Ruby quickly made her way to the boardwalk, arriving there within an hour of her leaving the information center. She looked around for a moment, and then down to the note she still had clutched in her hand.
"Ah… So you're the one…" a familiar voice spoke. Ruby looked up, and sure enough, Charan was standing in his boat, moored off of a dock that hadn't been there a moment prior. Ruby stuttered for a moment, and then asked, "C-Charan? I went to the information center, but the lady there got scared and gave me this… She told me to show it to you and you'd tell me what it meant…"
Charan hummed and beckoned Ruby forwards, Ruby walked up and held out the piece of paper, and Charan grabbed it and looked at it. "Hmmm, I see… Ruby, would you kindly come aboard?"
Ruby cautiously stepped forwards and climbed into the riverboat, Charan then asked, "May I have your resident band please?"
Ruby nodded and handed over her resident band, and she watched as Charan placed it into his lantern, along with the note. As the note burned, the fog that the band emitted turned from a turquoise blue to a royal purple in color, then Charan gave Ruby a brilliant smile, "Alright then! We're off!"
Charan pushed off the dock and Ruby watched as the boat very quickly sped up, leaving the dock behind extremely quickly. Strangely though, just like the first time she had been on a boat ride with Charan, there seemed to be no wind whatsoever.
As the City of Knowledge faded into the distance, Ruby began to ask Charan questions, "Charan, where are we going?"
Charan responded to her questions earnestly, "The City of Hope, the newest city in the Inbetween."
"...Why?" Ruby asked.
Charan chuckled lightly, "Ha, well, because you are closely related to the spirit that runs that city!"
Ruby scratched the back of her head and tilted her head to the side in confusion, "Uh… how so? Is the spirit like… mom or something?"
Charan stifled another chuckle, "No little rose, but the true identity of the spirit is not mine to divulge. You will find out soon, no doubt."
The two sat in silence for a short while before Ruby spotted something cresting the horizon. As it came into view she gasped; Ruby could recognize the familiar form of Crescent Rose anywhere.
As they approached, Ruby marveled at the massive gold and blue form of Crescent Rose, and the surprisingly modern-looking city below it. Several stark white skyscrapers sat below the fully extended form of the Sniper-Scythe, along with what looked like the rest of a modern-day metropolis.
The Scythe stretched out over the landscape, the butt end of the snath resting on the river shore. Ruby watched as the city began to pass less quickly, the boat slowly coming to a halt at a golden dock that extended from the spike at the bottom of the snath. There was no boardwalk that connected it to the rest of the city, just a dock that connected to a massive blue structure.
Ruby cautiously stepped off the boat and onto the dock, as she did so Charan spoke up, "Ah, little one, don't forget your resident band, you'll need it."
Ruby started as Charan broke the silence, but she collected herself quickly and turned to Charan, she watched as he once again lifted the flame from his lantern into the one connected to the dock and allowed Ruby to place her hand inside.
The purple fog quickly coalesced into Ruby's resident band, but she now saw that the curly designs that resembled wind were no longer decals, but instead were made of a purple metal. Ruby also noticed that the symbol on her band had been replaced with the one on the note, in color too, not the blank engraving it had previously been.
Ruby made a mental note of the changes and said goodbye to Charan, not noticing the spirit disappear as soon as he was out of sight. Ruby looked ahead to the massive blue building. She had been dropped off on a dock with nowhere else to go, so Ruby resigned herself to her fate and walked down the dock towards the blue structure.
As Ruby approached the building, she saw that the blue wall that had previously looked solid was actually semi-transparent. Walking up to the wall, she rested her hand on it and gasped when, after pushing through some resistance, she passed right through the wall, stumbling into a hallway with a platform and a massive ramp.
Ruby cautiously stepped onto the platform, jolting when it began sliding up the steep golden metal ramp and up the corridor. Ruby watched the floor below slowly get further and further away, her mind starting to fill with questions now that she was alone.
Luckily, she was about to get several of her questions answered.
The platform taking Ruby upwards slowly came to a stop and a section of the ramp the platform had been sliding up opened to reveal a passage. Stepping through, Ruby was greeted by the sight of a massive room. The first thing she noticed was the tall and narrow nature of the room, and the massive blue rose design on the floor, the same design that was on her resident band.
