Don X Don (High School DxD Miracle Child SI Chapter 1)

Xenovia Quarta (8 Years Old)

Xenovia was nervous about her supposed new home with her guardian-Well, mother, Sister Griselda.

They were assigned by the Church to live, for an indeterminate amount of time, in this relatively remote town in the countryside of Rome.

She looked to her side to see their blond companion that her mother said they had to pick up along the way.

"Huh. Nice place. Seems quiet and out of the way." Said the blond shorty, Milo.

He was an orphan and knew about the supernatural side of the world. That's all she really knew about him thus far. He seemed...okay, but way too easy going.

"I believe it's better to think of it as close community, thus a bigger family that God has graced us." Sister Griselda gave her little wisdom.

"Ah! So it's like that. God truly is great." Xenovia couldn't help but smile at her mother's words.

"Yeah, no. I've already been in an orphanage. Having a dozen 'brothers' and 'sisters' is just a constant battle between monsters, using wholesome titles." Milo deadpanned.

"Hey! Apologize to moth-To Sister Griselda right now. Spitting on her words is the same as spitting on God's generosity." Xenovia instantly rounded on him, frowning and looking like she was going to start another scuffle.

"Woah, chill out, spitfire." Milo chuckled and smiled. "I'm just saying, if 'everyone here is like family', either there will be a lot of fake pleasantries, or everyone gets on everyone's nerves much easier." He said in an easy-going tone.

"You're doing it again!" Xenovia stepped up toward him.

That's what bothered her about the kid. Milo didn't seem to care for what anyone said, or could saying opposing things just because. He just...didn't seem to care for respecting his elders, or fear their authority.

"Now, now," Sister Griselda placed a hand on her daughter's shoulders stopping her. "Xenovia, what did I say to going for your fists when you're angry?"

"Sorry, mom." Xenovia said, looking down and ashamed.

"And Milo," here Sister Griselda gave the brat a smile that carried a pressuring aura of punishment, if he continued misbehaving. "I've told you twice now not to antagonize other people."

"I'm not trying to." Milo however seemed nonchalant, as he rested his hands behind his head, and gave a wide cheerful grin. "but Xenny needs to learn to be calm with people that disagree with her. ...Also her angry pout is cute." He added.

"Y-You!" Xenovia felt her face heat up. "I'm not pouting! And my face isn't c-c-cute!" She said, showing her battle face, baring her teeth, to emphasis her point.

"God, you're adorable-Ow, ow, ow." Milo cried out as Sister Griselda grabbed his ear.

"Milo~." Sister Griselda said with a pleasant, but warning voice.

"Sorry Sister Griselda, sorry Xenovia." He said hurryingly. "But I'm telling the truth! Lying would have been a sin!"

Sister Griselda sighed, which shaking her head, trying to hide her smile. She let got of Milo's ears, feeling he was disciplined enough, as she walked with the two children following her, in silence.

Although one was whistling a tune without a care in the world, and the other's face was so red, steam was coming out of it.

"Now, what I'm going to tell you two is of the utmost importance, and it is something you must never speak of to any outsider of this Church." Sister Griselda took the two kids aside, once they reached the local church, and were greeted by a surprising amount of staff, of priests and nuns, for a church to such a small town, in the middle of nowhere.

"Yes, Sister Griselda!" Xenovia nodded, trying to look as serious as possible.

"Hmm." Milo nodded as well, looking curious more than serious, but thankfully attentive all the same.

"The reason why we were stationed in this town indefinitely, is that we are meant to protect the Miracle Child that lives here." Sister Griselda revealed.

Xenovia gasped in awe, as her eyes widened at the grand news. To think she would not only get to witness a Miracle Child, but also be charged with protecting them? Truly, today and this mission was a great gift from God.

"What's a 'Miracle Child'?" Milo asked, tilting his head.

"How could you not know that?" Xenovia rounded on him, looking shocked, to which he just shrugged.

"It's not like the old priest I used to live with, was all that enthusiastic about explaining stuff what I found out about the supernatural. Everything extra he had to do, seemed like a chore to him. Heck, even normal stuff he had to do, like teaching basic reading, math, history and all the rest." Milo said back.

"I see," Sister Griselda interjected. "Well, if you have any question, Milo, then be sure to ask me. I will always make time to help you learn and guide you." She made a mental note, to send a report to her superiors that Father Henry needs someone with him, to have a firm hand, to keep him industrious.

