silence...
"...I truly am a disgusting person, am I-"
"No."
Anjera looked up at Azula, eyes wide with shock.
"...Don't be sorry," Azula told her firmly, "You haven't done anything wrong. You...You weren't in that situation to be punished. If anything, that...those bastards you call a father and a brother...they were the ones that deserved to be punished. You have every right to go all out on them...you had every right to...to retaliate. You didn't deserve what they've done to you."
...The older teenager lowered her gaze with a somber frown.
"Anjera!"
The young woman looked up at Azula again.
Azula gazed at her with a hard look, "It...was not your fault. It was never...your fault."
"...That thing...it imitated both my father and brother..." Anjera stated.
The Fire Princess glanced at the dead monster. She remained silent...
...Anjera then said, "Th-...Thank you."
The younger teenager looked back at her.
"...Thank you...for saving me...and letting me realize..." Anjera closed her eyes as she felt them tear up, "...for making me realize that...that I was innocent in all of this...and that I couldn't do anything...anything to stop it..."
"...But you did."
"...I did..."
...They both went quiet for a moment...
...Anjera then asked, "When...When you faced it, you said...you said it was your father that...you saw..."
"...I...it..."
"...If you want to, I can...hear you out?"
"...It...It was all-"
And then, the floor started to cave in.
"What-AH! AAAAAH!" Azula screamed.
"Wha-AHH! AAAAHH!" Anjera also screamed.
They both went through the floor, the flesh of the ground ripping beneath them as they fell down a lone hole…
They kept falling...screaming along the way down.
...Azula wakes up, her eyes slowly opening as she lay on the ground once more.
"Ugh..." Azula groans as she got up sluggishly on her hands, kneeling as she picked herself up.
...She was in a room...with two torches above a hole that was in front of her.
And Anjera wasn't with her this time...
...Make this stop...
Azula is done.
Her face grimaced into a pitiful frown, the tears forming in her eyes as they soon dripped down her face. Grabbing her face with both hands, she covered it to hide her weakness, just in case some Spirit is watching her from afar to see her suffer like this.
But soon, she let her hands drop in front of her, the tears falling off her face.
She doesn't care anymore.
So she just broke down right there.
She gasped a sob, and let it all out...the feeling of weakness...the feeling of being alone...the feeling of...
...No...
Azula gritted her teeth as she sniffled, glaring at the ground as she realized that she almost gave up.
No...no. I...I will beat this...even if I have to go down a multitude of holes, I will beat this!
Standing up, Azula stood in front of the hole. From her viewpoint, she sees that there was a ladder attached to the bottom ledge of the hole.
"...Tch. So it wants me to go down safely now, huh?" Azula sneered, "That's wonderful."
So she approached the hole and ladder and got on it to go down the hole...
Once she reached the bottom...her feet and shins had been submerged in water.
"...Oh, real freakin' funny," Azula scoffed. She looked down the hall where the hole led her, seeing that there were no torches lighting the way. "...Hmph," conjuring up a flame in her hand, she began walking through the shallow water down this hall.
As she kept walking down the hall, the water was sloshing as she lifted each foot to move forward. The hallway kept going as she continued onward, the halls and ceiling looking cavernous as she trudged on. Some droplets came dripping down as they landed in the shallow water, making ripples on the fluid surface.
Still going with her flame in her hand, she kept sloshing through the water on the ground.
...Then, she came across an intersection...a crossroads. One path that goes forward, and two paths from her left and right.
Looking at the paths, she thought about her options.
"..." Azula sighed irritably, "...Screw it. I'm just going straight."
She went straight down the path and kept walking...
...Something could just go up and grab her from the water.
Azula stopped and glanced down at the water to see if anything was swimming in it...
...There wasn't anything so far.
"...Hmph!" Azula then just kept going but kept her eyes peeled for anything moving in the water.
...She kept walking...
...Trudging...
...Trekking...
...As she continued to walk through the water, the silence was almost making her feel a little paranoid.
She was really struggling on making any sense out of this...
...Why am I here?
That's the real question, isn't it?
...Just...why am I here?
...
...
...Do you want to know the answer?
Azula stopped in her sloshing walk, the water around her submerged feet becoming still.
"...Who's there?" she asked, eyes narrowed as she wondered if she has to be on the offensive.
...You have chosen your path...now, you must commit to it.
"...Commit to my path?" Azula asked in irritated confusion. "Who are you!?"
...
...The silence felt choking, the feeling almost like her breath has stopped as she felt some sense of dread seeping through...
...Then, she heard water sloshing slowly towards her...
