Episode 10: Sins of the Grandfather

Coast City: 4:17pm. Crow, Huntress, Green Canary, Green Lantern (Martin Jr), Impulse and Monkey Prince are locked in combat with Adonis, who now has a new suit to retain his strength in his advanced age.

Adonis:
(Laughs proudly)
All these years later and I'm still a knockout.

Huntress:
And a creep.

Monkey Prince leaps onto Adonis' back, dropping a few hairs onto the ground to create clones, which then climb all over Adonis.

Adonis:
Get your paws off me you damn dirty monkeys!

Adonis manages to shake them all off. Fortunately, Martin Jr is able to use his ring to create hands which catch Monkey Prince and his clones and take them to safety. From there, Martin Jr. has all of the hands come together to create a giant fist which he sends flying towards Adonis. Adonis catches the fist in his hand and tries to hold it back. Martin Jr begins straining to push the fist forwards.

Martin Jr:
A little help here.

Green Canary:
I'll distract him for you!

Green Canary fires a series of arrows at Adonis to catch his attention.

Martin Jr:
I can't... hold... it... forever!

Impulse:
We'd be putting up a better resistance if Jaden were here! Where the hell is he?

Crow:
If I had to guess, he's caught up in another stupid video game.

Green Canary:
Like you don't get caught up in your music?

Crow:
Touché.

Crow summons some demons to join the fight and help Martin Jr. out.

Huntress:
(Sees the demons) Remember to control them this time!

Crow says nothing and orders the demons to attack Adonis. Eventually, Hornet lands at the site and takes off his helmet.

All:
Jaden!

Impulse:
It's about time you showed up!

Hornet:
I got sucked into that new game.

Green Canary:
We know! You get sucked into every game you play!

Hornet:
No, I mean literally sucked in...ah, it's not important right now. What's the sitch?

Martin Jr loses his shoving match with Adonis and he is flown into a wall.

Huntress:
That.

Adonis then easily knocks out the demons that Crow sent after them.

Crow:
How do you knockout demons?! Who does that?

Adonis:
This bad boy right here! (Flexes his 'muscles')

Hornet puts his helmet back on and scans Adonis' suit for a possible weakness.

Hornet:
Aim for the biceps, guys!

Impulse:
Roger!

Quickly runs up to Adonis and drop kicks Adonis right on the left bicep. Gradually, it starts to deflate.

Adonis:
Aw, not cool, man.

Impulse:
What's not cool is stealing this suit from STAR labs.

Adonis:
I'll take whatever I want from whoever I want! I am Adonis!

Martin Jr:
You're annoying is what you are!

He creates a baseball bat and whacks the other bicep. With both biceps taken care of, Crow summons another demon to restrain him.

Crow:
Azarath Metrion Zinthos!

A large demon with tentacles appears, and he uses those tentacles to wrap Adonis good and tight so he couldn't escape.

Adonis:
What in the name of Cthulhu?!

Crow:
Keep him there while we wait for the cops to arrive, boy.

Adonis:
That's what I said. As weak as your parents.

Crow:
Our parents aren't weak!

Impulse:
Calm down, he's just trying to get under your skin.

Huntress:
He's such a sore loser.

Hornet points his blaster at Adonis.

Hornet:
Out of the suit.

Adonis:
Make me, child.

Crow:
Do as he says!

He uses his magic to try to pull Adonis out of the suit. However, in doing so, he causes Adonis pain.

Impulse:
Crow, stop! (Crow stops) There's an easier way to get him out.

Martin Jr:
Use a can opener?

Imuplse:
No. (He vibrates the molecules of the armour until Adonis slides out) There, without violence.

Adonis:
You'll all pay for this, especially you, the son of the weak!

Crow:
I'll teleport him to jail.

Hornet's communicator begins to buzz. He answers it.

Hornet:
Hello?

Cyborg (Voice):
Jaden, you should come home right now. I got a call from the retirement home; it's about Grandpa.

Hornet:
Okay, I'll be right there.

He hangs up.

Hornet:
I have a family issue I must tend to.

He flies off.

Impulse:
Given the date, it must be about Silas Stone's impending death.

Huntress:
Bart!

Impulse:
Oops, spoilers.

He runs off at full speed.

Green Canary:
He could have been more tactful.

Martin Jr:
That's true but he was very old and sick.

He flies away too.

Green Canary:
You could have been more tactful too!

Adonis:
Heh, and I thought I had issues.

Crow:
Please shut up.

Star City Retirement Village: 5:38pm. Jaden, Cyborg and Karen are in the foyer, standing at the front desk.

Cyborg:
We're here to see Silas Stone.

Nurse:
Of course, he's been expecting you three.

The three head down the hall past the dining room until they reach Room #7; the plaque on the door read 'Silas Stone'. Cyborg gently knocks on the door three times.

Silas:
(Weakly; on the other side) Come in.

The Stones enter the room to find Silas on life support. The carefully approach his bed so they can talk to him.

Cyborg:
Dad? We're here.

Karen:
Silas?

Jaden:
Hey, gramps.

Silas:
(Smiles) Son, Karen, Jaden. Glad you three could make it.

Cyborg:
As soon as we heard that things weren't looking good, we rushed right over.

