**POV Kairon**

The next day

I rush towards my opponent, My heavy and powerful steps pounding the concrete arena beneath me. The world around me feels as though its in slow motion as I hold my Witchblade in my right hand. My body is relaxed and acting on instinct as I approach the pink haired warrior in front of me. I wind up my sword arm and let loose.

**no POV**

Earlier that day (7:30 am)

Kairon woke up to discover he was in his room still in the clothes he wore the day before. He fought his way out of the clutches of his comfy bed and walked to the door of his room. He walked out the bedroom yawning and scratching his back, making his way to the bathroom. He removed the mostly buttoned woodland camouflage shirt and dropped it to the floor as he ran some cold water in the sink. His bare chest and arms weren't anywhere near to being like a body builders, but his muscles were toned through years of continuous combat and training. After the water had made a significant pool, he stopped the tap and splashed his face with the colorless fluid from the white porcelain bowl. As the cold liquid gently slapped against his skin, he felt himself begin to wake up and relax slightly. He repeated the process three times before James walked by, interrupting his waking ritual with a simple greeting. "Morning dude." James said quietly, being careful not to wake anyone else in the house. Kairon jumped and spun round seeming to forget that other people was in this house. Kairon's quick motion made James jump in shock to. "Wow, relax. I'm not gunna hurt you dude." James stated with sympathy and slight laughter in his voice.

Kairon reached into the sink after regaining his breath and pulled the plug holding the water and placed it on the side of the sink. "Sorry, I'm not used to being greeted in the morning." Kairon said with a smile on his face. After drying his face and picking up his shirt, he left the bathroom putting the shirt on and redoing most of the buttons up.

James then entered the bathroom and brushed his teeth. "Your ready for your combat test today?" James asked between spitting toothpaste and re-brushing his teeth.

"I'm nervous but I'm pretty psyched to show people what I can do without actually need to hurt anyone." Kairon said with a bubbly tone.

James finished brushing his teeth and left the bathroom. "Well, I'm looking forward to seeing it myself. Just try and keep you sanity okay dude?"

The two laughed quietly as they went downstairs to the kitchen to get a drink. "So whats your normal morning routine?" Kairon asked curiously as James handed him a cola - which he finished quickly.

"Well I wake up, brush my teeth, get a coffee, smoke a cigarette and then go for a jog to the academy." James replied happily, "Why whats on your mind?"

"Well I was wondering if you wanted to head up to the academy together?" Kairon asked timidly.

"Sure!" Said James, happily pouring his coffee, which was conveniently made in the coffee machine already, into a thermos travel mug.

After the coffee was made how James liked it the two went outside and James lit up his cigarette. "This is nice." He said out loud.

"Whats nice?" Asked Kairon as him and James were learning against the Manor.

"Usually, I spend my mornings alone. It's kinda nice having someone to talk to in the morning for a change." As he spoke he moved his packet if cigarettes to Kairon to offer him one. Kairon looked back with a blank expression, not understanding James' gesture. "Do you want one?" James asked politely.

"I've never tried one before, but sure why not." Kairon took a cigarette from the pack and griped it between his index and middle finger, holding it close to his knuckles rather like Stein. "Thanks man." He added abruptly.

James explained then showed Kairon how to smoke the cigarette properly. James provided a lighter for his to light his cigarette with. Kairon then sparked up and did as James had instructed. Kairon breathed a bit too harshly on his first drag and began coughing. "Nice!" James said in a deep laugh. "Your a quick learner dude." He continued as Kairon quickly adjusted the way he smoked so it didn't hurt his throat but also stay within the instructions he was provided with. After a minute he was smoking like a pro and felt more relaxed than he ever did before. After they both finished smoking they doused there cigarettes in a near-by tin can with a small amount of water in it with a couple of filters from previous cigarettes. James then had a sip of coffee and they started their jog to the academy.

Meanwhile at the academy

"Everything ready for Kairon's combat trial?" Chirped a very organised and serious Maka.

"AI systems are online, same for the Madness monitors." Said Kid over the announcement system.

"All the bots are in position and linked to the computers." Sang Tsubaki who had decided to not tie her hair up with her bobble.

"Alright you all set Crona?" Asked Maka happily as she turns around.

"Hell yeah! I was born ready." Said a very confident Crona, her pink hair highlighting and curving around her face. Crona used to be incredibly timid when the gang first met her but after Ragnarok was successfully removed from Crona's soul, thanks to the surgical genius that is Franken Stein ten years ago, Crona has become a very powerful and confident, not only as a warrior but as a teacher at the academy. Crona has changed her style a few times over time but usually sticks with New Rock heavy duty combat boots with pink laces, black leggings, a black combat skirt that extended to just above her knees with white tribal patterns at the bottom, a black and white horizontally striped tank top and a black trench coat. On her back rested her weapon, a middle-ages style two handed great sword which is clearly well made and well looked after. The guard and handle were a shining dark silver color while the grip was made from white grip tape. The blade was rather wide and made from a smooth black steel material which rarely required sharpening. Crona's hair glowed a radiant pink with anticipation, she never had the opportunity to fight another demon sword wielder before and was looking forward to seeing what Kairon can do.