"I'll hold you onto to that." Milo smiled and nodded.

"Very well," she didn't expect him to act any different. "Now, back to the topic. A Miracle Child is a child born to an Angel and a Human, a very rare and difficult offspring to happen, due to how strict the rules governing Angels and how even the sinful actions can cause them to Fall."

For the first time, Milo's expression broke from nonchalance, to confusion.

"Then how did..." He asked, moving his hands in random gestures, as if not sure what gesture to use.

Sister Griselda wasn't surprised at Milo's knowledge of sex, as children from rougher areas, tend to learn and grow up faster, after all.

"By keeping their faith, and only love, without any sinful thoughts in their hearts." Sister Griselda said with a smile, as such a thing is why Miracle Children as considered a 'miracle', and that their angelic parent stayed Pure, rather than Falling.

"Bullshit, but okay." Milo said, looking slack-jawed.

"You!" Xenovia cried out. "Are you calling Mother a liar!" She draw her arms back.

"What? No, I know she's not lying." Milo said dismissively to girl. "I'm just...shocked at the whole concept really." He said, explaining his view as much as he could.

"Tsk, that doesn't mean to be rude to mother." Xenovia said, backing down from the looking her mother gave her.

"Now," Sister Griselda spoke, as the kids calmed down. "Back to the topic, we are here to protect the Miracle Child, and act as their guardian. Xenovia and I, that is." She explained.

"Yeah," Xenovia said with a cocky grin. "So you're not to cause trouble for us, and just sit down and be polite in the background."

Xenovia felt completely confident in her new mission-Nay, her new life goal. She was going to rub it in Milo's face later when they're alone, that she's the one meant to protect, the Miracle Child while he's just here to watch. After all, she was a natural-born Holy Sword wielder, while Milo was just a normal, if slightly sturdy, kid. He had no Holy Affinity at all, nor a Sacred Gear, thus it was natural for him to feel jealous of her, right?

"So why am I also learning about this? This sounds like important Church Stuff." Milo just smiled back at Xenovia, but still asked about the point the girl brought up. Why was he here for this?

Xenovia pouted that Milo didn't have more of a reaction.

"Milo," Sister Griselda began. "From what Father Henry said about you, you are...not really all that pious." Milo blinked at that, while Xenovia was struggling whether to laugh in superiority, or scowl at him. "But he said that you are a reliable friend to all the other children, even helping those struggling either with their chores or their faith." Sister Griselda continued with a smile. "He said that, while you didn't listen that well to the Sunday lessons when you lost interest, he could feel your strong faith when you prayed with everyone else."

"...Okay?" Milo blinked at that.

"That's why," Sister Griselda kneeled down so she could speak at Milo's eye level. She gently placed a hand on his shoulder. "I hoped that you can by her friend, the Miracle Child, Rachelle Donato." She explained. "Everyone else would be too conscious of her parentage, but you would be able to see her, as just a girl your age, that needs a friend. Can you be that friend for her, Milo?"

Xenovia wanted to protest, saying that she could carry out that duty too, but knew her mother was probably right. After all, how could she interact with the Miracle Child as anything other than a piece of divinity on earth.

"Yeah, sure." Milo smiled and nodded. "Pretty sure, Xenovia can also help with that too."

"Eh?" Xenovia blinked.

"What? You're gonna be around a lot, right? Then that would make it easier for you to protect her, and the best way to protect her is to also be her friend after all." He explained like it was obvious.

"I..." Xenovia looked surprised at Milo's olive branch. Maybe she was wrong about him being an uncaring little brat. She looked toward her mother, who nodded to her. "Right! Of course, I'll take up that duty."

"Yo, seriously, chill." Milo deadpanned.

"You're the one who should be more serious. This is a grand duty given to us by God!" Xenovia cried out.

"Children," Sister Griselda spoke up, cutting the argument before it started. "There is something else you must learn, the reason why this mission is so important, that I myself will be station here for an undetermined amount of time." She said, to which Xenovia's eyes widened, as understand came to her.

While she was young, she knew how strong and important her mother-figure was in the Church. Thus for her to be placed personally to protect this specific Miracle Child...could there be something more special about them?

