Chapter 21: Autumnal Bounties part 1
October could be rough for most bounty hunters but Buffy had finally sorted out her buisness affairs and even had a legion of lawyers and workers who would deal with her citys expansion, the new builds and all of her mining activities. she had to admit they were doing well and performing better than she had expected them too, Jean and the madame had recommended them and when she wasn't around they answered to them both in her stead.
The idea had proved to be a god send after she had spent 5 days running around like a headless chicken and now she could finally breath for a moment, Faith however had been rather popular in the art world recently as her books and sketches had caught the attention of a few puboishers from L.A and Buffys mother was also innthe midst of not only taking Faith on an art world world tour she was also making some big bank off of Faiths larger canvases.
It was the first time in a momth they had even got to spend time with each other alone, after all the security checks in their desert home, the random buisness meeting and Faiths sudden popularity after meeting with her mothers art dealers and rich socialites... it had really taken its toll on her. but they were both so tired they barely spent more than five minutes together and most of that was spent kissing and hugging.
She almost broke into tears when at the magic box Willow had asked her where Faith was as she had spent the whole day with a publisher and had telephoned ahead to tell her she wouldn't be home till tommorow. Funny thing was Ruby was the first to act and changed the subject and even sent Willow on an errand with the promise of teaching her a new Aura transference technique.
Ruby had even emptied the store and closed up for an early lunch and sent Anya on a lunch pickup just so she could talk to Buffy alone for half hour. She had broken down and cried in Rubys arms as she admitted how hard it was to be away from Faith and how her own buisness holdings in Al-Kufir seemed to coincide with Faiths only free time and then when Buffy had free time her mother had Faith with her in the gallery or speaking to prospective buyers.
Ruby tried to reassure Buffy with some kind words but Buffy had a hard time believing her and even said she knew about Rubys 'honest' moment nearly a month ago and why Faith was avoiding the magic box like the plague. she even told Ruby that she wasn't the way back to Faith and handed her a small black box for her birthday, she even told her it was only late because they had been so busy and she hadn't had time to pick it up from Al-Kufir.
She had opened to up to reveal a beautiful necklace of an interlocked Ruby and emerald that flowed around a blue sapphire shard like they were veins inbedded in a magical rockbeast. She was silent as she stared at it and Buffy was the first to tell her she 'Was still loved' gy both of them and would always be family no matter her thoughts about Buffy and if she was even worth Faiths love.
Faith hadn't seen both Ruby and Buffy in weeks for more than moments at a time but Ruby was someone she could barely even look at and any word she had for her was almost a simple yes or no answer now. Ruby had confided in Buffy about how much it pained her but Buffy was filled with infinite patience for Ruby at this point and continued to posess even more as she promised when they were free again and together, she would bring Faith here and sit them both down and knock their stubborn heads together.
Faith was listening to all of Buffys stories and goings on as she had missed alot of Dawns training and was happy to hear William and Ruby had picked up the slack as their lives had spiralled into a mountain of multidimensional work. The Saloon was quiet and the weekend morning rush was always kind of non existant and it gave Faith time to just admire Buffys pretty face as she made it clear they would both see Ruby monday as they had some free time and she would sort out this silly rift that had formed between them.
"I'm more annoyed your mother is able to make so much money off me B, think she's getting revenge for making you an honest woman eh!" Faith grinned and she hadn't even realised Buffy had stopped speaking and they were now holding hands as they sat across from eachother on the end two barstool and hadn't spoke for nearly a whole minute before Buffys face turned red and she had to avert her gaze as Faith unintentionally bit her lip and locked her wife up and down with a hungry gaze.
"I've missed you so much... but i fixed everything, got people managing my town and buisness... i can even go with you from now on with mum... if you want? you don't have to say yes, i would probably uust embarass you around those high society art freaks" Buffy stumbled on her words and even had to hide a fearful shake in her hand but Faith let nothing get past her and with very little effort pulled Buffy close and kissed her passionatly as if she hadn't seen her in years.
She whispered in her ear "I've never felt so lonely since my first year without you, i need you Buffy... by my side forever... even around freaky art people that your mum seems to know wayyyy to many of" Faith found herself begin to kiss her wifes neck and even bite her playfully a little but Buffy had to stop her as a very sexy moan escaped her lips and she realised some people were getting free show.
