**POV Frost**

Upon arriving at the academy stairs, we are greeted by Crona. "Hey Frost. Blackstar is at the boot camp. I'm heading there myself so we can go together." Her tone was bright but hiding something.

"Sure c'mon guys. Hand this report in and then we can hit the showers. Urah?"

Kairon, Sal, Nathan and Alex Scream "Urah!" While Hannah just looked confused.

"Urah?" Hannah's timid voice came from the back of the team.

"Awesome, let's roll, double time." I set the pace of the steady jog with Crona in tow. I hear Kairon and Hannah whispering in the back. "Something on your mind Kairon?" My question is put across seriously to get a straight forward answer.

"No sir, I was just curious about the boot camp cause I haven't herd of it before." Kairon was nervous about his answer.

"It's an extreme combat training facility that Blackstar designed and built with Stein and Lord Death. We use it to test for two star meisters to become three star meisters." Kairon's curiosity seems to be quelled and replaced by amazement when the boot camp comes into view. 'That's how I looked the first time as well.' Five by two football pitches worth of the most gruesome and brutal circuit training, complete with a combat training arena, a simulation gauntlet armed to the teeth with assorted traps and hazards.

Blackstar steps out of the gate in front of us and turns to us, looking pretty pissed. "Your late. The other students have already started without you." The simple brutality of his voice when he is in the boot camp is enough to break your average soldier down to a pixie and build them harder then tanks. His training methods have earned him the title 'Death Star', given to him from the students he trained. As I pass him the first report, he quickly scans the contents "A five witch strike force and Medusa showing up out of the blue. Been through a lot for just one recon mission."

"Yes sir. Sorry we're late, we found a lab near there and thought it worth investigating. I have a separate report here." I quickly pass him the second report.

"Thanks Frost. Now you and your team must complete six weeks of boot camp training with the rest of the grunts, by myself and Crona. Stein will be taking over for the last day. I hope your ready." His words came with a demonic grin. "I have to go drop these off to Lord Death so Crona, how about you help them settle in?"

"It would be my pleasure." Crona's Mad smile and wicked voice was added to the mix only increasing the pressure. The whole situation happened so fast we barely knew what was coming. "Come on then! Find your bunks and be ready in fifteen minutes!" Crona's shout made us jump into action and rush for the bunk house about a hundred meters away.

Ten minuets later.

"Alright, welcome to the gauntlet. You will all be making the run together so, Alex and Nathan switch to weapon forms." Alex and Nathan quickly combine into my assault rifle and attaches themselves to my green Assault vest. The gauntlet was basically a four hundred meter half-pipe made to blend into the scenery. "The gauntlet will test your speed, reaction time and endurance. You may use any tactic you wish but at no point can you travel back track. The Gauntlet is split up into four stages, each stage being one hundred meters long and more challenging as you advance. You have a time limit of three minuets to cover five hundred meters, in which you will be faced with walls, hazards and Digi'structed Kishin, Witches and Golems at randomized points. If a wall trips you up, you fall into a hazard, an attack makes direct contact with your body, fly over or through the hologram roof at any point and you will fail. The only way to pass and move on the the next part of training is to get to the end of the gauntlet, and all of you must finish. The timer will begin the moment you cross the line." Crona's words are clear as the hologram roof appeared level to the top of the gauntlet and looked like a bright orange, almost transparent, circuit board. Crona makes her way to the watchtower on our right. Opting not to use the elevator, she instead jumps up the elevator shaft and over the safety fence. I see her step into a clear pod with a seat inside. The pod was inside a clear poly carbonate tube which first lined up to the center of the gauntlet and then extended to the end, connected to the other watchtower in a similar fashion on the left side.

