"I am here on orders from Princess Renner to see her gentlemen. I have a letter right here" Naruto said producing said note he was given
"I understand that however the princess did not specify for any extra guests Sir Menma. I'm afraid your entourage will need to wait outside the palace" one of the guards said
"Tch how insulting. Perhaps this is a waste of time sir" Nabe said with a scoff
"No, it's quite understandable. Nabe, Samui explore the capital. Perhaps you will find something interesting here for use in the future" Naruto said as the guards let Naruto through into the palace.
Naruto was led by a servant through the halls of the grandiose palace until they came to a room. The servant knocked on it
"Enter" a female voice said on the other side before the door opened
"Princess Renner, I have brought Sir Menma Namikaze as requested" The servant said with a bow as Naruto looked into the room to see several females.
One a woman with blonde hair draped in finery and a light blue dress and a golden necklace. A kind smile on her face. Clearly this was the princess.
And something about that smile just sent alarm bells through Naruto's head. Something about that kind look just seemed fake. Like a mask for an actor.
The others in the room included a short woman in red robes wearing a white mask standing in the corner. Naruto could just feel something familiar about her. Something inhuman that he had felt before.
Others in the room were twin females dressed exactly alike as kunoichi with long blonde hair tied in ponytails though had red accents on her uniform and hair ties while the other had blue accents and hair ties.
There was also a tall, muscled woman in heavy crimson plate armor with short blonde hair staring at him with a feral grin.
Lastly was the final woman that Naruto admitted other than the one that felt inhuman probably was the one he focused on the most. A woman with long blonde hair wearing a set of white armor with red and blue garment underneath. In his eyes her beauty outshined the princess even. But what truly caught his attention about her was the sword on her back. A large black blade with a red handle.
"So you're this Menma guy huh?" The muscled woman asked with a grin at Naruto as he entered
"Indeed I am. And may I ask who you all are? I was unaware of meeting anyone aside from the princess" Naruto asked as he entered the room while the servant shut the door behind them.
"You don't know us?" One of the kunoichi asked with a quirked eyebrow. Everyone always knew who they were as one of two famous Adamantite adventurer groups
"I am not, unfortunately. I am an outlander to these parts and while I have been making a home of this land and working as an adventurer much knowledge of this land escapes my notice" Naruto explained cordially. He did not wish to offend of course
"It's alright. It's actually a bit of a nice change of pace to not be so well known for once." The woman with the black blade said "We are the Adamantite adventurer team known as Blue Roses. I'm Lakyus Alvein Dale Aindra" she introduced herself with a smile "these are my teammates, Gagaran, Tina, Tia, and Evileye" Lakyus said pointing to each member as she listed them
"A pleasure to make your acquaintances," Naruto said with a bow of greeting.
"Ah none of that formal crap with us newbie" Gagaran said with a chuckle at Naruto waving it off
"Indeed I do not require bowing from you. Please have a seat and join us. Would you care for some tea?" Renner offered the golden armored adventurer with her fake smile. Not wanting to be rude, Naruto nodded as he sat down while a tea cup was placed before him after Renner filled it.
Naruto looked at the tea using some magic in his eyes hidden by his helmet to check to make sure it wasn't altered or poisoned in some way. Upon examining it and determining no such thing he canceled the magic in his eyes while applying his human form and made to remove his helmet. Before taking a sip
"Ooh hot stuff" Gagaran said smirking at the warrior while Lakyus blushed at his handsome face
"Thank you for the compliment and the tea. Now may I ask why you needed my presence?" Naruto asked kindly
"Yes I had heard of your exploits and mission successes. Including your victory against an undead army at E-Rantel's cemetery amongst others. Your name is becoming widely known amongst adventurers and royalty alike. And yet you are only a Mithril rank adventurer" Renner said calmly as she drank her own tea
"Well I have been trying to find jobs that can help me Increase in rank and reputation. I do seek to become promoted after all" Naruto responded as he took a sip of tea
"Respectable. However Lakyus and I have been discussing bringing you and your team in for a mission of sorts. One under wraps as we are always looking for new allies in our mission" Renner told him as she placed her tea cup down
"Oh? What sort of mission?" Naruto asked curiously
"We'll tell you after the spar" Evileye said looking at Naruto
"Spar?" Naruto asked raising an eyebrow inquisitively at this
"Yes. A test of your abilities. You are still a Mithril rank adventurer and there are not that many adamantite level adventurers which we need for this job. The best way to determine if you can help us is to test your abilities. If your skills are not up to par then we would have no need for you for this mission." Evileye told him with a firm tone
'Ah testing to see if i can actually hold up to a new rank or if my skills are capped where they are. Understandable.' Naruto thought to himself
"You will spar with one of the Blue Roses and should you prove yourself worthy in their eyes I will allow you to assist with our mission and I will tell your guild to promote you to Adamantite rank. If you do not prove yourself to them I will at the very least pay you for the time you have spent here" Renner told him with a smile
'Makes sense. If I can't keep up with them then I wouldn't be worth using for the mission. There's no real downside to this deal. Either way I'm either promoted or compensated monetarily' Naruto thought to himself
"Very well. I accept your terms. Who shall I be sparring against?" Naruto asked as he nodded
"I believe Gagaran should-" Evileye was saying before Lakyus held up her hand
"I will be your opponent Sir Menma" Lakyus declared looking at Naruto with a firm look and tone of voice
"Huh? I thought we agreed I'd test him Lakyus?" Gagaran asked raising an eyebrow at this
"Yeah, since when do you agree to this type of thing?" Tia asked curiously
"I have interest in seeing how skilled he is first hand myself. And if he can keep up with me then he will surely prove his worth. Don't you agree?" Lakyus asked her team
"I have no qualms with this. If I'm to earn a promotion in rank I should prove myself. To be the best you must beat the best. I accept the terms Lakyus Alvein Dale Aindra" Naruto declared as he nodded in response
"We should take this spar somewhere else. There's a clearing outside the capital where we can test you" Tina said looking at Naruto as he put back on his helmet
"Lead the way" Naruto said as he stood up
"I would love to see your spar but I have business to attend to. I shall be looking forward to hearing the results of your spar, however" Renner said, smiling kindly as the group left the room and made their way out of the palace.
