Knight of Humanity (High School DxD/FGO - Mash Kyrielight SI Chapter 4)
Azazel? As in the Leader of the Grigori?
"Uh-huh...Hmm...Aaah...Emm-hmm...Haaaa...Hmmm...Really?" Mash said in a bored tone.
Was he...calling because he's angry at Mash for saving me? Why is he calling her? Are we in trouble? Is Big Sister Mash in trouble for adopting me?
No. No, Raynare is wanted by the Grigori. So, they're not angry at us, right?
"Fascinating. Good luck with your attempts at making a Machine Spirit Familiar. However, if I find any magical drone flying in Kuoh, I'm gonna hit them with a special Light Bullet that would not just destroy said drone, but would then travel down the connection to the Familiar's owner, and fry their eyes." I didn't need the life bond to tell Big Sister was irritated by the Fallens' Leader. "Now if that's all, I'm ending this call and blocking your number-"
"Wait! I can heal you and your little sister!" A small shout came out of the phone.
Mash frowned a bit, before looked up to God for answer, before sighing and putting Azazel on speaker.
"You get 30 seconds to make your case."
"I've been studying Sacred Gears for centuries, and since that involves the nature of the soul, if I can get a scan of you and Little Miss Asia, I could find something to patch the wound without you constantly sacrificing part of your lifeforce." Azazel quickly explained.
"Not interested in me nor my little sister being anyone's guinea pig. Pass."
"Not a guinea pig. A patient!"
"Same difference with people like you." Mash rolled her eyes.
"What do you have against doctors!?" Azazel shouted, sounding offended.
"Nothing. Those of the medical profession have my respect. Mad scientists on the other hand, those I'll never trust." Mash said with finality.
"That's hurts, Miss Kyrielight. That cuts deep." Azazel said, sounding very sad.
"Mad scientists?" I couldn't help but ask.
"In my career I've met a lot of so-called 'scientist' that kinda went off the deep end, in terms of sanity, and just simply kept going with their experiments till something crazy, dangerous, stupid, or most likely a combination of the three, happened. And Azazel is most definitely a mad scientist." Mash said.
"Guilty~." Azazel's said with pride.
"I'm just surprise he hasn't set himself on fire till now." Mash shrugged.
"Technically that may have happened a few times." He sheepishly admitted.
Mash let out an amused huff.
"Regardless, what do you want?" Mash asked.
"Weeelll..." The Grigori Leader spoke with a teasing tone. Something about it annoyed me.
Mashed scowled at it too. "I am not saying that phrase."
"Oh come on. I'm willing to spend all of my genius here. I'm not asking for much~." Azazel whined.
"Kussssh, kusssh, You're, breaking, kusssh up." Mash started making static sound noises as her finger went to the "close call" button.
"Seriously? Come on, you are literally standing in your backyard. You're not even making it convincing." Azazel protested.
Mash blinked at that, then slowly looked around, while continuing the phone call.
"Uh-huh. I'm hanging up and blocking you." She looked higher, as if to find something on the rooftops. Her eyes held a light glow.
"Okay, then how about letting me study that Holy Sword you never use?" Azazel suggested.
"You're not getting anywhere near that thing." Big Sister kept looking around, then she stopped and looked like she was thinking deeply about something.
"Fine. A spar with someone of my choosing. It's not a trap, just someone on a high enough level, that you can't finish the fight in one punch."
"Not interested."
Mash had a contemplative look, then raised an eyebrow as an idea came to her. A small feeling of eureka came from our bond. Mash looked straight up, and narrowed her eyes.
"Okay, how about this? Allow me to visit, do some diagnostics. Nothing invasive, or uncomfortable, and you don't have to got to any labs or all that." Azazel spoke with confidence, as if this was this goal all along.
"Uh-huh. Emm-hmm." The glow in Mash's eyes slowly grew brighter, till her irises were hidden by the Light.
"Wait, seriously? You're okay with that one? I mean, yeah, great!"
"Hmm, hmm, yep." A savage grin came to Big Sister's face. She raised a hand into the sky, and a magic circle was formed. Large enough to cover half of our house.
"So Miss Mash, how about I come over on your next weekend? Might as well make sure everything's okay as quickly as possible, and that we don't miss anything." Azazel said quickly.
"Uh-huh, yeah." Mash made a finger gun with the arm pointing up and large amounts of magic power started gathering into a ball of Light in the center of a magic circle.
"Then we could maybe sit down, I know this good cafe in Kuoh. Talk about the result alone, so as not to scare the kid. Doctor-patient confidentiality and all, guaranteed." I could hear the smile in the Fallen's voice.
"Alright. Sure."
"Wow. You really agreeing to all of this? It actually sound like you're just blowing me off...Mash, what are you doing?" Azazel's voice suddenly changed to that of a child, caught in the halls outside on bedtime.
The Light Sphere grew large and dense within the circle, it was like a giant lightbulb. A room sized lightbulb. I had to place a hand over my forehead and shadow my eyes to keep looking.
"Emm-huh." Mash made a noise like she was agree to the conversation, while a slow cat-like smile came to her face. The feeling from our bond was definitely one of...mischief. Big Sister was being naughty.
"Mash? Mash, what are you doing? Large scale magic like that, is definitely bound to be noticed by people in Kuoh." Azazel said hastily.
"Uh-huh. How interesting that you know what I'm doing in Kuoh, when you should be in the Underworld at the Grigori HQ." Mash smirked.
"Mash, please think about this! That's a billion dollar equipment! What if the debris falls and hits someone!?"
"Calibrating angle. Adjusting for planetary gravity." Mash said to herself. "Also you're right. Thanks, Azazel. Increasing power."
The Light Sphere shined brighter, letting out a whirl sound now. Then it was forcibly shrunken to half it's size, making it denser.
