The Protectors were stealthily maneuvering their way into the cold, forbidding expanse of Stars' End—a notorious supermax space prison. Perched on a desolate moon, it floated in a vast sea of void, far removed from any star systems, making it an ideal hideaway for those who sought to imprison the galaxy's most dangerous criminals. However, it was not as concealed as it seemed; whispers of a prisoner known only as Prisoner 1.11 had reached The Protectors, hinting that he possessed valuable information regarding the elusive Darth Maul.
As they approached the grim façade of the facility, the team commenced their ascent, employing the scrambling techniques they had honed during the Clone Wars to evade detection by security scanners. Rex took the lead, expertly utilizing the grappling accessories affixed to his blaster, deftly maneuvering up the side of the formidable structure. Each movement was calculated and precise, reflecting his extensive training and experience.
Cheep soared upward, his mechanical legs equipped with advanced thrusters, propelling him effortlessly toward the heights of the facility. Peter, harnessing his extraordinary powers, effortlessly climbed with agility and grace, cutting through the cold atmosphere of the moon. Meanwhile, Kate skillfully launched her grapple arrow, the line securing her ascent as she navigated the rugged terrain with determination.
Kyle, ever the resourceful ally, was assisting Amber, who struggled with climbing. Using his Mandalorian grappling hook, he expertly secured her ascent, ensuring they both advanced safely. The team worked in unison, each member playing a crucial role in their mission.
"Times like this that I wished I had a jetpack," Kyle groaned.
As they scaled the imposing structure, the oppressive silence of the dead moon surrounded them, reminding them of the peril that lay ahead. They donned face masks to filter the stale, thin air—essential protection in the lack of atmosphere. While the proximity of the nearby sun provided some warmth, it was the masks that allowed them to breathe easily, enabling their focus on the task at hand: breaking into the heart of the facility and finding out the information Prisoner 1.11 knows about Maul.
"Alright, guys, up here," Peter said, gesturing to a small scanner on the outside. "Our Knowhere contact said that this should get us in."
"How well do we trust this contact?" Kate asked as she and the others reached a perch.
"Well enough," Peter said, using the scanner to try and get inside.
That was when the scanner beeped, indicating it did its work. But when it did, the perch and the others were opened, and a giant wave of water and filth splashed and washed over the crew. Luckily they weren't washed over and ended up only getting drenched.
"Oh, whoops," Peter said when he saw his team drenched in water. "Sorry, guys. The details weren't much clear."
They made their way inside the prison using the sewer grate. It wasn't the most sanitary way of breaking in, but it was the only way they could with the high-tech facility.
"Ugh, I can still smell this place even with the mask," Amber gagged from the smell.
Peter then heard something, getting him to raise his hand to silence everyone. Looking upward, they watched as Stormtroopers marched past. They watched the routine of the guards for a day or two before beginning their approach.
"Alright, standard troops," Peter said as he gestured for Kate and Rex. "You guys know the plan."
Kate and Rex nodded as Kate drew a smoke arrow and quickly aimed it through the grate they were standing under. Shooting upward, the arrow embedded into the ceiling and released a gas. That gave Rex the opening to then come through the grate and open fire, using stun so as to not draw attention to their location.
"How long until they are noticed to be missing?" Rex asked as the others joined.
"We've got about thirty minutes, so let's get going," Peter said as they headed down the hall. "Oh, Cheep, grab that key."
Cheep bleeped in annoyance as he rolled back and grabbed the keycard off of one of the troopers. One of the troopers groaned, getting Cheep to spin and smack him upside the head.
As he was rolling, a Mouser droid came up and noticed him. The Mouser bleeped and whistled, getting Cheep to beep back, then moved to knock into him. The mouser squealed and ran off.
Cheep laughed and spun in victory.
Peter made it to the doorway, waiting for Cheep who whistled and made his way over towards the group. Cheep handed it over to Peter.
"Took you long enough, buddy," Peter said. "Come on, we-"
That was when alarms started to blare, getting them worried. "How are they onto us so soon?!" Kyle asks.
Cheep realized his mistake and whistled in worry.
"You did what?!" Kate asked in anger.
"Cheep, when this is over, we are going to have words!" Peter proclaimed. "For now, let's just-" opening the doorway, they were met with a dozen troops. "Oh, shit!"