The madams girls were getting quite the eye full and Faith was completly lost in Buffys scent and soft touch before she realised that maybe it wasn't the best idea to try and mount your beloved wife in the middle of a half empty Saloon, much worse in a busy one too.
"Sorry B, i just... You taste soo.. insatiable. lets get on that sleeper train and get to making up for all the time we've miss together recently.. we can lock the door and rock that carriage until we arrive in Ikala in the wee hours tommorow morning" Faith let her go and paid her tab in full before saying goodbye to jean and the madame and avoiding the eyes of the madames girls who she knew had quite the thing for them both and took her wifes hand in hers as she opened the door and guided her into town and then towards the newly renovated train station.
Buffy enjoyed being linked to Faiths arms once again, being her property and feeling protected by the taller and much stronger Slayer was a not so secret turn on and Faith had just promised to rock her world once they get to their private sleeper carriage. she wasn't tired and had bundles of energy that Faith would have to work out of her tight supernaturally charged muscles, but apart of her could feel just how pent up her wife was and wanted to dominate her lover and make her scream her name for the whole train to hear and admire.
"So after this hunt we what? go home, fix the Ruby issue monday morning and then go and link arms with the high art society... bet you're regretting it now arent ya, i know it's pissing me off all this extra work... i barely have time to kiss you these days" Buffy spoke plainly and Faith sighed and apologised gut Buffy wasn't having it.
"Hey, i had crap to deal with too and now... got workers dealing with it and Jeans overlooking everything so me and you... we aren't gonna be away from eachother for even a second longer for the foreseeable future! i have had enough of my diet Faith life and you belong to me so baby... get ready for a full Horny Buffy experience with an obsessive wife who has been worked ragged for weeks" Buffy giggled as they turned down the empty early morning streets and Faith not so secretly copped a full hand feep of her muscular ass and caused Buffy to almost cum on the spot.
"Wow B... someones been lonely, guess you arent much for alone time fun... don't worry me neither. i'm gonna fuck you so god damned hard on that sleeper train were gonna derail the fuckinng thing! Ikala is gonna be fun too... maybe?" Faith wasn't sure it would be but the train ride there was gonna be alot of fun and she had a full sexless month to make up for and Buffy was about to feel it like never before.
"I missed you ya know, those people ya mum knows are the worst and hell she thinks so too... but they really like the whole tall dark and handsome lesbian artist thing... could make you jealous too if you ever find out how many numbers i had to throw away" Faith gave Buffy a cheeky grin and she could see clear as day it annoyed her but Buffy just played it off with a few brisk words as they passed the town gaurd with linked arms.
"You belong to me dummy, i don't share and i aint getting cucked ever! never ever baby" Buffy was forced to quickly stop and almost fall over as her subordinates rushed over to greet her with a strong set of salutes which she brushed off and held onto her wife even tigher as she rested her head against her shoulder.
"Sir! we heard you were going to Ikala for a bounty mission, my mother owns an Inn by the train station, i have a request to ask of you if it wouldn't be too much trouble" The tall lion man who was fully decked out in scale armor and Laconian metal underneath. he handed Faith a letter and a small sack of what felt like Rupees and Faith had to ask him why he couldn't just post it.
"Well my mother wanted to meet you both, so it'll be a nice suprise for her and the inn is the nicest and cleanest in town. plus between me and you, best breakfast too as she CAN cook! ya my boss so why shouldn't i send ya to the best possible inn plus my brother knows everyone, might make ya job easier... if he aint too drunk" The young town gaurd laughed nervously to himself and Faith brushed it off as being yellow.
"Fine, we'll stop by and deliver ya letter but my wife here wants you to work hard and get some extra practice down the range... i've heard you aint exactly an expert marksman... Sina can help you with that, she taught me and i won the last bet 4 times in a row..." Faith bragged a little at the knowledge she was such a great markman now but the young tiger demon just looked impressed and pumped to go. he was defiently energetic compared to alot of her wifes other gaurdmen and women.
"No problem Mrs Summers! I'll tell Commander Sina you sent me and learn as best i can! and thanks a million for helping me out! i owe ya both one" He was slapped in the head playfully by a giraffe demon with the butt of his metal club and he apologised for the newbies insolence which both Slayers just ignored and let fly.
