Chapter 5: A Sudden Burst of Light
Yozora panted heavily, clutching his ring hand with grit teeth; a stinging sensation burning through it... the finger now covered in grey, crack-like scars that had spread down to his forearm. "Wha…what…was that..?" he asked himself in disbelief.
"I'll tell ya what that is! It's-" Crescent's answer was cut off as the jingle of Crawling In My Skin began to play, "Uh, excuse me, I've gotta take this." He pulled off a phone and answered, "Hey, boss man! How's it-uh huh. Uh huh. Uh huh. Ya don't say? What? You didn't say. It's a simple matter of-okay, no need to get touchy. Uh huh. And they'll never find the-yeah, yeah, I heard ya the first time. And where's that? Okay, find the wizard's house, I've gone too far? Gotcha, thanks. Talk to ya later, man." he hung up, "Yeah, sorry man, but I gotta cut this short. Tried explaining the situation to my boss, but he's...kinda convincing."
"OH" Oh, right, hey, 's cool! Didn't realise you were on the job," Yozora sheepishly said, scratching the back of his head, before extending his hand out. "Hey, catch ya later?"
Crescent's response was to put a katana into his hand, "Here. Something with a little more kick. Later, buddy!" he then took off, calling, "When ya get that Giygas, gimme a ride, will ya?"
He then vanished from view.
Yozora blinked twice, staring at the katana in surprise. "H-Huh-? Uh... hey, wait-!" Too late, he was gone. "...thanks," he lamely managed to finish. He gave it an experimental swish through the air. And then another. He was taken aback with how familiar it felt, handling a sword as if it were an extension of his arm as opposed to a weapon in his grasp. He did a few more flourishes and swings. "Haha, hey, hey, he's onto something! This DEFINITELY has a little-" SWISH! "Extra-" SHIIIN!
"KICK!"
…
He accidentally sliced STRAIGHT through a nearby cart, effortlessly splitting wood, and a sea of cabbages spilled out, rolling and tumbling across the streets of Traverse Town.
"MY CABBAGES!" screamed the poor, beleaguered cabbage vendor.
"Sorry! Sorry, I'll... I'll fix that! Somehow!" Yozora apologised hastily, before he turned and hastily RAN from the scene. "Wait... gah! Where do I put this?! Dude didn't give me a scabbard or a magic bag or anythi-"
Suddenly, it flashed a bright blue, and shattered away into crystlaline light particles. "...huh." He SCREECHED to a halt, double-taking.
He extended his hand-
PSSSHHHHH!
The katana reappeared, in a similar fashion to its disappearance.
On cue, Heartless began to appear.
"Talk about TIMING," Yozora remarked, swiftly flurrying the katana through the air and entering a fighting stance.
No matter what happened, the Heartless kept swarming Yozora.
With rapid flicks of his wrist and swishes through the air, he rapid slashed and struck any Heartless that got close. Need an opening, he thought to himself, cleaving straight through an inky-black Shadow as it rose from the floor, leaping back. ...if only I knew how to actually do that... magic blast I did earlier properly...!
The Heartless then stopped attacking Yozora. Instead, they began running towards a light in the distance.
"...well... okay then," Yozora just.. stared blankly. "...but.. they... get obliterated by bursts of light... why...?"
There was a brief pang in his chest. As if his heart were crying out for something. He lifted his hand and rested it over his chest, gasping shakily. "What was-?" he asked in surprise.
... but he turned away from the direction of the light. "Must have given be a shock," he murmured, shaking his head. He simply jogged away, dismissing the katana in a flurry of light.
But again, that surge of emotion rushed through him. Yozora paused, his gaze following the direction he had seen the light. Was…was someone—something—telling him he needed to go in that direction? He sucked in a deep breath of air…
And proceeded to SPRINT towards it.
POHPOHPOHPOHPOHPOH
"Huh, sudden appearance of a Heartless-attracting light?" Crescent asked before shrugging as he walked off, "Well, probably has nothing to do with anything!"
"Well, good thing they left." Said a voice as a man in his late-twenties walked by, wearing a red and blue hoodie, "Now, we can finish the errand!"
"There WERE reports of Heartless attacks, master." Said a slightly younger girl with short, red hair and freckles.