"Is it related to which Angel is the girl's parent?" Milo asked, to which Xenovia looked at him surprised, that she was following along that much.

"Yes." Sister Griselda nodded. "For one, her parent or rather mother, is one of the Four Great Seraphs." Both Xenovia and Milo's eyes widened in shock. "I believe you understand the enormity of why this mission is so important."

Sister Griselda gave them a moment to absorb what she said.

"Holy shit." Milo was the first one to speak.

"I, I actually have to agree with Milo. This child is too important, why isn't she in the Vatican?" Xenovia asked.

"It's an extra layer of protection, so she can train and grow up in safety before she lives in the Vatican, and faces any challenges that come up then, in her stay there." Sister Griselda explained.

"Who cares about that!?" Milo waved Xenovia off, which just made her wrathful face grow more wrathful. No, she didn't look pouty and puffed up. "I wanna know whose that fucking Absolute Chad, that went on all True Love-style on Gabriel of all people! Archangels-Seraphs, whatever. You know what I mean."

"Milo!" Xenovia squeaked out from the sheer indignant shock.

"What? It's a legitimate quest-YEOUCH!" Milo held his head, as he saw Sister Griselda holding her hand up. Then it lit up with Holy Power.

"Did...Did you just hit me with Holy Power?" Milo asked slightly fearful.

"No, but your bottom will definitely know what Holy Power feels like, if you don't behave yourself, child." Sister Griselda said with a pointed smile.

Milo blinked as he weighted his option on how to respond. A determined look came to his face.

He looked Sister Griselda straight in the eyes, and replied.

"Kinky."

Sister Griselda blinked, completely thrown off by the reply, having expected Milo to just apologize. She wasn't going to actually follow throw on hitting him with Holy Power. At least, not until he's trained to much higher durability. Her smile still turned scary though, promising punishment for his cheek.

But before anything could happen, the door to the office they were in opened up, and an old priest, Father Cornelius, a retired Exorcist, entered with another child, walking near next to him.

The girl had an aura about her. Like she was above mere mortals, her brown hair beautiful and shiner in a way that couldn't be described. Her round face, held an innocence yet sacred look to it, as if she was something that can not, and must not be tarnished by the world. Her attired was a simple white church robes, but the most distinct thing about her was the gold rosario she wore around her neck, that held sharpened edges, and had a white small jewel hidden in the middle, only shown a small piece of it. The rosario lit up a bit upon her entering the room, making the girl blink for a second in surprise, before instantly regaining her formal aloof dignified look.

"Ah, Sister Griselda, welcome to Bolsena. I hope the trip wasn't anything difficult." Father Cornelius greeted them, although for a second his eyes lingered on Milo, before shifting between him and Xenovia, to look at them both. "And these young charming gentleman and lady are?" He smiled kindly.

"Thank you, for taking us in and your kind words, Father Cornelius." Sister Griselda smiled and gave a small bow, to which Xenovia emulated. Milo nodded and gave a little wave, to which Xenovia scowled, and the Miracle Child, Rachelle also frown at. "These are my daughter, Xenovia, and my ward, Milo."

"It's good to see you, Father, and it's an honor to meet you, Lady Donato." Xenovia said formally to the priest, but spoke to the Miracle Child with near reverence.

"Yo, I'm Milo, what's up?" Milo greeted in a friendly manner.

Father Cornelius blinked at that, before letting out a small chuckle. Sister Griselda just sighed the boy's completely lack of formality, even if she knew it was coming. Xenovia just looked shocked, at Milo's complete disregard to standing in front the literal child, of one of the Four Great Seraphs.

Rachelle's reaction however was the one most unique. She looked shocked at Milo's attitude, before mouthing his name in surprise. Her eyes widened, looking at him with some awe and surprise, before her face gained a harsher look.

"Child, do you know who you're speaking to?" Rachelle said with a cold tone, trying to look intimidating and dismissive.

Light glowed around Rachelle as a pair of wings unfurled from her back, while a feeling of awe and reverence hit the priest, nun and little Exorcist-in-training. Not only that, but everyone in the room, felt the power of Holy Light be imbued within them, and recover any mental fatigue they might have had, and even made their faith feel stronger, and thus empower them for it.