'Five meters is all I've got to play with? Challenge accepted!' Sal begins meditating to center his energy as I extend my right arm out away from me and parallel to the start line, holding my palm flat and facing the ground. "Come forth, Loki!" The skateboard erupted into existence and dropped on the floor next to me. Its much like my father's Beelzebub, but mine changes colours to adapt to the camouflage I'm wearing. So the grip tape has a sprayed woodland camo with matte black axles, dark green wheels and a green deck with a black Shinigami mask complete with a this whit outline around the skull. I perform a quick Ollie to get airborne while the wheels built in jets hold me about a meter from the ground. Kairon Readies his Witchblade and his scythe. The Witchblade sat in its sheath while his scythe rested on his back, bound to him by a chain. "Loadout switch! Recon!" My weapon partners respond, first by glowing green and then reforming into Desert Eagles resting in my holsters on the back of my belt. My D'Eagles are gun metal grey with black palm grip and a white Shinigami mask on both sides of the slide, just above the safety switch on each gun. My equipment and Armour changes too. Rather than my green Assault vest, I'm now wearing a lightweight ballistic vest equipped with a combat belt. on which sat three flash bangs and a hardcase. I grab my Magnums, switch the safety off as Hannah creates a pair of void wings which glowed a glorious shade of violet.

Sal pulls himself out of his meditation as Hannah gently lifts off the ground as she snaps her fingers. Her hands ignite with translucent purple fire as Sal summons his Angel Slayer. With my team standing ready, I look ahead of me to see the end five hundred meters away. "Okay, 3... 2... 1... GO!. We quickly accelerate to a moderate speed. Hannah flies with a four meter altitude. I'm at two meters with Kairon and Sal at ground level. Our first wall was easy. A low metal barrier shot out of the ground to about two meters tall. Kairon jumps to easily clear the obstruction as I steadily raise the pitch of the board, clearing it by two or three inches. Hannah clears the wall with no problem at her altitude while Sal however, pulls the Haft out of his axe blade. He then wears it like a shield as the metal spike extends a few inches. A spear head the rapidly extends from the top of the haft, becoming a spear. As this is happening he winds up his left arm and disembowels the wall with his deadly left cross. The single punched split the wall in two and earned an look of awe at Sal's brute force. Next, a Kishin quickly spawned and jumped towards me. The frontal assault was met with a ball of void fire. The Kishin instantly shattered into glowing green shards as the fire detonated on impact. Meanwhile, Sal had been ambushed by three Kishin. They were quickly dealt with as Sal punched through the one in the center. Kairon summoned a second Witchblade and decapitated both the remaining Kishin. Kairon's boots thundered against the solid floor as a hazard appeared ahead of us. A flamethrower in the center. The fire was a meter wide and five meters tall. Sal rushed the left side as Kairon took the right. Both routes had several Kishin which were all dealt with easily. Me and Hannah took the same pattern, me on the left and Hannah on the right. I was met with broom riding witches who began to rain destruction down on me and Sal. I swerve and weave between the spells as I line up my shots. 'First.' em*BANG!*/em 'That's you. em*BANG!*/em 'And you. Now for the last two.' The two remaining witches had begun a coordinated strike pattern. I swerve left and teleport between them. They stare in awe as I quickly line up my shots and execute them simultaneously. They quickly shatter into energy shards as my board catches up to me, landing perfectly in the center of the board. Another metal barrier covering the top three meters of the half pipe extends from right to left. Caught off guard, me and Hannah quickly dropped to a meter from the floor. Another barrier appears, a meter wide and rising quickly to hit the roof. We quickly swing left, using the curve of the half-pipe to guide us while Kairon and Sal went right. A hoard of five Kishin were running in the center and on the left side. Quickly turning right, I took the two furthest away while Hannah wrecked the three closest to us. I rush through the drifting shards to see two barriers twenty meters ahead of us. One came from the floor and ascended slowly to meet the one that came from the roof which descended, closing like a blast door. "Come on we can make it!" My shout rallies my team as we quicken our pace.