The troopers immediately began to open fire as they ran over and ducked for cover behind some of the crates and dodged the blaster fire coming from the troopers. Kyle raised up and shot several times to take down the troops coming in. But the more that they shot down, the more that they fought, the more that kept coming.
"We've gotta get through before reinforcements arrive!" Rex warned them.
"This isn't the reinforcements?!" Amber asks.
"We're kinda a hot item for the Empire!" Kate said, shooting out another arrow with small explosions.
"Don't worry, I got something," Peter said, revealing to have a small grenade. "Hold it! Back up and let us leave, or we will all be blown to bits!"
"Are you crazy?" Kyle asked in terror. "That's one of my experimental weapons."
"Really?" Peter asks. "That makes this better."
"You're bluffing," The trooper scoffed.
"Am I?" Peter dared, preparing to activate it.
"You better be, that thing has enough boom to take out this entire quadrant of the building," Kyle stated.
"Works for me," Peter said, activating the bomb, and showing the timer. "You've got thirty seconds!" They weren't letting up. "Twenty-"
Kyle took the bomb and tossed it over to them. "54321!" He cried, the timer apparently not working properly. "Get down!"
The bomb went off, taking an entire side of the building with it. And many other troopers with the bomb.
"Whoa..." Kate said, seeing the explosion.
"You had that... in our ship?" Rex asked Kyle.
"Where else am I gonna experiment? I'm a Mandalorian, we live for danger," Kyle stated.
"Come on!" Peter said, gesturing towards the hallways. "We gotta go!"
They ran down to a specific corridor where they held the most dangerous criminals and opened the doorway. They entered the room and saw someone dangling over a vial with ferocious fish inside.
"Wow, this guy must be some scary dude," Amber said.
"Who is this guy?" Rex wonders.
"Let's find out," Peter said, seeing someone dangling in chains. He shot out a web and began to drag him over towards them. "Are you Prisoner 1.11?"
"Oh, who needs formalities like that?" A strong accent asked, causing them to gasp. They recognized that voice anywhere.
"You!?" Kate, Rex, and Peter cried seeing the faces of none other than...
"Hondo Ohnaka!"
The pirate/smuggler laughed when he saw their faces. "Oh, it is so good to see you again, my friends!" He then laughed when he saw the people who came to his rescue. "Look at you! I hear that you are all pirates of your own! Oh, I am so proud!"
"More like guns for hire," Kyle admitted with a shrug, getting looks from everyone. "What? Just saying. Aren't we?"
"We're more outlaws and heroes at the same time," Peter shrugged. "Heroes to the people, outlaws to the Empire. Simple as that."
"Wait, who is this guy?" Amber asks as she looks at Cheep. "You know this guy?"
Cheep shrugged.
"This is Hondo Ohnaka, a pirate. A pain in the ass during the Clone Wars," Peter proclaimed.
"Sold us Coult Doku just to turn around and try to sell Anakin and Kenobi to the Separatists," Kate remembered.
"Oh, you flatter me!" Hondo said.
"So, we are really going to break this guy out?" Kate asked Peter. "He will just-"
"We need information on Maul," Peter reminded them and turned towards Hondo. "You have any?"
"Oh, that is what you came here for," Hondo put together. "The cargo."
"Cargo?" Rex asked in confusion. "What cargo?!"
"My crew and I were in the middle of procuring some sort of crate from Aaloth," Hondo explained.
"Aaloth?" Amber asked in surprise. "That's an Outer Rim planet."
"How do you know that?" Kate asks.
"I read a lot of the archives in my spare time," Amber shrugged. "It was once occupied by the Sith Empire. So, if there was something out there-"
"Some sort of Old Republic weapons or relics could have been hidden out there," Peter was following what she was saying. "What was it? Where is it, Hondo? Where was he supposed to meet you?"
"I would be glad to show you," Hondo said, looking up towards the ceiling and down towards the waters below. "After you get me out of here."
"I should have seen that coming," Kate said with a sigh. She then drew her sword and spun it around, preparing to use it. "Alrighty, let's get this over with."
With a quick slice, the sword he managed to cut straight through the chains holding Hondo up. He let out a shriek as he began to fall downward. That was followed by Peter shooting a web to latch to his foot and pull him up.
"Just so we are clear if you try to double-cross us, we will throw you into space the first chance we get," Peter warned him. "Or turn you over to the hundreds of people who likely have a bounty on your head."
"Oh, I couldn't be more proud," Hondo said with pride as he was being dragged.