Azula gasped only slightly as she prepared the flame in her hand, readying herself into a battle stance.
After what felt like a few long seconds, there came another figure walking toward her light...
...The Fire Princess's eyes went wide.
"...What?" she asked in pure confusion.
The person that was standing in front a little away from her...
...was herself.
"...H-...How...?" she asked this...this other self that looked like her.
The Azula replica was wearing the same thing, her hair in the same straight fashion, her complexion still the same...she looked the same.
It was like looking at a mirror.
The replica stared at her...and said, "I walked. I could do nothing but walk. And then, I saw me walking in front of myself. But, it wasn't really me."
"...What?" Azula blinked, "Wha...What are you-"
"Watch out. This place...it's a separate reality. The only me is me...are you sure the only you is you?"
"..." Azula slowly scowled, "What...What does that even mean!?"
...The Azula replica then turned around and walked through the water, back into the darkness.
"H-Hey. Hey! Hey, you! Who are you!? Answer me!" Azula shouted at the look-a-like. "Just tell me what the Hell I'm supposed to do here!? Just tell me how to get home! COME BACK HERE!"
...The sounds of water sloshing were growing further away...
Azula gritted her teeth. "Oh no you don't! You come back here!"
She rushed over to the replica as best as she can through the water.
Thinking that she could somehow catch up to this version of herself, she kept trudging through, the water feeling a lot heavier than usual.
Grunting, she struggled to keep up with the replica, splashing water in all different directions...
More water splashed as she ran forward...
...Then, amidst the splashing, she heard...other splashes...
Azula stopped to hear them a little more clearly...
The splashes came even closer...
There was something...dragging...dragging in the water...
...Azula waited...the feeling of slight dread creeping up on her...
Then, the figure showed itself in the light of Azula's flame…
Her eyes widened in shock.
...It was...
...It was that thing from the prison...
The Right-Hand Man.
Only this time, he was carrying a spear. A spear that he was dragging in the water.
Azula backed away from the metal-plated monstrosity.
When it got just a little close to her, he lifted the spear with his one arm and raised it over his head...about to strike her with it.
But Azula wasn't going to let it win.
Taking a deep breath, she blew a stream of fire breath from the flame she was carrying and aimed it at the Right-Hand Man.
The fire stream struck the body of the monster, burning parts of his flesh, and making it give out a muffled yell in pain as it backed away.
Azula then turned around and tried to run away from him, the water keeping her speed at a minimum.
The Right-Hand Man recovered from the burns, swinging the spear down to let the water below him put out the fires that were spreading on the exposed parts of his skin. He then trudged through the water, trying to catch up to Azula.
As Azula ran in the water, the splashing liquid made it hard for her to conjure up flames, the only light that she can muster up was from her fire shots to see if she was going in a straight line, which made it hard for her to do because of said water flying around as she ran.
She glanced behind the monster that was gaining on her, shooting a fireball from behind so she can damage him and light her way through the watery hall.
Keep going...keep going! You can't fight that thing in close quarters, along with there being water around this hallway...but you have to keep going! Go back to the intersecting hallways!
Turning around, she fired another fire blast at the Right-Hand Man, making him scream through his metal-plated face, muffling it.
The Fire Princess kept going...
...and going...
...and going...
...and still kept going. Trudging through the water...
...That was when she realized...
Wh-Where were the halls!? It feels like I would've come up to them by now!
So she kept going...and going...and going...and going...
The water kept splashing around her as she ran.
...She was starting to get tired...
Huffing and panting from running in heavy water, Azula was wondering if she made the wrong mistake of taking this path...
You have chosen your path.
She tripped on the water, making her fall into it on her knees.
"ACK!"
Azula splashed into the water, letting it be up to her stomach.
"No! No! I-I have to escape! I have to!" she said desperately.
She got up, trying to keep going in the water...
She kept going for what felt like three minutes...
She was exhausted...
...and that was until she hit a wall.
Just a plain wall.
Eyes widened in horror, she screamed out, "NO! No, no, no, nooo!"
Azula went up to the wall and pounded on the cavernous wall, probably hurting her hands as she does this. But she doesn't care. She wants out.
"Let me out! Let me out, let me out, let me out, let me out, let me out, let me out!" she screamed out.
She kept pounding the wall...
Now she leaned on it...and slid down to her knees in the water...sobbing...
Azula just sobbed...cried...wept...
She truly just...couldn't take it anymore.
Gasping for breath like she was hyperventilating, she can hear the sloshing footsteps of the Right-Hand Man...