"We apologise for Zenta's lack of manners Boss... he's a bit hyper and we apologize for the trouble" The giraffe and other gaurd of which were more humanoid and barely demonic looking all bowed and apologized profusely for the tiger recruits less than professional attitude.
"Hey, don't worry about it, Zenta's just trying to be helpful. treat your fellow gaurds with respect, we protect this town together and we can't do our job if we arent all acting as one for the betterment of everyone who resides under our protection!" Buffy was still linking arms with Faith but now had a more authorative tone to her voice and the bossy Buffy was now coming out to speak for once.
"This town stays safe because we fight for it, so next time i see anyone hitting each other outside of combat training i will personally beat them into the ground! DO I MAKE MYSELF CLEAR!!!!" Buffy was so commanding she could see the fear wash over their faces instantly.
Buffys power was evident and all her gaurds hand personally seen Buffy do some impossible things for her size, each one also knew Faith was the stronger of the two and even though there were rumours that this wasn't always the case no one was stupid enough to disobey them both. they were heros to the town and many others too and were known for the temperance and kind ways, it had changed many peoples lives to see heroes walk among them again and bring the law back to Al'Kufir.
The soldiers instantly all stood to attention and answered in unison "We understand Boss! we apologise for the rude behaviour we have displayed this day!" all stood as statues as Buffy moved away from Faith and she inspected her small group of new gaurds.
"At ease... Rhino will need you on the south side today, new recruits are to undergo public relations and hand to hand combat training until mid day... good luck with that cause... Rhinos not the best with public relations, listen more to Imak, she gives the best advice and has her ear to the ground..." Buffy fixed one of the recruits pistol holster and anothers blade sheath.
Buffy sighed and turned towards Faith. "What do you think my love, think they'll make it past the month?" Buffy said softly and Faith slowly looked them over with a weary eye and she could sense their nervousness and decided to throw them a bone.
"If they apply themselves, grow some bigger stones... they look tough and thankfully not as dumb as the last lot, might be lucky this time Beautiful" Faith and Buffy dismissed them all and told them to report to southside on the double and they did as they were told, each with a spring in their step.
"Ya know, they're gonna do well but we have a train to catch baby, but no more talk of random art bitches who want to steal you from me... i'm actually feeling kinda pissy bout that right now" Buffy pouted and Faith couldn't help but snicker as she walked towards her and took Buffys hand in hers.
"If you actually had to worry about that kinda crap i'm sure ya pissy attitude would be justified, but B... i'm whipped and in that sleeper carriage... you are gonna be spanked, fucked and screaming my name..." Faith stopped as she thought to herself for a moment and then corrected herself.
"Maybe you should spank me, choke me... fuck me hard! man i really am whipped," Faith took Buffys arm in hers once again as she found her wife liking the idea of her being on top to begin with, but just to begin with.
"We have a whole day together tall, dark and sexy... god i've missed you, i will never let my month become so swamped again! we have gotta get Jean a bigger christmas present this year!" Buffy was happy to walk slowly through the awakening city and were almost by the new station and were happy to see Buffys money had been most definetly well spent as they tackled the steep steps and entered the foyer where a few ticket desks were opening in expectation for the morning rush.
They had a whole day to enjoy each other and through the tall colored glass of the station house they could see the sleeper train being refueled and cleaned in the distance. Faith showed her prepaid ticket and Buffys at the desk and moved towards the train that would soon be their home for the next 16 hours and were both stopped in their tracks as Buffy decided to magically take pictures of them both by the wooden and glass structure of the station house.
The light was shining through the stained glass so beautifully Buffy just had to encapsulate the moment in a few expertly snapped pics and she did so after a few minutes and even scared a statiin worker with her magical escapades but had become used to it rather quickly as both women overheard them reffered to as 'The god slayers' and were not shocked people had heard of what they did to the snake god.
Plus both had to admit it sounded cool as they finished up and inspected Buffys magical handy work as she brought her floating camera back to her hand with little effort. Faith smiled freely as she enjoyed Buffys hobby with her and had to admit her wife really knew how to take some really good looking pictures to the point she eas sure she could go professional if she wanted too.
Ikala was waiting though and so was her libido and Faith knew exactly what was going to get satiated first and by the look in Buffys eyes, so did she.