"There they are!" Someone cried, getting them to look over and see troops. They were beginning to be opened fire upon, getting the Protectors to duck and find a place for cover. "Don't let them escape!"
Kate drew a splinter arrow, causing it to blast off into three separate arrows that flew off and impaled three troops using their weak spots in the armor. They went down, and a few more stepped through the doorway, followed by Kyle standing up to open fire with Rex.
"We've gotta get out of here!" Rex said.
"Not without him!" Peter stated, shooting a web to latch Hondo and yanking him over to them.
"Whoa-hoagh!" Hondo cheered as he was then released from the chains. "Ooh, does this mean I get a weapon?"
"I wouldn't trust you with sand!" Peter stated, shooting a few strands to then yank the troopers out of hiding. "Guys!"
"On it!" Kyle cried, quickly finishing the last of them off.
"Amber?" Peter called.
Amber quickly sped into the hallway and looked down both paths, quickly looking and seeing the clear hall. "Let's go!"
Everyone ran down the hallway while following Hondo. They ran down to the locker rooms where Peter punched the doorway down easily. Hondo laughed as he entered the room and began to search around.
"Where is it? Where is it?" Hondo asks, quickly opening a locker and finding what he is looking for. "Ah, there it is!" He quickly grabbed his hat from the locker, placing it on his head. "I was worried they smugged it."
"Hondo!" Kate called out. "Where's the package?"
"Oh, right," Hondo quickly raced towards another locker and searched. He found some loose credits and pocketed them for later use. He then began to look and pulled out a box. "Here ya are." He then tossed the box and tapped it. "Uh, oh." He then opened the box and saw it was empty. "Well, it seems someone has swindled off with Hondo's treasure!"
"Any idea who or where?" Kate asks.
"Remember, your answer depicts if we take you or leave you here," Kyle warns him.
"Ah, but of course, Hondo knows how to ensure of his bounty," Hondo laughs. "I hid a frequency tracker inside the device."
"Okay, that's a start," Peter said. "We get back to the Stellar Sentinal, and you tell us the frequency."
"And how dare tell do you suppose we get out of here?" Kate asks.
Kyle cleared his throat, getting them to look and see he was holding another grenade like the one thrown earlier. "How about we make our own exit?"
The explosion from the device was ginormous, taking the entire roof with it, allowing everyone to leap with their grapples attached to the building allowing them to run down the building wall. Hondo screamed as Peter carried him down as they ran down the side of the building.
"Whoa!" Hondo cried as they fell.
They reached the ground and ran, they were being fired upon, but they were too far away for the Clones to make any sort of hit on them. They ran to the Stellar Sentinal and then took off into the skies, leaving a giant thrust from the engine that caused the clones around to be flung backward.
As they were flying off into space, Moonage Daydream was being played over the speakers of the ship. Hondo was looking around the ship while he was being led to the front, everyone keeping eyes on him to ensure that he didn't try anything funny and try to take something.
"This is a nice ship, yeah," Hondo commented as he looked around.
"Alright, Hondo, input the frequency to the ship's tracer so we can find the tracker," Peter told him.
"Right, yes, I will do just that," Hondo said as he walked over to the controls.
"And if you try anything, we will throw you," Kate warned him.
Hondo gasped as he turned back at them. "You think for me to be so untrustworthy?"
Everyone gave him an annoyed look. "Yes."
"I am hurt!" Hondo said, quickly getting over it. "But... fair is fair."
Pinpointing the tracker into their systems, they saw that it was in the Kessel system. It was an isolated star system located within the galaxy surrounded by a cluster of asteroids.
"Well, this may be easy or even more difficult," Kate warned them, pulling up a map of the system. "The transmission is coming from within the asteroid field."
"Any idea where they are heading?" Peter asks.
"If I had to guess... looks like they are on a direct course for Oba Diah." Rex took an educated guess.
"The Pykes," Peter groaned. "Of course."
"Maul must be going to meet up with them once they confirm they have the package." Peter made a guess. "Okay, we need to get inside. Anyone got any ideas?"
"I can keep us hidden," Kyle offered. "Fly us among the asteroids to not be detected on their scanners."
"Okay, then I will sneak aboard, Kate, you man the guns with Rex, Amber, and I-"
"Hold up," Hondo stopped their plan. "I know how to steal from a thief," He stated as he walked over and laughed. "We can do this together. Me and the Spider-Boy!"
