Ace went to the mailbox and got the mail, reading it as he headed inside. There were a few letters to Marco and Pops, and some ads, but there was also a letter addressed to the house, not to a person. It was probably an ad as well, as a few did this, and he knew as long as it was either addressed to him or to the house, he was allowed to open it. So he opened as he walked, and it was a short letter and it had the stamp from the state at the bottom. It looked like a serious letter. He then read it, and felt himself stop in his tracks. It didn't say a lot, but it said this; Prepare for nuclear war, familiarize yourself with bunkers in your area, and buy iodine tablets. In case of a fallout. It was just in a more professional way in the letter, but it said that. He had heard some at school talking about there being a third world war, but it was this close? That couldn't be.

He felt himself frozen in the spot he stood, feeling his breath hitching and pulse racing. He didn't know how long he stood still, but a car alarm had him get out of his trance, before he hastily walked inside and headed up to Marco and Pops' room, not caring it was before 8 as he was up early, as he often was. When he barged in, the two were awake and seeming to be reading, looking up at him, both frowning. "Ace, what is it, yoi? You look scared." Said Marco as he stood up from bed. And he probably did, he felt terrified. He tried to speak, but found out he couldn't and just held the letter out, and Marco took it. "You opened one of our letters?" Ace shook his head. "N-no. I-it was a-addressed to the house." Marco nodded and read it before he frowned more. "What the… They send out these things now?" He asked as he handed it to Pops, who also frowned as he read it, the man giving a thoughtful hum. "And just addressed to the house? This is mean."

Ace didn't know what to do, he felt a tear fall down his cheek as he tried to speak. "A-are we going to war?!" Marco looked at him and crouched down. "No, no. There is a war out there, yoi. Between Russia and Ukraine, that is far away. This has to be a mistake, yoi." Okay, so there was a war. "Wh-what if they attack us!" Marco shook his head. "No, I have heard nothing suggesting that, yoi. We're safe." Ace blinked. "B-but the l-letter?" Marco hummed. "Has to be a mistake, yoi. I promise you, we are safe." Ace nodded. "O-okay…" Marco gave a smile to him. "Listen, why don't we go down and make some breakfast, yoi? I will be down in a few seconds, okay?" Ace nodded, maybe making food would help. He trusted Marco, if he said they were safe, he believed that. He moved out of the room and he hoped they really were safe.

Marco gave a breath as he moved to read the letter again. "They really send this out now? Just addressed to the house, yoi? Here I have been trying to shield them from the ongoing crisis there and then the state does this?" Whitebeard sighed. "Apparently. I get that it scared Ace." Marco did too. Marco shook his head. "No, this isn't okay. I am calling them, this is not okay, yoi! Where is my phone?" Whitebeard sighed. "Dear, even if they are open today, they don't open before 10, and I doubt they are open on a Saturday." That was true and he gave a sigh. "This is really not okay. I've been trying so hard to not watch news while they are awake, and the state just goes and does this, yoi?" Whitebeard nodded. "I agree. This is just mean." It was, and he was mad.

Marco took a breath. "I will call them on Monday, for now, I have breakfast to make, yoi." Whitebeard chuckled. "You do. I'm just going to finish his chapter, okay?" Marco nodded. "Sure, yoi. I'll head down and try to calm Ace down more." He said as he gave a kiss to his fiance, before he headed down and he would give them a stern call on Monday. The day did go by fine, but he could see Ace was tense at times, looking scared. But the weekend went by fine.

When Monday came, he sighed as he moved the phone away from his ear and looked at Whitebeard next to him, having just called the state. "They just said it was a precaution, even though it most likely won't happen, yoi. Or they hope so, but they would rather have sent it out than not having done it. I am so furious with them!" Whitebeard nodded. "We'll send in an official complaint." They really should, as this was so bad and it had scared Ace so much. He really hoped this would be the last of this.

