Week 2 day 3
**POV Hannah**
'I awoke from my slumber to see a familiar man meditating with determination, his shirtless muscles glistening in the low morning light. Something began stirring within me, a longing to connect my soul with what the fuck am I doing stop it STOP IT!' I lightly slap my face, shaking me out of my thoughts. I open my eyes again to see Kairon open his and look around for something. Getting of his bed, he grabs his mug and begins walking to the kitchen area of the bunk house. "Psst!" I quietly try and get his attention while grabbing my mug and holding it in Kairon's direction. He stops to look over and smiles as he walks over and gently takes the cup from my hands, crouching next to my bed.
"Morning, tea or coffee?" Kairon's compassionate voice is almost soothing enough to lull me back to sleep.
Shifting under my blanket fortress and pulling my arm back inside, I answer him. "Coffee, please." My answer is followed by a quiet yawn.
Kairon had the look of someone who saw the most precious thing in the world. "As you wish, M'lady" Hearing this made my heart skip a beat. As he began focusing on the drinks, I began to drag myself out of bed. It was a slow process, but the promise of coffee gave me the motivation I needed to soldier on. I hear Kairon stirring the drinks, grab his, leave something on the side, and then walk to the door drink in hand. He looks my way and smiles. "I'm gunna have a smoke, I've left you one by your drink if you want it." He opens the door and walks outside.
As the door closes I snap my fingers as a pale purple glow surrounds my nightie. I stand and think of my next outfit for a moment and snap my fingers again a purple circle forms on the floor beneath me and slowly ascends, replacing my clothes with it. First a pair of purple sneakers with white laces. Then, black tracksuit bottoms with two purple stripes down the outside of each leg. Lastly, a purple tie dye tank top. "Okay." I say to myself as I create a mirror and see how it looks. Satisfied, I re-tie my hair in my purple bobble, grab my drink and smoke from the kitchen and meet Kairon outside.
"Hey, you sleep okay?" Kairon's voice sounds out just next to me as I close the bunkhouse door.
"Yeah I slept pretty good, how about you?" I flash him a smile while I put the cigarette between my lips and began searching for a lighter.
Kairon, snaps his fingers and a flame appeared over his thumb. He lights his smoke and offers for me to use the flame. I light my own smoke while he answers. "Ya know, for the first time in, I don't even know how long, I did." A smile pulls at his lips as he snaps his fingers again to extinguish the flame. "Only for about five hours, but I can honestly say I've never felt better."
I lean on the wall next to him, taking a sip of my coffee. "Well good, i'm glad." Holy shit this coffee is divine!
"It's all thanks to you ya know." His response earns a confused look from me. "When you healed my soul I felt so at peace." A blush settled into my cheeks as he paused. "Last night I remembered something that would have been so painful it would have torn me to pieces. Thanks to you, I had the strength to hold it together and keep my humanity."
I snap out of my fluster and begin looking concerned. "Yeah? Mind if I ask what?" I didn't want to pry if he didn't want to talk but i'm curious.
"I had a sister." His soft voice saddened slightly, 'Past tense?' I think to myself. "I don't remember everything, but I had a dream about her last night. It was calming. We never fought and always had each others back. We were almost mirrored in wavelength and personality. No matter what, I could do anything if she was there. She wasn't as dark as I am, in that regard we were opposites. When Alix hugged me, I felt like i'd been hugged like that before. By someone important."
"What happened?" I see a black tear creep down his left cheek.
"Medusa. I don't remember how, but I know she murdered her." A sliver of rage creeps into his voice.
"Well, I understand why you hate witches so much." I stare sadly into my coffee.
"Yeah... But I don't hate all witches." I kept looking down at my coffee to hide my blush and surprise. "In fact, i'd like to say i've gotten fairly close to you over these past two weeks. A lot closer than I thought you would let me." My blush is all to obvious to hide as I formulate a response.
"What makes you say that?" I laugh out nervously, my brain going haywire.
"Not many people, witch or otherwise, just let demon's into their lives and start doing them favors." He gives me a soft nudge with his arm and a warm smile.
His explanation calms my nerves, but why am I nervous? "Well you saved my life, whether or not your a demon is irrelevant. I'm just doing what I can to return the favor." But I wish I could do more.
"That's fair, it's the sparing test today isn't it?" Kairon's question helps me finally tame my blushing so I can meet his gaze again.
"Yeah, it should be a good time. I'm looking forward to seeing what you can do." I answer with enthusiasm and a bright smile.
"Same here, though I hope I don't end up sparring against you." His response puzzled me.