"Uh, yeah, I don't think so," Kate stated. "I don't trust him."
"Yeah, but he also knows if he is caught, it's back to the prison, or the nearest person who has a bounty on his head," Peter proclaimed. "It does make sense to drag an outlaw who knows how to steal. We'll do it his way."
As the Stellar Sentinel emerged from the vastness of hyperspace, it gracefully navigated through the perilous labyrinth of the asteroid field. The ship, a Sarisa-class gunship, was on a crucial voyage back to Oba Diah. Its hull glinted softly as it maneuvered between the colossal, jagged rocks that floated silently in space.
Once the Stellar Sentinel positioned itself within striking distance, Peter and Hondo braced themselves at the open cargo bay doors, their eyes scanning the darkness ahead. "So, what's the plan?" Hondo shouted over the roar of the engines, a mix of anticipation and urgency in his voice.
"This is the plan," Peter replied decisively, his finger hovering over a button on the control panel. With a quick press, the ship descended, landing with a metallic thud and securely latching onto the hull of the docked vessel. The moment the Stellar Sentinel made contact, an alarm blared, a shrill warning that echoed through the ship and alerted the Pykes onboard to the imminent threat of intruders. "Run!"
With adrenaline surging, Hondo and Peter leaped from their ship, their bodies propelled by the urgency of the moment. They darted through the shimmering ray shield that separated the two vessels, finesse and determination guiding their movements. As blaster fire erupted around them, Kyle expertly worked the controls of the Stellar Sentinel, skillfully piloting them back into the heart of the asteroid field, using its treacherous terrain to shake off their pursuers.
Peter and Hondo, now aboard the enemy ship, fell into silence, their hearts racing as they slipped into the shadows. They moved cautiously, determined to sneak past the Pykes and execute their plan, aware that every step could be their last. The tension in the air was palpable, each moment stretched as they prepared for whatever lay ahead. Cheep let out a screech of pain and terror as they flew to avoid the blaster fire.
"Can we go a full cycle without our ship getting shot at?!" Amber asks.
"Welcome to the Protectors, kid!" Kate cried.
Hondo and Peter maneuvered stealthily through the dimly lit corridors of the ship, the vast emptiness echoing their soft footsteps. The vessel, typically bustling with activity, felt strangely vacant, which made sense considering that a pirate crew didn't require many hands to operate efficiently. As they crept forward, Peter's arm occasionally glowed with the faint pulse of a tracer, guiding them deeper toward the ship's core.
"It's a real pleasure to see you again, old friend," Hondo remarked with a grin, his eyes gleaming with mischief. "Life as a pirate has been rather lucrative without the constant interruptions from the Avengers or the Jedi."
Peter rolled his eyes, unable to suppress a slight smirk. "An insult and a compliment all wrapped in one—truly, only you could pull off such a feat, Hondo."
The two frenemies glided along the walls, their senses sharp as they skillfully avoided encroaching Pykes. As they reached the heavily fortified room, Peter's muscles tensed. With a surge of his enhanced strength, he wrenched the doors apart, revealing a trove of boxes brimming with spice. However, it was a diminutive box resting on a table that caught their attention, accompanied by the sight of a Pyke leader engaged in a holographic conversation.
"Sir, I have retrieved the artifact from the pirate scum," the Pyke leader announced his tone a mix of pride and arrogance.
"Very good," replied Maul, his voice a low, menacing whisper that crackled through the hologram. "Have you attempted to open it yet?"
"No," came the reluctant response.
"Then you must hurry," Maul urged, urgency threading his words. "We cannot afford to let Hondo survive and come after us with his crew. Bring me the artifact."
"Understood, sir," the Pyke replied, ending the transmission with a flick of his wrist, the hologram vanishing into thin air.
Seizing the moment, Peter sprang into action, springing forward with agility. In a swift motion, he struck the Pyke leader on the side of the head, a dull thud echoing as the figure crumpled to the ground, unconscious and defeated. He then reached down and picked up the small box.
"Alright, Hondo, now-" Peter then looked back and saw Hondo was missing. "Hondo? Where are-" that was when his senses went off and he saw the Pykes marching in and aiming their blasters. "Hondo!"
"Ah, I am sorry old friend, truly," Hondo said as he revealed to be on their side. "But I made an agreement. I lead you to them, and they don't kill me."