As the group started to exit the palace they saw a knight approaching in pure white plate armor with short blonde hair and blue eyes
"Well well how you doing Cherry boy?" Gagaran asked with a grin as the knight shuffled nervously
"Heh hello Lady Gagaran" the knight greeted a bit nervously around the mass of muscle
"Hello Climb. Princess Renner is in her quarters. We have a spar to get to" Lakyus said as they started to continue on as Naruto passed by the now named Climb looking him over
'A noble hearted one it seems. And hard working too it seems. Perhaps he and I will cross paths fully one day' Naruto thought to himself as he could tell the young man had just come from a training session given the sweat on his brow
(outside the capital)
In the clearing Naruto walked over to one side while Lakyus stood on the other side.
"What are the terms of this spar?" Naruto asked as he pulled off his greatswords
"I believe first to knock out their opponent or if their opponent concedes is appropriate" Lakyus said as he pulled off her black blade from her back
"Very well. I agree." Naruto said as Tia stepped forward between them with their hand raised
"On my mark you may begin. Three, two, one, fight!" Tia yelled as she dashed away. It seemed she picked the opportune moment to do so as immediately Lakyus used her speed enhanced by her Cloak of Rat speed to dash at Naruto and slash her black blade at him. Naruto however blocked the strike, raising one of his greatswords to stop her attack.
"Not bad I almost didn't see you," Naruto said with an audible smirk behind his helmet before he used his strength to push Lakyus off of him. The female knight leapt away from him in a backflip landing back on her own two feet
"Impressive defense. But you need more than strong defense to defeat a foe" Lakyus told him
"I agree" Naruto said as he appeared behind Lakyus and slammed his broadsword down towards her before she quickly jumped to the side barley avoiding the blade as it slammed into the ground making a crater in the ground
'What?! I didn't even see him move?!" Lakyus and the rest of Blue Roses thought to themselves wide eyed at the display of speed. He was wearing heavy armor so how could he move that fast. And it didn't even seem like he used a job skill or anything to increase his speed and strength.
This was purely his own speed and power. No buffs or magic enhancement.
"Shall we continue our dance my dear?" Naruto asked as he effortlessly picked up his blade from the crater in the ground and held it up ready to continue their battle
"I'll admit I'm impressed. However don't let the fact you have exceptional power make you think I won't give this my all. Floating swords!" Lakyus declared as the 6 swords on her back suddenly flew off and started floating into the air above her before all 6 shot at Naruto to impale him.
"A magic item? Quite impressive. Perhaps I should show what I'm capable of myself then" Naruto declared as he held up both his greatswords and they suddenly started to spark with flames
"Magic?!" Gagaran asked surprised as she didn't expect those blades to cast some type of elemental damage
"Let's see if your floating swords can handle this. Searing Slash!" Naruto yelled sending a cross cut slash with both his swords which sent a wave of flames at the oncoming flying swords. The force of the flaming slash sent all 6 swords careening off course form their intended target as Lakyus watched in shock at her attack being blocked.
"You're mine now!" Naruto yelled as he leapt at her with both blades while she was distracted intent to bring down both swords on her. If not for all 6 floating swords and her own black blade to stop in front of her to mitigate the force of the strike. Even with 7 swords blocking his two the force of the attack made the ground under her crack as another crater formed beneath her feet.