Kairon dispels his second blade, sheaths the first one and pulls out his scythe. He brought his scythe blade behind Sal but giving him plenty of leg room. "Need a lift?" Sal quickly jumped onto the scythe blade. Kairon swung the scythe with gusto, launching the spartan through the gap with me and Hannah. Kairon briskly dives through the diminishing gap as a holographic sign appeared saying "Stage 1: Complete", "That's one hundred meters down, we got this!" Kairon cheered from the back, announcing that he is still in the fight. Three Kishin spawned in front of a trap door. I shot the one on the right between the eyes. Sal threw his spear at the one on the left, piercing its shoulder. Sal quickly summoned his spear as the corpse fell into the pit. The last one got struck by a bolt of void lightning, shaking in torturous agony eventually exploding into shards. I pressed on to fly over the door. As I approach, I hear the release of pressurized gas from the trap door. I swerve right as Hannah flies left, also hearing an igniter deep in the pit. A jet of fire erupted out of the trap door. The inferno licked at Loki's deck and charred the rear left corner. 'That was close, another like that and I'll be running.'

Refocusing on what lies before us, I see the start of what appears to be a Kishin infested slalom. "Boss? You sure we got this?" Alex is worried, to be honest I can't blame her. The gap between the barrier and the wall is no bigger than a meter.

As I line up to start the slalom, I see the space between each barrier is no longer than five meters. "Don't sweat it. It's my job to worry about what we are facing, just keep your resonance up. We got this." My words reassure my teammate as her resonance rate increases to match Nathan's. As we enter, two Kishin ran in through the gap and one jumped me as we came in. I lined my sites up with its left eye and pulled the trigger. The bullet punched through each side of the skull, eliminating the flying Kishin's momentum. As the corpse slams into the floor, the bullet hits the Kishin furthest away between the eyes. They simultaneously shattered into pale green shards and gently floated with the breeze. I quickly pull a hard left, slowly lowering my altitude. I level out inches from the floor, my squad forming up behind me. A Kishin appears on the wall and dives straight for me. Kairon and Sal jump in front of me, Kairon already switching to his Witchblade. Their blades collided with the Kishin, Kairon's hit just above waist level while Sal's decapitated the monster simultaneously. The broken flesh rapidly broke into the green shards, spreading as the whole body change form.

"We quickly swerve right through the considerably smaller gap. Met with a witch finishing an attack spell, we scattered as we closed in. She hovered about a meter from the ground with her palms facing towards Hannah. Her spell took the shape of a large translucent pumpkin with an angry face carved out of it roughly thirty centimeters in diameter. "Pumpkin Bomb!" The spell raced towards her. Quickly pulling up, she turned to face her attacker. Forming a sword out of her fire, she tore a void portal open and flew through it. Hannah raced through a portal just left of the witch, the blade slicing her in two. Her body shatters into energy shards which were pulled along Hannah's path by her velocity. She reduced her speed to take the corner. A three meter Golem charged through the walls, the stone body tear through them like paper. We rushed through the easy exit.

Roughly five meters ahead of us I see another three meter Golem. "WITCH HUNTER!" Kairon's roar echoed from the intensity as his scythe blade exploded into a purple energy blade. The jagged edges were enlarged to brutal sizes. Each spike could easily hold a trophy. A worry crept through my mind while everything seemed to slow down for an instant. 'Is this Kairon's power? Or someone else?' His fierce scream snapped me back to reality as Kairon began his deadly swing. The blade carved a huge line in the Gauntlet's floor as it then carved through the Golem in front of him. The force of the attack threw the Goliath off its feet. As the head of the beast touched the canopy, its whole body instantly explodes into energy shards as Kairon's scythe returns to normal.

