Chapter 4: Wizarding World and The Truth
2 weeks later
Hermione started to learn more about magic when she noticed that their school was not going. She missed going to school, but her schooling was a bit different. It started since the trip to France was an early birthday gift. They had been in August, but in a couple of days, school started. "Millie, could you call Narcissa for me or Lucius?" The elf popped up, and she came to see Hermione. "Yes, Narcissa is in her garden. Would you like for me to show you around?"
She nodded and changed into gardening clothes, then followed Millie. "Thank you. Also, where is Draco today? I didn't see him at lunch today," she asked. "Millie, Master Draco is visiting his godfather today, and also Master Lucius is at the Ministry, so today we only have you, Mrs. Narcissa."
Millie walked her to the most beautiful garden ever. "Hermione, are you done reading?" she said, and Narcissa removed her glove. "Yes, I wanted to ask Narcissa when I would be going back to school. You see, September is getting closer, and I noticed we never talked about my education."
"Dear, we start Draco on September 1st because that will be the date when you go to Hogwarts. We hire private tutors, which you will also have classes with. I was thinking to have that talk with you. Also, we may hire a Muggle tutor if you want to continue the schooling you had when you were with your family. But most of the tutoring is languages (English, Latin, and French), math the wizard way, basic spelling, potions, wizard etiquette, and also history of magic. Many courses that you need an introduction for Hogwarts. If you want to have more than muggle stuff, I will approve, but that's mostly what Draco learns. We could also get you any tutor you want to learn about."
Hermione nodded. "I will do the same as Draco. I was just worried about it since we didn't really talk about the fact that school is about to start in the muggle world. But I will be happy if I could still have some of the books that I was learning in my old school to help me with writing and other stuff. Also, I want to be able to still be with my family and have the education they wanted me to have," she said. Then Millie and Narcissa's elf, Aurora, came with a tea tray. "For sure, I was going to take Draco next week to Diagon Alley to grab his material and yours too, so we could make a little outing since we didn't really go out since the funeral.
"Yes, that will be good. In that book that Albus gave me, it talks about the alley. I'm excited to see what it looks like," she said, then took a cup of tea. "I came to help with you. Millie said you like to work in the garden, and it looked like a beautiful day to do work in the garden. Would you like me to help with some of the plants?" she asked, and Narcissa smiled at her. "For sure, I would like some help, Hermione, and you're right. Today is a beautiful summer day to plant stuff."
During the afternoon helping Narcissa, she was happy to learn new plants and also see the magic that was in magical plants. Hermione learned so much that she asked Narcissa if she could get some books on some of the plants and learn about them while she can. Narcissa was happy to see she loved the magic and the plants. Around 3 pm, Draco came to tell his mother that he was back from Severus. "Hello," she said, and she was full of dirt. "Good afternoon. Seeing you helping Mother, did you have a great afternoon with her?" he asked while he took a cup of tea.
"Mother, Uncle asked when we would need it for Potion Class, also if Hermione will be joining class soon," he said, then he sat on one of the garden chairs. "I will message him later tonight. Also, Hermione will be joining you for school. I wanted to go to Diagon Alley soon to get what the tutors need. Would you like to come with me and Hermione since it will be her first time to the alley?"
Draco smiled. "Yes, Mother. Also, should we start to read some subjects this year since this is my last year of tutors before I start school? I'm happy to start learning more spells that will be used next year."
He was overjoyed. He had been craving all summer to play with a wand. The only time he was able to have one was when his tutor taught them to learn magic, and the Ministry limited them to 3 hours a day before the age of 11 years old.
Also, during the summer, he was limited to do magic since Hermione came, since she was not raised as a magical as him. Slowly, he started to show her magic during her time in the library. Most of the time, he was working in the basement in his potion lab so he could start to learn potions that he would need to know for Hogwarts. Then he was reading about magical theory, but he really wanted to help Hermione to learn magic so she didn't look like a Muggleborn. Also, the fact that his father told him that she was a Pureblood that was not raised by us by Muggle made it hard to understand.
Mother is now trying to see if she wanted to take her Muggle class, but by the look of this message that she sent, it was like saying to him, "You will have a new partner for tutors this year."
Also, they had to add dance this year for his class since he needed to start going to balls with a 'sister,' so he will have to learn how to dance with her. But the fact that they will be going to Diagon Alley this week made him so happy. No Muggle tutor for him too. "So are we planning to go tomorrow or in the next few days?" he asked, and he looked at Hermione. "I would love to see Diagon Alley. Hogwarts: A History told me I will need to grab my stuff there. Also, I'm interested to see what Gringotts looks like too," Hermione was happy. It had been really hard the last two weeks for her when it came to talk to the mind healer. Now that she only saw her weekly, it had been a bit easier to not think about the sadness.