"Great now all we need to do is wait for Kairon, who should be arriving in about five minutes." Maka beamed happily.

Meanwhile with James and Kairon

"You alight there dude?" Asked frost as he reached for his coffee filled thermos mug, which rested nicely on the right side of his belt. Frost had decided on a digital urban camouflage today. His shirt was covered in grey, light grey and dark grey squares of different sizes, his sleeves were rolled neatly to just above his elbows and was tucked into his trousers. On his head was a black beret which slanted over his right ear. A small Shinigami mask was attached to the left side of the beret in line with his left eye. His trousers, which also matched the camouflage on his shirt, were held in place around his black combats boots which made a hard thud every time they touched the concrete. They were held in place by a small piece of green elastic fabric with a small brass hook at either end. His belt was grey to match the color scheme of the camo. On his belt rested two holstered at the back which seemed to hold pistols or magnums, but it was a mystery as they were currently empty. On the left and right side were what looked magazine holders for easy reloading while dual wielding. An inch further towards the front from the Mag holder on his right was his thermos mug and in the same place on his left was an empty hard case used for carrying tech and sensitive equipment. Just above his gun holsters were two knife holsters. The one on the right held a black five millimeter hunting knife and the one on the left held a throwing knife. This was something he referred to as his recon load-out, it had what he needed but didn't leave him too heavy or noisy.

"Yeah I'm great! Don't worry about me, I got this." Kairon decided it would be a good idea to wear a green military style tank top and forest green camouflage trousers with a pair of combat boots that Frost gave him. His trousers were also tied round his boots by twist ties - the green elastic fabric with brass hook at the end.

"Good cause I don't want you out of breath. You have your trail today. You ready for it?" James stated and questioned curiously between breaths.

"You know I'm ready!" Kairon almost shouted in enthusiasm. the purple from his eyes faded to grey then exploded into life, glowing a stunning electric blue as he formed his sword in its sheath on the left side of his belt.

Kairon noticed James slow down and he did the same till they eventually stopped at the base of the stairs to the academy. Kairon looked at the humongous accent of stone steps. "Still think you go this?" James questioned sarcastically.

"You know it brother!" Kairon shouted with enthusiasm as he took a few steps. James shot Kairon a confused look as Kairon took his eyes off of the peak of the stairs and met his gaze. "For momentum!" He shouted as he braced himself to rush up the steps. The electric blue in his eyes glowed even brighter and then changed to a deeper shade of sapphire as he prepared himself to sprint up the never ending accent. He placed his right foot behind his left about shoulders width apart. He smirk as he began his initial movement, bringing his right leg forward. As his body weight shifted from his right foot to his left, he left foot dug into the ground making a foot shaped crater as he propelled himself above the first few steps. After his right leg made contact with the stairs he began his accent by running up two stairs at a time.

James was dumbfounded and then snapped back to reality as he realized he was being left behind. "Yo! Wait up!" He shouted after Kairon who seemed to be defying gravity as he rush up two stairs at a time.

"Keep up Frost!" Kairon shouted back effortlessly turning his head to watch James wave after him.

He decided to be a little merciful and slowed his pace slightly, not enough to notice but enough for him to catch up. James eventually caught up when they both got half way up the stairs. "Thanks man! Gotta say you surprised me there! I didn't think you could jump that high!" James shouted slightly over the loud sound of synchronized combat boots slamming the concrete beneath them.

"Thanks man! I'm surprised too!" Kairon shouted back at equal volume.

Kairon's eyes still burned a furiously deep shade of sapphire which slightly unnerved James but hen he thought about it, he only had to worry if his eyes turned red. He then relaxed a little and mainly focused on keeping up with Kairon. The rest of his focus was on the peak of the stairs which seemed to come closer faster and faster with every step. They were about half way when Maka appeared at the top waving down and shouting encouragement. "Half way there boys keep it up!" She then noticed Kairon's determined stare combined with his sapphire eyes. It worried her sightly but, like James, she thought about it and chilled herself out. Behind her were two cans of ice cold cola, just for them. The boys were finally three quarters on the way up But she seemed startled when she realized the pace they were going. She began hearing the panting of exertion reminding her of the first day she started at the academy and how she struggled to ascend the mighty steps of the DWMA.

"HOME STRETCH BRO!" Shouted Kairon to James, breaking Maka's nostalgia. Maka looked back down to the boys rushing up the stairs and then at Kairon who had seemed to move in slow motion on his right leg roughly twenty steps from the top as James kept running. James looked back after hearing a loud boom behind him to see Kairon had vanished. James heard another boom ahead of him, like someone hit the ground hard and fast. Much to his astonishment, James found Kairon at the top of the stairs and slowed down in shock, eventually stopping when he reached the top and stood next to Maka.