"Behind the "Shard'splotion", an army of Kishin came charging out of two walls with a one meter gap between them in the center. This stretches on for about ten meters with anew pair of walls every meter. "Spearhead formation!" My team regrouped on my command. Sal quickly lead from the center at the sound of my command. Kairon took the left side while Hannah first observed, then took her place on the left side as I headed up the rear. I crouch to give myself a smaller profile and extend my arms out. I then close my eyes to enhance my soul perception, leaving the small army in front of us to my team mates while I cover our flanks. There is at least two Kishin on either side in the gaps between the walls. I pinpoint my targets as they come into range. 'Three left two right. Four right three left. Two either side. Three either side. Two right three left. Three right four left. Four right three left. Three right four left. Three either side. Four either side.' An army of shells and energy shards chased us out of the last wall as I open my eyes. Four high-level witches greeted us on the way out. Two were flying at ground level with enchanted wings and weapons while the other two charged projectile spells from a higher vantage point. The two melee witches were clearly targeting Kairon and Sal while the casters aimed two wreck their air support. Kairon and Sal seemed to exploit weaknesses as they launched themselves towards the casters, leaving the ground targets for me and Hannah. As all four witches are caught off guard and forced to switch targets - a brilliant strategy. Our meat shields cut through the casters with ease as we distracted the unobservant strikers. Kairon and Sal's boots thundered as they hit the ground running. Kairon began swinging his scythe to put it away but not before lightly colliding with Sal's shield which he raised into the path of the blade. This potentially brutal form of high-five earned a look of confusion from Hannah. 'Only fifty meters to the next zone.'

"HEAD'S UP BOSS!"

Kairon's warning was loud but I was already all over it. A five meter Golem rushed us with a riot shield made out of a castle wall following another army of Kishin. "I see it. Assault!" Having Sal me and Hannah took point while Kairon pulled back as my two pistols combined into my M27 Grenadier. Hannah cast a spell on my weapon partners and I. Our resonance temporarily enhanced, I take aim as Hannah falls back to prepare her bow with Kairon. I pull the trigger on my grenade launcher. Almost immediately: the flash blinded me, the sound almost defend me and the recoil almost dislocated my shoulder. The usual forty millimeter dark green energy ball was replaced but a eighty millimeter purple cannon ball. My sight returned while black lightning jumped out from the orb as far as it could forming a brutal web of death, annihilating everything in its path. The cannon ball then found its target. The detonation cracked the shield and even took a corner off, exposing a furiously glowing red eye. "Sal, Break it! Hannah, Kill its momentum!"

"Roger!" My commands are heeded with a simultaneous response and then carried out. Sal's Battleaxe ignites in a blue inferno as he throws his weapon at his target. The blade lodges itself in one of the cracks I made. the moment Sal snaps his fingers the weapon explodes with a blue mushroom cloud, shattering the almost unbreakable wall. The shape is abruptly obscured as the Golem plows through the smoke. Hannah immediately draws three arrows and released them together. The Titan roared in anger as the arrows shattered and formed a wall in front of it. It broke through the wall but not before giving it a huge shock, staggering the tall form.

"Kairon, Fini!.."

"SOUL!" Kairon cut me off, jumping to line up his strike. Clenching his right fist, red sparks began jumping from the wound arm. "FORCE!" Kairon's roar shook the gauntlet heck maybe even the whole city. Everything just stopped on impact for a moment that felt like eternity. A horrifying crunch of breaking bones echoed through me, sending shivers through my entire being and time racing back normal. The Golem was launched through the large gap now only thirty meters away. The gargantuan pile of rolling stone then exploded into shards.

I feel the enhancement start to ware off as I watch Kairon land and sloppily roll on his left shoulder. "Medic!" Kairon slowly regains his momentum still remaining slow enough to come within healing range.

"Here!" Hannah swings her left arm towards Kairon while pointing her index and middle fingers. A small white orb jumped from her fingers, leaving a light trail in the air as it sped towards Kairon.

When it touched him, Kairon was enveloped in a white light. The completely broken limb was then slowly mended as the light began focusing on the limp arm. "Thanks!" Kairon shouted across thankfully as his finished healing.

Another holographic sign appeared in front of us. "Stage 2: Complete"

""Keep up the pressure, we're half way there!" Sal was next to cheer us on as Kairon unsheathed his scythe. We are already met with fierce opposition. A horde of Kishin rushed us while a strike force of witches prepared their spells. Kairon and Sal took point and prepared for a bloody struggle. The large two meter spikes the spurted out of the ground at random points and positions made dodging almost impossible. Me and Hannah began to focus our effort on eliminating the overwhelming casting force. One by one they fell as the the horde was being torn to ribbons.

