Mordin's Story

After Aqua had made it home with Gatomon she got dressed into her regular clothes and there was a message in the Dragon Gem's group chat.

"Man, that Sunstreker Cybertronian was a piece of cake!" Uzi messages and adds "If we can take down some kind of big target next, we're totally gonna get famous."

"Hey! We're trying to help people, not get famous!" Alexis points out.

"But if people don't have who we are, how're we going to give them any courage!" Uzi messages.

"She is right, kind of." Aqua messages.

"See!" Uzi messages.

"I don't think that you're necessarily wrong…" Alexis messaged and adds "But should we really be doing this at all if we don't have a reason like with Gaston?"

"You mean we shouldn't be sticking our noses into other people's business?" Uzi asked "I don't know. If someone's in trouble, it's only natural to want to help them out!"

"I mean, I agree with that." Alexis messages "And I guess I was glad we were able to solve the stalker case."

"Plus, what good are our Personas if we don't use them for good!" Uzi added "Don't you agree, Aqua?"

"I want to help people." Aqua messages.

"The same goes for me." Alexis said in agreement

"We don't got much time to be arguing over this either. That Lysandre(?) guy bothers me." Uzi messages

"Yeah. But no getting carried away, you understand?" Alexis messages "And don't do anything to stand out like fail all your exams."

"Oh scrap! Speaking of that, I haven't studied at all…" Uzi messages "What about that star? The one Tokoyami and Dark Shadow gave us. Wonder if that could help us ace the exams…."

"Yeah, I somehow doubt that." Alexis comments

"Robot Hell, I'd settle for just not failing." Uzi comments

"Bargaining isn't going to help you here. We wouldn't use it for that in the first place." Alexis messages "Maybe you should just, I don't know, put some actual effort in? You've still got time."

"Fiiiine…" Uzi messaged and Aqua could here the groan from it.

"Well, I am going to do some studying before bed. Night." Aqua said and closes the messages.

"Hey if you have any questions about Mememntos I will tell you" Gatomon said smiling.

"No, I think I got the gyst of the place and it's clear you don't know who Tokoyami is." Aqua said, thinking.

They both head downstairs and begin to study in the middle booth and with that she gotten smarter from it. After that she went to bed.

The next day, Sunday Aqua was awake and fully dressed, as thinking what to do today, she got a message from Penny on her phone.

"Hey, I saw the forum! Nice job sticking it to that stalker!" Penny messages "My Phantom Aficionado Website came in handy, didn't it?"

"What are you talking about?" Aqua messages

"It's OK, you don't have to say it. I know deep down in my heart that it was useful" Penny messages "Anyway I'm in Remnant, right now. I'd love it if you could come hear me out about your future actions! I'll be waiting at the diner in Remnant. You got to swing by!"

The messages end there and Aqua puts her phone away.

"What is she up to…?" Gatomon asked.

"We should see what she wants." Aqua said and goes to meet with Penny.

Aqua meets up with Penny at the diner and sits with her, she could see behind her glasses that the red and blue haired girl was tired and more obvious when she spoke after the two got some coffee.

"How have things been? You know with the….special activities?" Penny asked then yawned "Oops, hah, sorry about that. I, uh, haven't been getting a lot of sleep lately."

"I see, how come?" Aqua asked concerned

"I've bene staying up managing the Phan-site all night, every night. I think it's called….PR?" Penny explained.

"Wait….Phan-Site?" Aqua asked confused.

"The Phantom Thieves Aficionado Website! Phan-Site for short." Penny said proudly. "You need a catchy name if you want people to notice you. This is all a bit of P-Thieves propaganda!"

"Basically, there's no point to taking down bad guys if nobody's going to know about it." Penny added. "That's why I've started a blog for posts from people you guys saved, while filtering out the haters. We need the Phantom Thieves to be seen in the proper light if we want to make the name popular, right?"

