Quality Time
It was a Saturday early in the morning, the sun was raising slowly but steady above a London park and people and dogs were just now walking into it, to have a great time.
Through the bars a dalmatian came in walking slowly, very contradictory to what she would normally do in any other day, she arrived to an empty and wide zone of the park, and then, after searching with her gaze for a bit she laid down in the floor, waiting.
"I hope he doesn't take long" Dolly thought while sighing as she rested her eyes for a bit.
As she rested, a memory rushed back to her mind, it was still fresh and it was about her brother asking for something very insistently.
"It was monday by the noon when her brother took her away from the other dalmatians to ask her that odd favour
'Could you think about it a little more please?' Said Dylan to his sister begging with his front paws.
'No brother, what you're asking for is… Just impossible' Answered Dolly.
'Oh! Come on Dolly, it will be just a couple of minutes, I really would like your help with this' Dylan begged even more.
'No, means no' Dolly answered."
"That was the Monday" Dolly thought as she remembered the tuesday.
"Tuesday in the morning as everyone sat at the table to have their breakfast Dylan stopped her before getting into the dining room.
'Well? Did you think about that sis?' His brother asked very suddenly.
'What?!' She answered surprised.
'What I told you yesterday. Did you think about it well?' Dylan insisted.
Dolly just made an angry face and proceeded to ignore Dylan"
"And let's not forget about the Wednesday" Dolly thought as she stretched and turned around to face the sky.
"Wednesday in the night Dylan went to her room to wake her up.
'Dolly, Dolly' He gently shook the dalmatian.
'Auuughh let me sleep, I'll wash the bowls tomorrow' She muttered between dreams.
Dylan went out, but when Dolly woke up she found in front of her a card which had written 'Please' on it, and by the side a biscuit in the shape of a bone"
"Although, I got to admit that he was very persistent the thursday" She whispered to herself.
"Thursday in every moment he could, Dylan would simply say 'Please' to her sister, during the breakfast, while cleaning, even in the nap time"
"Finally, the Friday Dolly got enough of him
'Enough!' She barked just as her brother was barely close, he didn't even spoke a thing. 'If I agree to what you asked for would you leave me alone?!' She asked, pretty much annoyed.
'Emmm, actually I was going to ask if you could help me clean the disaster the puppies leaved in the living room' Said Dylan 'You know, broke toys, dirt everywhere'
'Oh! That' Growled back the dalmatian, still annoyed.
'Listen, I'm sorry if I bothered you with that all week but' Dylan started to mumble a bit ashamed.
'Ahhhggg…' Dolly complained. 'Why does this mean to much for you?' She asked the dalmatian and while irritated she turned her back.
The backyard fell into silence for a while, until Dylan broke it.
'Can I be honest?' he whispered low. 'I really would like to spend some quality time, with you' He answered as he tried to avoid her gaze turning his head to a side. 'You know? I don't think you're insufferable all the time' He spoke before the silence came back to the backyard.
'Tomorrow in the park' Said Dolly without turning around. 'Be there early. Ok?' She finished as she entered to the house."
And here she was now, waiting for his brother while a feeling she didn't wanted to admit grew inside her.
"What are his real intentions?" The dalmatian thought bothered "I would actually help him?" She questioned herself. "What if I just go and leave him?" She again questioned herself. "And what if he…?" She was thinking when a familiar voice took her away from her thoughts.
"Morning Dolly" Her brother greeted her as he walked to her side.
"Morning bro" She greeted back very stiff while she turned around to stand up.
"I'm glad you accepted sis, I…" He was starting to talk before Dolly interrupted him.
"Yeah well, make it quick" She suddenly said. "Ok, now get on" the dalmatian commanded her brother.
"Ahmmm, I…" Dylan was a bit nervous.
"Your front paws first, so you can hold on your balance" Dolly said.
"Oh right!" Dylan answered as he listened to her.
"You're ready?" Asked Dolly a bit nervous while a lot of questions where getting to her mind. She heard her brother swallowing up.
"Yeah" Dylan answered while pushing himself weakly.
"What was that?" Asked Dolly with sarcasm while covering her snout trying not to laugh.
"Well, I'm just…." Dylan tried to talk but.
"You barely made it a few centimeters" Dolly reproached him.
"Well I"
In that moment Dolly pushed her brother with a little bit of malice.
"WHHHAAAA!" Dylan screamed as he tried to control his balance to not fall off the skateboard, he made a turn and just made it into a half pipe where he was making his every effort not to fall.
In that moment Dolly finally gave up and laid on the floor with a sigh; her brother apparently made it well in the half pipe.
"YUUUJJUUU" Dylan shouted having fun. "Look Dolly I made it!"
"Yes, you made it…" She whispered back with bitterness, and in that very moment the question she couldn't make to herself rushed back to her mind. "And what if he is better than me?" She told to herself while feeling a bit blue by the attention her brother could take from her. "Did he make it on purpose?" She thought.
However, while Dylan was trying to make one of the tricks his sister always did, he lost the balance and fell down a few meters close to Dolly.
"He he he" The dalmatian giggled as she stood up. "Or maybe I'm worrying too much" She thought a bit relieved.
Dylan stood up suddenly and give her sister a smile, she still embittered asked him.
"This is for impress a lady isn't it?"
"What? No!" Dylan answered surprised.
"Then why that urgency to want to ride the skate?" Dolly inquired him.
"Well, I…" He babbled before being interrupted by his sister.
"Did you want to take my friends away from me?!" Dolly finally shouted, letting out that feeling that was by her side since the monday when Dylan asked her for it.
"Is not that Dolly, is just that"
Finally Dolly turned her back trying to pretend not listening him; Dylan looked down and spoke.
"Look, I know that you and I are fighting constantly, and that's our way to be as siblings" He hesitated for a moment searching for the right words. "We bo-both love each other but we'll never gonna admit it, I know and we both are happy with it… It's just…" Dylan fell silent for a moment waiting for his sister to turn around. She did, but some little tears were coming out of her eyes. "Well, I kind of miss a bit those days when we were puppies. You know? Those days when we didn't fight so often" The dalmatian said "I really just… Wanted to have some quality time, together" Dylan finished his speak with an ashamed smile.
Dolly jumped herself to hug her brother, getting rid of that hideous feeling that accompanied her, and realizing that she, sort of, also missed those simpler days.
"I'm sorry bro, I, I was feeling a bit jealous. You know?" She cried as some tears flood her eyes.
"I know"
After that Dolly finally joined his brother in the skateboard, showing him some simple tricks, and shouting for the emotion.
"Bow Wacka Wow!" In each jump they both did together.
Oh well! They did have fun that saturday morning; but nonetheless when they came back to the house, playing "Poodlewolf" was apparently not as boring as before.
The end.