"INCOMING!" A large fireball raced towards us. We quickly scatter to avoid the explosion. I chose to pull up and lay some rounds into our attackers. Nathan's recoil hits me in the shoulder as the short bursts try to pull my shots off target, with no success. Hannah then joining my aerial assault, firing off one arrow at a time to pick off her targets. I saw Kairon stumble and then quickly regain balance, quickly countering a nearby Kishin cleaving it clean in half. With a thunderous roar, he then tore through at least ten enemies in one swing to regroup with Sal. Kairon switches to his Witchblade while summoning a second blade and sheath on his right side as I refocus on the witches. As I open fire I see a two meter Golem appear behind the large force. "Golem ahead! Hannah focus fire!"

"Roger!" Hannah began creating a fireball in her right hand by her side while she holds her wrist with her left hand. When I'm done with the witches, I lined up another shot from the grenade launcher and check if Hannah is ready. Giving me a nod, she thrusts her arm forward and releases her attack as I pull the trigger. Our simultaneous offensive hits its mark, dead center of the chest knocking the heavy form from its feet.

The Kishin were almost finished with but just as Kairon swings both blades down on his last target, the beast blocks and shatters Kairon's weapons. Kairon darted to the right, just barely rolling out of the way of Sal's last attack, a crushing vertical strike, turning the potential threat into a small pile of energy shards. "You okay bro!?" Sal seemed concerned as Kairon shook his head back in the game.

"I'm fine!" Mild annoyance and aggression hung in his voice as he pulled out his scythe once more. "Don't worry about me, it'll get ya killed!" A few more Kishin spawned in front of them, only to be scattered like paper Shuriken in a raging storm.

'Mental note: check up on him during down time.' Regrouping we ready to cover the second half of the gauntlet. Another wall came down, covering the entire top half of the Gauntlet. The restricted air space was coupled with a group of Kishin and melee witches spread out along the remaining fifty meters. "Spearhead!" Kairon takes the left, Sal takes the middle while Hannah dispels her wings and takes the right. She then fires of another fireball to buy time while she creates her void fire sword. I once more head up the rear, hovering just high enough for me to shoot over my team. I open fire, working to try and thin them out to make it easier on my team. The enemies before us weren't anything too difficult, but the fatigue started to settle in. Little by little my shot would be slightly more off target, I could feel my wavelength getting weaker. Hannah and Sal seemed to be having the same issue. I presume that spells work the same way a Meisters abilities do. Sal, due to his ability to gain strength while in combat, could probably flatten a town in one strike by now. However Sal's body started to fall behind. However Kairon seemed to thrive under the extreme conditions, but i know his struggle is not one of fatigue. 'just hold on K. We're almost there.' We rushed into the third section to see the holographic sign levitating in the previously obscured air space. Hannah suddenly gets creative. Using her sword and void magic, she reshapes it into an almost white oval. She then throws it out flat in front of her and rides it like a hover board, rejoining me in the low sky. By this time, two waves of enemies had spawned about twenty meters in front of us and were already closing us down while a third wave has just started to form. The first two waves consisted of Kishin and melee witches. Hannah and I rained hell while Sal and Kairon tore up the survivors. Things were going well but I knew that was all about to change. The third wave started to come in, now featuring casting fours and five had already started on their war path while number six had started to be created. Hannah and I focused the casters and were doing a pretty good job of it. A few Strikers got smart and jumped to engage us, but Kairon had his eyes open.

He jumped into their path and slashed both of them in two. "Witch Bomb!"

