The cafeteria at Chaldea buzzed with the lively chatter of Servants and staff taking a much-needed break. Ritsuka, Mash, and the Master of Masters entered, the latter swaying slightly as he took in the atmosphere.
"Ah, the heart of any fortress," MoM said with exaggerated reverence, "the humble dining hall. Such warmth, such camaraderie, such... what is that smell?"
Mash tilted her head. "I think it's EMIYA's special beef stew. It's a favorite around here."
Approaching the counter, they were greeted by EMIYA, arms crossed and an apron neatly tied around his waist. Beside him, Boudica was helping distribute trays, her cheerful demeanor lighting up the room. Tamamo Cat, bouncing with energy, carried a large pot of soup, humming to herself.
EMIYA raised an eyebrow at the newcomer. "A new face, I see. Welcome to Chaldea. You must be the Master's latest Servant."
MoM placed a hand on his chest dramatically. "Ah, so perceptive! Yes, I am the new and enigmatic addition to this fine establishment." He gestured vaguely toward the menu board above the counter. "And what a splendid selection you have here! Truly, a feast fit for kings—or in my case, mysterious scholars."
EMIYA chuckled. "Glad you approve. So, what'll it be?"
MoM paused, stroking his chin as he leaned forward to study the menu. "Hmm. An excellent question. Let me think. Should I go with something light? Or perhaps a hearty stew to nourish my weary soul?"
Ritsuka sighed heavily. "This is normal. He's been like this since he showed up."
EMIYA blinked at Ritsuka, then back at MoM, his eyebrow twitching. "Is that so?"
"Afraid so," Ritsuka replied with a tired smile.
"Alright, take your time," EMIYA said, crossing his arms but clearly less amused.
Boudica stepped in, her motherly tone soothing. "If you're having trouble deciding, I'd recommend the shepherd's pie. It's warm and filling, perfect for newcomers!"
Tamamo Cat perked up, her ears twitching. "Oh, oh! Or my special curry! It's got a kick, but it'll make your taste buds dance!"
MoM raised a hand to silence them. "Ladies, I appreciate your enthusiasm, truly. But I need to commune with the menu for a moment."
He turned back to the board, squinting as though deciphering ancient runes. "Do I want something savory? Or sweet? Perhaps a combination of both? Hmm, the eternal question..."
EMIYA sighed audibly, looking at Ritsuka for backup. "Is he always like this?"
Ritsuka shrugged, hands up in defeat. "Pretty much. Good luck."
Tamamo Cat giggled, setting the pot down. "He's funny, though! It's like watching a dramatic play."
MoM snapped his fingers suddenly, making everyone jump. "I have decided!" He turned to EMIYA with flair. "I will have... your finest water to start. And then I shall contemplate my next course of action."
EMIYA's deadpan expression said it all as he grabbed a glass of water and slid it across the counter. "Here. Let us know when you've 'contemplated.'"
Boudica smiled apologetically at EMIYA. "Well, at least he's unique, right?"
MoM raised his glass in a toast. "To culinary artistry and the endless journey of choice!"
Ritsuka buried his face in his hands. Mash patted him on the back. "At least he's... enthusiastic?"
As the group exited the dining hall, Ritsuka was rubbing his temples, his disbelief practically radiating from him. Mash followed closely behind, looking half amused and half exasperated, while the Master of Masters walked ahead, nibbling contentedly on a simple cupcake.
"A cupcake," Ritsuka muttered, his voice tinged with exasperation. "Out of all the incredible meals you could have chosen, you picked... a cupcake?"
MoM turned slightly, raising an eyebrow under his hood. "And what, pray tell, is wrong with a cupcake, young Master of Chaldea?"
Ritsuka gestured wildly back toward the dining hall. "There was shepherd's pie, beef stew, curry, sandwiches—actual meals! You spent all that time pondering over the menu like you were solving a Singularity, only to pick dessert!"
MoM scoffed, taking another dainty bite of the cupcake. "I am simply watching my diet, dear Ritsuka," he replied with mock seriousness, his tone dripping with sarcasm. "One must maintain a certain... mystique, after all."
Ritsuka threw his hands up. "What does that even mean?!"
Mash stifled a laugh, adjusting her shield as she walked beside her Master. "Maybe it's part of his strategy to keep us all guessing?"
"Precisely!" MoM declared, spinning around dramatically and walking backward. "You see, young Master, maintaining an air of unpredictability is key. Imagine the enemy's shock when they realize the great Master of Masters fueled his brilliance on a cupcake and not a mundane stew!"
Mash tilted her head thoughtfully. "I guess that could work... in a strange sort of way."
Ritsuka groaned, dragging a hand down his face. "This entire day has been like this."
MoM leaned in slightly, his voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. "And yet, admit it, you're intrigued. You'll spend the rest of the day wondering, why the cupcake? Is it a metaphor? A statement? A cosmic joke? The answer lies... in the frosting."
Ritsuka stopped walking and just stared at him. "You're impossible."
With a laugh, MoM spun back around and continued walking down the hall, humming to himself as though he didn't have a care in the world. Mash giggled softly and patted Ritsuka's shoulder.
"At least he's... unique?"
"Yeah," Ritsuka muttered, following after the enigmatic Moon Cancer. "That's one way to put it."