Ace hummed as he played a game on his phone, listening to the clock give a chime as it hit noon, before he heard a sort of siren from outside. That was weird. He walked to the door and opened it, and it got louder. He didn't know what this was, so he looked back when he saw Curiel. "What's that sound?" Curiel hummed as he was reading something on his phone. "The fly alarm." He said as he walked up to the second floor. The fly alarm? What was that? He took his phone out and searched it, and when the answers came up, he felt his breath stop. The fly alarm is made to warn citizens about bomb aircrafts, to seek shelter. No no no! They needed to leave! They weren't safe here! Why was Curiel so calm?! He almost ran to the kitchen where Marco was, and looked at the man who was making some snacks. "We need to leave! The alarm is on!" Marco frowned. "Why do we need to leave for that, yoi?" Ace tried to take a breath, feeling tears falling. "I- it the fly alarm! A bombing airplane is coming!" Marco frowned, before he gave a nod and a hum, before walking over to him.

Marco moved his hand to his shoulder as he crouched down. "Have I ever lied to you, yoi?" Ace shook his head, a hand drying some tears. "No." Marco nodded, "And I won't start now either. That noise you're hearing was once called the fly alarm, but not anymore, yoi." Ace blinked. "What?" Marco nodded. "Yes. Now, it means this; Seek information. And today is the second Sunday in January, meaning they are just testng it, yoi." Ace blinked, before he frowned a bit as he thought. "It's just… a test?" Marco nodded. "Yes." Marco then hugged him. "I get that you're scared, this is scary, and that letter didn't help at all, yoi. But as long as I live, I will keep you safe." Ace nodded. "Okay." Marco gave a smile as he moved back and looked at him. "But it is fine to be scared, it is healthy. But know you are safe, yoi." Ace nodded, still not sure about this. Maybe Marco was just being kind?

Marco gave a breath. "Have you never heard this before?" Ace blinked. What? "N-no?" Marco nodded and walked towards the living room. "Come here, yoi." He nodded and did, seeing Whitebeard sitting there and looked concerned when he saw him, probably since he was crying. Marco took the newspaper and showed it to him. "Here, page 9, yoi." Ace blinked, before he read it. At 12 o'clock the fly alarm will be sounded. It then went on and said how it had been used during the second world war, and that now, it wasn't a fly alarm, but an alarm to seek information, as Marco had said. "Oh…" Marco nodded. "So, nothing to worry about, okay, yoi?" Ace nodded, moving his hands to dry his tears. "Okay." Marco gave a smile to him. "Nothing will happen to you, okay? You're safe here with us, yoi." Ace nodded, that was good to know. Marco looked at him. "Want to help me in the kitchen? Or do you want to play some, yoi?" Ace thought it over. "Maybe play some…" Marco nodded. "Do that, and if you have any concern, just ask, okay, yoi?" Ace nodded, he could do that.

He then went to head to his room, when Marco spoke. "The alarm will also sound again in 5 minuites, yoi. Don't be scared when it does." Ace nodded, he knew now, it was okay, even though he still felt a bit nervous. But he would try and calm down and play some on his phone.

Marco looked at his fiance when Ace had left. "Isn't the town close to an alarm? He has never heard this, yoi." Whitebeard seemed to get what this was about as he gave a hum. "Not the part he was in. No shelter close by, so they deemed it unnecessary." Marco sighed. "I should have warned him, yoi. Poor Ace, he was actually sure a bombing aircraft was coming." Whitebeard nodded. "I get that if he has never heard it. He's still tense about that letter." Ace was, and he was still mad at the state, which had just been 'it was a precaution', a stupid answer. But they couldn't do anything. He also told his children, the youngest, to not open any mail that was addressed to either not them or to the house, only allowed to open unaddressed things and things addressed to them. They all accepted it and that was good. Ace was tense for a while, but slowly calmed down after a while. There were a lot of new things for Ace, and he should have known he had never heard the fly alarm before. He only hoped things would calm down so he could say, with a hundred percent certainty, that the war with Russia and Ukraine was over. But he guessed it would take some time. Hopefully, nothing more would terrify Ace.
