NO CHILL! (High School DxD - Human SI Chapter 5)
Mephisto Pheles sat in his office staring at the letter in front of him with great intensity.
On one hand, the letter explaining the... gift Adam had so graciously sent his Magician Organization, Grauzauberer, gave him a political migraine. And that's not even taking into account the enlightening phone call he received from one Alisa Monk, Adam's attendant, it seems, telling him he wasn't the only one to receive sure gift.
He could already imagine the sheer panic and political juggling Rudiger was doing right now trying to maintain his authority over Rosenkreuzer, and his king's likely demands.
Truly, Adam's "Saint Quartz" might as well be the world's deadliest poison apple.
On the other hand, this was the most entertaining shit he had seen since coming to the Human World and meeting Faust all those centuries ago.
Right now Golden Dawn and Rosenkreuzer have an equal number of Saint Quartz as his Grauzauberer. Right now Rudiger was probably being pressured by his Devil King about handing over most of his Saint Quartz, passing it off as returning the stolen Evil Pieces they were made from.
If the idiot ended up telling his master what they were made of. Mephisto thought.
As for Golden Dawn, Mephisto was sure it's Head Chairwoman, Aqora Shakespeare was doing something crazy like holding a tournament to see who would end up getting a Saint Quartz and then deciding who to give it to based on her mood, and who entertained her more.
Mephisto mulled the decision in his head a few times before buzzing his assistant with his land phone.
"Jonathan, can you bring me a list of every single student that's scored at the top and at the bottom of annual aptitudes tests? Also make sure to list them based on prospects and potential." The Head of Grauzauberer said and wait.
A while later Jonathan arrived with a tablet containing the list ordered.
"What are all these for, sir?" The assistant asked.
"Well~, you know what they say about education." Mephisto smile as he began scrolling through the student files. "Some people are good with regular teachings and lessons, others need on-hand experience, and some need to be just given direction and let them do their own thing."
"...You aren't planning on just giving out Adam's gifts at random, are you?" Jonathan asked with some trepidation.
"Of course not," Mephisto smirked. "I am very meticuously going to give them to the ambitious kids, the troublemakers, the down on their luck, the failures that need one last chance, and the rest I'll send out to our alumni, and some of the Magicians I was, or still am, contracted with that are noteworthy. Oh by the way, whatever happened to those underworld refugees at the Church?"
Jonathan took a deep breath counted to ten, as his boss was in one of those moods. He thought Mephisto wasn't as "actively creative" as he used to be anymore.
"The Church housed them for a week, then gave them all who didn't wish to join them as an Exorcists, enough money for a one-way plane ticket for their home countries, or equivalent means of transportation if they are from Europe. Of course given that, well, a lot of those people lost their homes, their families, got disowned, or simply outlived their families, that no one knows them now, as they had been enslaved for centuries, they have no where to go, and seem to just wander around. Although some of the more active one are starting to pool in their funds to make their own group." Jonathan reported.
"Send an invitation to them to come to us for housing and learning free of charge, and send a letter to Aqora telling her of what we're planning, so she'd do the same." Mephisto said, as he start making check marks next to the names of students to get a Saint Quartz, marking Meredith Ordinton as the latest in his list.
"What!? Why? The money alone for doing that would-"
"Will be paid back from the sheer manpower and information those former Devils would have. Make contracts that give them free reign to leave whenever they way, and that no one can Piece them for as long as they are part of the Grauzauberer." Mephisto said, as she focused on his assistant. "The Church as usual fucks up how to deal with it's own followers and Humans in general. They should have thrown all their resources into helping those refugees, but since they won't, that treasure drove of knowledge and experience can be ours. Not only that they are vulnerable since you can be sure as hell, the Devils in the Underworld are whining like shit to get back their 'stolen properties'." He grinned. "Simply put, the only place those people can go to, are factions that don't align with either Heaven or Hell, and I don't think they'd want to see a Fallen either for a long, long time." He had a thoughtful look on his face. "Also consider it an attempt to curry favor with Adam. Let's see his reaction to us extending a helping hand."
With his piece said, the Extra Devil Chairman of Grauzauberer and his assistant got back to work.
Then realized they had a lot of files to go through and started throwing other people onto the task.
"S-So... calculate then the velocity, Lord Kenji?" Isabella Carsten asked as she was hovering a wooden cube above her hand.