...Slosh...
...Slosh...
...Slosh...
...SLOSH...
...SLOSH...
...SLOSH!
...Azula just couldn't look at the monster.
...
She then stood up and turned around and fired every bit of her firebending at it as best as she can.
"RAAAAAAAAAAUUUUGGGGGGHHHH!" Azula yelled in a rage.
She fired blast, after blast, after blast, after blast...
...And then she finished it with a deep breath and blew a giant blue fire breath at the man.
FLAAAAAAAAWWWIIIIIISSSHHHHWWWWOOOOMM!
The fire engulfed the Right-Hand Man...now his whole body burning with blue fire...
But the odd thing was...he wasn't screaming in pain anymore.
Out of breath, Azula panted, staring down at the monstrous being.
...It was still standing...still burning...
...Grimacing at her failed attempt, Azula just sobbed. She let out a loud wail, as she went down in the water on her knees again, grabbing her face as she let the tears fall...
...The Right-Hand Man was still standing...spear in hand...
She sniffled, hiccupped, and bawled.
Azula then finally shouted at the monster:
WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME!?
...It didn't answer...
Having a pitiful and hopeless frown on her face, she looked up at the being, feeling as if it was telling her through its mind...
...She then realized...
Azula's eyes widened as she had a look...a look of understanding...
"...I did choose this path..." Azula began.
...It still stood there...burning...
"...I...I chose to go forward..."
...Still standing...
"...I...moved forward..."
...
"...I moved forward to go to my punishment..."
...
"...You're my punisher..."
...
"...I...I truly failed..."
...
"...I...I admit..."
...
"...I admit defeat."
...Standing...
"...I admit defeat," Azula confessed.
The proud Fire Princess admits...defeat.
...He still stood there...
"..." Azula lowered her head down, not looking at the monster. "...I see now..."
...
"...In that case...do as you wish...I accept my fate..."
"...I'm ready..."
...The Right-Hand Man then raised his spear over his head.
Azula kneeled in the water...waiting for the inevitable punishment.
...Maybe now...she can find...
Peace.
...
...
...
...Azula looked up at her punisher.
...The Right-Hand Man looked like he was frozen, his arm still high in the air with the spear in his hand.
Azula just stared at the monster...waiting for it...
...
...
...
...He lowered the tip of the spear downward.
This was it...
...But then...
SHUNK!
...He stabbed himself...in the neck.
Blood splattered and poured out of the wound and onto Azula's face.
...Azula blinked.
Then, the Right-Hand Man used the blade of the spear to horizontally tear his own throat, letting blood pour out of it, dripping and dropping into the water, making it blood red...
He didn't make a sound...the only sound that was made was the tearing of flesh.
Then...he collapsed on his back...into the water.
SPLASH!
...The Right-Hand Man sunk into the water...the blood flooding into the water...
Azula just kneeled there...until she got up on her feet...she stood there with the bloody water up to her shins...
...It went quiet...
The smell of copper went through the air...the blood was heavy...
...Azula just...stood there...
...I was...really asking for my death...
...She doesn't know where to go from-
SPLOOOSH!
From behind Azula, there was a figure that looked like her, but she was all pale with no eyes in her sockets, having a neutral expression as she wrapped her hands around the real Azula's face, grabbing her by the top and bottom parts of her face.
Azula gasped and tried to scream, but the hands muffled her.
She was then dragged down into the blood water, letting her fall backward into it...
SPLAAAAASH!
Azula tried to struggle in the water...
…but then...she felt...calm...
Relaxed...
Serene...
At peace...
...She was a whole different person...
Like her entire sins were washed away.
Azula woke up.
She let out a gasp, her eyes wide in shock.
...She was...on a chair...
She was...in...
...the hotel...
She was sitting in the hotel lobby, where there were...pieces of furniture stacked up near the doors.
...She heard a gasp as well, along with some panting...
Azula turned to her left...
...Across from the side of the table, there sat Anjera.
She too looked shocked...
There was also a single candle with its holder next to them on the table, the wax already at the bottom of the holder.
...Azula looked around the area...
...Nothing seemed different.
She and Anjera then looked ahead of themselves...
They saw Ai...kneeling and praying, her eyes closed...
...Then, Ai's eyes fluttered open.
She looked up and glanced at both girls...
...Ai smiled at them warmly.
She stands up, her metal feet clanking as she stood.
"...Welcome back, little ones," Ai greeted them tenderly.
...Azula and Anjera...were thinking one thing…
What...is going on here?
The only me is me. Are you sure the only you is you?
