**POV Kairon**
"Guys, you don't have to do this. This is a witch we are dealing with. She is only after me, you should run and get back up." My tone is cold yet concerning. I don't mean to underestimate them. It's just a needless risk.
"No, Kairon." Frost's voice is calm and assertive.
"We are a team." Alex's voice is next to sound out, with her chirpy aggression.
"So we fight together." Sal's voice is dark yet caring.
"Try to remember that okay?" Nathan concluded happily."
I pause for a moment, realizing I wont win against them. "Alright, sounds good to me. Let's take this bitch down!" My body posture changes with my new found enthusiasm. My new friends stand by my side. Weapons ready and war faces on.
The witch Lorenza stared down at the force she faced. "The son of a Reaper, The Infamous Angel Slayer, The Twins of Lucifer and The Traitor. You are all nothing compared to me!" She screamed as a whirlwind of force shot up from the ground beneath us. "I was just going to kill the Demon Sword, but now i'll kill you all for your INSOLENCE!" Her voice boomed through the whipping sound of the wind. I quickly spring into action, jumping into the force. I shot through the air like a rocket. Lorenza spots me hovering above her. "No you don't!" She shouts as I begin to fall to the ground, following the path of her arm.
Blackstar taught me how to use gravity to my advantage. I draw my Witchblade as my decent began and poured all my energy into the sword .My combat boots make a thunderous boom as I hit the ground. The blade glowed a deep crimson as I begun my underarm vertical swing. I release all the energy at once as the blade lined up with my leg and with a monstrous force a crimson energy blade formed and rushed towards the witch. The ground in front of me was ripped apart as Lorenza lost her footing. The impact was loud followed by the sound of shattering glass and a loud scream. "SAL YOUR UP!" I scream in urgency.
"Right!" He acknowledges and summons his Axe. He rushed towards the witch who was trapped in the debris. Sal slammed the ground with his weapon. The impact shot a thin layer of stone upwards from beneath the witch. With one almighty jump, Sal launched himself over his target and sent her hurtling to the ground.
"It won't be that easy boys!" Her shout was made all the more intimidating with her perfect landing.
"Then please take all the attacks you want!" Sal shouts down as he throws his Axe straight at Lorenza. She quickly steps back to avoid it. The Axe's wielder quickly lands next to his weapon, rips his weapon from the floor and begins a deadly flurry of attacks. "This doing anything for you?" I hear him taunt menacingly while Lorenza struggles to keep up.
'Close quarters is clearly her weak point.' "Frost. If me and Sal can get her in the air, do you think you could slow her down?" I shout across at the calm captain.
"Yeah, I'll be ready in thirty seconds!" He shouts back as his weapon begins to glow green. I see Alex suddenly glow the same way and fly to Frost's rifle. Her shotgun sling neatly lands on Frost's shoulder. The shotgun now hangs behind Frost out of the way as Alex's green energy reshaped itself into a grenade launcher and attached itself to the rifle. "Soul RESONANCE!" Black and green energy flowed out of Frost like a fast moving aura. His rifle expanded and changed shape into a heavy fifty caliber Sniper Rifle. It looked quite similar to a Barrett M99. However, This sniper rifle was matte black and had black and green spikes of energy that jolted out of the sloped part of the rifle. "Cover me!" Frost commanded as he crouched and looked through his scope for a lock.
"Roger!" I reply as I turn to the witch once more. "On your right!" I shout to Sal and I swing my sword horizontally and head level. Sal quickly ducks as the second blade catches Lorenza by surprise forcing her back. Lorenza tries to increase the distance between us by using her telekinesis to raise her momentum. "Don't let her run! Close Quarters is her weakness!" I shout to Sal, rushing past him. Lorenza, still hovering, brings her arms apart, leaving them their for a moment. As I stop to analyse, she brings her hands together, making a thunderous clap. A large wave of kinetic force, only visible by its shimmer and path of destruction, was suddenly rushing for me, Sal and Frost.