"You've done good, kid." Aqua said impressed. "But there are whispers the Phantom Thieves go by Dragon Gems as well.

"Really?! Just hearing you say that makes my all-nighters worth it! Also I will be sure to add that name to the blog but I will keep the original name of the site, saves times and easier then coming up with a new full name." Penny said happily.

"Though actually, I really want to know how you punish people…" Penny said "Don't worry, I'm not going to ask. It wouldn't be any fun if you just up and told me. After all, the Phantom Thieves or Dragon Gems have a reputatyion for being secretive!"

This made Aqua sweatdrop at that while Penny looks down and said "I…I wish I could be more like you guys somehow. But I'll still be here to draw attention to the stuff you do! You can leave that part to me!"

"I'm going to use my Phan-Site to promote the Phantom Thieves and weed out any negative comments." Penny added smiling "Your popularity is going to be at my mercy….or um, my fingertips. It's like I'll be your strategic image management representative, so to speak."

"Oh, that sounds cool" Aqua admits.

"I knew you'd understand." Penny said proudly. "Anyway I'm going to do everything I can to make sure that title's more than just for show." Through she yawns again and said tired "I've got to say through, managing the Phantom Thieves' reputation is tiring work…"

"The forum gets all sorts of weird posts, including tons of things unrelated to reforming society…" Penny explained "It'd defeat the purpose of the site if the truth of the Phantom Thieves was burid among all that garbage." She smiles "Oh, but you don't need to worry. I'll sort though all the trash."

"Speaking of which, I've actually already found some worthwhile info about our very own school." Penny said smiling "Our quests to boost your popularity can start close to home! I'll give it my all!"

Aqua again sweatdrops at this but she could see Penny seemed motivated and she sees the Moon Confidant card earn a second star.

"I might be overworking myself, though…." Penny said looking down tired and yawns again "Man, I'm exhausted…I think I'd fall asleep on the spot if I weren't talking to you. I should head home…"

"Good idea, get some rest" Aqua said nodding

Penny nods "See you later."

The two part ways and Aqua heads home to the bistro but gets a call from Penny.

"Oh, Aqua? Listen to this!" Penny said "I was checking the Phan-Site earlier, and found a bunch of hater comments about the Phantom Thieves! It got me so mad, I'm not even sleepy anymore. At this point, I might as well pull an all-nighter fighting back!"

"Well, nice hustle there, image manager." Aqua said.

It's strategic image management rep! The title is important. Try to remember the whole thing, okay?" Penny said but she did sound happy. "Well, I'm going to work my butt off! Just watch me! Well duty calls. I better set out for the Battle of the Phan-Site. Time for a wild night of modding and banning!"

With that the call and Aqua giggles and goes in

That night now that Aqua had some time she goes to check the Home Shopping network where again Chris McLain was hosting showcasing the latest items on sale this week.

"Hi everyone, it's time to do some shopping. Here' what we've got for you today!" Chris said and goes to the first item "Here we go, the Relaxation Set! Everything you need for when you're not feeling your best! 1 Recover Oil, 3 Relax Gel, and…3 Alert Capsule! Are you seeing this?! What a great deal!"

"But that's not all! There's more!" Chris said and then moves to the next item "Next up, we have the Bio Nutrient Set! Great for anyone with a green thumb or a love of plants! 1 Mega Fertilizer and 5 Garden Energy! These will both be in one set! What a steal!"

"Wow! They're both such great items, I can't decide which one to get!" Chef said reading the line.

"All right! This is a limited item!" Chris said "Today's the one and only day it'll be available! And of course the price is just right! You won't see this kind of deal ever again!"

Aqua thinks and nods as she orders the Bio Nutrients Set. It was the last one apparently but she was happy to get it. After that she heads back over to Remnant City and buys the Aojiru which was a Nasty one that boosts up her Guts She then goes to work at Kermit's Ramon and Beef Bowl Shop.