Silas:
Close the door.

Jaden closes the door behind them before re-joining his parents and grandfather.

Cyborg:
Let's not sugar coat things, dad. How long do you think you've got?

Silas:
My doctor handed me the results this morning. The toxins from the accident that killed your mother and mutilated your body have advanced to a stage where no medication can keep them at bay any longer. They're over there if you want to take a look. (Points at some papers sitting on a counter)

Jaden grabs the papers and the family quickly reads through them.

Karen:
This isn't good.

Silas:
Doctors estimate I have the next 48 hours to live...at best.

Jaden:
48?

Silas:
Maybe less.

Karen:
Is there anything we can do to make your last moments more bearable?

Silas:
(Sighs) I have many regrets I wish to fulfil.

Cyborg:
Anything you need dad, we're there for you.

Silas:
I've never seen one of your football games when you were in college.

Cyborg:
I think I can find footage from one of my games somewhere.

Silas:
Not a replay; I mean I haven't seen one game in-person.

Cyborg:
You didn't seem to care at the time. We had argued about it a lot. But that's in the past, I forgave you a long time ago. You're the one who allowed me to fly.

Karen:
Unfortunately, we don't have access to a time machine so we can go back and help you watch one of your son's live games.

Cyborg:
We could stage one. We can get our friends to come and play in a mock football game, and you can be the guest of honour, dad.

Jaden:
I think that sounds like a great idea, dad. Not to mention, a football game might be even more entertaining knowing that the players have superpowers.

He coughs before taking a breath from his oxygen mask.

Cyborg:
(Turns to his family) Let's go round everyone up, you two. We'll meet at the Star City High School football field.

Karen:
Okay.

Jaden:
You got it.

Star City University: two hours later. Silas is seen in the bleachers with Jaden and his friends while their parents are on the field picking teams. The girls (Starfire, Raven, Terra, Karen, Jinx, M'Gann, Jade, Artemis, Barbara, Kara, Donna, Zatanna, Argent and Ravager) are wearing tights and sports bras; the boys (Dick, Garfield, Wally, Cyborg, Roy, Garth, Conner, Jaime, Virgil, Mal, Isaiah and Jason) are wearing shorts and are shirtless. Cyborg stands in front of the bleachers.

Cyborg:
Thank you all for coming. As you all know, my father, and our guest of honour, Silas Stone, is not long for this world, and during his lifetime, he hasn't once gotten the chance, due to his job, to watch a college football match. Today, we fulfil his wish, so let's have a good game.

Wally:
(Cracks his knuckles) This is going to be all too easy.

Jade:
(Craning her neck) In your dreams, Wally.

Dick:
Whose got the coin to decide who goes first?

Garfield:
Right here. (Takes a coin out from his pocket)

Dick:
Heads, men. Tails, women.

He flips the coin high into the air; it turn as it falls before landing on the grass.

Dick:
(Looking at the coin) Tails.

Argent:
You heard him, ladies first.

Cyborg:
I'll kickoff.

The boys and girls team take their places. Cyborg kicks the football and it lands in Starfire's hands. Dick runs and tackles Starfire to the ground, just as she disposes of the ball, which is then intercepted by Wally. Wally wastes no time in using his superspeed to get to the endzone so he can score a touchdown.

Wally:
Touchdown!

The boys erupt into cheers. In the bleachers, Silas smiles and Lilith summons a bucket of popcorn. She offers some to Koro.

Koro:
(Smiles) Thanks, Lil.

Lilith:
Popcorn always tastes better when you have someone to share it with.

Koro:
Yeah (A faint blush appears on his face as he takes a handful)

Kacey:
Great score, Dad!

Lian:
Kick their asses, Mom!

Jade:
That's my intention.

Back at the game, Garth is the one to kick the ball over to the girl team. This time, the player to catch it is Karen. She begins running towards the boys' side of the pitch. She is approached on both sides by Jason and Mal; she quickly throws it to Jinx. As Jinx catches it, Karen shrinks down to avoid getting tackled, causing Jason and Mal to crash into each other face first.

Jason:
(Rubbing his head) Idiot!

Mal:
Hey, you're the one who thought flanking the girl who can shrink in size would be a good idea!

Cyborg:
Stop arguing.

Meanwhile, Jinx throws the football to Terra, who was already in the opposing team's endzone, scoring the girls a touchdown.

Starfire:
(Jumping into the air) Woo!

Garfield:
Don't get distracted now, Dick.

Dick:
You're one to talk. You've been eyeing Raven up and down since we started.

Virgil:
Hey, are we here to bicker, or are we here to win?

Garfield:
Let's win!

Alloroc:
(From the bleachers) Yeah, Mom!

In the bleachers, Jaden looked at Silas, who was looking younger and happier now.

Jaden:
Enjoying the game, grandpa?

Silas:
For as long as I can remember, I've always wanted to see my son and his teammates shine in a football game. And now, as I have only moments left to live, I can easily say with a smile on my face that I have achieved that goal.

Jaden:
I'm glad to hear that, gramps. (They go back to watching the game) Was there anything else you wanted to do after this?

Silas:
Later, Jaden. After the game.