"Sal! Shield Column on me! Kairon! Get behind Sal!" Frost bellowed his commands clearly and powerfully through the chaotic shit storm of sound we were caught up in. Sal immediately jumped in front of Frost as he detached the haft from his battle axe holding the blade like a shield with his left arm. I quickly jumped behind Sal and sheathed my Witchblade. I studied Sal, worried he couldn't take the full force alone. His axe blade then ignited in black flames. It wasn't going to be enough. I could see it in Sal's body language. I quickly place my right hand on Sal's left shoulder and try to resonate with him. 'My wavelength is too chaotic. Try to relax.' My thoughts do there job as my wavelength begins to stabilize and eventually resonate with Sal's. The small fire became a raging inferno twice the size of the blade. The wave quickly catches us and an explosive sound echo through the trees. The force pushes only for a few seconds as its energy quickly depletes and bounces off our impressive defense.
"Optics green." I hear Nathan shout from the scope of Frost's sniper rifle.
"Round ready! Noise level at fourteen percent!" Alex's voice was next to sound
N."Feedback in four seconds."
A."Three!"
N."Two."
A."One!"
N."Ready to fire boss!"
Hearing the final checks are finished me and Sal quickly jump out of the way, staying on guard. "Death Caliber!" Frost's voice is cold and aggressive. He then promptly pulled the trigger on his rifle. The round fired with explosive force as all the spikes shattered simultaneously. The bullet left a green and black energy trail. The shot quickly hit its target promptly followed by a loud scream in agony. The witch quickly fell to the ground as her body slammed into the dirt.
Frost deactivated his soul resonance, transforming his sniper rifle back into his assault rifle and grenade launcher. "You okay Frost?" Sal's places his right hand on Frost's left shoulder as he checked on the weary captain.
"Yeah. I'm good." Frost's speak was split by his panting. "Just a little tapped out."
Sal quickly helps Frost to his feet while I keeps my eyes fixed on where the witch once stood. "Careful, I don't think she is dead." I state cold and soft as I begin to walk towards her. My stride is heavy as my boots pound the dirt. I tilt my sword slightly so the tip of the blade drags along the floor. My monstrous red eyes are hidden by my hair while I look down at her. I stopped temporarily, much to her surprise and she continued to struggle in her attempt to crawl away from me. "I'm sorry, but you were sent by her. So I cannot allow you to leave." My cold tone sparked a flicker a fear as I resumed my slow advance. Suddenly she burst into a blue inferno. Shrieks of agony echoed through the bloodstained trees. As quickly as it happened it was over as the screams came to a fading halt while she turned to dust. Not even her soul was left behind. I quickly turn round to the group with a smile on my face. "Well I guess that went up in smoke!" My terrible pun seemed to have some comical weight as Alex began laughing to hard she reverted into human form by accident and fell to the floor in a heap. Sal quickly facepalms as Frost and Nathan chuckle between themselves. "So is that it? Or is there more to do?" I ask anxious to get back to any possible work.
"Just gotta patrol the rest of the area and make sure its all clear. The we can head back to camp for some grub." Frost eagerly informed us and Alex eventually regained her composure and weapon form. "So let's roll out an get this done." Frost's commands were eager and warm filling my spirits with cheer as we continue our patrol of the forest. As we all pass the pile of ashes I see Sal stop and pick something up, but think nothing of it when he places it in his pocket and swiftly catches up.
A few hours went by and we found nothing. All the bushes, trees and shrubbery were REALLY starting to look the same. however, just as we were about to pack up our patrol and head for camp, we found a corpse. It was sprawled out on a dirt path about ten meters to our right. We begin to move towards the corpse carefully, constantly checking for potential threats. Sal knelt by her and examined her closely, meanwhile everyone assumed covering positions while Sal worked. "Corpse is obviously female, five foot two inches give or take. No sign of struggle or combat, wait scratch that, she was bound recently. The marks are still on her wrists." Sal's in depth explanation got me thinking.