To say the least the day was hectic as there were a lot more customers than there were last time. Aqua had to work double time and remember each order, luckily Gatomon was there to help her remember which order goes to which customer.

Soon it settled down and Aqua was washing dishes and sitting by her was Optimus Prime who watches her and said concerned "…. You appeared to have a difficult time there."

"Yeah, a second time working here was intense." Aqua said stopping and looks at him.

"Can't you ask your manager to hire more people? You were extremely busy…" Optimus said to her. "Employees being overworked is becoming a real problem in the workplace. That's concerning…Hm, I should remember this." He smiles and said "I'll leave my payment here. Thank you for the food."

He gets up and heads for the exit and Aqua smiles nodding at that. Gatomon said from the back "Wasn't that the politician who gives speeches in front of the station?"

"Yeah I believe it was" Aqua said nodding

"He was worried about employees in the workplace, huh?" Gatomon said thinking "Well, I think he knows who you are now. We should go to the station square again sometime soon."

A while later it was the end of shift Kermit arrived and said "Whoa, good work! It seems there were a lot of customers today, but you handled it well on your own!"

"It was tough" Aqua said sighing

"I can understand we were crowded today as we usually get on Yakiniku Day…I wonder if there was some event happening nearby." Kermit said thinking "I paid you a little extra today. Good work, keep it up!" He hands her 8,800 credits and leaves

"You were amazing today, dealing with so many orders!" Gatomon said from the bag.

Aqua nods and felt this defiantly improved her proficiently. With that they head home for the day as tomorrow was another school day.

The next day on the train Aqua overhead a conversation between some office workers

"Whoa, what's up with the goggles?" The Dolled-Up Office Worker asked, "You going snowboarding or something?"

"I hear the cedar's blooming later than usual…Climate change and what have you." The Bespectacled Office Worker said "Guh….Pollen allergies suck…I couldn't go to the mountains ever if I wanted to…My eyes and nose would gush like rivers."

"That sounds awful…" The Dolled-Up Office Worker said.

"That's right, the news said pollen season was starting later than usual this year." Gatomon notes from in the bag. "Looks like the pollen problems have only just begun. People are about to have some itchy eyes. This might affect Mementos the same way weather does."

"Oh I see." Aqua said nodding.

She soon gets to the train transfer Aqua was waiting for the train to Citadel and Alexis arrives.

"Morning…" Alexis yawns approaching tired "Ungh…"

Aqua looks concerned and asked "What's up?"

"Actually….I've been having this feeling that someone's watching me…" Alexis admits "No, it can't be…Oh! Maybe I just can't shake off the feeling of infiltrating a Palace! At the Palace, we're always cautious of not being noticed, you know! So it has to be my imagination…Yeah…"

"Well let me know if anything else happen." Aqua said and Alexis nods and they board the train.

A while later while in class with Yor there was a notification in the Dragon Gems group chat.

"Hey, don't you think the atmosphere at school's kind of different now?" Uzi messages

"You mean with there being no Gaston?" Alexis asked

"Yeah, nobody ever talked about him out in the open like this before." Uzi messages.

"That is true." Aqua messaged nodding

"I wish someone'd just thank us for it or something…" Uzi messages.

"Either way, everything has worked out for the best." Alexis said "After all, Gaston's actually been punished for his crimes. That's victory enough for me."

"I agree" Aqua messages smiling.

"I wonder what's going happen to him now." Uzi messages "I mean, he's a famous criminal at this point, right? He's gonna have to deal with people hating him forever…"

"That might be true, but I don't have any sympathy for him." Alexis messages "He got what he deserved."

"For sure." Uzi said and that ends the messages.

They continued the classes and soon it was After School and Aqua gets another message notification from Penny.

"Hey, I have some new info for you!" Penny messages "I saw it on the Phan-Site, but I've heard about it at school too. Anyway, there's a girl at school whose bullying has gone too far. I want to help the victim, but that's impossible for me…"

"But I bet the Phantom Thieves could do something about it!" Penny continued "I mean you already changed the heart of that stalker, so this should be a breeze, right?"