"Not exactly, you're just having it floating there, you don't want to move it. Here you need to take note of potential energy, and focus on the normal force, that you'd provide, to push the cube from below to keep it standing still. Sure, you're basically making an invisible table like this, but afterward, you can learn how other vectors of force and energy can affect an object and use that to move things around. Thus, telekinesis." I finished my explanation with a proud teacher's huff.
"Y-Yeah, my Lord. I'll do my best!" Isabella said with enthusiasm.
"Lord Kenji, I wouldn't wish to disagree with you, but... wouldn't it be easier to just use Imagination Magic or Wind Magic?" Alisa asked with a bit of a hesitant smile.
"Maybe, but-"
"It's okay!" Isabella quickly said, while looking at me worried. "I will learn Lord Adam's-"
"Kenji." I interjected.
"-Kenji's Number Eyes technique."
"Numbers Vision." I correct.
"Yes!" Isabella said with intense firmness in her voice.
Alisa sighed and let us be.
So quick run down of the past few months.
The Magician Organizations I sent the Saint Quartz to sent back a thank you and along with a request to send a liaison from them, and form an alliance with them. No sure why, since it's just a small gift for the sake of advancing magic. Just some credit in their textbooks or the like would have been enough.
I'm not sure if the sisters would want to house those Magicians.
Oh yeah, the former Devils I Un-Reincarnated, where now living next door to me. Not sure how they managed it, but they bought another piece of land near my house, along with the building on, and remade it into an inn. They all live there now.
It's called "The Blessed Inn".
Okay, sure I guess.
Not all of Diodora's former Peerage went to live next to me. Some left to live away from anything supernatural, which I wish them luck in as that's gonna be difficult. Some quit being nuns, and left to live as a normal person.
And then there was Isabella. Well...
She tried to go back to the Church.
They... were not polite in telling her to go away.
From then on, she threw herself into studying magic from me, which I'm not sure why since I don't even know as much as a skilled Magician.
Once I was talking about how I was beginning to use, what I assume to be an average Magician's skill, she jumped onto wanting to learn it to be of use to me. Weird because she's a Former Bishop, I'm sure she was much more skilled in magic than me.
I mean, Numbers Vision is just the ability to apply mathematical equations to everything in your sight in your mind's eye, so when you start using magic spells it would be easy to manipulate those equations, so you can cast spells instantly, and in a more free-form, free-flowing manner.
For example, someone walking down the road. There are variables for this hypothetical person's height, weight and walking speed, and from their you can calculate the force of every step, the ground's opposing force (normal force), friction between the ground and shoes, etc. And then apply more equations, like wind speed, wind resistance, his body temperature and then the energy within the body. Add in energy from ki and mana, and thus you know how much power the person has, and what they are exuding onto the world. Then add the gravity variable, it's effect on the weight, and on and on and on.
Everything in the physical world moves by math, and from there we explain physics, chemistry and so on.
Sure, thinking in that manner and applying it all the time gave me a bit of a headache at the start, but that's because I had my mind accelerate my thoughts, to think at faster speeds, and get used to this exercise quicker.
Anyways, I went back to teaching Isabella. I noted in the background on the TV, some of the former nuns were watching something about a luxury boat "Heavenly of Aloha" that went missing some time ago. I think it's been a month since that accident. Months? That's sad, you never know when tragedy might happen.
Hmm, for some that boat reminds me of something, but I'm not sure what.
Meh, it will come back to me-
Uh oh.
Because of my Seimei Kikan mastery, I could detect the exact moment my body began increase the releasing of certain hormones, like testosterone and others.
Sure I may be able to control every aspect of my body, but that doesn't mean I know the long term results and effects of that.
Should I speed this up? Slow it down? Let it just progress at the organic natural rate?
But wait, I have optimized my body's internal functions, to the point that I can forgo sleep for weeks, eat once a month, sometimes don't even need the bathroom, because my body breaks food down to zero.
So if I do nothing will have I optimized puberty? Accelerated puberty? Is that good or bad?
"Lord Kenji, is everything alright?" Alisa asked, instantly at my side just because I was deep thought.
"Hmm, it seems I've entered puberty." I said absentmindedly.
"...What?"
"I'll have to think about this. Keep up your practice, Isabella." I said encouragingly as I went for a walk.
Odd, the room was very quiet as I left.