Stepping further into the room, she noticed that there were several hallways branching off of the room, as if it was the central chamber to some massive complex. Ruby looked around for a while, seeing that some of the hallways had doors on the end, and others had spiral staircases leading downwards. After some time, she gave up, throwing her arms up in frustration and speaking aloud to nobody in particular, "Ugh! What the heck am I supposed to be doing?!"
To her surprise, she got a response. A womanly voice resonated from one side of the atrium along with the sound of boots on metal echoing throughout the room, said womanly voice laughed loudly, "Hehehehehe… aaaaaahh… Well little one, you're supposed to be meeting me… Oh fuck that's weird… Ahem, sorry…"
The woman had drawn closer, and Ruby's eyes widened considerably. Before her was what appeared to be a spirit, the surprising thing though, was everything else about the spirit. The woman was wearing a short sleeve blouse and combat pants, brown boots, and white gloves. She was also wearing a large golden cloak, the underneath of which was glowing blue like certain parts of the relics. However, the most striking part of her was her brilliant silver eyes, and her blue hair that faded to red at the bottom.
The woman spoke once more after clearing her throat, "I, little miss Ruby Rose from the 37th, am Rose, the spirit assigned to the Relic of Hope, and you… are very important."
Ruby stood with her mouth open in shock, and the newly named Rose chuckled brightly, "Haha! Well! Isn't that quite the look! But yeah, you're super important kiddo, and I'm here to sort of give you some guidance, for a while at least… anywho!"
Rose snapped her fingers and in the middle of the room a large desk materialized out of blue smoke that wafted out from the floor, along with two comfortable looking office chairs tucked against it. Rose gestured to the desk and followed Ruby as she walked over to it with a confused look on her face.
The two sat down opposite each other, and Rose smiled brightly before continuing to talk, "Now! I get the feeling that when you went to an information center the clerk or whatever got super spooked and handed you a paper, and then you came here, correct?"
Ruby nodded slowly in response, "Yeah… how did you know?"
Rose stifled a chuckle once more, "In due time Ruby, in due time… But yeah, I figured as much, so for now, here's how this is gonna work. You're gonna ask me questions, and I'll answer; however, there are two rules: One, No questions about me. Two, No questions about you. Got it?"
Ruby tilted her head, "but… What does that leave? If I ask you a question about where I'm gonna live… isn't that about me?"
Rose's face went from a light smile to a frown, "Uhhhh, I guess? Okay, how about: No questions about me, and no questions about how you're important. That sound good?"
Ruby gave an affirmative, "Yep! Uh, first question, where am I gonna live?"
Rose and Ruby spoke for a few hours, with Rose dutifully answering Ruby's questions, with the occasional answer of 'I'm not at liberty to tell you that' which Ruby found rather odd, but in the end Rose wouldn't budge on any of those questions, so they moved on.
Ruby eventually was told where she would be staying. Apparently the Rose family had a whole village in the City of Hope, and there she found a few versions of herself, as well as about 20 of her mother, two or three versions of Yang, a couple versions of Qrow, and even a few of her grandparents. Ruby settled into her new life, living in the Rose family village in her own home for just under two months before anything of note happened.
On her 51st day in the Inbetween, something changed, however. Ruby noticed that she was starting to get sick in the morning. It was usually just after she woke up, though sometimes she would get woken up by her stomach and need to rush to the restroom. Now, Ruby may be a naive person, but even she knew what that meant, so she decided to get some advice.
That line of thinking led to the extremely confusing game of cards Ruby was now playing.
Ruby was sat down across from her mother, both of them holding six cards. To Ruby's left, sat her mother, and to her right, sat herself, with both of them also holding six cards.
These alternate versions of Ruby and her mother all looked very different from how Ruby remembered, and how she herself looked. The Summer that Ruby was sitting across from had graying hair and was missing an eye, her left eye socket being covered by a patch.
The version of her mother that sat to her left had her hair cut short, and sat a full 5 inches taller than the other Summer. Her arms were significantly more muscular, and she had the unmistakable bracelets of Ember Celica's collapsed form on her wrists, painted in white rather than yellow. The other Ruby's differences were definitely the most jarring however. For one, she was in her mid thirties. For two, she was wearing a cloak that was not dissimilar to Summer's, with red on the outside and black on the underside, she was also in casualwear, the only thing denoting her as a Ruby being Crescent rose strapped to the small of her back.
