Pulling back some Chisaki stood to his full height once more, towering over Kagome as he glanced down at her. "You'll be staying here for now. Please make yourself at home. We can send for your things later, if you need anything don't hesitate to ask. For now I have to attend to some things." His voice was low, as if he was already bored of the conversation and was ready to be done with this.
Smiling Kagome stepped inside, taking in the sparse furnishings - a narrow bed, a desk, a single chair. No windows, of course. She turned to look at him, smile still in place. "Thank you. Though I'm afraid I don't have any belongings with me. There was an... incident with my moving truck."
Chisaki narrowed his eyes and titled his head lightly as if pondering her words. "Mmm. That's unfortunate, we'll have to fix that at a later date. For now you'll remain here until your background check is complete." Now done with the conversation he shut the left shutting the door behind him before she could say a word.
The sound of it being locked from the outside made Kagome roll her eyes.
As if a mere lock could contain her, but for now she would humor him. Let him think she was some sweet innocent damsel. Pft, Tenko would be laughing his ass off at her if he could see her now. Pretending to be some pure innocent maiden, she hadn't been one of those for years.
Entering the cold clinical room Kagome sank onto the bed, her cheerful facade crumbling. What have I gotten myself into? she wondered. This place is even worse than I imagined. My poor child has been dealing with this all alone…
Hours passed in tense silence before a sharp knock announced a visitor. Kagome's breath caught as Chisaki entered, his presence filling the small room.
"I trust you're settling in well," he said smoothly. "I thought we might take this opportunity to get better acquainted."
Kagome forced a shy smile. "Of course, Chisaki-san. I appreciate you taking the time."
He settled into the chair, golden eyes boring into her. "Tell me about your family, Kagome. Your upbringing."
She launched into the backstory Giran had crafted, watching Chisaki's reactions carefully. His gaze never left her face as she spoke of a modest childhood, diligent studies, and a recent move to Tokyo.
"And your quirk?" he prompted. "You mentioned time control abilities."
Kagome nodded. "Yes, though I'm still learning to control it fully. I'm able to speed up and slow down aging of objects. Though sometimes if I get too emotional I lose control and it affects the things around me without me touching it directly. I can't affect animals or people."
"Fascinating," Chisaki murmured. His gloved hand reached out, fingers brushing her arm. "And your romantic entanglements? Surely a woman like yourself has many admirers."
He's testing me, Kagome realized, noting the predatory gleam in his eyes. She lowered her gaze demurely. "No, I'm not involved with anyone. I've been focused on my career."
A flicker of satisfaction crossed Chisaki's face. He leaned closer, removing a glove to trace her cheek. Kagome fought not to flinch at his touch.
No hives, Chisaki marveled inwardly. No revulsion. How... intriguing.
For her part, Kagome didn't miss the hunger kindling in his gaze. Perfect, she thought. I can use this.
"You're quite remarkable, Kagome," Chisaki purred. "I look forward to working closely with you."
As he left, Kagome released a shaky breath. She'd passed this first test, but knew the real challenge was just beginning. Chisaki clearly wanted her - and she'd have to walk a dangerous line to use that desire to her advantage. No matter how much the very thought of it disgusted her.
