Shepard Stories - Ch 16: Under Her Thumb

Main Characters: Liara, Shepard, Miranda and Alex

Armali, Thessia - July 2203 – T'Soni-Shepard Estate.

Shepard squeezed by a few people as he walked through his sliding glass door. Then placed his hands gently on the person he bumped into as he said "Sorry, excuse me." He saw his wife standing in the kitchen with his youngest daughter and made his way over to them through a crowd of people. When he finally got to her, he grunted then said "Finally…"

She pinched her brow as she handed her three-year-old Rileseya a cup of juice then turned to her bondmate and said "What's the matter with you?"

He leaned on the counter then rubbed his face as he groaned. "I hate to say this Lia, but I'm done with kids for now. I'm not saying we can't have more, further down the line." He extended his hand then pushed it out as he continued, "Like waaaay further down the line, but I'm good for a while."

Liara laughed then said, "That's because they are driving us crazy right now. That's the only reason why you say that."

He shook his head, "Lia, this massive party was your idea by the way." He said then flung his hands around as he mocked her, "Oh, let's give Anna a big 1-0 birthday party and invite everyone!" He clamped his eyes as he raised his eyebrows, "With just her, her cousins and siblings, that's twelve kids Liara!" He looked up at the ceiling as he shook his head in slight annoyance. "Please tell me why Aria's kid is here! And why the hell is Tevos here?"

Liara stood there and watched her husband ramble on about all the people then placed a hand on her hip waiting for a chance to speak "Milizkia is here because she's Alex's daughter as you know. The other reason why she's here is another story entirely. Tevos is here because well... that's Aria's girlfriend erm lady friend or whatever the hell she is to Milizkia. The little girl Tevos brought, that's Lena she's Aria and Tevos's daughter."

Shepard eyes widened as his mouth dropped open then cocked his head and blinked hard. "Wait… What… Aria and Tevos? That little girl has to be five or six, maybe seven years old. How do I not know this?"

Liara shifted her eyes to the side, "I could have sworn I told you about that."

"No, I'm pretty sure you didn't because I would remember something like Aria and Tevos." He leaned back as he slowly swirled his fingers then said "Now, let's roll it back to where you said: The other reason why she's here. What exactly do you mean by that?" He said with slight irritation.

"Well, I was informed about this when Miranda and Alex arrived. Our plans have been slightly altered for our family vacation that's coming up next week. Not only is it going to be the twenty-eight of us that normally go but it's going to also be Milizkia, Lena and Tevos. Aria felt that Milizkia should spend more time with her dad, which he's ok with. Lena being six, she doesn't understand why her older sister gets to go on vacation and she doesn't. So, to please a crying little girl, Alex agreed to it with the approval of Tevos and Aria. Which they agreed to, but upon that agreement, Tevos has to go as well."

He opened his mouth then closed it then said, "Ok, let me try and wrap my head around this. We're currently at a party with a hundred and thirty some odd people. Right? Then after the no-namers leave, we still have our friends and family who are staying with us, for up to about a week. Depending on schedules and what not. That's still a huge chunk of people Liara. Then after our friends leave, we're going on our annual family vacation, which now includes Aria's family. So, it's our six, plus our six commandos, Alex's five, Katie's four, Oriana's three, Mom is two, your dad is two, and now Tevos's three. Is that right or am I forgetting someone?"

Liara halfheartedly smiled at him "I believe you covered it all. What does the amount of people here have to do with anything? What's three more… I mean six more. I forgot Tevos has three commandos. She has one commando per just like we do."

Shepard gave his wife the stink eye "We better not be paying for them, and I hope they acquired all their own reservations. The number of people that are here means our life won't get back to normal for three weeks. That's what it means, and all these people are driving me nuts. I just want to sit at home with my five girls. That's it."

Liara rolled her eyes then said. "You're right, but our life isn't normal and it's never just five girls here when a swarm of commandos live here as well. No, we're not paying for them. We visit this beach resort every other year, they prepare for the number of people we bring. I'm sure they can accommodate six more people. Especially for the couple hundred thousand credits I throw at them in order to accommodate what we want."

He leaned on the counter and rubbed his forehead "Lia it's not about six extra people and whether or not the resort can accommodate them. This has everything to do with Aria's family." He said then raked his hands down his face. "What I'm trying to say is, it's hard enough to keep an eye on my immediate family much less my entire family and NOW Aria's. Can you imagine if something happened to one of them? We're all dead… that's what! We all just became responsible for them. You know what activities are at that resort! Mountain climbing, deep-sea fishing, surfing, hiking, snorkeling, parasailing, sailing, ruins, cave expeditions, wildlife expeditions, and the list goes on. If one of them gets hurt, it's our asses."

She rolled her eyes "I know what activities they have there, that's exactly why we go there. What do you want them to do, sit in their room the whole time?" She said as she waved her hand around.

He grit his teeth then snapped, "What I want for them to do, is NOT to go!"

She snapped back at him "Well then, you need to take that up with your brother and or Aria, not me!"

He scoffed, "Fine, I will. Where is Tevos?"

Condescend tone she replied "I don't know Jon. Why don't you go search through the mob of people that are here?"

"I will" he replied then turned to walk outside to search for his brother and Tevos. As he was searching outside his two eldest daughters, Annabelle and Benezia ran into him almost knocking him over.