"Mind if I take a quick look?" My question earns a inquisitive look from Frost. Sal stepped aside while I examined the woman. "She was once human." My comment is shrugged off. "However," The start of my second statement grabs their full attention once more. "Someone tried to turn her into a witch." My conclusion earns a look of concern from my team. "I believe there is a lab near by but I don't know where exactly it is." There is a hint of disappointment at my lack of knowledge. I crouch next to the corpse's torso, reaching for a pair of dog tags. "Witch Clone Project. NO.44." A sudden flash cut through my subconscious as a painful flashback pierced a small amount of the fog over my memories. A black and white, hazy image played in my mind of me finding a file in a desk called "Witch Clone Project." In a large bold stencil font and beneath it was "Tests And Results." In a smaller size with the same font. The whole ordeal earns a visible wince and a faint grunt as I clutch my forehead. Recovering quickly, I quickly scan the path and find her tracks. "She must have escaped a lab near-by. If we follow her tracks, I doubt we will be searching long." Alex quickly switches to her grenade launcher form and attaches herself to Nathan.
"We better start moving." Frost quickly sets the pace at a steady jog. The road was a thin path, so we were stuck in single file. About two hundred meters down the path, a large structure became visible. It was discretely hidden in a thick cluster of trees. Only a fraction of the roof was visible, but it was clear that we found what we were looking for. Continuing to follow the path, we constantly scan for hostiles.
We quickly find the door, it was a tall iron door and took some effort for Sal to pick the lock. I look inquisitively upon his shady actions. "What? I make locks, meaning I know how to pick them." A faint click emanates from the lock. "See?" His tone is mildly sarcastic for comical effect. Sal stands and puts his tools away in a stainless steel box that clips to his belt. He then uses the door as cover while he slowly opens it as we stack up around the door. I'm behind Sal on the right and just past the door from on the other side is Frost. Behind him Is Alex, equipping her shotgun with a suppressor. Alex's suppressor is a rather large cylinder shape roughly five inches long and two inches wide. As she swiftly attaches her stealthy accessory, Nathan reverts to human form and appears behind me. He quickly pulls out a USP 45., suppressor already attached, and pulls the slide. Nathan quickly pulls out a combat knife from a holster on the back of his belt. Sal quickly pulls out one of his short swords and grips it back hand while Frost pulls out two M9's with suppressors attached. I sheath my Witchblade and pull out my two Ninjoto and give Frost a quick nod.
Sal fully opens the door and slowly walks inside, covered by Frost who quickly aims through the door "Clear." Frost holds his volume at a whisper but is still easily heard as we follow him and Sal inside. We proceed down the corridor before us. There are three doors, two on the left and one on the right with a left turn at the end. We form into two lines with Frost between them in front. Alex and I are on the left and Sal is on the right with Nathan. "Door left." As Frost commands, everyone stacks up at the door ready for Alex to open it.
"Clear." We start moving as Alex whispers her response, we quickly begin moving inside and sweeping the room. Everyone holster and sheath our weapons while Nathan quickly dives into a computer, searching for anything useful. Me and Alex team up searching in the two filing cabinets left of the door starting from the bottom and working our way up. Sal sifts through the paper work in the desk the computer is on while Frost scans the bookcase.