"Witch what?" My question was answered when Kairon's scythe blade burst into Witch Hunter mid fall. He brought the weapon over his head and slammed the blade into the ground. A massive energy explosion emitted from the impact, ending a considerable number of foes. However wave six had closed us down and had begun to slow us down. With a lack of Casters, Me and Hannah once again focused on the ground targets. As Sal and Kairon cut down the last of them, we are greeted with a new challenge. Wave seven consisted of two elite witches, one Caster and one Striker, as Golems closed in from the final and grim waves eight and nine. "Sal, on me! Hannah, Kai, partner up!" Sal and I take the Striker on the left wielding a Battleaxe made of bones while Hannah and Kairon took the Caster, wielding a staff of similar fashion. The Striker tried to make the first move and lunged straight for me. I quickly fire a few rounds into her chest to kill her momentum, allowing Sal to finish the now open target. The caster had fired a dark purple skull at Hannah. She intercepted it with a fireball of equal size while Kairon rushed in for the Kill. Kairon swung his scythe only to travel straight through his opponent. Hannah followed up the assault with an arrow through the head, eliminating the caster. The two, three meter Golems were almost on top of us. Thankfully they weren't armed with shields. a combination of my Grenade Launcher shell, Sal exploding Battleaxe, Hannah's Void bow and Kairon's brute force took down the collective force. Leaving only two, five meter Golems closing in. "Resonance Link!" I adopt a deep metal growl for my command. We simultaneously wavelengths to equal levels and connect our powers without missing a beat. Armed with enhanced power levels, we engage our targets in a similar assault. Kairon however, attempted to go for Witch Hunter. The result ended up being a Genie Hunter, the blade nearly taklng Kairon's arm off as the scythe blade was replaced with a black energy Battleaxe. After Hannah's arrow destroyed the head of the beast, Kairon brought the scythe down cutting it clean down the middle. The impact shook the Gauntlet as we rushed for the next stage. "Just one hundred to go what else can they throw at us!"

The seemingly endless brawl was finally over as we came to a grinding halt upon seeing a Digi'structed Medusa standing underneath the holographic sign, simply stating. "BOSS STAGE!" Kairon's rage seem to boil at this point. "You've been lucky so far kids. Now, come face a true force of nature." Medusa's arrogant voice made me shudder.

"Guys cover me."

"WITH PLEASURE!" Before I could react Kairon had slammed his scythe into her Vector Blade, leaving Hannah and Sal in hot pursuit.

"Boss, you sure? Kairon will get caught up in the blast." Kairon's assault began pushing the Grand Witch back while Alix questions me with concern.

"He'll make it. It will take more than us to kill that man." My words calm Alix as she begins to focus her wavelength. I begin unlocking my power restraints as my soul starts to expand. As one of the Lines of Sanzu connects, My M27 becomes a heavy, almost Light machine gun sized, variant armed with explosive rounds and a chainsaw bayonet. My armor started to get heavier as it began to equip itself with Grenades and Cryogenic charges. 'More, I need to go deeper.' As I finish my thoughts my second line connects and the Heavy M27 became an M60 E04 while on my back sat a stinger missile launcher. Feeling my power peak I close my eyes and raise my resonance level with my weapon partners. "Release ability restraints level three... Two... One..." As my countdown finished my weapon glowed an arctic white and recombined forming a large particle beam cannon that sat comfortably on my right shoulder. My tactical assault vest and protective pads had become arctic white plate armor, the new mass pulling the bored down an inch or two. As my weapon formed, the Lines on Sanzu we're all fully connected and my power level explodes to a familiar peak.

"Resonance stable, noise level at zero percent." Nathan's voice was calm and collected.

"Lightning Tundra Wavelength fully charged boss!" Alix's aggressive tone shout over the whine of the cannon charging.

"Recoil stabilizers engaged. Ion delivery system ready, feedback in four seconds!" Nathan's final checks were all clear as he too shouted.

"Three!"

"Two!"

"One!"