It was the effect of Rachelle's Sacred Gear, Divine Sanctum. The ability to Bless an area or a person with Holy Light, strengthening them temporarily, and even allowing them to use Holy Power, thus making any Light Magic or equipment even more devastating to Devils or non-human beings. For those of the Abrahamic faiths, it's effects are even more potent, giving a strong feel of reverence to the Lord, and certainty to their heavenly mission.

At least that what happened with Father Cornelius, Sister Griselda and Xenovia.

Rachelle's eyes widened as Milo just had a mischievous grin on his face.

"Oh my, you don't know who you are? I am so sorry, amnesia really is a scary thing. To think it even hits children nowadays." Milo said back, in dramatic sounding concern.

Rachelle was so thrown off, her Sacred Gear deactivated. Although she still kept her wings out.

"What? No, you baffoon! I know who I am-"

"Phew, thank the Lord! You didn't lose your memory. Truly, it's a miraculous day."

The adults smiled in amusement. Xenovia groaned, and looked at her mother, wondering what she should do about Milo acting this way to the Miracle Child, or if Sister Griselda will discipline him herself. Her mother just smiled, and gestured for her to just watch.

"You! I am the daughter-the Child of Lady Gabriel herself! You need to watch your tone and be more respectful when speaking to me." Rachelle cried out, almost looking red faced.

"Nope." Milo just smiled and grinned.

"Wha! What do you mean 'Nope'?" She looked scandalized, as if no one had ever refused her a demand.

"It means Nope. Boop." Milo then went ahead and booped Rachelle on the nose.

The half-angel girl froze at the act, as if her brain couldn't comprehend the sheer disregard and familiarity the boy was treating her with.

"Y-Y-You..." Rachelle took a step back, as her rosario rose up and lit slightly, before she held it in her hand, close to her chest like a safety blanket. She look at Milo with wide eyes as if seeing something incomprehensible, while her face was a fierce red. From indignant anger obviously. She wasn't blushing at such a playful touch. Not at all. "I-I'm the literal child of a Great Seraph, while you're just some or-No one. How dare you act familiar to me?"

The adults, and even Xenovia, winced, expecting this to be the straw that breaking Milo's joking manner, and actually be angry.

Instead Milo hold his chin in thought.

"Hmm, yeah, I do need a last name to be a full character, and have something cool and memorable to introduce myself with." The group blinked at Milo's odd words and logic, but listened nonetheless. Milo then looked at Rachelle and grinned, worrying the half-angel girl, as felt a sudden dread. "Hey, Sister Griselda, Father Cornelius, my paperwork for transferring here isn't fully finished, right? So I can add a last name if I decide on one, rather than the orphanage giving me one, right?"

The adults looked at each other, wonder where he's going with this, before nodding.

"Well, yes, I suppose, you can still add one if you want. Why?" Asked Father Cornelius, then his eyes widened as it came to him right afterwards.

"You know, I like the sound of 'Donato'. It has 'Don' in it. The Don." Milo said with gravitas. "It has a cool ring to it. So, write me up as 'Milo Donato'." He said with a grin.

"W-WHAT!? No! You can't!" Rachelle cried out, actually whining now. "That's my last name! You can't use it!" She almost stomped her feet, before quickly holding herself back.

"What? Two people can have the same last name and not be related to each other." Milo shrugged playfully, before grinning widely at Rachelle. "Besides, it's not like you have a monopoly on 'Donato' as a last name. So let's start again. Nice to meet you Rachelle Donato. What a surprise, I'm Milo Donato. What a lucky coincidence."

Rachelle actually puffed up her lower lip, not realizing she did such childish action. She looked at her caretaker, trying to show authority and anger, but all it did make her look like a cute child, throwing a tantrum.

"You're not gonna let him do that, right? I won't allow it!" She called out.

"Well, your holiness." Father Cornelius tried to look thoughtful, and not amused. "I can't really stop the boy from choosing what name he wants to be called by. It's his right." He shrugged, choosing to just let things be.

"Wha, you!" Rachelle pouted before turning back to Milo with a fierce look, as she drew her wings back in. "I'm gonna remember this! This isn't over, you, you...jerk!" the Miracle Child turned and stomped away.

"Wha, what just happened?" Xenovia asked in shock.

"You know what?" The two adults and Xenovia, turned to look at the grinning Milo, who had a mischievous glint in his eyes. "I think I'm gonna like it here, after all."