"I got a map and sensitive documents, beginning download." Nathan quickly pulls out a small, tablet like device from his backpack and places it next to the computer. He taps out a few commands into the tablet and helps Sal search the desk. 'I literally only just noticed Nathan was wearing a backpack.' My thoughts cause me to internally face-palm and return to the files I'm going though. A lot of these files are just research different elements but eventually found and interesting file. It was titled "Crystallizing Wavelengths". I flip open the file to be met with three pictures. The first is a large crystal that glowed a radiant sky blue from its core. The second picture is one of the woman we found dead, presumably before she died. The third picture is a print out of two wavelengths. The one on the top was marked "Before." This wavelength was smooth and undulated evenly between five and minus five thousand, just below the average for a normal human. The second was marked "After." This wavelength was chaotic and spiked randomly, some reaching as high as eighty-five thousand. I was unsure of the significance of the numbers on the second wavelength. So I just paced it on top of the three files that Alex picked out of the second cabinet and already started her second draw. I busy myself with more files, resolved to catch up, the remaining five files are all blank and empty. I quickly move onto the next draw. I gently pull the handle to hear a faint metallic thud from the lock. I draw one of my Ninjoto and slide it carefully into the draw. I quickly find the lock and move to slowly tug. A hand suddenly grips mine, forcing me to stop and jump slightly. I turn and see Alex look into my eyes with a stern gaze. She quickly shakes her head then looks up. I follow her gaze to find a set of keys hanging from the notice board above the cabinets. I look back to her with a nervous smile and thanks her quietly. Alex returns with a smirk that kinda says "Don't worry Killer you'll get there." I stand up and grab the key. I spot an access card on top of the cabinet and grab that too. I place it in my pocket with my left hand while i slide the key into the lock on the cabinet with my right hand. Twisting left, I feel the lock turn and a faint click comes from the lock. I carefully open to draw to see two folders. The one in front was titled, "The Witch Clone Project" I quickly pull it out and place it on the pile without checking it first. The second file was titled, "Kataklysmide." Inside I found another picture of the same crystal, behind which was a detailed report of the crystal Including its molecular structure, how to make it and more complicated science-y stuff. I quickly close it and place it with the other interesting files. I closed the second draw and open the top and final draw. The first file was another file about the Witch clone project, however the title was obscured by a large red "FAILED" stamp. upon further inspection, I see that they are all files on failed experiments. I grab a group of them and close the draw. Frost grabs two file holders from the bookshelf which happened to be empty and helps me place all the files in the boxy containers.
Alex closes her final draw and proceeds to check on the wireless download. "Thirty seconds guys." We all finish up our individual tasks while Alex watched the door.
A faint 'Ding' resonated from the tablet as the last drawn is shut. Nathan quickly placed the tablet in his backpack and pulled up the map of the lab. Alright the next room is the Locker room, followed by the test room and then a 'Containment Room'. The test room has a sealed supply room attached to the far right corner."
"I found a spare access card." I state pulling it out of me pocket and showing Nathan.
"That should get us in. Let's go check it out." Frost's command is headed well as we exit the room and fall in. Frost once again leading our tight formation. "Door right." Quickly stopping again, Nathan opens the door.
"Clear." We don't bother sweeping the locker room and press on for the test room.
"Door left."
"Clear." We again sweep the room after Alex's response. The rooms purpose was made very clear upon entering. There was a large white work-top that extended all the way round the room (following the walls) and a table sized white work top in the center of the room. On the far left of the work top was a built in gas tap with two nozzles. In the middle rested a wooden test tube holder, holding three veils of black blood. Next to which was a low tripod with a blue crystal formation resting on top. Lastly, at the edge of the work-top was an open folder.
"I got the folder." Nathan quickly rushed to the folder and pulled out a small micro-camera from his right trouser pocket. I quickly grab the three veils and hand them to Frost. He then places them in the tactical hardcase on his belt. Alex, being the only one wearing gloves, lightly touches the crystal. Determining its safe to hold, she quickly grabs it and places it in a large pocket just above her left knee. We stack up on the supply room door. The electronic lock on the door had a "0-9" keypad on it with a swiping card scanner. At the top of the lock was a digital display, which said "LOCKED", and two lights side by side. The one on the left was red and one, whereas the one on the left was green and off. I swipe the card through the electronic lock and the red light turns green. The digital display then said "OPEN" as a faint click sounded from the door.