Ruby was taking Dawn to her favourite stores in Al-Kufir and Joyce had also joined them with Willow as they had both wanted to explore after hearing Buffy and Faith needed a weekend alone together and Dawn had ckme up with the idea on a whim. The enchantress had to break Willows binding spell to unban her from this dimension and then also cover her and Joyce in protective charms to make sure nothing befell them as this certainly wasn't a dimension for the weak.
Even though Al-Kufir was relatively safe, safer then Sunnydale in most regards, things still happened and she knew the Slayers would never forgive her if something happened to Willow and Joyce under her watch so she took every precaution possible to the point a god could barely toucn them without Rubys permission. she had really outdone herself this time and yet she had made it clear to them all they would only be here for a few hours as the spells would wear out and she had no interest in letting them walk around unprotected.
"So this is Al-Kufir, Buffy has been renovating the whole city for months now and is basically the mayor here, but people listen to Faith equally since she is stronger and was here alot longer... yeah they spent 2 years here alone, kinda cozy and shocking they liked the whole cowboy astetic so much" Dawn had pointed directly over to the Saloon from Rubys enchantments store and her mother followed her lead as they all let Dawn guide them with her taking the lead and Ruby trailing behind a safe distance.
"Jean and the madame operate out of the Saloon and Jeans the bounty office and also he has a finger in every pie this place is cooking but he's a sweetheart to the right people. helped us out a bunch of times and well we've helped him alot too" Dawn noticed Willow looking around and was obviously wondering why the place was so empty so early in the morning and she answered her plainly.
"It's saturday so most people stay home with their families or go to church, a few even take classes at the local school house, Faith is an art teacher there and since Drusillas become human again she spends most of her time between the church in southside and the school house which is on the west" Dawn noticed Jean walking out to greet them all and Joyce was shocked as a well dressed but short pig man with a giant cigar came hopping down the dusty plane of main street cheerfully screaming "good morning little one" as he came to greet a happy Dawn.
"Ya mothers have already left Dawnie, Williams also fixing some crap for Drusilla at the church... him and Colt have been bitching about it for the last 2 hours but their both working hard at the mo" Jean noticed Dawns face change at the mention of her boyfriend being anywhere near Drusilla but she tried to remain calm and continued on with her greetings and introduced both Willow and Joyce to her jovial bounty boss.
"This is my friend Willow, she is a witch and we're learning magic from Ruby and this here is Buffys mother, and back home people think she's mine too but... it's a cover big man, gotta keep it hush hush" Dawn giglgled heartily as Jean played along and shook both the womans hand with his pink hands that resembled a weird mix between a human hand and a pigs but seemed to work perfectly fine for a creature with three fingers and a thumb.
"Well you'll confuse people if ya keep the ruse up here, people already know your the daughter of my beloved ladies and we can't be screwing around with public perceptions... but i can see where Buffy gets her beauty from, if i'm honest with myself it makes me wanna see what Faiths mother looks like. must be quite a beauty as well" Jean noticed Dawn suddenly freeze up and realise he may have messed up somehow but then he also noticed a confused look on the two ladies face and Ruby who was in her human form just a little behind them shook her head from side to side and he got the jist of her meaning.
"Well never mind, a man can't be so lucky to have his town graced with a cavalry of beautiful amazons now can he... but he can surely dream" his swinular wink caused quite a reactiin of disgust and amusement innthe two women but they found him oddly charming none the less.
"Jean, we're gonna be looking around for a few hours since Joyce and Willow have never been to another dimension before and wanna check everything out, saturdays are usually slow so can you send a message to my dear William for me before we set on our little adventure?" Dawn asked and he lit his cigar with an oddly shaped lighter of gold construction and he took a large puff before nodding yes and she continued speaking again.
"Tell him we're gonna check out the shops and pop to my mothers and if he's free to meet us about mid day in the Saloon for a light lunch... plus tell him, i miss him a little bit" Dawn whispered the last part as she crouched next to his ear and Jean shook his head and walked back towarss the Saloon promising he'd do just that and they were soon alone again and Willow was the first to speak.
"Wow... he was kinda adorable for a pig man! but gee wiz that cigar was huge... can't be good for him, all that smoke" The witch turned to Ruby and she just shrugged her human shoulders and didn't say a word and Joyce just agreed that the cigars probanly weren't too good for him and Dawn decided to get the tour back on track.