I slowly open my arctic blue eyes and use the targeting visor to lock onto Medusa. My harsh Metal growl returns as I recite the weapons name and ready my finger on the trigger. "ÜBER FROST SHOCK CANNON!" I pull the trigger and the recoil hits me like a freight train. A beam of snow white destructive force rushed out the barrel and towards brawling family. Hannah and Sal slow down as Kairon quickly dive rolls past Medusa's last attack and rushes to get out of the blast radius. The Beam collided with a horrified Medusa and exploded into a twenty meter mushroom cloud, shrouding the unsuspecting witch in polar annihilation. The shock wave shook the whole city as we nearly loose balance from the force. The connected line breaks, returning it and my weapon to their normal states. We race to catch up with Kairon to cross the finish together. Hannah make shift board slows to a halt same as mine while Sal and Kairon slide to reduce their speed. We begin congratulating each other on the crazy speed and mad skills we each displayed. We all brought our power levels down while my weapon partners revert to human form

Crona jumps down the elevator shaft of the observation tower and walks over to join us. "Not bad guys! You beat Spartoi's record by four seconds scoring two minutes and seven seconds. Alright grab a shower and some chow you have the rest of the day off, tomorrow we work on core strength so expect a LOT of circuit training." Nathan shivered and paled at the thought. I place my hand on his shoulder reassuringly as Crona walks off with our results.

"C'mon guys I'm starving! Screamed Kairon and he pushed the entire team towards the Mess Hall while we laughed at the Kairon's monster strength.

"Seriously Sal, I think he's out for your job." I state in a jocular tone earning a punch on my right arm and a pout. "Ahh. You dick!" I shout with a smile plastered over my face.

Later That Night

Kairon all but disappeared after lunch. I let everyone else enjoy their down time while I went off to search for our missing Demon Sword. I was on the way back to the Barracks from the Mess Hall and spy Kairon meditating on top of our bunk house. I quietly climb the ladder and sit beside him. "Hello Frost." Kairon's startled me. His tone seemed quite tranquil but cold.

"Hey bro. Was worried when you disappeared after we had food. You seemed off during the Gauntlet too. You feeling okay?" My tone switched from friendly to worried as I approached my question.

Kairon pulled himself out of his meditative state and pulled out a cigarette, offering me one as he placed the box back into his chest pocket. He snapped his right fingers and a small flame appeared over his thumb. When Kairon lights his smoke he offers to light mine. As we take our first drag, Kairon adopts a more casual position. He sat back and stared into the distant sky. "I feel myself slipping." Kairon paused, thinking of a way to explain. "Since my fight with Medusa, my demons have haunted me constantly. I feel them trying to take control, more and more each day. The scary thing is its starting to work." Kairon took a drag while I did the same waiting for him to finish. "I feel stronger then when I first came here, but Its slowly fading. I'm loosing my own power as I use the power of the Demon Sword." Kairon's confidence was covered by a shadow of helplessness. "The only difference between me and the Kishin I hunt is that I'm still sane, but now I'm starting to loose that." I saw a lonely tear streak down Kairon's right cheek.

"That's wrong and you know it." I'm blunt but try to be as reassuring as possible. "Kishin consume human souls and plunge themselves into an abyss of madness, becoming Kishin." I pause to take a drag. "You on the other hand, haven't eaten a single soul as far as I know. Maybe that has something to do with it?" I try and come up with an explanation rather than just tell him he's wrong.

"Maybe, I don't think I've ever had one." Kairon's memory seems to be coming back to him in fragments and with it, some more of his personality traits. He's always relaxed when it's just the two of us, but he becomes louder and more social in bigger groups. However, it seems to have brought some of his doubts and insecurities to the surface.

"Doesn't Mum still have that soul you reaped? We can go get it now if you like?" I check the time on my phone to see its only 7 pm. "We have plenty of time." I state getting up.

"Why not. I could do the the pick me up, but I don't want you to go out of your way." Kairon's stands up as we flick our cigarettes and walk towards the ladder.

"Its cool, I need some training cloths anyway." I state following him down.

As we walk towards the gate of the boot camp Kairon clasps his hands behind his head and yawned softly. "I think I'll wait till morning to eat it though, I could do with the sleep."

I then ended up yawning after him. "Yeah your right." We laughed heartily as we passed through the gate and turned right, heading for home.