"Mash, you'll cause such a disruption to the efforts of hiding the supernatural, that it would take weeks to fix!" Azazel pleaded.
"Azazel, over the last few years the numbers of fucks I had were slowly approaching zero. After the latest incident, it had officially fallen into the negatives." Mash spoke, and I felt a sense of tiredness from our bond. I wanted to hug her, but I shouldn't interrupt her concentration with a large spell.
"Come on, Mash. Aren't you suppose to be a Knight? A paragon of goodness and mercy? An example to everyone else in the Church to follow."
"I left the Church three years ago."
"Technically, their statement is that you're on leave-"
"Calibrating done."
"Okay, okay. You win. You tell me, what do you want? I swear I'm looking for that brat, but she up and vanished. So some groups seem to have founded out about your situation, and snatched her. I'm working on it, but until then, please just let me help you." Azazel said with a calm passion.
He seemed to genuinely want to help Big Sister, but likely didn't know how to come out and say that, thus went about it in a roundabout way. Is that what they call a tsundere?
"...Do you know that ever since we met, I had to consistently change my phones."
"Eerrrrrr," The Fallen Angel's voice was like that of one caught with their hand in a cookie jar. I could even imagine him looking around shiftily.
"It was so odd how upon getting them, within a month they would be somehow hacked, and I find your number in my contact list. I had to spend a lot of money on burner phones to avoid that."
"...I can explain."
"I already figured it out." Big Sister was about to fire the spell.
"Mash!" Azazel shout of emergency stayed Big Sister's hand.
"Yeah?"
"...There's gonna be a lot of investors, and other groups, annoying the shit out of me if you do this?" He said lamely.
"Good."
"Umm, M-Mash?"
The conversation halted, as Big Sister looked toward me, and I could even feel the Fallen somehow looking at me through the mobile.
"Yes, Asia?"
"Isn't, um, wouldn't using a spell like this in the middle of a city cause problem to a lot of people?" I offered, hoping that would make things end peacefully.
"Yeah, you tell her little miss!" Azazel encouraged.
"Azazel was likely using that magic satellite to spy on us while we're showering or changing clothes." Mash deadpanned.
"Fire away, Onee-chan." I said back in the same tone, while practicing my Japanese. Multi-tasking, right?
"WAIT-"
Mash flicked her finger back, like firing an imaginary gun.
BOOM!
=====
A colossal beam of Light shot out into space.
A few seconds later, Azazel's spy satellite was blown to pieces.
=====
Back on the ground, I could see something in the sky making a small explosive spark. The whole neighborhood was in uproar around us from the noise we made.
"And Azazel? If you wanna come for a strictly medical visit, bring a Seraph to chaperone." Mash ended the call, the phone letting out a click sound.
"Big Sister?" I oddly wasn't worried about the effect this had on the masquerade. I was curious about something else.
"Yeah?"
"What was the phrase, Mr. Azazel made you say, that you hated so much?"
"Ah," Big Sister looked away with a blush on her face.
A large feeling of embarrassment and shame, along with a hint of nostalgia, amusement, and the tiniest bit of joy came through the life bond.
"A few years back I was hunting down the corrupt organizations within the Church, in order to end their abusive research. After getting to the Holy Sword Project-Although not fast enough," Mash frowned, before shaking her head and continuing. "I was looking for the Sigurd Institute but it went underground, changing their location. By luck, I happen to run to Azazel back then and asked him for help." The blush came back, as she looked to the side, and scratched her cheek with a finger. "I had nothing to offer him, so he jokingly told me to act out a role, and I ended up saying...'a phrase' that, for w-whatever reason had him so stunted, he helped me without thinking. Since then, he's been bothering me, whenever he finds me."
"What was the phrase?"
=====
"Miss Kyrielight," Rias Gremory greeted me in the Occult Research Club room, along with Miss Sona. Both having their Peerages with them. I was brought here straight after arriving at school, since the devils were busy all morning erasing a lot of people's memories.
It was already afternoon, half the school day done, and all the normal students, not knowing of the supernatural world, just think the day passed by very fast.
"We wanted to ask you about this morning-"
"Grigori Governor Azazel is a pervert!"
"What?" Rias said, as she and Sona seemed thrown back by my sudden remark. Yet I had to voice it.
"Well, while I'm sure that's definitely true, could please elaborate?" Akeno, Rias's Club Vice President and Queen asked with an amused smile.
"He, He..." I frowned, and pushed down my embarrassment on Big Sister's behalf. "He did something horrible to Big Sister!"
Shock went throughout a room, as the devils looked among themselves. Issei stepped forward with worry, and another look I didn't understand.
"What did he do?" He asked.
"He..." I gathered up my strength and spoke. "A few years back, In order to get his help, he had Mash act like a h-h-housewife and t-tell him..."
"R-roleplay?" Issei said, obviously as shocked as I was.
I closed my eyes to focus, trying to emulate how Big Sister acted, when she showed me what she did. I looked toward Issei with joy and love and smiled. Acting out the role felt easier somehow with Issei.
"'Darling~ Welcome home. I missed you so much~'." I went and hugged Issei, pressing my chest against him, like Big Sister told me she acted, and look up at his red face. "'But I have this little problem, can you please help me?'" I looked at Issei with wide eyes, and tilted my head to the side.
Silence fell on the room.
Blood exploded out of Issei's nose as he fell back unconscious.
"Issei!" I along with Rias and others looked toward Issei in worry.
A few seconds later he woke up and waved us off.
"I'm okay, I'm okay. I'm up." He stood, then looked at me with complete seriousness. "However, Asia, you're right." Issei gritted his teeth as tears began falling from his eyes.
"Fallen Angels are evil and all of them need to go explode!"
I nodded firmly.