On the field, Roy is about to catch the ball from Cyborg; however, Jade knocks him down before he could catch it. This gives Ravager ample time to grab the ball before it can touch the ground, allowing her to run to the opposing team's endzone, scoring the girls another touchdown. The girls cheer as Roy gets up.

Jaime:
I can't believe we're losing to a bunch of girls.

Mal:
Quit talking like you're in grade school. Besides it's not over yet.

Terra:
It's not over till we bury you.

Garth:
Bring it on, sweetheart!

Terra:
Don't flatter me, babe. We're on opposing sides.

Cyborg:
Let's buckle down, boys. We have three quarters left and anything can happen.

Adeline:
That's it! Mom has scored! (Elbows her twin brother to get enthusiastic)

Time passes: it's the final quarter and both teams are tied.

Raven:
Your turn to kick off.

Garfield:
Right! Jason, care to help me out?

Jason:
You got it.

Jason is handed the football and he throws it to Garfield, who turns into a horse. As a horse, Garfield uses his hindlegs to kick the football to the girls. Kara flies up and catches it before throwing it to Barbara. Barbara runs but Dick tackles her to the ground. Zatanna has time to catch the ball.

Zatanna:
This point is ours. Ekam eht llab oot yvaeh rof eht syob.

She throws the ball to Donna who flies away. Jaime uses his sonic cannon to disorient her, making her drop the ball. Conner gets in front of the ball and tries to pick it up but it's too heavy.

Conner:
What?

Isaiah:
What the hell are you doing?

Conner:
I can't lift it!

Artemis catches the ball without a problem.

Artemis:
Thanks, Zee.

Conner:
I hate magic!

M'Gann:
We know.

She catches the ball telekinetically and throws it towards Argent but the ball goes through a portal.

Mal:
We're not done yet.

The ball comes out of another portal. Garth tries to catch it but it's too heavy.

Jinx:
Looks like you're out of luck.

She grabs the ball and runs, shooting pink beams to explode the field and keep the boys from getting close. Virgil pulls metal pipes out of the ground, causing an earthquake strong enough to knock Jinx over.

Jinx:
Hey, Tara, I'm on your side!

Terra:
I didn't do anything!

Roy:
If the strongest can't catch this ball, how are we gonna score?

Argent forms a giant red hand and tackles the ball.

Argent:
Easy, you can't.

Cyborg:
Okay, rule change. No magic.

Zatanna:
Okay. Ekam eht llab lamron.

The ball turns back to normal as Zatanna throws it to Barbara.

Wally:
I got her!

Wally uses his speed to try and knock her down, but before that can happen, Barbara throws the football to Starfire who flies towards the opposing endzone.

Conner:
Stop her!

Garth:
I'm on it!

Starfire sees Garth coming at her and she throws it towards Raven. Wally runs to intercept the ball, only for Raven to use her magic to trip her up. Raven catches the ball and sees Argent in the opposing endzone.

Raven:
Game! Set! (Throws the ball) Match!

Argent catches the ball and touches down.

Cyborg:
Full time! Girls win!

The girls jump up, cheer, and high five. Isaiah walks up to Argent.

Isaiah:
Good point, Toni.

Argent:
I'm glad you kept a cool head out there.

Isaiah:
What can I say. I've done a lot of growing up since we were teenagers.

Argent:
And it shows. (She kisses him)

The two teams congratulate each other on a well played game, with those being in a relationship congratulating each other with a hug and/or a kiss.

Damian:
I suspected that the girls would win since superpowers were allowed.

Mar'i:
There was still a speedster and two strong guys in the group of boys but you're not wrong.

As the heroes and heroines put their shirts back on and go their separate ways, Cyborg and Karen regroup with Jaden and Silas on the bleachers.

Silas:
What a game.

Jaden:
You both did awesome out there.

Karen:
We wanted to put on a good show. We're glad you both liked it.

Silas:
I feel as though I can die peacefully now. Really, from the bottom of my heart, thank you.

Cyborg:
There has to be more that you want to do before you die, dad.

Karen:
Yeah. Whatever it is you want to do just name it and we'll do our best to make your wishes come true.

Silas:
I would like to see my wife before we reunite.

Cyborg:
Of course, dad.

As Cyborg and Karen escort Silas to their car, Jaden is approached by his team.

Jaden:
Sorry I can't be with you guys right now. This is kind of important to me and my family.

Martin Jr.:
We understand, man. Take all the time you need.

Impulse:
Just make sure you re-join us as soon as Old Man Silas kicks the bucket.

Olivia:
Bart!

Marcus:
Would it kill you to have a heart for once in your life?

Bart:
I have a heart; it speaks for someone I wish to reunite with one day.

Helena:
Anyway, Jaden, your grandfather is more important. The rest of us can handle whatever threats show up in Coast City until you get back.

Jaden:
Thanks guys. I owe you one.

He runs after his family.

Later at the Star City Cemetery. The Stone's were standing in front of the grave of Eleanor Stone.

Jaden:
I really wish I could've met grandma.

Cyborg:
She would've loved you to pieces, Jaden.

Jaden:
What was she like?

Silas:
Well, she was a renowned scientist just like me. If there was anyone on Earth smarter than me it was definitely her. I got to see her intelligence firsthand when we teamed up to make a dimensional transmitter all those years ago.