She really enjoyed her time at the Malfoy's. She had been working so hard to feel like home. She was so happy when her room was looking more like home than it was at her place with her parents. With her now adoptive parents. Also, learning about magic really helped. Albus was right. This was a good family that the Ministry placed her with. Also, the fact that she would be able to learn magic a year early before a teacher came to teach her about the wizard world.
"I was thinking to make a day, so tomorrow, if you're free, Draco and Hermione, we could go get some books and also get the material we will need to learn about the magical world."
Narcissa was so happy to finally have a daughter. It was a dream coming true, but also she needed to make her pureblood. The perfect pureblood for everyone to enjoy. She almost every her friend have a daughter except for her. She always wanted one. Now that she has one, she wanted the best for her. She had been dressing her like her little doll. Yes, it was sad that she lost her parents, but now she was theirs to take care of. She wanted the best for Hermione, so when Draco asked about the trip, she was happy. Also, another reason she wanted a trip down.
But also the introduction to the magical world will be wonderful for her. A happy little family at the alley.
The children joined her to finish her day in her garden.
Later that evening
Hermione was reading some titles that Narcissa gave to her. She told her that she would need to wear the clothes that Narcissa had picked for her. Because tomorrow it would be an important day for her and her new family. So she asked Millie to make sure that when she would take a bath, that she would need to get her hair ready for tomorrow. "Miss Hermione, your bath is ready. I placed everything you need tonight. If you need help, Millie will be in your room getting the room," Hermione nodded and she got ready to take a great bath.
Millie knew how to make her feel like a princess. She was always smelling good and looking so good. With her help, she was happier and less sad about what happened to her family. Tomorrow would be her introduction as Granger-Davenfort. It would be a new thing to do. Narcissa had given her a book to read about her family that was good wizard and created a lot of new spells and was really good at so many things. She was fascinated by the look of everything that was in this. It was amazing.
She took that fancy bath, got dressed in that new pajama that Narcissa had given her last week because it was warm and she wanted something light. "Millie, could you help me with the hair?" The elf was always making her look so cute for a 9-year-old kid about to turn ten. "What did Narcissa want me to be tomorrow?" Millie put some potions on her hair. "She told me to put your hair down with beautiful curls," she was wrapped with potions and lotions, and then Millie looked at her. "Miss Hermione is ready to go to bed," Hermione took the elf's hand. "Yes, could I have the potions that the mind healer wants me to take?" she said and then moved toward her bed. "Here, Miss Granger. I will see you in the morning," Hermione nodded and then took the History of Davenfort Granger. She wanted to read another chapter before she would fall asleep.
That night she dreamt of what would be her new life as a witch.
The magical world just helped her to see that she would be a great witch. According to the book she read, this was in her blood. Narcissa had been teaching her about the future of that she would be. She really couldn't wait.
The next morning, she was really excited to learn something new. She put on everything that Narcissa had ready for her, also a wizard robe that was something the wizard-like to wear in the world. She was wearing a royal blue robe, almost in the old Victorian look that she read in the lace detail was beautiful. Thigh that was also white with like the lace detail and also cute Mary Janes shoes that matched the outfit. The wizard robe was a little cape that was made of lace and a hat that looked like those cute Victorian ones that she loved in the movies that her mother was taken. She also was able to wear her necklace with her parents. Her hair was styled with beautiful curls.
"Thank you, Millie. It's beautiful," she looked at the hair, and she looked like those cute dolls. "We should go to breakfast. Narcissa and Draco will be waiting," she told the elf and she took the bag that was for her to carry. She followed Millie and then said, "Good morning," took her plate for this morning. It was Egg Benedict with sausage and fresh-cut toast.
She sat at the table and noticed that tea was served this morning. She sat beside Draco and then started eating like the etiquette she was taught since childhood. "Hermione, I love this color. You look adorable," Narcissa mentioned. "Thank you. I love this dress. Thank you for choosing the clothes. Draco also looks great," she looked at the clothes that Draco was wearing. He was also having royal blue color, and Narcissa was also wearing a variation of the color, so they matched. "I thought you may want to be pretty for your first time out in the wizarding world. But yes, you both look so cute. After breakfast, we will get going," Narcissa mentioned and took the paper for the owl that just landed on Lucius' chair.
The paper's name was the Daily Prophet. The image was moving like normally. They started to read the paper in front of her. The week after her parent's funeral, she asked about the moving picture, and Narcissa gave her a little class on the paper and how wizard pictures move.
She finished her breakfast and looked at Draco, who was also about to finish and smiled. "Tell me, Draco, what is your favorite store in Diagon Alley?" she asked after she took the napkin and cleaned her face like a proper lady. "The Quidditch Store, with the broom. Mother says that when I will be attending Hogwarts, I will be allowed to have one of the brooms."
