**One Day Later, POV Kairon**

"You sure this was a good idea Frost? Your old man seemed pretty pissed." I asked full of bewilderment and worry. Frost seemed pretty quiet since we set off from the death room to meet the rest of the team. Frost's pale skin shivered in fear on his fathers scolding.

**Thirty Minutes Earlier, POV Kairon**

"Hey Dad." Frost begins with confidence. "I'm going on that recon mission I told you about to the Jade Forest. I'll be back in a few days." He finishes chirpily. Frost seemed to be unusually confident.

"Alright then James I'll see you when you return." Lord Death responded happily. He and Soul were working on Soul's bike together, I had no idea that Lord Death had any idea about the mechanical side of vehicles but I guess you learn something new everyday.

"I'm taking Kairon with me if that's cool?" Frost requests calmly after taking a deep breath.

"Oh that's cool you two have... WHAT!" Lord Death started calmly like nothing particularly changed and then screamed as he stood up and spun on his heels. "ABSOLUTELY NOT! I'VE TOLD YOU THAT HE IS NOT READY FOR..." Lord Death quickly stopped shouting when he noticed my presence. The way his anger seemed to take off made me think they have had this conversation before. After clearing his throat and regaining his composure he then began to talk to me. "I'm sorry Kairon, it's nothing personal I just don't think you are ready to complete your first mission yet." His voice is calm and reassuring.

"I don't blame you to be honest Sir, I'm not overly confident that I can control myself in a fight." I agree attempting to hide my slight sorrow.

"Dad, it's been five weeks and all he has done is train. How can you say he isn't." Frost tries to convince Lord Death, almost pleading to let me go with him. "It will be a good chance to get him used to working in a team."

Lord Death said nothing in response. He only adopted a terrifying death gaze. The colour completely flooded out of Frost, I've never seen anything like it. I watched in horror and silence, too afraid that if I said anything he would start staring at me instead. "Well." His voice suddenly shot through and made me jump. "I suppose no matter what I say you will still take him with you, but if anything goes wrong it's your mess to clean, clear?" Lord Death finished flashing me a subtle smile while Frost tried to collection himself.

"Thank you Dad you won't regret it." Frost said trying to shake off what he went through.

**Current Time, POV Kairon**

"Yeah, I'm fine." Frost shakily hoisted his right hand a shot me a thumbs up as he finished with a nervous giggle. His smile was weak and forced. He obviously wasn't alright something was bugging him and it wasn't the scolding from his Dad. Frost had switched out his urban gear, to a digital forest camouflage. He had his Recon Loudout equiped, complete with two M9 Beretta hand guns in the pistol holsters and a boot sheathed knife.

"So why me? Of all the power houses the academy has to offer you pick a double edged sword. I just don't understand." I begin to contemplate his numerous answers, was he really doing this for me?

The colour came back to Frost's skin when I changed the topic. "I'm brought you along so you can finally get your first mission under your belt of course." Frost gave me a reassuring nod and a winked with his right eye to try and reassure me but I could tell he was lying.

"You can't lie to me Frost." My voice is slightly harsher than how I normally talk to try and goad the information out of him. It seems to work when he sighs out loud, making me smile inwardly. "I still got it." I congratulate myself under my breath.

"I'm doing this for me too." I'm puzzled by his answer and sudden change of tone. He seems ashamed.

"What do you mean?" I try and probe him for answers without trying to pry too deep.

"It's hard, and I don't understand why, because when I'm around you I'm reminded that deep down your a good person. However, when your gone all I can think is that your a demon sword who nearly killed my mom. I don't want to think of you that way and I understand you weren't in control of your actions." His voice begins at quite a calm and neutral tone, but then slowly transitions into sadness. "So I brought you along with me to hopefully get the message through my thick skull." He looks at me and sends a friendly smile through the sorrow.

"I'm sorry man, but I'm sure that we can get the ball rolling between us." I beam back a reassuring smile.

"Don't be sorry, it should be me apologizing for the way I rolled out the red carpet when you got to the city." Frost's tone finally stabilized. I'm glad he is starting to feel better.

"Yeah it certainly made me feel famous, I wasn't even in the city for twenty minutes and I had people cheering my name and people try to kill me. Talk about a one hit wonder!" I joke around enthusiastically to try and set a lighter mood. I know its only been five weeks but i feel like i can honestly call him my brother.

He starts to laugh and I shortly follow. "Yeah give it about half a year and I bet people will be making movies about you." Frost's reply leaves me in hysterics as I struggle to keep pace. After we both regain our composure, I realize we have been walking towards Death INDIE. "Are we getting a coffee for the road or something dude cause I still don't have any cash to my name."

Frost hesitates for a moment and then realizes the connection I've made and laughs softly. "Nah we are meeting the team there. I can grab you one if you want one though?"

"Oh its cool man I'm good for now. Thanks anyway." I respond happily to his generous offer.

About five minutes later we reach the cafe and there are three people standing outside. Two of which I haven't met before but the third guy in the beanie hat is someone I'm sure I've seen before. Frost first walks over and stands on the left of the two people i don't know. "First i want to introduce my weapon partners. "Alexia Lockheart," He states averting my attention to a woman standing next to him smoking a cigar.