Jaden:
Cool.

Silas:
And like your father said, we know she would've loved you lots, Jaden. She just had a way with children; she loved them and they loved her in return.

Cyborg:
I'm sorry I betrayed you with another, Mom. I shouldn't have brought that pie back to the tower.

Jaden:
What pie?

Cyborg:
Didn't I tell you that story? A few days before Rachel triggered the end of the world with her father, I brought a pie back to the tower. Delicious when I think about it. But what I didn't know was that it was a bewitched pie that would release a filthy witch. She pretended to be my mother and the other Titans' mothers and she almost ate us. If Kory hadn't hit me on the head, you wouldn't even be born.

Jaden:
Wow.

Silas:
I'm sure that your mother forgave you a long time ago. You weren't really yourself, were you ?

Cyborg:
Yeah, Mother Mae Eye had me eating a lot of pies that hypnotized me and even regressed me mentally. I hope we never see her again.

Silas:
I hope that someday you find someone as good as my wife, Jaden.

Jaden:
(Begins thinking about Ashlyn) The sad part is I think I already have. But she's kind of a 'long distance' sort of girl, you know?

Silas:
Uh...no.

Jaden:
It wouldn't work out.

Silas:
There will be someone out there for you. Just be patient and don't give up.

Jaden:
Thanks, grandpa.

Karen lays some flowers on the grave, before they return to the car.

In Coast City, Jaden's team were dealing with Plasmus.

Huntress:
Surrender now, Otto, and we won't be forced to hurt you!

Plasmus just bellows and throws more protoplasm.

Crow:
Alright, hard way it is! Azarath Metrion Zinthos!

He uses his magic in an attempt to blow up Plasmus; it works until he reforms.

Monkey Prince:
(Creates clones of himself) Impulse and I will keep him distracted.

Huntress:
Watch yourselves.

Impulse:
Hey! Pimples!

Impulse and the Monkey Prince and his clones run circles around Plasmus, hitting him whenever they see an opening.

Martin Jr:
I have a plan. When I give the signal, Huntress and Green Canary will fire as many soporific arrows at him as they can.

Green Canary:
I think I see what you're getting at.

Huntress:
Anyway, hitting him over and over won't do anything, so it's worth a shot.

Impulse and the multiple Monkey Prince clones continue to harass Plasmus to no avail.

Monkey Prince:
(Touching the protoplasm) Ugh! He's all over my fur!

Impulse:
(To Crow) Too bad you can't do the same technique as your mother.

Crow:
Yeah, I wasn't paying attention like my sisters.

Martin Jr:
Impulse, Monkey Prince, back off!

Both of them back off.

Green Canary:
I think that's the signal.

Huntress:
Yeah, I got it.

They fire all their soporific arrows at Plasmus and Martin Jr seals him in a green bubble. Otto eventually falls asleep, reverting to human form.

Green Canary:
Good call, babe!

Martin Jr:
Don't distract me until we put him away.

Green Canary:
Sorry.

Huntress:
Let's get him into a stasis chamber before he wakes up.

As they begin to move Otto, Crow begins hearing voices as three police officers approach the team.

Police Officer #1:
We'll take him off your hands now.

Huntress:
Thanks.

Crow:
GO AWAY!

Martin Jr:
What's got you worked up? They're humble officers of the law.

Crow:
No they're not; they're demons.

Impulse:
What are you talking about, they look like normal pig-uh, I mean policemen to me.

Suddenly, the lead officer starts chuckling ominously and his face melts away to reveal the face of Wrath!

Wrath:
We can't pull the wool over your eyes can we, nephew?

Impulse:
Now I've seen everything.

Crow:
You! You're my uncles! The ones that mother warned me about!

The other two officers reveal themselves as Lust and Envy.

Envy:
You are correct, my dear boy.

Crow:
I don't understand. What are you three doing here?

Impulse:
They must've come to pick up their order.

Monkey Prince:
What are you talking about? What order?

Impulse:
(Cracks his knuckles) An extra-large clobbering topped with everything!

Crow:
Impulse, they're out of your league!

Impulse:
If we band together, there's no way we can lose!

Crow:
Impulse, stop, you don't understand!

Impulse rushes in, only to be picked up and flung back.

Wrath:
How pathetic. Give up now, surrender Murdoc to us, and we might spare all of you a most gruesome death!

Voice:
He's not going with you!

A portal appears and Raven, in her white cloak, steps through it.

Huntress:
Auntie Rae!

Envy:
Ugh! You again?

Raven:
Get away from my son! Azarath Metrion Zinthos!

Raven manages to lift Wrath, Lust, and Envy off of the ground before slamming them down on the ground hard. She does this three more times before...

Wrath:
ENOUGH!

He unleashes a blast that blasts the Titans back, but Raven stands firm

Martin Jr.:
Need us to help you out? These guys are tough!

Raven:
Don't worry about me, I'll be fine. Right now, you need to get Murdoc as far away from here as possible!

She creates a portal and teleports the Titans to an unknown location, before focusing her attention on her brothers.

Lust:
Alone at last!

Raven:
Azarath Metrion Zinthos!