"Impressive. Using your swords for defensive reinforcement since your attack proved futile. I must admit you are quite cunning my dear. However this is still my victory in the end" Naruto declared
"Don't get so full of yourself Menma. You're strong but it takes more than that to win a battle" Lakyus told him as she continued trying to hold him back with her many blades
"Oh I agree. But you're in a compromised position against me. After all you're surrounded by metal" Naruto told her as his blades started to generate lightning. "Stormblades!" Naruto yelled as bolt after bolt of lightning shot off his blade and hit into the ones Lakyus was using for defense. And transferred between each one as if they were lightning rods until they hit her and her armor. The sparks hit Lakyus, making her grit her teeth in pain as the overwhelming lightning kept striking her.
"Lightning and fire magic? What is he?" Evil Eye asked with a calculating gaze from behind her mask.
"Do you concede?" Naruto asked as he kept up the pressure
"This isn't enough to stop me" Lakyus declared. Despite the pain and the lightning hitting her nerves she would not back down. She would not surrender.
"Admirable my dear. Let me get serious then" Naruto declared grinning from behind his mask as the lightning coming off his swords tripled in intensity. Even changing color from blue to purple "Unrelenting Storm!" Naruto yelled as the lightning hitting Lakyus made the adamantite adventurer scream in pain at this as she fell to her knees. Still struggling to fight on as she shakily held up her black blade still trying to push him back with her seven swords.
"Lakyus surrender before you get hurt even more!" Tina yelled wide eyed at the power Naruto was letting off
"N-no I can still do th-" Lakyus was saying as she struggled to keep her eyes open and fight but-
Klang!
Naruto's armored leg slammed into her gut making her keel over and fall to the ground
"Sorry my dear but I'm ending this now before you get seriously hurt" Naruto told her as he stopped channeling lightning through his swords and sheathed them before kneeling down to check on her.
"I-I can still fight" Lakyus wheezed out trying to stand up
"Your will and drive are admirable but a true warrior must know when to concede. Sometimes you must retreat to find a way to beat an opponent later on." Naruto told her as he pulled out a healing potion and placed it at her mouth "drink up, your nerves are probably too hurt by my lightning to move your body parts" Naruto told her as he helped her drink down the healing potion before turning to the rest of Blue Roses "shall we bring her back to the palace to recover?" Naruto asked Lakyus team
"Y-yes we should inform the princess of the results anyways" Tina stuttered out still wide eyed at the clash the two had. Even without going for lethal strikes the two had quite a lot of power. And the fact Naruto outmatched their leader spoke volumes.
He was clearly Adamantite level. Maybe even stronger if that was possible.
"Indeed I'll help you take her back then" Naruto told them as he lifted Lakyus into a bridal carry making the cleric blush at his actions. It was bad enough he fed her a potion when she was unable to move. But this was even more embarrassing. She was an Adamantite adventurer not some damsel in distress
"Are you blushing Lakyus?" Gagaran asked smirking at the red face of Lakyus as Naruto lifted her up
"N-no. Why would I?" Lakyus asked trying to calm herself at this predicament
"Aww don't feel bad about it girl. I bet it feels great to be in the arms of a big, strong, handsome adventurer that proved his strength by beating you" Gagaran teased her even more making Lakyus sputter while her teammates chuckled at this
"Ah, your team seems fun. I hope to work with you all someday soon" Naruto told them with a grin under his helmet as he helped carry Lakyus back to the palace
(Nazarick. A day later)
A lot had happened after his spar with Lakyus. First after his spar was told by the group by order of the princess he was granted the rank of adamantite as word of his spar with Lakyus and his victory was spread throughout The kingdom. The fact Lakyus herself even admitted her defeat against him made any naysayers to his promotion shut up. Not that there were many to begin with.
After that he was brought aside by Lakyus and Renner to discuss what they needed his assistance with and why he needed to prove himself.
Taking down the Eight fingers crime syndicate. Which Naruto immediately agreed to assist with. Especially since he revealed he had been planning to fight them anyways
Plus this would be easy for him considering he had a mole in the organization. And even more information with Death's hand now in her shadow absorbing information.
Renner and Lakyus told him they would contact him when he was needed for assistance so in the meantime, Nabe, and Samui were back in Nazarick to rest and recuperate. It seemed their look around the kingdom capital didn't gain them much information barring some political insight on how the royal family was perceived by certain loose talking nobles.
As he sat on his throne pondering, his thoughts were interrupted as Albedo came into his throne room and bowed to him.
"My lord. I have vital information that must be shared with you" Albedo told him
"oh? What is it?" Naruto asked as he raised a eyebrow at Albedo
"I'm afraid to inform you according to Solution, Sebas it seems has gone rogue, and may have betrayed you and by extension all of Nazarick" Albedo told him as she kept her head bowed
Naruto's eyes narrowed at this reveal as this was nor something he wanted to hear as even before his new life he didn't react well to possible betrayal