As they played the card game, throwing cards down in the middle, they made small talk, and Ruby eventually was asked the question she had been waiting for, "I bet two, So, little Ruby, what did you want to talk about?" The other Ruby asked.
Ruby immediately blushed brightly and stammered for a second before slowly speaking her answer, "Gah! Wh-wha, I-i… S-so… uh… I've b-been getting sick in the mornings? And I wanted you guys' advice on… how… that sort of thing… works?"
Ruby was met with two concerned looks and a blank stare. After about 10 seconds the other Ruby spoke again… "Uh… do you know… who?"
Ruby blushed intensely, "L-Lunus… well, a version of him anyways, here, pretty much a day after I arrived."
The Summer across from her spoke, "Well, we'll be here to help you through it petal, all of us, there's probably twenty or so other Summers here, and we all love each one of you. I'm positive you'll be able to get advice from any of us… I bet 3, Spades."
The table all threw away several cards and drew up to six. The Summer on her left spoke next, "She's right Petal, you're in possibly the best place to get pregnant. You have over two dozen versions of your mom living not even a minute away, and there's probably a few versions of yourself that have some experience in that regard hanging around too."
"Not to mention Rose, she'll definitely make sure you're taken care of," the other Ruby added to what the Summer was saying. "She's protective like that." The Ruby threw a card down.
Ruby nodded meekly, staying quiet for a little while. After about a minute of silent card playing, Ruby sighed and brought her hands to her face while leaning back in her seat, "...Uuuuugh, I just… I don't know what I'm supposed to do! Rose says I'm important, but she won't tell me why. Some of you guys know why I'm important, but won't tell me why. I'm pregnant cause I made a dumb decision on my second night here. And to round it all out! I'm the reason my timeline was erased! So not only did I fail to stop my last life from getting ruined, but now, I've gone and ruined my new one!"
As Ruby spoke, her breathing became quicker and her voice got louder and started to crack. After finishing her thought, the room was silent save for her hyperventilation. A moment of silence passed while the other three in the room got up to surround Ruby. She managed to hold herself together for three and a half minutes, but eventually, she broke. Tears poured from her eyes and sobs wracked her body. From her perspective things only got worse, chills and goosebumps spread across her body and her hyperventilating worsened.
Then, after a few minutes of that, she felt her fingertips begin to numb and her legs began twitching, bouncing up and down rapidly. One of the Summers brought her a cup of water which she drank greedily, spilling a bit of it as her hands shook.
Ruby continued like that for around 15 minutes, her fingers tingling, leg bouncing, and goosebumps all over her body, after five minutes she became aware of just how… alert, she was. She knew that she was not okay, and her body seemed to know it as well. Ruby looked at her surroundings for the first time in a while, and she saw that one of the three had gotten Rose, she could see that Rose's mouth was moving, making words, but she couldn't hear them over the sound of her heart pounding.
She did manage to read one thing off her lips though, 'Panic attack'.
That's right, that's what's happening… but, I know what's happening, so why am I still panicking? Why can't I stop? Why? What? Ruby's mind went in circles. She knew exactly what was happening, but couldn't do anything to stop her body's reaction, her body wouldn't listen to her brain, forcing her to sit through it.
During her thinking, Ruby had started hyperventilating more severely and had begun disassociating, her eyes becoming glazed as the tears flowed freely. She was brought back to reality by the image of Rose's hand waving in front of her face. "-by! Ruby, focus on the sound of my voice!"
Ruby's eyes focused on Rose's face and voice, "Use my voice as an anchor, I'm here, you're safe, you have help, you're having a panic attack, look here."
Rose brought up a card from the table, the ace of spades, "Look, focus on this card, nothing else matters but this card. Look at it, stare at it, focus on it, memorize its details, its flaws, everything." Rose pressed the card into Ruby's hands, and when Ruby looked away from it to her face Rose's brow furrowed, and she looked to the card, waiting for Ruby to follow her gaze, "Ruby. Listen to me, the card Ruby, it's important, that card will help you more than I ever could. Focus on it, please."
