Don X Don (High School DxD Miracle Child SI Chapter 5)

"Ah, I wanted to ask one last thing." Gabriel said just before she left. "Is there anything you two want?" She said to Rachelle and Milo. "Anything you two wish for? If its in my power and I can grant it in a relatively short amount of time, then please, don't hold back and tell me."

"Oh...I..." Rachelle was lost for words, as if there was nothing that could come to her mind. Then one thing arrived, and she shook her head, guilt on her face for a moment before she banished it. "No, M-Mother. I only wish for the glory of God to spread even further and shine brighter."

"Of course," Gabriel gave a smile, that to others looked as angelic as usual, but held a hint of sadness.

"She wants you to come visit more, so her responsibilities stop feeling so suffocating." Milo spoke up.

"Wha!? Stop putting words into my mouth!" Rachelle cried out, to which she was a wide mischievous grin.

The two kids argued for a few moments, making Gabriel smile again at how close they seem.

"And Milo?" The Seraph spoke once more, halting the argument for now. "What about you?"

"No thanks." Milo smiled back.

"Eh?" Gabriel blinked in surprise.

"Wha, what kind of response is that? Do you not understand what Lady Gabriel was offering?" Rachelle said out loud what the other nuns and priests nearby were thinking.

"No, I get it, but I don't need anything. Or rather if I need something, I'll work to get it myself." Milo said in an oddly calm and peaceful voice.

Gabriel found herself taken aback, because she could feel the truth of his words. Milo was a boy that grew up without his parents by his side, yet somehow didn't even seem resentful of that fact.

"We are human. Before you is an Archangel of Heaven, if there is something beyond you, you shouldn't arrogantly think-" Rachelle began.

"It's not about arrogance." Milo said back. "Or stubbornness or defiance or whatever." He then turn fully to face Rachelle, looking at her with an understanding and compassion that irked her a bit. "I have a healthy body, two working arms and legs. God had granted me enough. If there is something in this world I want, I will strive for it, and grasp it by my own efforts. If it's something beyond me, then there's nothing I could do about it, so worrying or obsessing over it is a waste of time."

"But," Gabriel spoke. "Don't you pray about," she thought for a moment. "Four hundred...and two times a day now."

Rachelle, Xenovia and the other nuns felt like their eyes were about to pop out of their skull at this knowledge.

Milo? The one who would skip the morning prayers beyond just doing a quick prayer, and would even skip the lessons on God's beauty and majesty, was actually praying everyday that much?

"Hmm?" Milo thought for a moment. "Five thousand divided by fifty, times four. Huh, neat." He muttered under his breath. "Ah, those four hundred prayers are more of gratitude for what I already have, and what I managed to accomplish. There more like something I say for focus and to center myself than anything." He explained.

"And the other two?" Gabriel asked, to which Rachelle and the nuns found themselves curious about.

"Oh, that. At morning and at night, I just pray for a little bit of luck." Milo said nonchalantly.

"'A little bit of luck'?" Gabriel tilted her head, Rachelle having done the same without realizing.

"Well...How I deal with life, how I respond to the things I face throughout the day, that's on me and in my power to deal with. But things that I have no hand in, and can't predict or do anything about, well for that I just ask for a bit of luck for things to work out." Milo now was blushing a bit, as he explained himself.

"But why not ask for God's bless for everything in your day, or before you go to sleep?" Rachelle asked.

"I already have enough. Asking for more feels a bit too greedy, I would feel too embarrassed." Milo said looking a bit bashful.

"That's wrong." Xenovia's voice cut through the discussion. "Saying it like that, it's like you're saying you don't need God."

"Xenovia!" Sister Griselda said sharply.

"I'm sorry!" Xenovia immediately said back. "But..." She looked down, while 'glaring'-pouting-'subtly' at Milo from time to time.

"Milo," Gabriel spoke slowly. "Do not...have any regrets? You truly never seemed to ask God for anything, even just things people would normally wonder about, or wistfully pray for." She kneeled down till she was eye level with him, and gently put a hand on his shoulder.

"Do you not feel resentful at not having parents?"

The question cut through the room like a blade. Gabriel sharply looked back on the one who asked it, only to see Rahcelle looking down with a stressed look, and gained a look of guilty before pushing it away, to look at Milo in worry.

Only to see the boy, having his usual carefree smile, casually walk up to Rachelle. Xenovia and other nuns moved stop him, only for a gesture and a firm look from Griselda to halt them.

"Nah, that's outside of my ability to do anything about, so why think and agonize about it." Then to the shock of Rachelle, Milo raised a hand-she forced herself to stop from flinching or looking away-only for him to gently pat her head. "From the moment I was born I decided I'm not gonna live in a way that I'd regret." His heartfelt grin and warm hand, made Rachelle feel her cheeks burn. "Besides I already have a family here, everyone in the church, and the friends I have here and in town, and that's enough." Milo then turned to face Xenovia, removing his hand from Rachelle, making her pout a bit. "Also, how long are you gonna lean on God for everything? At what point are you gonna start living your own life?"

Out of every on there, Gabriel seemed most affected by Milo's words, even if no one noticed.

"God doesn't give you more than you could handle, right? Then if it's a struggle or crisis I'm going through, it should be in my ability to deal with." Milo said with conviction that shut Xenovia down for a moment. "I don't know about anyone else, but I often thought about any problem I faced and thought 'do I need a miracle to deal with this?', and I realized, I don't. Either I can resolve things myself, or ask someone I know for help, and thus far I managed just fine." He turned back to Gabriel at the end. "So no, thank you, but I don't need anything." Milo thought for a moment. "Ah, one thing though."

"Of course," Gabriel said instantly.

Milo walked toward her, gestured for her to lean down and...

"Boop." Milo smirked.

"E-Eh?" Gabriel blinked in confusion.

Milo had booped the Seraph on the nose.

"You shouldn't look so down, if the most beautiful Angel of Heaven looks sad, then everyone will start crying. Looks at them, they're about to start using up the tissues."

The nuns at the door gave some protests, while looking away.

"Milo..." Gabriel looked on the verge of cry from joy. "Honestly, even saying the same words he used." She muttered under her breath, before shaking her head. "Boop." Gabriel did the same to a surprise Milo. "Then you should stop causing trouble for others too, my child."

"H-Hey!" Rachelle cried out as she came to drag Milo away from the Seraph. "I told you! Stop doing weird things to Lady Gabriel-"

"Ah, sorry, Rachelle. Boop." Gabriel booped Rachelle.

"MMM!" Rachelle seemed unsure how to react, whether to shout in surprise, or squee in happiness.

"There, now you're not left out." Gabriel smiled.

"I-I-I wasn't feeling left out!"

AN: Okay, next chapter the timeskip to get things to move on with the plot.