"Honestly, Hondo," Peter exhaled, a weary sigh escaping his lips as he leaned against the cold, concrete wall of the dimly lit warehouse. "You should really come up with some new material. It's becoming a little predictable, don't you think?"
"Predictable?" Hondo gasped, his eyes widening in surprise, the flickering overhead lights casting shadows across his face.
"Yeah," Peter continued, a smirk playing at the corners of his mouth. "You didn't honestly think I was going to just follow you here without a backup plan, right?"
At that moment, a thunderous explosion echoed through the space, rattling the walls and sending debris flying. A chunk of plaster crumbled from above as Kate, poised and steadfast, released a flurry of arrows. Each arrow whistled through the air, expertly latching onto a nearby metal crate. The arrows reacted with a heavy thud, magnetizing it, and within seconds, an assortment of guns flew from the startled Pyke's grip, drawn irresistibly toward the crate with a metallic clang.
"You didn't trust me and were planning to double-cross me this whole time!?" Hondo exclaimed, disbelief etching across his features before slowly morphing into genuine pride. As the realization washed over him, a grin broke across his face. "I couldn't be more proud of you if you were my own kin!"
"Weird, Hondo!" Kate called, shooting several arrows as Amber came in and used her lightsaber to block the remaining Pykes with blasters. "Come on, Parker!"
Peter swiftly webbed the box, securely containing the mysterious artifact, to himself, and with urgency, they bolted toward the Stellar Sentinel. As they boarded the ship, the controls flickered, and the vessel groaned under the stress of its recent injuries from the brutal dogfight. They took off with an adrenaline-fueled launch, but the ship's sluggish speed reminded them of the damage inflicted during their last encounter.
"We need to outrun them!" Rex shouted, his voice laced with urgency. "Our lasers can't cut through their defenses!"
Kyle rushed over to the malfunctioning second engine, his brow furrowed in concentration. "Well, our secondary engine took a lot of damage in that last skirmish!" he exclaimed, fingers flying over the controls as he assessed the situation. "Just try to dodge their blasts while I attempt to fix this and input coordinates to a safe hiding spot!"
"Trying not to get shot is my daily goal!" Amber yelled back, her eyes darting to the viewport where enemy fire illuminated the space around them.
Suddenly, a spark flew from Kyle's workstation as he came up with an impromptu plan. "Hang on, I might have an idea!" he called out, his voice filled with determination. He began to rewire the ship's systems, the sounds of his tools clinking against the metal hull echoing in the cramped cockpit. "If I can just re-network the systems—"
Before he could finish his thought, a surge of electricity jolted through his metal armor, sending him staggering backward. "OW!" he yelped, but the shock was fleeting; he knew he would recover easily. Just then, to their collective relief, the ship lurched and leaped into Hyperspace, narrowly escaping their pursuers.
Peter let out a sigh of relief, glancing down at the box he had liberated, its surface gleaming with an otherworldly sheen. "So, what do we do now?" Kate asked her voice a mixture of curiosity and concern.
"First and foremost, we need to figure out what this artifact actually is," Peter replied, his tone serious as he contemplated the implications of their find.
"Where can we go to uncover information about it?" Amber inquired, her brows knitted together in thought.
"I might know a place," Peter said, determination sparking in his eyes as he began to set the Hyperspace coordinates for a location that promised safety—a hidden refuge from the Empire and the Pykes, where they could begin to unravel the mysteries surrounding the artifact.
The location was peculiar, to say the least, resembling a colossal robotic head drifting serenely through the vastness of space, far removed from any discernible star system. The emptiness around it only amplified its surreal presence.
"What is this place?" Amber inquired, her brow furrowed in confusion as she glanced around, taking in the eerie surroundings.
"This is a place known as Knowhere," Peter responded, his voice tinged with a sense of wonder. "It's said to be some sort of colony situated within the cranium of an ancient Celestial."
"And how do you know about this place?" Rex asked, curiosity sparking in his eyes.
"Ahsoka, Kenobi, Anakin, and I stumbled upon it during a mission; it just appeared out of nowhere," Peter explained as he navigated the ship closer to a landing zone, the walls of the massive head glowing softly in the dim light. "The guy in charge could explain it a lot better than I can."
As they descended and exited the ship, a dark corridor stretched before them, dimly lit and echoing with an eerie silence. "Why do I feel like we're going to run into some face-huggers, Peter?" Kate ventured a hint of terror in her tone.