"Why is that?" He takes another sip of coffee, seeming to think his words carefully.
"I feel like I would end up holding back, you'd get angry with me cause I wasn't giving it my all." His face expresses concern but I know he is hiding something.
"Well, you're right but why would you hold back?" He blushes slightly as he looks away.
"I care about you a lot." Kairon seemed uneasy, like he wasn't sure how to approach the problem. Your kidding right? This guy can face down death like it's nothing but he can't tell a girl he li... wait what did he just say? "Sorry, i'm kinda bad at this. I really like you and I wouldn't forgive myself if you came to harm by my hand. There is also the fact that i'd rather not endanger you by making you fight someone with a bad view of witches. I know you can take care of yourself but I..." I cup Kairon's cheek and gaze into his purple orbs. "Hannah.." He whispered softly as I closed my eyes and pulled him closer. I plant my soft lips onto his as we embraced. The moment seemed to last forever as time slowed around us. Everything else began to fade away as Kairon became to center of my universe. Nothing else mattered.
I slowly pulled back and opened my eyes, still holding him in my arms. "Same here, I couldn't ask for any more as long as you stayed by my side."
"Hannah, will you... Will you be my girl frie..." Just as Kairon was about to finish his sentence, the bunk house door flew open.
"Hey guys you need a refill of coffee or you good?" Frost pauses and analyses what he has walked into. "Am I interrupting something?"
"No, of course not captain. I'd love one, Kai?" I ask compassionately.
"Sure." He responded with a smile but I can tell he's annoyed.
I reach past him and grab his cup, leaning in close. "Yes, i'd love to be your girlfriend." I whisper softly into his ear. As I pull away I plant a soft kiss on his cheek. "You making boss?"
"You know it!" I give frost a high five on the way in trying to play it cool leaving a dumbfounded Kairon to figure out what just happened.
An hour and a half later
We are stood atop a dirt hill in the middle of the training compound. The hill has a flat circular top with a diameter of fifty meters. We are stood in a line just outside of a painted forty meter ring with Crona standing just inside it. "Through the past two and a half weeks you have been going through intense training and have come a long way. Who's curious on how far they have come?" Our instructor questions us with determination.
"Well I know I am!" Alix shouts out from the left.
"Good! Today's test will be sparing one on one. First up will be Hannah and Alix. There is no pass or fail, this is just an evaluation. So let's try not to make things too serious okay ladies? Step into the ring when your ready." Crona steps outside the ring to join the boys as a spectator while me and Alix make our way into the ring.
"Well, serious or not I hope you know I wont hold back!" Alix looks at me with a furious determination, loosening her shoulders and stretching her toned muscles.
"Good, I wouldn't have it any other way." I pause as I stop ten meters from the center. Alix stopped the same distance on the opposite side.
"Alright, some rules before you start. The fight ends if one of you is pushed out the ring or is no longer able to fight. Additionally, you will be given fifteen minutes to complete your match with one of these methods. The fighters my use anything at their disposal to gain the upper hand. I want no serious injuries, your all friends and this isn't a battle. You ready?" Crona waits for us to respond. I begin focusing my wavelength and give Crona a nod. "Begin!" Shouts Crona. We pause for a moment and then charge at each other. I rapidly cast a fireball in her direction. As Alix dives left to avoid it, I wind up my right arm for an uppercut. Purple flames ignite around my hand as I clench my fist. The punch makes a solid thud as I slam into her chest launching her skyward. I jump into the air, chasing her down.
Alix's right hand begin's to glow while she grabs her wrist with her left hand. "Let's see how you like this!" She partially transforms her arm into a cannon and opens fire. I barely have the time to make my wings and get out the way, watching the cannon round fly past me. I turn back to Alix who has begun a drop kick maneuver and quickly put my guard up. With a loud roar Her kick connects with my arms and i'm sent hurtling toward the arena floor. My wings manage to slow me down to control my momentum just before I hit the ground. I create a warp bow and draw an arrow, aiming where she was. "Scorched earth!" Alix screams as I notice her racing towards me with her fist clenched. I dodge the attack but the punch created an explosive shock wave, knocking me back. I dispel my bow and create my void sword, quickly driving the blade into the ground to slow me down. I pick myself up and pull my sword from the dirt.
Taking a fighting stance, I can just see Alix in the dust cloud. "Got you!" I charge into the cloud with a strong swing. A loud metallic clash rings out the the force of the colliding blades pushed the dust away. "What!" Alix had blocked my sword with her Bowie knife.