POHPOHPOHPOHPOHPOH
*Whoosh!*
Lucy burst through the doors of the wardrobe and found herself back in Traverse Town!
"Lucy?" Sakuzy asked as he walked back, looking confused, "Lost you for a sec."
"There you are!" Lucy said as she took her coat off and tossed it back inside the wardrobe.
"Where were you...and where'd you get that coat?" Sakuzy asked.
"Trust me, good thing we only lost ya for a second." Petross said, "Ya don't wanna know what lurks 'round here."
Lucy then realized that the wardrobe she walked into was...nowhere to be found.
"Huh? Gone for a second? But I was gone for...?" She said as she tried to find the wardrobe, only to find nothing. "Gone for what felt like hours..."
"Lucy? What're you doing...?" Sakuzy asked.
Right then, creatures of darkness appeared.
"Scrap!" Petross cursed as he pulled a set of rhino-shaped gauntlets onto his hands, "Heartless. Stay behind me, kids. I got this."
With that, he slammed the gauntlets into the creatures, smashing them into small clouds of shadow.
"Wha...? What are those things?!" Lucy asked as she and Sakuzy backed away.
"Heartless, didn't you hear?" Petross asked, punching into the Heartless as they came on.
Sakuzy made to back off. But he remembered something from a dream...or a dream of a dream...
"Don't be afraid."
"Lucy...don't be afraid." Sakuzy said. He ran at the Heartless with a yell.
"Kid, what're you doing?!" Petross shouted as Heartless jumped at Sakuzy.
"No! Hold it!" Lucy called out.
Sakuzy threw his fist at one of the Heartless…
And there was suddenly a burst of light.
The Heartless were sent flying. The light faded and, when Sakuzy came back into focus, he was holding a silver and gold key-shaped sword with three silver circles at the end of a chain.
"Keyblade…" Sakuzy said, looking at it, "Kingdom…Key?"
"It's…it's…" Petross said, dumbstruck, "I never thought…"
"Keyblade…? Lucy asked in awe.
POHPOHPOHPOHPOHPOH
"And here's the HQ." Blader said as he led them to a small station in the Second District, "Now…"
With a flurries of darkness, black creatures with glowing yellow eyes.
"Ah crap." Blader growled as he put a targe shield onto his arm.
"This'll be fun." Joyex grinned, sliding his chain off is arm as he spun the large, three-pointed blade on the end.
Becca looked seeing these things she looked shocked she had seen them before
"Heartless..." she said
"So, ya know these things? Good, no need explainin' it." Blader said, smashing his small shield into some of the Heartless.
"Hey, know how to fight these things?" Joyex asked, slowly spinning his chain, "'Cuz my gut's giving me a strong inclination of how to deal with these things."
One of the heartless lunged at Becca who shielded herself as a light appeared as something appeared in Becca's hand
"Well, I'll be." Joyex said, looking at Becca.
"You've gotta be friggin' kidding me." Blader said in disbelief.
Becca looked at the weapon in her hand was a key like sword two wings on the handle one white and one black and the teeth of the key are fashioned similar to the word twilight in kanji
"So, Keyblade's Chosen One, eh?" Joyex asked, spinning his chain blade, "Evens our odds against these things."
With that, he seemed to throw his blade at Becca...but his blade hit a Heartless that was coming up right behind her.
"Darn, I missed." He said with a snicker, "I'm kidding!"
"Yeah, yeah." Blader said, blocking a Heartless before a barrel extended from his shield and blasted it.
Becca looked at more heartless and went at them swinging the keyblade she then felt something familiar she decided to try it out seeing a heartless close by
"Fire" Becca called shooting fire out of the keyblade hitting the heartless setting them on fire
"See? NOW everything works out!" Joyex laughed as he jumped into the air, "GATHER!"
An orb of blackness appeared, gathering the Heartless towards it.
Becca noticed taking the opportunity to attacked the gathered heartless
"Yeah, awesome job!" Joyex said. He then saw a light in the distance, "And there it is."
Without another word, Joyex jumped off and began running towards the light.
Becca ran after Joyex seeing the light as well
"HEY, I'M STILL IN A SITU-" Blader shouted, but the Heartless began flocking away, "What the crap's goin' on?"