"Don't worry; this place is perfectly safe," Peter assured her, though the slight tremor in his voice hinted otherwise.
Suddenly, a cacophony of barking shattered the silence, and out of the shadows, a creature came bounding towards them. Tension flared as everyone instinctively braced for a confrontation, weapons at the ready when Peter was unexpectedly tackled by the charging creature. However, instead of alarm, they heard his laughter ring out.
To their astonishment, the creature was revealed to be a Labrador retriever dressed in a snug astronaut suit, his tail wagging furiously.
"Cosmo! Good boy!" Peter beamed, stroking the dog's head affectionately. "It's great to see you again."
"It is good to see old friend, too," a voice reverberated in their minds, rich with a heavy Russian accent. "Apologies, I was worried when detected unfamiliar clothing. Smell like pirate."
"Yeah, it's been a day," Peter replied with a grin, still petting Cosmo.
"Uh, Peter, is that dog actually talking?" Kate asked, her eyes wide with disbelief.
"What's a dog?" Amber queried, bewildered, for dogs were a rarity in their galaxy.
"This is Cosmo, and he's not really talking; he's communicating telepathically," Peter clarified as Cosmo licked his face playfully. "Cosmo was an astronaut test pilot for a spacecraft and somehow found his way here to Knowhere."
"And how did this place come to exist?" Kate pressed further, intrigued.
"Cosmo was originally part of the Soviet space program," Cosmo explained as he led them through the dimly lit halls, his paws padding softly on the metal floor.
"I don't know what any of that means," Rex admitted, looking thoroughly perplexed.
"Doesn't matter," Cosmo sighed, his eyes momentarily clouding with memory. "Capsule… was how do you say… lost in space. Cosmo was taken to a lab and experimented on."
"Wait, Earth?" Kate's eyes widened with realization.
"Yes, that's the next part of Cosmo's story," he continued, his tone imbued with the weight of history. "Cosmo did not hail from this galaxy, per se. An alert triggered; anti-matter threatened Knowhere. Cosmo used all energy within the Sentinel to transport to this galaxy."
"Yeah, hard to believe it myself, but he came from a galaxy very much like ours," Peter noted, glancing at Kate. "This place serves as a sanctuary for individuals without a place in the galaxy, along with being a self-sustaining community. Only a handful of Jedi and I are aware of it."
"That's how you knew it would be a safe place to lay low," Kyle deduced, his tone a mixture of admiration and intrigue. "Who are we here to see?"
"You'll see," Peter said, missing the Cube glowing and particles peeling out and coming out and into the head of Knowhere.
Peter had a hunch about who could shed some light on the mysterious box they had discovered. He led Kate to a man known as the Collector, an enigmatic figure well-versed in the lore of countless artifacts and devices across both known and unknown corners of the galaxy. The moment they stepped into the Collector's expansive realm, it was like entering a vast museum filled with the weight of history.
The halls were lined with shelves bursting with oddities and relics, each chosen with care and precision. As they walked through the labyrinthine pathways, familiar faces emerged from their memories—characters they recognized from their home universe, echoing back to a time before Knowhere had drifted into this new galaxy. But there was little time for nostalgia as they passed a chamber containing a Chitauri soldier. Peter felt a surge of anger rise within him, his gaze locking onto the figure. Memories of his parents' tragic fate at the hands of the Chitauri clawed at his heart. Kate, feeling his tension, glanced up to see yet another captivating sight: a chamber housing a Dark Elf, caught in stasis, a mere showpiece in the Collector's vast collection.
Every corner of the Collector's domain was alive with stories. They strode deeper into the museum, awe washing over them as the magnitude of the collection enveloped them. Exotic items from their home galaxy seamlessly intertwined with relics from this unfamiliar universe, creating a vibrant tapestry of history. A few displays stood out, each accompanied by placards narrating their significance. One caught their attention boldly marked "Ultimate Nullifier," claiming that, if wielded by one of cosmic might, it could obliterate entire solar systems. Another display hinted at the Eye of the Watcher encased within a glass chamber, which drew a puzzled glance from Peter.
The Watcher, ever vigilant, found himself staring back at his own reflection in disbelief. "Wait, what? That's a fake!" he exclaimed, confusion mingling with indignation.
They moved on, encountering the Circlet of Saresh, an artifact rumored to be steeped in Force energy, once belonging to the revered Jedi Knight Guun Han Saresh from the distant planet Taris. Nearby, the Staff of XoXaan, an imposing relic of dark magic, awaited in silent menace, once wielded by an ancient Sith Lord whose name was etched in history.