"Call me Alex though okay?." Her response is calm and confident with plenty of reason to be. Alex roughly stands at about 5,7". Her left hand is behind her head as a make-shift pillow while her right hand reached up to grab the cigar and then was hung from her belt loop by her thumb. Her body leans against the wall while her legs are extended out in front of her to keep her center of gravity behind her. Her hair is raven black extending to just over her shoulders while curving round her face. Her skin has a light and natural tan which resonated rather well with her neon green eyes, I'm actually kinda jealous earning a small internal chuckle. Her cargo Jeans were grey which was a good choice to go with her urban camo tank top, emphasizing her toned figure. One thing that strikes me are her Juggernaut boots. They are heavy and plated and reached up to just under her knee. They were typically given to heavy weapon soldiers and clearly served well as bullet sponges from the scars and burns to the plating. A black suppressed Spas-12 pump-action shotgun hung from a sling on her left side. On the sling were red shotgun shells. On the left her grey combat belt rested two ammo pouches, both marked with an individual symbol. The one closest to her hip had a fire symbol and the other had an explosion symbol on it. Just past them was a magazine holster holding three mags. On the right side hung a hook mounted, black and rose red accented knuckle duster. A gun metal grey Desert Eagle 44 was rested in a holster from her right thigh.

"And that's Nathan Croft." He nods over to the man in the middle.

"Hey. Just call me Nath if you want" He greets me with a warm smile and kind sea blue eyes resonating well with his pale skin. His hair was cosmic blue, short and spiked into a low Mohawk. He seemed to by the tech whiz of the group. As I see him look back at his left wrist, on which was a Visual Hologram Interface (V.H.I. for short) which projected a small two dimensional map while he moved it with his right hand. He was armed with a G18 hang gun which hung from a holster on the right side of his chest. On his left ear was a cross communications device linked to small screen in front of his left eye. On his hands were black finger-less thermal gloves. He is wearing a darker shade of camouflage that frost was wearing but with a turtle shell pattern. His shirt was tucked into his combat trousers, held up by a black belt which had three ammo pouches attached near his right hip, two hard cases on the right and a Tanto knife in its sheath on the back. He was also wearing a pair of black German power boots which looked quite comfortable.

"Nice to meet you! I'm Kairon Gorgon." I respond with a warm and confident tone. I then look at the guy on the right with a puzzled and inquisitive look. without realizing, I start to shuffling forward till I'm right in front of him. I continue to star for a moment and then take a breath. "Who are you again?" I ask puzzled and dumbfounded. A moment a silence fell upon us that seemed to stretch on forever. Until it was finally broken By Alex bursting at the seems with laughter. Soon after we all join in the hysterics. After the laughter dies down and I regathered my thoughts I look back at him. "Seriously though i forgot your name sorry. I know I've met you i just don't remember." I say embarrassed scratching the back of my head with a nervous laugh.

"My name is Sal. Nice to meet you... again." He responds happily while we shake hands.

"Yeah, same here." I respond with a friendly smile.

"Right! Shall we make a move?" Frost asks with a friendly yet commanding tone.

"Yeah, how far is it?" Sal asks curiously. His long jet black hair flowed effortlessly through the wind, allowing me to see an electric blue streak on the left side of his fringe. He , of course, is wearing his signature black beanie hat with a small gold Shinigami mask near the base of the fabric in line with his left eye. He was sporting a Slayer band shirt with a plain black zip-up hoodie. Black denim jeans, and black, grey and green high-top trainers. On his back rested a two handed Battle-Axe. The blade was double edged and closely resembled a demonic dragon at the top of the Axe was a spike that extended to just past the blades. On the blade itself was a pair of red demon eyes. The back of the blade seems to have two arm loops attached in the middle with a black metal handle at the base of the spike. At the top of the grip there is a circular black metal object. At first glace it looks like a guard but if you look closely there is a red jewel inside it. At the base of the hilt was an angry Shinigami mask with devil horns. On his hips rested two short swords that roughly resembled machetes. A small blue ribbon was tied through a hole at the base of each hilt. The handles were curved and was wrapped in white grip. A finger hole was located at the base of each blade allowing the wielder to spin the blade for throwing momentum. The whole blade gradually curved upwards. The bottom of the blade was jagged up to about half way and was smoothed off at the end.

"Four klicks south." Nathan answered the question like he already knew the answer, maybe he was already looking it up.

"Kilcks?" I ask softly looking at frost, a blank expression covered my face.

"A kilck is a kilometer." Frost whispers softly in response. "But why are you whispering?"

His question earns a look of surprise, I wasn't really sure what possessed me to whisper. "I didn't wanna seem like an idiot." I respond, still in a whisper.

"Hey! If you two love birds have finished caressing each others ears our ride is waiting." Alex shouts impatiently as she drags Nathan and marches towards the pick up area.

"Shut up were coming!" Responds Frost with an annoyed tone and starts jogging to catch up as me and Sal jog behind him.

**Five Minutes Later**

"You know how to drive one of these things sir?" Frost was talking to a sergeant who was in charge of forms of transport.

"Of course I do!" Frost responds taking the keys that sergeant retrieved. "Who's ready for a road trip!" He shouts back enthusiastically. It's like he never gets to drive anywhere.

"Well I sure as hell am!" Shouts Alex. "Some open road and fresh will really do my lungs a world of good."

"Bitch please your just gunna sleep and slack off for the trip there, why brag your gunna get anything good out of it?" Sal questions sarcastically.

Sal and Alex then collide foreheads and begin to push and shove one and other. "You wanna say that again wise guy? The only person I'm gunna see slackin' off is you when I put you ass in a wheelchair!" Alex retorts aggressively.

"Yeah you want another beat down like our last fight then ill entertain you for a while." Sal growls back tauntingly.

"Shut up you Ass Hat! I told you I wasn't feelin' so hot that day!" Alex screams defensively

"That's Lieutenant Ass Hat to you!" Sal commands angrily.

"How come you gotta' bring rank into every fight? you compensating for somethin?" Alex laughs tauntingly.

"Ugh enough!" Frost demands putting an end to the rip fest. "Just get in the truck I'll give you details on the way."

"Alright cap' wad'a ya' say Sal, truce?" Alex question with a smile and extending her left arm for a hand shake.

"Truce." Sale agrees while reciprocating the hand shake.