"Sorry, dad." They said as they leaned on their thighs to gather their breaths.

He looked at them to see that they were wearing Laser tag gear then said "You winning?"

Anna shrugged at him, "I don't know, but we both have three lives left and have a ton of kill shots."

Benezia replied, "Yea, we just took out Verdak and Mili. She was pretty pissed and on the warpath." She quickly looked into the crowd then said "We have to go, dad. We need to find Will and Jimmie."

He smiled, "Ok, good luck! Wait, where's your sister Gwyn?"

They shrugged, "Who knows dad, probably doing weird nerd stuff somewhere. You know how she is."

He chuckled. "Nerd stuff. She's so much like her mother." A few moments later, he noticed Milizkia headed toward his daughters, and he stopped her to give them some time to get away. "Hey, Milizkia! You having fun?"

She looked at him and then looked through the crowd as she said "Yes sir, we don't get to do too much of this at home. So, yea this is pretty cool. Oh, and call me Mili or Mil."

He nodded, "Oh, Ok, Mili. I'm glad you're having fun. Are you getting some kill shots out there?"

"I am, but I'm not used to not using my biotics. That's really crippling me here. At home, mom is all about biotics first, then using weapons second. Sadly, I only have one life left in this round." She lowered her head and stared at the ground then said, "My mother would be extremely disappointed if she were here. I haven't even made it to the top ten either."

Shepard furrowed his brow as he looked at her then gently placed a hand on her shoulder, "Yea but she's not here; it's ok if you don't make it to the top ten because it's all about having fun kiddo."

She took a deep breath. "Yea… you're right. Oh, Mr. Shepard, thank you so much for allowing my sister and I to go with you on your family vacation. We don't really do things like that as a family. So, this is really exciting!" She said then quickly looked through the crowd "I have to go though, thanks for the chat."

He smiled and gave her a thumbs-up. "Alright!" As she ran through the crowd, he dropped his head and mumbled "So, much for talking to Alex and Aria. Who am I to shatter a kid's heart? Now I just need to find my other two kids." (Lia, is Riley still with you?)

(Yes, she's here with the other toddlers.)

(Ok, I bumped into Anna and Nez not too long ago, and they're kicking ass playing Laser tag with the other older kids. I don't know where Gwynne is though.)

(Hmmm, she can only be in a handful of locations. I'll check her room. Check the non-crowded areas. Actually, look for Leelu'Zorah, Madelynn or Stephanie. She loves to hang around them. You spot them, and she'll be close by.)

(Leelu, Madi, and Steph got it!) He laughed to himself, "The nerd group." Then continued to make his way through the crowd until he bumped into his brother and a group of his friends.

They looked at Shepard, and his brother said, "Heeeey! Where have you been hiding? It took you long enough to get those drinks that I see you didn't come back with."

Shepard narrowed his eyes at his brother "I wasn't hiding. I got caught up talking to Liara about Aria's crew coming on our vacation. Then, I got run down by my kids and Mili playing laser tag. Now I'm trying to find Gwyn. So, yea I forgot about the main reason why I went inside."

His brother looked around as he scratched the back of his neck, "Yea, about Mili…."

Shepard waved his hand in front of him to stop "It's fine, but I do need to find Gwyn."

Alex nodded as he began to look through the crowd "Oh, right, Gwyn ummm, I saw her not too long ago with my Madi."

"Oh yea, where was that?" asked Shepard.

He pointed near a large makeshift canopy. "Oh, umm there, she's over there with Madi, Steph and like ten other kids."

Shepard's eyes follow his brother's finger, "I see her." He said then scrunched his brows "What are they doing? What is that?"

Garrus twitched his mandibles as he looked over at the girls "Hmm… it looks like they're building something.; robots maybe?

Shepard cocked his head as he replied "Robots? As in plural? Where did they get those?

Garrus let out a hearty laugh, "Probably the same place all the non-nerdy kids got a laser tag set."

Shepard chuckled then said "Oh, right… Liara."

Garrus nodded then bumped Shepard's arm "So… Shepard… I'm thinking rematch."

Alex slapped his hands together then quickly rubbed them as he said "Oooohh hell yea man! I'm going to kick all your asses."

Grunt bumped his fist into his hand and roared, "Yes, let's shoot something!"

Jack's ears perk up as she walked by and weaseled her way into their group then said "Hey pussies, I want in on this."

Liara: (What the hell kind of conversation are you all having over there?)

Shepard: (Typical Jack and Alex bickering. Dick, ass, and mouths. Ya know.)

Shepard: (Sorry Lia. If you would have seen what she just did. You would have had the same image.)

Miranda and Liara were having a pleasant conversation with her sister Orianna and Liara's sister-in-law Kathleen when Liara turned her head toward the crowd for a moment.

Miranda pinched her brows as she looked at Liara's facial expressions, her pausing while they talked and her glaring into the crowd. "Ok Lia, spill it, what's happening? You're more involved with whatever is happening out there than our conversation."

Liara looked back at her friend. "I'm sorry Miri. Jack and Alex are apparently bickering at each other again. You know how they are."

Liara shook her head as she chuckled "I don't know about that." She paused then looked out into the crowd then back at Miranda "If you could hear the vile things Alex is saying then you'd be angry."

Miranda looked at her sister then Kathleen then at Liara as she said "Well, we all know how loud you can be Lia!"