"Two in a row Kairon! I'm impressed." James panted admirably as he removed his beret.

"Thanks man! Same to you!" Kairon Also panting between breaths and sweat trickled down his face.

"Here you go boys!" Maka chirped with a slight tone on amazement at the ascension speed as she presented them with the cola.

"AWESOME! THANKS!" Kairon and James shouted simultaneously as they grabbed the cans and rested it on their foreheads. The chilling sensation Filled their faces with delight.

"Shall we head in and start your test Kairon?" Asked Maka, anxious to reevaluate his combat skills while he is sane.

"HELL YEAH!" Kairon screamed in enthusiasm as he opened the can and turned to walk into the Academy.

**POV KAIRON**

It took us about ten minuets to get to the arena but it felt like an eternity. The large oak double doors opened to reveal an open plan circle lay out. The walls were made out a white stone material which extended right up to the ceiling which must have been at least fifty feet high. The floor was grey concrete which had an odd thud against my boots, but I quickly forgot about it when I saw a control room. It was opposite the door and was exactly half way between the floor and the ceiling. Inside were a few familiar faces. I saw Kid and Stein on what seemed to be a computer of some kind. Soul and Blackstar stood behind them, just making small talk from what I could tell. Tsubaki was on ground floor in the center on the arena talking to a pink hair girl, she seemed kinda familiar but I could quite put a name to the face. They both saw us three enter the room and waved over. "Cya in ten Tsubaki!" The pink haired girl said with a cheeky and confident wink.

"Yeah cya in ten!" Replied Tsubaki as they exchanged high fives. The pink haired girl walked towards the control and observation room as Tsubaki turned and walk towards me, James and Maka. "Your finally here!" Tsubaki shouted over as she started to walk over. "We're ready when you are Kairon." She stated calmly as we came into talking distance.

"Then let's do this!" I say powerfully, slamming my knuckles together. My eyes sharpen as I see something begin to form behind Tsubaki.

Tsubaki smirked at my confidence and enthusiasm. She looked towards Maka and James who stood either side of me. "Well then if you two want to head to the observation room." She paused to look back at me. "While I explain what you will be fighting against, Kairon."

"You got it, good luck bro!" James said as him and Maka started to walk towards the observation room.

"Right then, we are going to evaluate your combat stats against these guys." Tsubaki stated formally as she gestured to the nearly formed figure standing roughly ten feet away. It looks like the light is forming into solid squares which then began to change shape and color.

"What is that?" I ask. I'm shocked to see it become a Kishin and step back to ready my sword. Tsubaki then puts her arm out in front of me to block my path. I look up concerned as she looks back with a smile on her face.

"This, Kairon." She begins as she walks toward the Kishin. "Is Digi'struct Technology. We use the computers up their." She explains as she gestured the control room. "To create, program and control these guys down here, you with me so far?" She asks patiently as my dumbfounded face makes her giggle.

I shake myself from my moronic trance and slap my cheeks lightly to restart my thought process. "I think I'm with you, they are like holograms right?" I ask, still amazed the whole thing.

"That's right only they have a solid form." Tsubaki responded as she placed her right hand on the Kishin's left shoulder, making it move slightly off balance and then shift back. "There is just a few questions I need to ask you first, that cool?" Tsubaki questioned kindly.

"Well you just asked one you might as well ask the rest." I as we begin to chuckle slightly.

"Cool, how many known weapon forms do you have?" Tsubaki asks.

"Four." I reply calmly. Tsubaki jots down my answers with a pen that she grabbed out of her pocket, onto a clipboard holding a piece of paper that conveniently was held in the Kishin's left hand.

"Can you switch between them freely?" Asked Tsubaki

"Yes." I say in confidence.

"How often can you switch between weapon forms?" Asked Tsubaki.

"When I form the weapon I can place it on my body in a sheath but if I haven't pre-made the weapon, I have to wait a couple of seconds for the next blade to fully form." I say with a relaxed tone.

"Lastly, which weapon form do you mainly use?" Tsubaki asks looking at me with a smile.

"I tend to stick to my sword, its the most powerful weapon I can use without loosing my mind too quickly." I respond happily.

She finishes writing my last answer and then looks up from her clipboard to my with a sweet smile. "Awesome well if you like we can try all your weapon forms but you don't have to we can stick to one for now if you like?" Tsubaki asked with that sweet smile still on her face.

"If its cool can we stick to just my sword for this? I'd rather not loose my mind and fail this." I question, hoping she doesn't notice the sadness in my voice as I look down slightly.

"Yeah that's cool, and Kairon." Said Tsubaki softly. I look towards her with heavy thoughts on my mind. "This isn't pass or fail, we are just finding out your strengths and weaknesses. That's all." She said kindly. As I hear these words, I feel my heavy thoughts and doubts be banished from my mind.

"Awesome." I say, banishing the doubt from my voice.