She fires a barrage of dark energy at her three brothers, only for them to sink into the ground, disappearing from site. The three of them reappear behind Raven. They blast her, and Raven goes tumbling along the ground. Wrath, Lust and Envy stand over her.

Envy:
Until next time, sister.

Raven:
You three aren't going to get away from me!

She fires more dark energy blasts, but the brothers disappear in a puff of smoke. Raven gets up and surveys the area; she opens the portal and the Coast City Titans are brought back.

Raven:
Are you alright?

Huntress:
Yes, we're fine.

Monkey Prince:
What the heck is going on?! Who were those freaks?!

Raven:
My brothers.

Crow:
How'd you know they were here?

Raven:
I felt your distress.

Martin Jr.:
Why do they want Murdoc so bad?

Raven:
My brothers are trying to revive Trigon by using him as his next vessel.

Monkey Prince:
(Panicked) Revive Trigon?

Green Canary:
Well, if he is revived, it shouldn't be that big of a deal. I mean, Auntie Rae defeated him once before, I'm sure she can do it again.

Raven:
Don't speak about Trigon so lightly, Olivia. If he does come back, especially in a younger and more agile body like Murdoc's, we're going to be in more trouble than you'd ever think possible.

Crow:
Thanks, Mom. I thought we were goners.

Raven:
I've been watching you ever since you regained your powers.

Crow:
They're never gonna leave me alone. Maybe you should kill me if taking away my powers isn't enough.

Raven:
Your dad and I have said it before, we're not doing that.

Crow:
So what can we do to stop them? Every time you try and every time they flee.

Raven:
They fear a confrontation with me. Since I destroyed Trigon, the thought of fighting me head-on terrifies them.

Crow:
Yeah.

Star City: Evening. The Stone family are at a steakhouse.

Silas:
These steaks haven't lost their amazing taste after all these years.

Cyborg:
Try the peppercorns; it takes the steak to the next level.

Silas:
Believe me, son, I know. And I hope there's more of these steaks waiting for me in the great beyond.

Cyborg:
I'm sure of it. You'll get to dine with Mom.

The waitress comes over with a tray of four plates; all steaks. Cyborg cuts into his.

Cyborg:
Rare; just the way I like it.

He devours his with enthusiasm.

Silas:
Slow down son, it's not going anywhere.

Cyborg:
I want to do as many things with you as possible.

Karen:
Don't rush, honey. We have to make every moment with him count.

Cyborg:
All right, I'll slow down.

He chews slower as Silas eats his steak.

Silas:
Jaden, how's Titan life going for you?

Jaden:
It's one heck of a roller coaster that's for sure. One minute we're taking on minor 'villains of the week', the next we're taking on massive threats like The Court of Owls, Brainiac, and even more beyond that. It's definitely not a boring job, I'll tell you that much.

Silas:
It's good to see that leadership runs in the family; your mother led her own Titans team, and your father was captain of his football team.

Jaden:
Yeah. And, not to brag, but in my team sometimes I feel like the only competent one to lead. Huntress does come pretty close though. I just hope they're not floundering about without me.

Silas:
She's Bruce's daughter. I'm sure they're just fine with her filling in for you.

Jaden:
Still though, do you mind if I excuse myself so I can check up on them?

Cyborg:
Go ahead, son.

Jaden:
Thanks.

Jaden leaves for the bathroom. He hides out in a stall and takes out his communicator.

Jaden:
How are you faring?

Huntress:
(Voice) It was crazy, Jaden. After we took out Plasmus, these three freaks from who knows where shows up calling themselves the Sons of Trigon.

Jaden:
Really?

Huntress:
(Voice) Yeah. And that's not all. They said that they want to revive Trigon by using Murdoc as some kind of vessel for him.

Jaden:
This sounds like science fiction.

Huntress:
(Voice) With a hint of horror.

Jaden:
Well how's Murdoc doing now? Are you all safe?

Huntress:
(Voice) We're back in the Coast City Tower recuperating. But I think we should all keep a close eye on Murdoc. Who knows when and where we'll see those three again.

Jaden:
Just remain vigilant. I should get back to dinner. I'll see you soon

He shuts off the communicator and rejoins his family at their table.

Karen:
How are they doing?

Jaden:
They're fine. They apparently had a run in with a trio of bad guys who call themselves 'The Sons of Trigon'.

Cyborg:
Oh yes, we had an encounter with them not too long ago.

Jaden:
So you know what they're capable of?

Cyborg:
Manipulation, possession, shapeshifting.

Karen:
Anything that Raven and Murdoc can do, but with far greater power.

Jaden:
Yup, another massive threat comes knocking on our door.

Silas:
The good news is I won't have to see that.

Cyborg:
You'll miss out on an epic fight though, dad.

Karen:
You seem pretty confident, sweetie.

Cyborg:
Why shouldn't we be? We handled Raven's brothers once before. And if Trigon does come back, I know we can put him out to pasture like we did before.

They continue eating their steak.

Cyborg:
We should be getting you back to the home soon.

Silas:
Actually, I'd like to spent tonight at your home. It would be nice to spend my final moments surrounded by the people I love the most.