"Yes, Draco, but the training ones are still what you're allowed to use. If your father would be minister, you could have used the normal one, but there were too many accidents in the past. That's why you're only allowed the one you got last year," Narcissa looked tired of talking about that issue. "Are you both done? I would like to stop at Madame Malkin's before noon so we could get Hermione more wizard clothes. Also, Draco, you need more shirts," they both nodded.
"I'm ready," Hermione said, and Draco, "I'm also ready." They both stood, and Draco and Hermione walked to the parlor toward the fireplace that was not lit. "Hermione, since it's your first time, I will get Draco to show you how it's done," she gave a fancy pot and took some powder. "Draco, dear," she looked at his mother. "Diagon Alley," he said and dropped the powder. "You need to say the location and then drop the powder. You will arrive at the fireplace," she saw Draco go in green flame. She learned about the Floo in the book that Narcissa gave her. "Okay, I assume it's my turn," she looked at Narcissa. "Yes, Hermione, dear," she took a handful of powder and then said, "Diagon Alley." She dropped the powder and she opened her eyes. She was in a new place. "You did good for your first time," Draco whispered to her and grabbed her hand. "Thank you," and she brushed the powder away, but there was none, and waited for Narcissa to come out of the fireplace.
Narcissa came, and she saw both her kids standing still. Hermione was looking great, and then she looked at them. "Ready?" she asked, and then they nodded. The shop owner said, "Mrs. Malfoy and Young Malfoy, you have a guest with you. Who is this young lady?" The shop owner said, and Hermione looked at him. "I'm Hermione Granger-Davenfort," she said, and then he looked shocked. It had been a long time since he heard the name. "Welcome to the wizard world, Miss Granger-Davenfort." The Malfoy family walked into the back room, and she saw the brick wall.
Narcissa just walked toward it and pointed her wand to the brick in a pattern. "This entrance to the alley," the brick wall opened, and the street was showing. People looked at the Malfoys in shock. They walked toward a white building saying Gringotts. "First, we should go to Gringotts to see if the Ministry has finished with the vaults, and then we will go shopping," she said, and then Draco looked at his mother. "May I go to the bookstore while you finish in Gringotts?" he asked, and he hoped he could just go shop and not go to the bank. "Sorry, dear, no, you have to come," she said, and then they walked inside the bank.
Hermione was happy but also excited to see what Hogwarts: A History said about it. "We're here for Hermione Granger-Davenfort," she looked at the main goblin. "Yes, Madame Malfoy, we just need to make sure that Miss Davenfort-Granger could you go to the Head Goblin office," the goblin asked, and then Narcissa walked toward the office, and then the Head Goblin looked at her. "Madame Malfoy, I see you have brought Hermione. Before we open the vaults to her, the family contract asks for a blood," he looked at Mrs. Malfoy. "Hermione, in the wizard world, a lot of spells are sealed with blood wards, so could you give us a bit of blood? The goblin will give a knife, and you could drop the blood on the paper. After, I will heal you with magic," after Narcissa explained, she did what she was asked. "Thank you," and Mrs. Malfoy healed her with her wand.
The paper glowed, and then the goblin said, "Well, she has a couple more family, but Gringotts will take care of the vaults. Mostly Pervil and Davenfort-Granger would like to take a tour of them. Also, we will issue a copy of the keys for use, Miss Davenfort-Granger." He said, and then she looked at the paper about the families that she was related to. "Sure," Narcissa said, and then Hermione and Draco followed the group. "Also, may I have a stop to Malfoy Vaults, Head Goblin Greyhock," she said, and then he nodded.
They entered a place with some seater and looked like a ride to go down the bank. "Please take a seat," Greyhock said, and then they did. "We're going pretty down. So don't worry," Draco said, and the train or the cart was moving. Draco was not joking when he said to her that they would be going down. It took almost 5 minutes to reach the bottom of the bank.
"Draco, make sure Hermione stays protected," his mother asked of him, and then they got off the cart, and then he took one of the noise makers and gave one to Hermione. "Shake it," she looked at him, then she walked and made the noise like him, and she saw it. "Dragon," she walked past it, and then they walked toward the main family vaults. "Let's see the Davenfort-Granger one, then we could finish with the Malfoy one after," they walked toward vault number 5. "Miss Davenfort-Granger," the room was full of money, and the vault was deep with money, and Narcissa looked and said, "Well, I think you will be more than fine in the wizarding world. I will make sure that you will be well set, Hermione." She took a bag and then asked the elf to bring jewels and jewelry for Hermione to have at the Manor.
"May I have the Lady Davenfort-Granger Bracelet," she asked the goblin and looked. "Make sure that Hermione has her parent's stuff from the house inside of the vault. Also, transfer what is on the list to the house. All books need to be back in her library," the goblin looked at Mrs. Malfoy. "May the Malfoy elf help with some of the moving around? I think that will be good so we could have this be done by the afternoon," Grayhock asked, and then she looked at Hermione. "
