The air in Chaldea's commons grew heavy as Master of Masters studied the trio before him. Kadoc Zemlupus crossed his arms, clearly annoyed by the scrutiny, while Caenis glared daggers, her posture tense and ready to snap at any moment. Consort Yu maintained her disinterested demeanor, though her narrowed eyes betrayed her discomfort under the Moon Cancer's lingering gaze.
"Ah, fascinating," MoM finally said, breaking the silence with a hum. "To think, you three were once enemies, hellbent on taking Chaldea down. And now... look at you! Disgruntled allies at best, glorified teammates at worst. How poetic."
Kadoc scowled. "We didn't exactly have a choice, did we? Besides, what's it to you?"
MoM waved a gloved hand dismissively. "Oh, nothing, nothing at all. Just an observer, enjoying the irony. It's almost like you like being the good guys now."
"Say that again, you hooded clown, and I'll break your face in half," Caenis snapped, stepping forward with a threatening glint in her eyes.
MoM chuckled, sidestepping her aggression with a twirl. "Touchy, aren't we? Relax, I'm just teasing. Besides, I wouldn't want to get on your bad side. Not that I haven't already."
Yu's voice was cold as ice. "You're treading on thin ice, Moon Cancer. State your purpose, or get out of our sight."
"Oh, but I am getting to my purpose," MoM replied, his playful tone dropping into something far more enigmatic. He clasped his hands behind his back and leaned in slightly. "You see, I'm just here to ensure the kid—our dear Master—isn't blindsided by any sudden betrayals. Can't have that, now can we?"
The trio stiffened, caught off guard by the sudden shift in his demeanor. MoM's hood tilted slightly as if he were peering into their very souls. Beneath the shadow of his hood, a faint, eerie glint of glowing eyes made them all instinctively uneasy.
"Let me be clear," he continued, his voice softer but far more chilling. "If any of you decide to play traitor again, well... let's just say you'll be dealing with me. And trust me, you won't enjoy it. I like the kid too much to let anything happen to them."
The tension in the room was palpable. Even Caenis, ever defiant, found herself hesitating under his unyielding gaze. Yu frowned deeply, while Kadoc swallowed hard, his usual sarcasm rendered silent.
Then, as if flipping a switch, MoM straightened and returned to his usual cheery tone. "But hey, I'm sure we'll all get along splendidly! After all, what's a little darkness and light between friends?" He turned on his heel and began to walk away, his hands swinging behind his back.
"Oh, and one more thing," he called over his shoulder, his tone playful but carrying an unmistakable weight. "May your heart be your guiding key."
The trio watched him go, their previous bravado dimmed by his cryptic words.
"What... the hell was that guy's deal?" Kadoc muttered, breaking the uneasy silence.
Caenis clicked her tongue, looking away as if to shake off the moment. "Beats me. But he's trouble. I can feel it."
Yu crossed her arms, her expression unreadable. "He's hiding something. And I don't think I want to know what."
Just as the trio thought they'd seen the last of him, the Master of Masters reappeared as if summoned by their collective dread. He popped back into their line of sight, hands on his hips and a cheerful tone in his voice.
"Y'know, I've been thinking," MoM began, leaning toward them with a casual grin hidden beneath his hood. "How about we grab lunch together sometime? A little bonding session! Get to know each other better. Sounds fun, right?"
Caenis immediately stepped forward, her spear materializing in her hand. Her glare was enough to freeze most Servants in their tracks. "How about I end you instead? Sound good to you?"
MoM leaned back, placing a gloved hand over his heart as if wounded by her words. "Oh, come now, no need to be so dramatic. It's just lunch! I promise, no poison, no hidden schemes, and definitely no talking about how cute I think your tsundere moments are."
That last comment nearly pushed Caenis over the edge. "You're dead, hooded freak!"
She lunged forward, but Kadoc grabbed her arm, holding her back. "Don't waste your energy, Caenis. He's just messing with you again."
Yu sighed, clearly over the entire ordeal. "Why are you even still here? Didn't you say you had something better to do?"
MoM tilted his head, as if pondering their question. "Hmm, I did have plans to check out the kitchen again, but I figured, why not extend an olive branch? Guess I'll just take my leave, then. So much for making friends."
With a melodramatic sigh, he turned and began walking away, his hands clasped behind his back. "Such hostility. It's almost like you don't trust me! Oh well, I'll just have to win you over another day. Until then, remember: a lunch date is always on the table!"
As his figure disappeared down the corridor, Caenis fumed, her spear still tightly gripped. "I hate that guy."
Yu shook her head. "He's impossible to deal with."
Kadoc, looking exhausted, simply muttered, "Why does Chaldea always get the weird ones?"