Frost stepped in front of the closed door. As he readied his rifle I grabbed the handle. He gave me a quick nod and i pressed the door handle. I pushed the door open and Frost quickly stepped in. "Clear." Frost held the door open with his ankle while he scanned the room. I quickly work in and grab the door, holding it open so everyone can enter. Once everyone is in, i slowly close the door. The left wall was hidden by a large skeletal metal shelving unit that held boxes full of supplies. Another shelving unit stood in the center of the room which extended to the back wall. The last shelving unit covered most of the right wall. The last pat of the back wall was blocked by a fridge-freezer. In the front of the wall was a one way mirror that stretched most of the way across. Beyond the mirror was the containment room, but the lights were off so we couldn't see anything. The part of the wall on the right side that wasn't hidden was taken up by a computer on a desk with a wheeled chair in front of it. The horse-shoe shaped path was wide enough for two people to easily walk side by side. The supply room had what you would expect of a lab's supply room, Bunsen burners, flasks, beakers, test tubes, chemicals and elements etc.
Nathan again jumped on the computer and discovered that it was connected to a CD recorder. We all quickly busied ourselves looking for anything interesting while Alex guarded the door. "Boss, it looks like this computer manages the security and inventory for the lab."
"Make sure you pull the tapes." Frost was buried in the fridge inspecting the chemicals within.
"Got it boss." Nathan quickly ejects the disc and snaps it without hesitation. "Searching for back-ups." Nathan refocuses on the computer while me, Sal and Frost finish up our sweep and join Alex near the door. "Done." Nathan turns the monitor off and stands up to join the squad. I once again step forward to open the door. Alex is the first through the door, followed by Frost, Nathan, Sal and then me. I carefully shut the door behind me as the group moves forward to the door and waits for me. Back in position, we exit the room, get in formation and move up. We line up at the corner, Alex takes point, with Frost behind her. Nathan is next in line checking his mag while me and Sal stand ready. Frost starts a countdown silently with his fingers. 3... 2... 1... Frost quickly clenches his fist as the sign to go. Alex quickly rounds the corner crouched while Frost follows to stand behind her. Frost points two fingers forward and leads the way while we follow. When I round the corner, I'm greeted by a large stainless steel blast door with written defense enchantments on the door. The door itself is roughly four meters wide and three meters tall and was locked by a key code number pad lock.
"What's the writing for?" Alex's question isn't a stupid one, there aren't many people, besides witches, who can read enchantments and even less who can figure out the value them.
I begin to carefully examine each enchantment. "The're defense enchantments. Each character you see translates into a multiplier value."
"Not a bad way to defend a fort. So how much we talkin' here Killer?" Alex begins to look closely at the door. "I'd say you would need roughly twenty kilos of C4 and it should bust right open."
"Well let's see," my voice tones down to a loud whisper as I do the math. "There are five enchantments all equal to two so you times by ten. That's two hundred kilo's you'll need to crack those enchantments."
Alex seemed slightly gobsmacked at the prospect of a small spell having such an effect. "Wow, that's a lot of plastic."
"So busting it open isn't an option. Nathan, start on the lock. Sal, Kairon, watch the door. Alex and I will watch our six." Frost's commands snapped me and Alex out of our daze and we quickly position ourselves to fit our leaders parameters. I crouch next to Nathan on the left side of the door while Sal crouches on the right.
"I can't open it without sounding an alarm but I can unlock the motor so we can lift it." Nathan's propitiation earn a worrying look from Alex.
"You can't just bypass it bro?" I guess Alex was thinking the same thing I was. 'How the fuck do we lift a blast door!?"
"Sal and Kairon could probably bench a ton between them, I'm sure we will manage. Cut the lock, Nath." Frost holstered his pistol, sheathed his knife, and walked towards the door. A loud dull 'clunk' sounded in the wall. We all lined up ready for the challenge. I was on the far left with Frost next to me. When he stood next to me he place his hand on my shoulder with a nod. That was all I needed. Just Knowing he believes in his team, and me. In the middle is Nathan shaking his body after a stretch. Next to him was Alex and then Sal on the far right. We stood roughly two inches apart from each other. "Ready guys? Resonance Link." I give Frost a look of worry which he spots clear as day. "Don't worry K. Your first." He places his hand on my shoulder again and searches for my wavelength. I begin to feel Frost's wavelength drop to try and meet mine. I quickly place my hand on his shoulder and try to meet him half way.