As they continued, the atmosphere shifted, and they were finally greeted by Taneleer Tivan, the Collector himself. He stood with his back turned, transfixed by one of his most treasured displays. Slowly, he turned to face them, a knowing smile spreading across his face. "Peter Parker. How delightful it is to see you again," he said, his voice smooth and inviting, echoing with the promise of adventures yet to unfold in the depths of his collection."Wish I could say the same to you, Tivan," Peter remarked with a hint of sarcasm, his eyes narrowing as he approached the enigmatic figure. "Especially considering our first encounter, when you tried to buy my armor and Anakin's arm." The weight of tension hung in the air between them. "Look, I wouldn't be here if I had any other choice, but we're on the run from the Empire, and you might just be the only one who can tell us what this thing is and how to open it."
Tivan glanced down at the mysterious device resting in Peter's hand, his eyes widening with fascination. "Oh, my," he gasped, gingerly taking the cube and inspecting it from every angle. "I have just the tool to unlock its secrets. Follow me…"
He led them through the dimly lit corridor of his lair, its walls adorned with relics and artifacts from across the galaxy. The atmosphere was thick with anticipation as they arrived at a gleaming apparatus designed for opening relics with unparalleled ease. Tivan's fingers danced over the controls, and a series of whirs and clicks filled the room as he operated the device.
"This relic hails from the ancient Zeffonian species," Tivan informed them, his voice laced with reverence as he watched the cube begin to unlock, one intricate lock after another. "Oh, my new friends. Before creation itself, there existed six singularities." He activated a holographic display, illuminating the room with vibrant colors as it projected images of six cataclysmic explosions. "Then the universe erupted into existence, the remnants of these systems forged into concentrated ingots." The hologram transformed, revealing six shimmering stones formed from the aftermath of the cosmic explosions.
"Infinity Stones," Peter whispered in awe, his breath hitching as he absorbed the significance of these relics—echoes of the very powers that had once shaped the fate of the Avengers in a distant galaxy.
"These stones," Tivan continued, his tone turning somber, "can only be wielded by beings of extraordinary strength. Observe." The hologram shifted again, showcasing colossal entities wielding a single Infinity Stone as a remorseless weapon, decimating entire planets in an instant. Another display revealed a smaller, frail being who harnessed the power of a stone and transformed into a titan of strength and might. "These carriers can sweep across civilizations as if they were mere blades of grass."
Cheep bleeped anxiously, a mechanical whirr indicating an oil leak in response to the grim revelations. Just then, the final lock clicked open, and the cube's lid lifted to reveal the captivating glow of one of the Infinity Stones nestled inside, radiating formidable energy.
"Beautiful," Tivan murmured, his eyes gleaming with wonder. "One of the rarest relics in the galaxy."
Peter opened his mouth to speak, but the tingling warning sensations prickled at the back of his mind, causing his focus to shift. His companions instinctively turned toward the entrance as a figure silhouetted against the dim light stepped into the room. Hondo, the notorious pirate, swaggered in with his motley crew, a gleeful smirk playing on his lips. "Well, that would mean this little gem would fetch a hefty price, wouldn't it?"
"Hondo?!" Amber exclaimed, her instincts kicking in as she drew her lightsaber, its blade humming to life with an ominous hiss. "How did you track us?!"
"Oh, I may or may not have left a tracker on your ship when you rescued me," Hondo shrugged nonchalantly, eyeing the stone with greedy delight. "Now, hand over my bounty, and I might let you live."
"Yeah, I think not! Take this!" Kate shouted, drawing an arrow drawn taut in her bowstring. She released it, the arrow soaring through the air before exploding, setting off a chaotic chain reaction that freed various aliens from their cells. A cacophony of sounds erupted as pandemonium unleashed, and the Pykes stormed in, gunfire erupting in a blinding flash.
In the midst of the frenzy, creatures and pirates surged in every direction, cries of alarm piercing the air. Suddenly, tendrils emerged from the depths of Knowhere's skeletal head, attacking without warning. Peter, grappling with a pirate, was caught off guard by one of the tendrils that lashed out and sent the precious box tumbling from his grasp. Hondo's hand shot out, snatching it away.
"Hang on!" Rex yelled, his blaster firing at the thrashing tendrils that seemed relentless and unyielding.