Coast City; night. The Coast City Titans are back at the tower, out of uniform (they put their uniform in the laundry); Olivia was trying to remove protoplasm from Martin Jr's hair.

Martin Jr.:
Ow! Babe, be careful!

Olivia:
I'm trying! It's really stuck in there!

Martin Jr.:
You know I accidentally got bubble-gum stuck in my hair when I was eight. That was easier to get out than this protoplasm!

Bart then enters, wearing a towel.

Bart:
(Smelling himself) I've had three showers, and put on deodorant, but I still smell like goop!

Martin Jr:
Don't you have a futuristic gadget that could fix this?

Bart:
Yeah, but I left it in my own time.

Bart grabs a bottle of tomato juice from the refrigerator.

Bart:
If this doesn't work, then I officially give up.

Just then Helena and Marcus come out from Murdoc's room.

Olivia:
How's Murdoc doing after today's encounter with his uncles?

Helena:
He's still shaken.

Martin Jr.:
You don't really think those guys are as powerful as Raven says they are?

Bart:
Well, they absolutely bodied me.

Marcus:
Only because your plan of attack was to rush in and darn the consequences.

Bart:
It's called acting on impulse.

Olivia:
At least you live up to your namesake.

He takes the tomato juice and heads back to the bathroom. Helena goes to use the showers by the training hall.

Marcus:
(Mutters to himself) And the new guy showers last.

Martin Jr:
That's how the cookie crumbles, Marcus.

Marcus:
Meh, it's fine. I guess I gotta earn my keep.

In his recording studio, Murdoc was still shaken.

Murdoc:
Maybe some meditation will calm me down.

He opens his phone, accesses his music, selects 'Enter Sandman' and sits cross-legged with his eyes closed.

Murdoc:
(Slowly) Azarath, Metrion, Zinthos. Azarath, Metrion, Zinthos. Azarath, Metrion, Zinthos.

Voice 1:
It's not very smart to give us access to your brain.

Voice 2:
We have to remember that he's our stupid sister's son.

Voice 3:
We could kill the one he calls Kacey. He seems to care about her. Of course, we'd make her suffer slowly.

Murdoc turns up the music to block out the noises.

Voice 1:
We are every voice...

Voice 2:
You will ever hear...

Voice 3:
Inside your head.

Three shadows shaped like Wrath, Envy, and Lust appear on the wall behind Murdoc, who opens his eyes and screams in frustration as he throws his phone at the shadows on the wall, causing the phone to break as the shadows disappear. Once they disappear, Murdoc is breathing heavily; Marcus opens the door.

Marcus:
Hey, Rockstar, you mind keeping it down in here?

Murdoc:
They were here.

Marcus:
Your uncles? Then where'd they go?

Murdoc:
That's just it. They somehow invaded my mind. They said they were not only going to kill Kacey, but make her suffer as well.

Marcus:
They're probably just taunting you, trying to get you to snap.

Murdoc:
Regardless, I've gotta warn her about what's coming.

He leaves the room and passes the bathroom.

Olivia (Voice):
Lower, Martin.

Martin Jr (Voice):
Any lower and I won't be scrubbing your back.

Olivia (Voice):
That's the point.

Marcus:
(Overhears; awkwardly) And exit Marcus. (Leaves)

Murdoc runs past him to get to the zeta tube.

Murdoc:
West Residence. I hope I'm not too late.

He arrives at the West Residence; Jinx is in the kitchen, making dinner

AI:
DESIGNATION - CROW

Murdoc appears in the kitchen, and before Jinx can say anything Murdoc quickly approaches her, a look of worry on his face.

Murdoc:
Where's Kacey?

Jinx:
(Putting a pie in the oven) She and Wally aren't home.

Murdoc:
Where are they?! Where?!

Jinx:
Murdoc, what's wrong?

Murdoc:
The Sons of Trigon came to me just now and they said that they're going to hurt your daughter!

Jinx:
You believe them?

Murdoc:
You're not worried about your own daughter?

Jinx:
She's with my husband, and she is strong; I'm sure she'll be fine.

Murdoc:
Still, it wouldn't hurt to have one more on their side. Please, Aunt Jenny! I need to know where they are!

Jinx:
They went out for frosty chocolate milkshakes.

Murdoc:
Where?

Jinx:
At the ice cream shop on the other side of town.

Murdoc:
I'm already there!

He creates a portal and teleports to that location.

Jinx:
The things we do for love.

Stone Residence; meanwhile. Silas is sitting in an armchair, looking through a photo album. The picture he was looking at was the day Jaden was born. Silas smiled, knowing he had a hand in making it possible. He looked at the picture next to it; Cyborg and Karen's wedding day. Going further back in time, Victor Stone in his college days, photos of him and his football team winning the finals. And before all of that, Victor when he was born, and Silas and his wife's wedding day. A tear falls down his face.

Silas:
I'll be reunited with you soon, my love.

Cyborg:
Reminiscing about the past, dad?

Silas:
Yes, son. I just can't believe how fast my life went by. But you know what, despite everything, I wouldn't change a thing about it.

Cyborg:
Your greatest accomplishment was aiding in the construction of Titans Tower. Which still stands proudly in Jump City to this day.

Silas:
There were times it nearly got destroyed.