"So guys, were gonna pop to the outfitters and then off to the sugar boy and Willow told me you both want some guns for self defence and also... Faithhas no idea but were gonna see her clasroom and then you both get a tour of their house, don't worry i got a key... my house too ya know, sofa especially, it's pretty comfy" Dawn started walking towards the outfitters and wasn't suprised to see the worker Ballan saying some words to the snake lady story owner who was off on some errands and hadn't noticed their presence as she dissapeared rather quickly.
Joyce had never seen someone move so fast using a chunky snake tail to slither away and yet she kind of just accepted it after seeing a pig man act so silly and charming whilst greeting them all. The worker who had been here for months now turned to greet Dawn happily wifh a wide grin on his demon snake like face.
"Ahhh, Miss Summers, did you need something today? or mayhaps your wonderful mothers have sent you to pick something up for them? we havent received an order from either of them to my knowledge, shall i go and check?" He hissed every now and then between words and Dawn raised her hand up and reassured him they were just here to browse and his nerves he had held onto had seemed to instantly fade away.
"Well if you're in the market for weapons we have some derringers in stock and also some cool looking honey comb revolvers or an english pepperbox gun, Faith actually gave us some amazing earth manuals and the blacksmith and armourers have been going nuts recently... you should see what they've built recently, it is inspiring" Ballan opened the shop store for them and left the door open and permamently ajar as he wanted to let some air in anyway whilst the air was still morning fresh.
"We just need some handguns for self defence, Ruby will enchant them for us so it's more looks rather than function... you know how amazing she is at enchanting items" Ruby shook her head and took both Willow over to the firearm section and began to peruse the stores wears as Dawn continued speaking to Ballan for a few minutes more.
"Well that's fine, we have so many in right now, Ruby'll fix em right up...even the clunkers, they're all at the back there so take your time... oh who are they anyway, i've never seen them around before... very human" Ballan was shocked as Dawn pointed over to them and told them who they were.
"Well the redhead is a powerful witch from earth, the tall one who looks like she doesn't belong is Ruby in human form, she casts an illusion when she works in Sunnydale and the Middle one is my mothers, mother..." Dawn saw the shock on the snakes face as he blinked in confusion at the thought.
"Buffys... mother, oh my i should be paying my respects what on Myri kal am i doing being so disrespectful..." He almost rushed over to the small group but Danw stopped him and gave him a strange look of confusion and apprehension as she wasn't sure why he would think such a thing.
"Why? she's technically my grandmother, she doesn't care about all that nonsense... she would rather be treated as everyone else... like you do with my mothers... butnwhy would you need to even pay your respects anyway? she doesn't have powers like us either" Dawn was brutally honest but Ballan seemed nervous and not sure if he really should be treating the unnoficial mayors mother like everyone else.
"But Miss Dawn, she's the mother of your mother... Faith and Buffy have saved us all so many times, the town flourishes because they will it so... my brother is a lieutanant on the town gaurd and well respected since she took over with Rhino and Sina. we all owe you mothers more than we could ever pay, before it was hell living here, with them it is safe and they killed the Snake god and our people are finally free of his evil ways..." Ballan was talking with a panic to his voice, not from fear gut what he felt was a duty and obligation.
Dawn understood gut didn't want him to cause a scene, "Ballan, my mothers wouldn't like you treating us any different than others... they don't know she is here and this is just a fun day out for us so please, act normal ok" Dawn put a soothing hand on his shoulder and he seemed to calm down after a few moments as she noticed his eyes not blinking so quickly anymore.
"We are not any different from you... That snake god threatened us all too, he got what he deserved and anyway they wouldn't be happy if you treated us any better than the public since they've never thought themselves better than anyone" Dawn moved to leave and Ballan responded quickly before moving behind the counter.
"That's because they are heroes, a hero doesn't seek a reward, they do what is right... but we owe our lives and jobs to your mothers... all of us would be interested in seeing the woman who birthed one of our saviors" Ballan put his head down as Dawn gave him an odd look and it wss something she knew would need to be discussed later with Ruby and then after her mothers when they returned home.
"Dawn, i'm going for these two double barreled derringers with a mother of pearl handle and Willow wants a...what was it again?" Joyce asked with a quizzical tone as Willow showed Dawn her strange looking pistol that was an apt choice and also kind of cool looking too.