The dark steel blade glowed with a mysterious yellow tint. "This knife can use my wavelength to help block magical blades like yours, surprised!"
"Impressive, but that's gotta be hard on you since your not a Meister!" I press harder on the blade, breaking through her guard and throwing her off balance. I swing the sword at her mid-section, using my power to purposefully dull the blade. She has time to guard, but its not enough. My sword connects with her knife hard enough to break straight through her defense. The blade slams her in the chest launching her towards the edge but stopping just short.
She coughs and splutters as she struggles to her feet clearly winded from my last attack, the falling knife stabbing into the ground at my feet. "You swing pretty hard, with that thing! I don't think, I want that again!"
"I'm glad I dulled the blade, this will cut through tank armor like butter if I want it too. I don't want to sound arrogant, using this sword in such a way would out right use all my energy." I figured i'd be polite and give her a moment to catch her breath.
"Thanks for the tutorial and for letting me recover a little, ready to go back at it?" Her eyes are full of determination and wonder, I guess she's curious on who the strongest girl is on the team.
"You know it sweetie!" I blow her a kiss to try and throw her off. Alix's grin only gets bigger as she licks her lips an blows one back. I smirk as she charges me. 'I imagine she will come back for her knife, so let's try to keep it from her.' I ready my sword and step forward. I narrowly dodge Alix left cross as I swing my blade at her once more. Alix ducks under the blade and uppercuts my weapon. A small but powerful explosion is created on impact and my blade its shattered from its force. Alix slams a left roundhouse kick into my side with a similarly explosive force, dispelling my wings.
The crushing blow cracks a rib and lifts me from the floor. "Know I have you." Her boot collided with the floor with thunderous force as she readies an open palm. "Death Charge!" Her palm slams into my chest and generates a concentrated explosion, launching me with tremendous force.
I grit my teeth and try to summon my wings. Just as they begin to form, Alix begins chasing me down. I launch a fireball to buy me some time. She dodges it and closes the distance, slaming me in the gut. I cough and splutter as I impact against the floor. "That's, it!" Every word is a fight in itself at this point. "I'm, done!"
"Here let me give you a hand." Alix's kind words are the last thing I hear before I black out.
**POV Frost**
"Hey Alix, she alright?" I shout over concerned for my team mate.
"She's alright, I think that kick might have been too hard though!" Kairon rushes over to help carry her back.
"I think you went a little overboard with that whole combo to be honest Alix." Kairon states quite bluntly, but i'm siding with him on this one.
"Yeah, sorry i'll make it up to her and get her some cake later." She doesn't show it well, but I can see the remorse in her eyes.
I can see Kairon looking a little irritated by her overly simple approach. "Kairon." He looks over at me confused. "Don't worry, she gets it." I give him a confident smile with my statement as they reach us. The irritation starts leaving his face as he begins focusing on Hannah.
He gently sets her down while Crona comes over. Nathan and I make sure not to crowd round too much while Alix sits close by and watches, eagerly waiting to apologise. Sal however, had been meditating the whole time. I imagine i'll be fighting Nathan, so I bet he's readying himself for his fight with Kairon. Must not be easy, knowing your about to fight a demon. However, If anyone can withstand Kairon's force it would be him. "It's just a cracked rib, I should be able to sort that." Kairon's words puzzled me as he overlapped his hands just over her ribcage. I feel Kairon's wavelength begin to resonate with Hannah's. It looks like transferring his energy to her as blue aura formed around his hands. Hannah began to open her eyes and heard a loud crack from Kairon's form as he winced in pain. He sighs as his wavelength begins to relax. "Hey sleepy head, you feeling okay?"
"Yeah i'm okay, what was that?" Hannah seemed bewildered by what she saw.
"Well, Let's just say I took the pain from you." He must be joking.
"Care to translate?" I ask with a deadpan tone.
"I used my regeneration energy to heal her wound, but I take the damage. As long as the injury is minor, I can then let my regeneration patch me back up again." Kairon catches his breath at this point, recovering nicely. "See?" he then punches himself lightly on the previously broken bone with no pain at all.
"That's pretty handy." I pause my admiration to get serious. "But I want you to promise me you won't risk your life with that."
Kairon shivers under my cold stare. "Not a problem, like I said the injury has to be minor like cuts. If you lose an arm there's nothing I can do about it, so you have nothing to worry about."
"Good! I'll never live it down if I let my family die." I pause and internally grimace at my heavy handed explanation. "Sorry, i'm thinking too much."
Nathan lightly places his hand on my shoulder. "Don't sweat it boss, you just care about our well being." I nod and smile. "So teach who's next?"