Cyborg:
But when the smoke cleared it stays standing every single time. No joke, you outdid yourself with the tower, pop.

Silas:
Thanks, son.

He coughs harshly before taking a gulp of air from his oxygen mask.

Silas:
It won't be long now. Son, I just want to thank you for making my last moments the best part of my life.

Cyborg:
It's better to depart happy and surrounded by loved ones.

Jaden and Karen enter the room to see Silas and Cyborg sharing their moment.

Silas:
It's mostly that I managed to modify an alien tower into a teenage superhero headquarters. And I probably wouldn't have achieved that goal without Bruce Wayne.

Cyborg:
Did you know he was Batman before?

Silas:
No but the fact that he gave me money and technology was enough for me. I didn't know he was indirectly helping his son.

Cyborg:
Like you helped me.

Silas:
Yeah. It was also a way to make amends for what I did to you and your mother.

Cyborg:
I didn't realize it at the time but thanks.

Jaden:
Yeah. You gave my father and his friends a place to kick back and relax, and that laid the groundwork for the towers in Coast and Steel City.

Silas:
I haven't done much.

Karen:
You're too modest.

Silas:
I'm just being honest.

Cyborg:
It's a good quality to have.

Silas closes the album.

Silas:
And with that, I've accomplished everything that I've wanted to do.

Central City; meanwhile. Murdoc arrives at the Ice Cream Store.

Murdoc:
Kacey!

He runs out onto the back pavilion.

Murdoc:
Kacey!

Kacey looks up from a table, sucking from a straw.

Kacey:
Murdoc? What are you doing here?

Murdoc:
You're in danger!

Kacey:
From Brainfreeze? Yes. I'm on my fifth milkshake.

Murdoc:
I'm serious! I had a vision and my three evil uncles planned to kill you by making you suffer as slowly as possible! But luckily, I got here before them. Where's your father? He's gotta know about this.

Wally comes outside, carrying two glasses of milkshake.

Wally:
Ready for Round Six, Kacey? Oh, hey Murdoc, what are you doing here?

Murdoc:
Uncle Wally, your daughter is in danger!

Wally:
Yeah, and so am I, of getting a brain freeze.

Murdoc:
This isn't a joke! You'll be tortured by my uncles.

Wally:
Who? The Sons of Trigon? I'm not worried. We sent their butts packing once already.

Behind his smug grin, he was sweating bullets.

Kacey:
Dad, you alright?

Wally:
(Nervously) Never better...it's just really warm out today.

Murdoc:
You know what they're capable of, don't you?

Wally is becoming more and more visibly afraid.

Kacey:
Dad, I've never seen you this afraid.

Murdoc:
Tell us, Uncle Wally, what should we expect?

Wally:
Um, expect dark shit to get real.

Kacey and Murdoc say nothing. They just look at Wally and then at each other, the absolute fear written on their faces. Suddenly, Kacey is lifted up as though possessed.

Wally:
Kacey!

Murdoc:
Babe!

Murdoc:
Uncles, put her down! Now!

Just then, Kacey's eyes roll over white...and Wrath's voice comes out of her mouth.

Wrath/Kacey:
You're forgetting just who's in charge here, Murdoc!

Wally, horrified by what he's seeing, drops the milkshakes and runs towards Kacey.

Wrath/Kacey:
Don't come any closer! Take another step and just see what I do to her!

Murdoc:
Wally, do as he says.

Wally:
What do you want from us?

Wrath/Kacey:
Revenge!

Wally:
My daughter didn't do anything to you freaks! Leave her out of this!

Wrath/Kacey:
It's not up to you. It's up to him. You know what you have to do, Murdoc.

A portal appears; Raven returns, now with Jinx, Zatanna and John Constantine in tow.

Wrath/Kacey:
You again?!

Jinx:
Kacey!

John Constantine:
Well, this doesn't look good at all.

Wally:
(Sarcastically) Brilliant observation skills, dude.

Raven:
Leave her body!

Wrath/Kacey:
Or what?

Raven:
I think you know what Constantine and I are capable of.

Constantine takes a small vial out of his coat pocket.

John Constantine:
You know what this is? It's holy water. One drop of this and you'll be on your knees begging for mercy.

Wrath/Kacey:
(Annoyed and afraid) Holy water!

Wally:
Aw, yeah! The power of Christ compels you, fool!

John Constantine:
Come have a taste.

Wrath/Kacey:
Don't come any closer!

John Constantine:
Then let her go!

Wrath/Kacey:
Fine!

Black smog erupts from Kacey's mouth and Kacey is lowered onto the ground; she collapses.

Murdoc:
Babe!

He runs towards his girlfriend and holds her in his arms. Meanwhile, the smog materializes into Wrath. He disappears.

Murdoc:
(Feeling Kacey's pulse and checking her temperature) She's alive.

Kacey:
Cold... so cold.

Raven:
(To Jinx and Wally) Take her home and put her to bed.

Jinx:
Do you think they'll try and come after her again?

Raven:
Possibly. They will use anyone as leverage to get Murdoc to lower his guard No one is safe. Unless we know where they're going to appear next, I strongly recommend caution. And if you have to go out, don't go alone.

The other five nod in agreement.

