Beca was still walking quickly to her car, her mind reeling in what Chloe told her. "Beca slow down!" Stacie is calling behind her. Beca just ignores her but remembers Stacie is staying with her so she can't just leave the woman behind. Stacie finally caught up to her friend and said, "So what happened that had you racing out of there so quickly."
Beca just opened the car door and got in, Stacie following closely after. Once in the car Beca drove back to her house, wanting nothing more than to be alone. A few minutes go by, and Stacie asks Beca again, "What happened back there Beca?" Releasing a sigh, Beca told Stacie everything.
"Wow, that is a lot to unpack." Stacie said and Beca nodded. There was a long pause before either lady spoke again. They were almost to Beca's house when Stacie makes the comment "makes sense though." Beca looks at her questionably, waiting for her best friend to continue. When she noticed that Stacie wouldn't she pressed "what do you mean?"
"Well, she has been in love with you since our freshman year at Barden. Although I don't think she knew it at the time. But whenever somebody mistaken you both as a couple, your face got red with embarrassment and annoyance, while hers looked panicked. She was always the first to rush out that you were just friends. I bet she was terrified it would get back to her family and she would get beat again." Stacie said as Beca pulled up to her house. The two got out when Beca said, "then why wouldn't she just stay away from me?"
"Beca, you two were best friends, you decided to go with her to New York over going to LA. You both were in love with each other, there was no way in hell anybody could have separated the two of you. If somebody tried to stop you guys from hanging out, I bet you both would have been like Romeo and Juliet. Doing whatever you could to see each other." Stacie replied back.
Beca hadn't realized that was Chloe's reaction when they were asked that question. All she knew is that a part of her on the inside died every time Chloe rushed out to clarify. But she never once thought about why it was rushed. Normally when people make a joke about Chloe, she would laugh at it then reply, but she never did when they joked about us being together.
Beca was just now coming to the realization of everything, her brain was going on overdrive, but then Stacie makes another comment that just sends her mind spiraling. "Remember when you came out to your parents? They might have beat you physically, but you said your dad said some pretty awful things to you."
*Flashback*
Beca remembers the feeling all of a sudden to be rejected by the people who are supposed to love you. She remembers her dad saying she would rot in hell for being bisexual, and how it was such a disappointment to him to have her as a daughter. He told her that she would never be good enough for anybody's love, and nobody would even think about being with her because of the monster she turned out to be.
Tears were welling up Beca's eyes remembering that terrible day. Leslie Beca's mom had been at work so there was nobody there to save her from this berating her dad gave her. When her mom got home, she found Beca curled in a ball in the corner of her room. Cheeks stained with tears, and her husband at the time nowhere in sight. When her mom pressed on the issue Beca wouldn't open it, because it hurt her so deep that she didn't want to think her mom thought the same as her dad. When Beca's dad came home he was drunk and demanded a divorce. He admitted to cheating on Leslie from the beginning and didn't want to be the father to some disgusting creature.
When he stormed out Beca's mom came back to her room, a fresh set of tears flowing down her face. "Beca honey." Leslie pressed quietly, only for Beca to ignore her, "Beca, it isn't your fault who you love. Your dad is a closed-minded idiot, and I am not sure what I ever saw in him." Beca finally looked up at her mom. "I'm glad we are getting a divorce from him so I can make sure nobody ever speaks to you like that again." Leslie said determined.
Beca finally hugged her mom sobbing. A few weeks later her parents were divorced and 13-year-old Beca and her mom moved out of state. They started fresh and her mom was always by her side. Until Beca was 17 in her senior year, and her mom suddenly passed away and she had to go live with her dad. Beca was devastated of the events that were happening, and he informed her that she would attend Barden High.
He also told her if she ever caught her in a relationship with a girl there would be hell to pay. Beca didn't know what he would do but she also didn't want to push his buttons on the matter. But her mom's words flashed in her head "you can love whoever you want Beca. I will always love you just the same, and don't let your father's comments stand in your way of true happiness."
"Beca?" Stacie asked waving a hand over Beca's face and it broke her trance. Beca was full on crying at this point, and it had worried Stacie. "It will be alright Beca I'm here for you." Stacie said as she pulled Beca into a hug. Beca sobbed for what seemed like forever, and when she stopped, she looked at Stacie.
"I was completely fucked up in my head because of my dad. For all the things he said to me and how he made me feel. He never laid a hand on me, but now I can't imagine somebody laying a hand on Chloe. Who would do such a thing, to somebody as nice as her." Beca was now crying for a different reason.
Yes, Chloe has made a shitty decision, and her words cut deep in Beca. There was no excuse for the comments, but she understands. She knows Chloe only did it so she wouldn't be harmed again, and that is what made things worse. Beca thought, 'why didn't Chloe just tell me these things.' It was almost like Stacie could read her mind at that moment.
"Did you ever tell Chloe what happened between you and your dad all those years ago" Stacie asked having an idea already on how Beca would answer. "No, I was too traumatized to bring it open because it still affects me to this day." Beca said and wondering if Chloe didn't tell her for the same reasons. "I bet you Chloe felt the same way, it is a part of her past that really screws with her, and she didn't want you of all people to see that side of her. But now that she has told you what you are going to do about it?" Stacie asked curious if this will bring the two back together or not.
"Honestly Stacieā¦I'm not sure" was all Beca said before she went to her home studio.