"A berretta made of a strange looking blood red metal, it's alarmingly cold to the touch too, unnaturally so... can't wait to see how Ruby enchants em! Taras gonna freak out when we go target shooting at the range... she's shy but ya know... really cute" Willow liked the guns weight and feel and was adamant this beretta was for her but she like Joyces twin derringers and though they were very lady like.
Joyce had already made sure she didn't like the idea of using them but would if she had too, especially after Buffy had made it clear just how bad this coming god was and it spurred on the secret trip without Buffys knowledge. Faith had planned fhe whole thing and even gave Xander a similar gun to hers and was practicing innsecret with everyone on thursdays and fridays.
"Man so long as my daughter doesn't see me with these things... they're so small and cute I could probably hide them in my bra pretty easily... i think well to do ladies did that in the past. you know, to protect themselves from muggers, brigands and the sort" Joyce was suprised as Ruby looked the weapons over and was very suprised with the possibilities she was secretly privy too and knew if they ever had to use these guns then they would be protected and that was Faiths plan.
The plan was the first time in weeks Faith had even looked at her and it was nice to hear her deep femimine voice once again. she had wanted to apologise but couldn't find the words at all as Faith laid out her idea to the group. Buffy wasn't privvy because everyone knew she would hate tue idea of arming her friends and family and Anya pointed out it wasn't probably an ego thing like Willow had suggested but more of a 'Please don't shoot ya leg off' kind of thing.
They purchased the guns and handed them over to Ruby as she had to enchant them later and after a short discussion with the shopkeep who insisted they didn't have to pay but Dawn was having none of it as she handed the temporary shopkeep a small bag of rupees and told him to keep the change. they left and all said there goodbyes but as they exited the shop Joyce almost jumped out of her skin as The Madame Majistrix slivered down the way and clocked them before they could dissapear off and avoid the conversation outright.
"Good morning Mrs Summers, what on earth are you and... Ruby in human form... well how odd. is there some sort of secretive plan afoot, should my girls help or get to ground? we wouldn't want a repeat of that snake God buisness. do you know my best working girl sprained her ankle descending those wretched grated bunker stairs... where is your mother anyway? i saw her this morning in the saloon but she was gone by the time i managed to wrangle myself free of all my very important work" The madame had said so much that both Willow and Joyce didn't even try to speak they just watched the impossibly tall pink snake lady with bosoms that could knock out a giant wave her fan and await a response.
Dawn took The Madame a little to the side but still spoke loud enough for her group to hear. "My mothers are on a hunt, Jean should of told you and anyway he is also the best person to talk to about those stairs, my poor mothers been run off her feet this last month due to buisness here and you know it better than most... but i'm sorry tonhear your best earner sprained her ankle" Dawn took out a note pad and scribbled something down and handed it to Majistrix who suddenly became very excited.
"Well aren't you generous... Dr tolbot is a fine man and paying for her healthcare, i've said it before you women are the best thing that ever happened to this town! we used to have to hack legs off and remove bullets ourself and now we have a small hospital! are you sure about this Dawn my darling flower... the Doc is a very busy man afterall and the towns expansion has been... tasking for alor of us buisness wise" The Madame gave Dawn a stressed look and the yiung brunette just took her hand in hers and gave it a strong grip as she handed the money to her.
"Dr Tolbot came here after we helped his village, he will be looking forward to making her aquantance, now we have some buisness to attend to and since you can't drum up any buisness here we should get going. oh and can you tell the ironmonger next time he goes to attack on of the girls i will come and chop his hand off personally so he can never slap another women again" Dawn said it so non chalantly The Madame didn't at first realise she was serious but it also saved her paying the town gaurd or her bouncers to do it and the threat of a Summers women would scare him alot more than the gaurds.
"Fine it shall be done, now if you will all excuse me, i have a long day ahead of me but also skme good news to deliver to my best worker so silver linings and all that" The madame dissapeared so quickly it was almost out of character for her but Joyce rushed over to Dawn just to make sure she was ok.
"Hey! are you good, that scary thing looked dangerous... are all demoms here like that... big and dangerous looking?" Joyce was obviously misunderstanding the situation but Dawn calmed her down with a smile and a wave of her hand.