John Constantine:
Now that we've established a 'new normal' for now, go back to your homes. The JLD and I will take things from here.

Raven creates a portal to allow Wally and Jinx to take Kacey home and recover.

Murdoc:
Take good care of her, you two.

Jinx:
You have our word, Murdoc.

The Wests walk through the portal and Raven closes it after the three of them step through, leaving just Murdoc, Raven, and John Constantine.

Murdoc:
Thanks, Mama. I don't know how long I can resist them.

Raven:
I told you I was keeping an eye on you. They can try again and again, they will never succeed as long as I am around.

John Constantine:
Yes, yes, very touching.

Raven:
Did you say something, Constantine?

John Constantine:
No.

Stone Residence; meanwhile. Cyborg and Karen are getting Silas comfortable.

Jaden:
How you feeling, gramps?

Silas:
The best I've felt in years. Ironic given my current situation. But I mean it. I can't recall the last time I've felt this happy.

Cyborg:
Anything else you'd like?

Silas:
Other than to be in your company, I think I'm all set.

Karen:
I'm off to bed.

Cyborg:
I'd like to stay down here for a bit with him.

Jaden:
You guys mind if I hang out with you before I turn in?

Cyborg:
Sure son.

Jaden:
Thanks, dad.

Before going upstairs, Karen goes over to Silas and hugs him, knowing that this is the last time she'll ever see her father-in-law alive.

Karen:
(Wipes a tear from her eyes) Thank you, Silas, for everything.

Silas:
The pleasure was all mine, Karen. (Covers his mouth as he lets out a few coughs)

Karen turns around and makes her way to the bedroom. Before she leaves, however, she takes one last look at Silas, her husband, and her son. With that, she sadly walks off to the master bedroom.

Silas:
Life has been a rollercoaster of emotions.

Cyborg:
It usually is.

Silas:
But all in all, it's a ride that I was glad to be a part of.

Cyborg:
And thanks again for the jetpack; it's really come in handy.

Silas:
I'm glad you like it so much.

Jaden:
It really came in handy during our last adventure.

Silas:
Really? What was that like?

Cyborg:
Like hell.

Jaden:
We were taken to, for lack of better words, 'new locations'.

Cyborg:
But what matters is we made it out alive and back to you and all of our friends.

Silas:
That's all that matters. I'm glad you all could be here for me in my final moments. I feel truly blessed to have a son, grandson, and daughter-in-law like you, Jaden, and Karen, Victor.

Overcome with emotion, Cyborg and Jade hug Silas.

Jaden:
We're really going to miss you, grandpa.

Silas:
Don't worry, you boys will see me again. But hopefully not for a very long time.

Cyborg:
Yeah. There's still a lot of work for us to do down here.

Silas:
I know that whatever threat comes your way, you boys and all of your friends will pull through like you always have.

The three of them smile at each other before Silas enters another coughing fit, scaring Jaden and Cyborg.

Silas:
I think...(Cough)...this is it...(Cough)

Jaden:
Definitely. (He yawns) I'd better hit the hay.

When Silas' coughing fit subsides, Jaden gives his grandfather one last hug before he turns in.

Jaden:
I love you, grandad.

Silas:
(Hugs Jaden back and even pats his back) Be good, Jaden.

Jaden leaves; Cyborg stays behind.

Cyborg:
I'm going to stay right by your side until the very end, dad.

Silas:
Thank you, Victor.

Cyborg begins singing 'Close to You' by The Carpenters. As Cyborg sings, tears roll down both his and Silas' face as Silas remembers everything about his and his wife's relationship and marriage, from the day they met to the day he was at her funeral. Cyborg, meanwhile, is remembering every single moment he spent with his father, from the day he was born to the present day. As Cyborg continues to sing, Silas looks out of the corner of his eye to see a glowing, spectral figure approaching him, and only Silas himself can see it...it's his wife Elinore.

Silas:
(Tears flowing down his cheeks) Elinore.

Elinore:
(Holds out her hand) Come on, darling, let's go home.

Silas' soul leaves his body and grabs his wife's hand.

The next morning: Cyborg had fallen asleep in a chair next to Silas' bed. He wakes up and looks at his father's deathbed to see him laying motionless under the sheets.

Cyborg:
Goodbye, dad.

A tear drips down his eye as Karen and Jaden come downstairs.

Jaden:
Is he...you know.

Cyborg:
Yes son. He's gone.

Karen and Jaden walk into the room and hug Cyborg, the three of them sharing a good cry in the process.

Star City Funeral Home; later. The family, their friends, and the people Silas was close with have gathered to farewell him.

Cyborg:
Thank you all so much for coming out today. My father, Silas Stone, was a brilliant man, a loving husband, and a devoted father. He's helped us out more times that any of us could care to count, and I know he appreciates all of us being here right now.

Garfield blows his nose into a handkerchief.

Cyborg:
If it weren't for him, I'd be less than nothing, and our dear Titans Towers wouldn't be standing proud today. Dad, wherever you are, I just want to thank you for everything you've done, and I know your good deeds have rewarded you with eternal paradise where you're by my mom's side. We love you, and we'll miss you, but we will meet again someday.

End of 'Sins of the Grandfather'
