Calm Eggplant Enjoying A Simple Life (Campione - Mash Kyrielight SI Chapter 2)
Ichirou Kusanagi was a man known for his adventurous life, and before his marriage his lady killer side. It's why he travelled the world and even got entangled with the supernatural side of things, before he settled down.
Now, as he was in his aging years, running away from a Heretic God was just rational.
A rational act that Lucretia's niece was not doing.
Instead she was throwing vending machines and street lamps at the Heretic God.
Of course after opponent didn't just let her. After the second vending machine, the god threw lightning bolts blowing up her 'weapons'. Rather, the god was aiming at Mash, and the destroyed thrown objects where in the way.
Mash instantly jumped away, and stopped using metallic objects, seeing what type of power her opponent is using. Good thing too, since she was fighting a Sky God, one with a strong association with Lightning, the Heretic God Zeus.
No, that's not the issue! Ichirou shook his head.
"Mash, stop fighting and run! That's-" He cried out, but thunder raging above in the mood of the Heretic God cut off his words.
Mash swung her arm to the side, making a wind blade that cut down some of the park trees nearby, and one of the trees were launched by the magic wind under Mash's control toward herself.
"Oh great Raijin, thy pet does not reside in my navel," Ichirou blinked at how strong the young woman was, as she snatched the tree like it was a bat and held it in front of her. "Thus seek me not, and let thy thunder beasts play and sctach upon the field, grounds and trees! Raiju Avoidance!"
Zeus' Lightning reached Mash... and against all logic of what should happen, the lightning flew around Mash to hit anywhere but her. The portion that went head on and hit the tree Mash was holding, did nothing to the woman, and caused the tree to have a large crack looking like claw marks.
Zola's style of magic! Ichirou's eyes widened. Lucretia had mention-while trying not to show how proud she was-how Mash was able to learn her particular style of Hermetic Magic.
Hermetic Magic relied on pulling on the legends of myth and gods to produce a magical effect. It was a reliable magic casting style with how consistent it can be, as you can find any myth to produce the effect you want, and then replicate that by drawing on that myth.
Normally a Mage would have a set of Hermetic Spells in their repertoire that they can reliably call on again and again.
Lucretia's magic style was the exact opposite of that. Anyone that studied it would call it unreliable to the point of insanity. It was a style of using Hermetic Magic where you create the spell you need based on the situation you're in.
It was something that required you to not just have a massive amount of knowledge of legends and myth, but the calm mind to remember and draw on them in the moment.
And Mash knows how to use it. Ichirou couldn't help the small smile that came to him. We might actually be able to escape Zeus. He thought.
Mash used the winds around her-that grew thicker and stronger the more the thunderstorm above them raged on-to fly more trees toward her. She then dashed toward Zeus, to Ichirou's horror.
The Zeus growled as he gritted his teeth at this mortal daring to battle him, rather than prostrate herself before him for mercy. The god threw bolt after bolt, and when the three Mash was holding finally snapped and blew up, she just grabbed another one from the ones flying near her. Once more the lilac haired woman defended herself, smacking one lightning bolt away after another.
Ichirou tried to warn her, he even got close enough so his shouts can actually be heard.
Mash was in range of Zeus, dash-jumped with a tree held in both hands raised up-
"MASH, STOP!"
-And slammed down on Zeus' head, breaking the magic empowered tree in half.
Zeus blinked as he noticed his head did lean down from the strike. A mortal had managed to make him bow his head.
"You're fighting a god!" Ichirou shouted once the calm fell on the battlefield. "That's the Heretic God Zeus, you need to get out of there right now!" The elder Kusanagi said, resolving himself on what he must do to say Zola's niece. "He's after me, so just run-"
"The time for mercy is over." Lightning sparked across Zeus's whole being as he levitated from sheer divine power. "You think you shall escape this disrespect mortals? I could have ignored your wretched life, enjoying the fruits of a comforting life that should have been attributed to me. But now?"
Zeus raised his arm back, and an spear of lightning, Zeus' Bolt, formed in his hand.
"You and this land, shall pay for this disrespect." Zeus eyed Ichirou from his side. "And you, do not even think of running away, you know how creative my punishments are."
Ichirou gulped. His mind raced to think on how to get out of this, what knowledge, minor spells or tricks he can you.
Yet Ichirou and the Heretic God's attention were drawn to the young woman, to Mash, who was chuckling.
"A 'god' you say?" Mash was smiling. No, she was grinning widely, with battlelust and joy, that shouldn't be normal for a human facing such danger. "Good."
"You are not one of the Devil Kings, why do you act like them?" Zeus said before scoffing. "Do you think you can actually fight a god as a human? Forget arrogance, it seems you simply an imbecile."
My Inner Mash was panicking, citing the danger, capabilities and threat level of facing a Divine Spirit.
And I was grinning.
I couldn't help it. When I was reborn, I was reborn with Mash's powers. All of Mash's powers, meaning even her contract with Galahad.
But ever since I came to this world I never had the chance to use it. Oh sure Grandma Zola noticed and asked me about it, and I showed her but that doesn't count. However, one thing we easily noticed was that I still had the abilities and durability of a Servant.