"Yeah, this should be a piece of cake." Aqua messages.

"You're amazing!" Penny messages "The bully is a brown-haired girl that can be confused for a guy at a passing glance, she's frequently seen standing out front of the school entrance. And from what I can tell, her name is Jo. I know you can handle this!"

Gatomon nods and said "Thanks to Penny we got info on the target, we should meet at the hideout"

"Yeah, luckily I heard nothing of the roof being locked yet. So we can use it to discuss it."

They head for the roof and meet with Uzi and Alexis and they settled down.

"If we're all here…you want to go to Mementos, right?" Uzi said smiling.

"What are you talking about? Don't we need to study for exams?" Alexis asked.

"Eh, don't worry about that stuff." Uzi said shrugging. "Let's ignore the details and just go charging in head-first!"

"That's easy for you to say…but we don't even have a target." Alexis brings up.

"That's actually not a problem anymore. Some intel has come in from Penny." Gatomon said smiling.

"Ooh, perfect timing! Let's just go in right now then!" Uzi said excitedly.

"Geez, you'll do anything to avoid studying, huh…?" Alexis said sighing.

"We won't be going in right now, but we can discuss the info on the target to agree if we should take it." Aqua said and nods to Gatomon while Uzi pouts sighing grumbling.

"Alright. Do you guys remember the most important step the Phantom Thieves need to take before they can steal someone's heart?" Gatomon asked.

"Come on, just tell us…" Uzi said shaking her head.

"Oh…do you mean the calling card?!" Alexis guessed. "But hang on…did we send one the last time?"

"No, we didn't for Sunstreaker" Aqua said shaking her head

"The Treasure materializes when we change the target's subconcious with a calling card." Gatomon said "That's the rule when dealing with a Palace. But in Mementos, it seems like we can just go for the target immediately."

"Wait, what? We don't need a calling card or nothing?" Uzi asked surprised.

"Something else already exists that fulfills that role." Gatomon said. "Fortunately for us, Penny put a comment up in the forum saying that Phantom Thieves are coming. For a small target, that's enough of a calling card. That alone will put some fear in them for a while."

"Even that Sunstreaker must have seen Penny's comments about him on the Phan-Site." Gatomon continued to explain "And that's why the Nav picked up on him."

Alexis was surprised "…Can we really leave something that important to someone else?!"

"The desires of the Mementos Shadows are nothing compared to those of the Palace rulers." Gatomon explained. "Still, we need to unanimously agree on our target. No ignoring the rules, even for smaller ones. Anyway, let's get go discussing the intel we've gathered!"

Aqua nods and things, it was clear that the Shadows of Mementos commanded over the Batling shadow henchman and so were independent until they possibly gain their Palace and so change there guard.

"The intel is on an arrogant brown-haired bully. She's a student at Citadel Academy." Gatomon explained "Things have gone a little too far for just bullying through. She's abusing and blackmailing kids."

"She's the perfect target!" Uzi said in anger "Come on, let's take her down!"

"Are you sure you aren't just excited to go to Mementos?" Alexis asked her "Then again, we can't really leave a girl like that be…We should go."

"No objections, right?" Gatomon asked and Aqua nods to that "Mm…we're good to go if you're okay with it. That's a unanimous decision! Okay, all that's left now is to take down the target in Mementos!"

"We will eventually but given these are small targets, we should gather more" Aqua said

The others agree and dismiss the meeting for now as Aqua heads down to leave the school she sees J talking to another student who is part of the volleyball team.

"…Was there anything else that cause your attention?" J asked the student "Was he acting any different after that strange posting went up?"

"Ummmm…I think he was the same always, but I'm not sure…" The scared volleyball player said "I heard he's dangerous, so I try to keep my distance from him…"

Aqua keeps going and head back to Metru-Nui.

