CHAPTER 363

Daniel and Ms. Murdock stood up. They looked around, and they were surrounded by velociraptors. Falcon was right there. The utahraptor glared at them, but was unmoving. The circle of hunters was silent until a low rhythmic hooting began. It was quiet at first, but then it grew in volume and the tempo increased. It was like a chant.

Daniel recognized the behavior. He looked down at the pry bar in the dirt and understood. When a length of rebar dropped at Ms. Murdock's feet from the mouth of one of the surrounding velociraptors she understood as well.

Daniel's face dripped blood, and he gave Ms. Murdock a little smile. "There was never any escape Joan, not for any of us."

She nodded, her face also dripping blood.

Daniel crouched and picked up the pry bar. The hooting chant became louder as he did this. Daniel held it up to Falcon and gave a polite nod, then he turned to Joan. "Ready when you are."

Joan reached for the rebar. She knew it was over. There was no escape. Now the fight might only be about glory, or honor, or some crap like that. Maybe they were just going to beat the pulp out of each other until they were both dead, and it was going to have absolutely no meaning at all. She really didn't care. Joan picked up the rebar and poised against Daniel. "Let's finish this."