Lucertia compared my Magic Resistance to that of Campione at times. So magic spells were never really a danger to me. I mean, it's not like she just throws curses at me because she thinks they might hurt me.
As for Galahad, we never really interacted. Unlike Mash, I tried to talk to him, rather than 'give him his privacy'. Mash, you pure cinnamon angel.
The only thing I got from him was his vague feeling of disapproval whenever I was being lazy.
Well, I'm not being lazy now!
Seeing my grin, Zeus took it as mocking at his expense, and with a shout throw his Authority at me.
I dash forward, drawing in on the contract, and the Servant power lying dormant within me.
Logically, a person being hit by a Heretic God's Authority would be dead. There was no other outcome that could happen.
Yet as Ichirou found a place to watch the battle, he had a gut feeling that Zeus didn't succeed in taking down the young woman.
Mash had dashed at the Heretic God. Her confident grin not wavering. Moments before the lightning bolt hit, a massive wave of mana exploded from Mash.
The bolt hit, explosion and smoke filled the area where the young woman was in.
And from the cloud of smoke, a knight with a great shield burst forward, and bashed said shield right into the Heretic God's face.
Was she a descendent of a Divine Ancestor? Ichirou thought wide-eyed. He couldn't think of any other explanation. He would have thought she was one herself, but the girl didn't give off the same aura, or act with the haughtiness that he had seen on the Divine Ancestors he was lucky to witness, and live to tell about it.
"Aaargh!" Zeus stumbled back, shock and outrage visible on his face, at the fact that he was actually injured. He looked at the blood from his nose like he couldn't comprehend it. "I...I was made to bleed. By a mere mortal? You!" He faced Mash again, already healed and perfect in presentation, but the outrage was more direct this time.
So she is just human? Ichirou noted, the god confirming the retired professor's thoughts on what Mash was.
Zeus threw another bold, only for Mash to easily block it with her shield. The shield was spotless even after taking a divine attack.
Then Mash spun and swung the edge of her cross shield at the Heretic God. Zeus knew combat by instinct, and easily jumped away, only for Mash to dash forward again, and spear kick him in the stomach.
Zeus was launched away but quickly recovered, sending another blast of lightning at her. Mash threw one of her floating tree at it. It shattered this time from the power of Zeus' blow, but it acted as cover for when Mash jumped in the air, and suddenly fell toward the god shield first, as she was propelled by her winds and slammed into him.
Regardless of how many times they clashed, Mash, a human seemed to have the upper hand by virtue of her indestructible shield.
"A mere Divine Spirit thinks it can act as it pleases in the Human World?" Mash sneered back, but Ichirou could tell it was an act.
Is...Is she pissing him off on purpose? Ichirou though, his mouth agape at what he was seeing.
"What was it you said? We're 'enjoying the fruits of a comforting life that should have been attributed to you'? Weird, I don't remember you building shit." Mash smirked, then fell back to her combat stance, dashing forward while calling on the trees she was still floating and controlling.
The Heretic God said nothing, his eyes simple widening in sheer rage, that rolled off of his as a storm. The thunderclouds above rages so violently, the sky seems to be a ceiling of lightning rather than clouds.
"I am one who punished the arrogant, mortal." Divine power rolled off of Zeus, as some passive Authority activated. "Did you forget who humbles the humans that fall to hubris?" As he spoke, the power rolling off of him seemed to grow double, triple or maybe even more.
"Sorry who was that?"
"I am the king of the heavens!" When Zeus spoke this time, he did so with Authority. Ichirou tried to warn Mash, shouting for her, but it was to no avail. "The sky carries my will and the storm carries my wrath." Zeus raised his arm, and the lightning shined like an electric sunrise.
The winds around Mash were at their most ferocious now, almost uncontrollable. Yet the speed granted to Mash was inexplicable. In a single breath Mash broke her dash into a stop and slammed her shield in front of her. Magical energy gathered instantly as she prepared her trump card.
"This is the place which heals all wounds and grudges, this is our home where glory is found." The mana around Mash changed. Where before it was free and wild, now it was too focused and orderly with purpose.
"You of earth, know the futility of standing before the God King of Lightning." Zeus brought his arm down. "Be drowned in my thunder."
And all the lightning of the heavens aimed right at Mash alone.
Ichirou believe this was the end of that young brave girl.
Then the impossible happened.
"Manifest yourself. LORD CAMELOT!"
A castle.
A fortress from pure magical energy manifested.
It should not have matter before the Authority of a God, one with as much history and power as a King of Gods as Zeus.
Yet for Mash, the Heretic God before her and his status didn't matter.
For what is the might of a god king, compared to an attack that would have wiped out the planet.
Thus the divine lightning struck.
And was redirected right back at Zeus.
The Heretic God screamed in agony. Unable to believe that his attack could be repelled. That he could be hurt to this extent.
The explosion that rang out, caused all the windows in the area to shatter, with those further out cracking, all from the sheer shockwave emitted from the blast.
For a moment, calm fell back down on the battleground.
And as the smoke cleared, it showed a bloodied and injured Zeus, staying down on one knee.
"...Unacceptable." Light began to emit from behind the Heretic God, as it there was a sun behind him. "Unacceptable!" Zeus stood up. His beard moving like flames.
The hatred in his eyes as he looked at the shield knight was now personal.