Once Aqua was back on the street she goes to Mordin's clinic to sign up to do a trial with Mandrake and Gatomon left to go explore. Aqua and Mordin Solus were in the examine room and Aqua was given a cup full of a green liquid.

"Here you go…The effects should be instentanious this time if my calculations are correct." Mordin said to Aqua.

"Okay, bottoms up" Aqua said and downs the liquid but nothing happened yet

Mordin looks at her "…Let's see. Eyes are focused. Look this way. One, two, three, four…Nothing yet, huh?"

Aqua then holds her temples as she feels her mouth like it's burning….and her nose was itchy…

"Ah, there it is. The inhibitory effect is just as I had hoped." Mordin said nodding "Your weight was the primary reason it took longet to kick in than expected…Yes, this is what I expected from a teenaged human." He notes it down.

"We're making great progress. Practice makes perfect, correct?" Mordin said "Okay, hold tight. Once I compile all the data, we can move on…"

Suddenly the phone rang and Mordin answers it and said "Hello, Mordin Medical Clinic of Internal Medicine. How can I help you?" He listens "…An emergency, huh? But we're not a designated hospital….Besides, the head physician here is Mordin Solus. Oh…?!" He looks at the phone, apparently the person on the other end hung up. He puts the phone back in the port and said "Rather rude, just hanging up on someone like that."

"What was that about?" Aqua asked him

"That was unexpected" Mandrake said

"Oh, he basically just called the wrong number." Mordin explained "An ambulance driver was looking for the transfer location. All the designated hospitals are full." He thinks "But to think they'd accidentally call a general practitioner…Must've been a new paramedic…He did seemed to at least know my name though."

"Why would he know your name and it would be bad?" Aqua asked

"I've been blacklisted by that larger medical community." Mordin explained "They nicknamed me the Plague…I did work in STG with creating a genophage but the name was due to a grave medical error I made."

"A medical error?" Aqua asked.

"Sounds serious" Mandrake said concerned.

"This goes back to my old job…I used to work at a university hospital in the city." Mordin replied saying. "I was never actually convicted of anything, but I'm still considered a pariah in the medical industry." He looks at Aqua. "…Does that scare you? I mean participating in clinical trials run by a doctor like that?"

"No I don't mind at all" Aqua told him.

"The past is the past. What matters is the present." Mandrake said.

"Hmmm…you are seriously one strange Earthling." Mordin said thinking. "Well, that's fine. Being ostracized has enabled me to focus on my own research and development. Regardless, I look forward to working with you."

"I'll be sure to add some additional 'medicine' for you, my young guinea pig." Mordin told her.

Aqua sweatdrops but felt her bond with Mordin is growing even deeper. She sees the Death Confidant card get three stars and a new ability Sterillization which added more healing items to the clinic.

The phone rings again and Mordin answers "Hello, Dr. Mordin's Clinic of Internal Medcine…What? One order of teriyaki chicken?" He said surprised and hangs up. He looks to Aqua "…You're all good for today. You can go home now. Come again soon, if you're still alive."

Aqua nods as she feels her Guts increased from taking part in this clinical trial.

"Alright, take care." Mordin said.

Aqua heads back to LeBlanc but then gets a call from Mordin.

"Hey, my young guinea pig. I have to talk to about something." Mordin said "You…haven't told anyone about my drugs, correct?"

"Of course not." Aqua said

"Yeah, we kept it to ourselves" Mandrake said.

"Alright. I mean, part of the deal is that you're strictly prohibited from sharing anything that happens here, so." Mordin said. "I guess I'll believe you, for now. Feels like I've been getting a lot more patients asking for drugs lately. Wonder where they keep hearing about me…. It's been really bugging me"

"However, that's all I wanted to ask, I guess. I will see you soon." Mordin said and ends the call.

Aqua goes into the café and Vito lets her know her package arrives and she takes it to her room.

Moon is now Rank 2 and Death is rank 3 now Aqua has to prepare for the Mid-Term Exams