"Let me help you there, I don't think you will get it that low." I begin raising my frequency to finally match his. Two translucent white energy spheres appear around me and Frost, linked by a path of energy the same colour as the sphere. Me and frost release each others shoulders as Nathan links onto the resonance link. I feel My power combining with Frost's and Nathan's, worrying in wonder as my power level slowly rises. 'I must stay in control. No.' My eyes close as I focus on the center of my power. 'I WILL stay in control!" Having found the center of my soul I slowly open my eyes to focus on the door. Alex was next to connect and with her energies arrival, came another power boost. I was already way beyond anything I could manage before and I was barely feeling anything from my black blood. Sal's link was finally made and the whole team was connected. We all crouched and gripped the bottom of the door.
"Okay guys three, two, one, lift." On frost's command, we all heaved to mass of steel. Opting for a quickly way in, we lift straight up and quickly step in. The doors automatic brakes quickly stopped the door roughly a foot from the floor to prevent damage. Momentum successfully killed, the doors brakes slowly release, easing the heavy steel down. The light from the other side quickly shrinking. "Nathan, lights." Frost and Alex flick on the torches on their guns. Nathan pulls out a small pocket torch and scans for a computer. He quickly spots a white control desk with a clear solid panel attached to the top that stretches across the meter long unit. Nathan proceeds to do what he does best and make the super computer his bitch. Nathan, quite literally, wrote the manual on electronic warfare, so turning on the lights to a creepy room wasn't much of a problem.
"Got it." The lights flickered into life right on cue, relieving the containment room. There were three lines of grey tinted poly carbonate tubes. Said tubes had a large white base with a control panel on combined with a green light above the panel and a five inch display. The tubes seem to extend through the base and had a diameter of one meter.
"Nathan, what am I looking at?" Frost slowly stepped towards the first tube in the center and examined the display. "Because whatever they are they have an adjustable environment for what's inside."
Nathan quickly dives into the computer. "Not sure boss I was hoping you could tell me." I stare at the tube as the tint quickly fades to reveal a naked women, suspended in a turquoise liquid of some kind. Her body was curled loosely in a ball with a black tube that lead into her mouth.
"She's a clone." My answer earns a look of shock from my team.
"So, someone is making witches?" Sal's voice came through the confusion clear as day.
"Worse. An army." I feel my face pale at the thought of a witch army laying waste to everything and everyone in their path.
"Nathan pull any data you can. Then pull the plug on the clones." Frost's tone saddens as he finishes his commands. A guilt hung over him as he ordered to end life before it had a chance to grow.
"Frost shake it off. If Medusa got her hands on this kind of technology, she'd lay waste to everything and everyone. It might not feel it but its for the best. Living under Medusa in a life you don't understand is probably the worst fate they could suffer. I know all too well." My words seem to set my leader's mind at ease.
"Your right thanks, Kairon." Frost gives me a nod and joins Nathan at the control desk. "You got anything?"
"Yeah, got some results from experiments on creating the clones and experiments to them." Nathan quickly slides his tablet into his bag and pressed a red button on the touch screen panel. As Nathan leaves the computer, the tint returns to the first tube and the light turns red. Shortly after, each light turned red one by one until no green remained.
"Right let's get.."
'Clunk.' Frost was interrupted by the motor re-locking. "Sorry forgot to mention I fixed the door." Nathan's nervous laugh made Frost shake his head.
"Right, let's get going." We go into formation as the door open without any problems. As we stepped out, the lights in the containment room automatically switched off and we hurried for the exit.
Authors note: im using the numbers for wavelenths like how the "Power Levels" work in Dragon Ball just to make it easier to write.