Ruby focused on the card tuning out the rest of the world, and for a few minutes, she sat, staring at the card in her hands, occasionally turning it or flipping it. After four minutes she had stopped hyperventilating, and after another five her leg had stopped twitching.
Finally, after a total of fifteen minutes, Ruby's tears stopped falling. Ruby looked away from the card and up to Rose and the others, all four had concerned looks on their faces, Ruby let out a sigh and spoke, "I… S-sorry… I ruined the game didn't I?"
The look of concern on everyone else's face grew deeper, and the other Ruby spoke up, "That doesn't matter right now Ruby, what matters is that you're okay… you are okay, right?"
The question lingered in Ruby's mind for a moment, and as she thought about it she realized the true answer, "I… Yeah… I'm okay… I think." She lied.
The concern in the room lightened and Ruby continued, "I just… when you mentioned Rose… It reminded me of all the… secrets I guess, the stuff I don't know about… I just! I don't know what to do, and all this secrecy is not helping."
Rose had an apologetic look on her face, she took a deep breath, and then exhaled sharply out her nose, "Look kiddo, I'm sorry. But I literally can't tell you loads of things, because I am physically incapable. You are important, and I really do empathize, more than you could possibly know, but the laws I am bound to as a spirit, especially how I became a spirit, prevent me from telling you anything about it."
Ruby listened with a passive face before retorting, "Then why do all these other versions of me not want to tell me anything either! I've been trying to find out just what is so goddamn special about me for a month and nobody will tell me anything! My timeline was destroyed because I'm a shitty excuse for a huntress, and the first thing I hear upon finding out about the afterlife is that I'm somehow special enough to be uniquely more important than the other forty-nine versions of me!"
Ruby spoke again, this time in a strangled tone, clearly holding back tears, "I… I-i just… I want to go back, I want to go back. I just want to fix my timeline, stop all my friends from dying, I'd… I would do anything to get a new chance."
The room was silent for a moment, Rose had a solemn look on her face, the two Summers looked at Ruby with pity in their eyes, but the other Ruby had a glint in hers, she frowned for a moment and her forehead wrinkled, then she spoke, "You can… Go back that is… It's not… easy, but you can."
Ruby's head snapped to look at the other version of herself, "What? What do you mean? How?"
The Ruby grimaced, "You… can't yet. You won't be able to at all for… about eight months. But then? Go North, to the shrine of the Light Brother… and make a plea, If… If your argument is good enough, he'll make it work. Just… the baby, you're keeping it right?"
Ruby nodded slowly and the older Ruby continued, "Good.. good… then, just… Don't mess up its life because you're impatient. Don't have it and then immediately go galavanting into the past… It deserves at least a little calm before the storm."
Ruby nodded, "I won't, I promise"
After that, slowly the tense atmosphere faded from the room, Rose eventually left, and the four got back to their card game.
Ruby would remember that night for years to come, as well as her promise to her older self, and the words she had heard.
Time passed, and Ruby fully settled in. She started to make friends with the alternate versions of herself and her family, she even found a part-time job, and though she didn't need it, it was nice to have something to do.
It turned out that that's why most people worked in the inbetween, not because they needed money, but because they wanted to. Most people found that their dream job was just waiting for them, all they had to do was sign up.
Ruby, however, couldn't get the idea out of her head. 'Go Back'. It was such a simple thing, yet it seemed so impossible. Eventually, nine whole months flew by, and Ruby had her child. For the occasion, her Summer was there for the birth, while the few closest of her friends she had made in the Inbetween waited out in the waiting room.
After a rough but routine labor with no complications, Ruby gave birth to a beautiful baby boy. The baby had warm blue eyes that were filled with light, and he had a small tuft of blackish-brown hair that faded to a near white blonde on his head. As her child cried softly in her arms her mother asked her with a smile, "What are you going to name him?"
Ruby looked at her child, specifically his eyes, and with a warm smile she said, "Cobalt, Cobalt Lilac Rose."
Summer smiled softly, "Why Lilac if I may ask?"
Ruby returned her smile, "For Yang. Her eyes. I…" Ruby's smile fell slightly, "Even if she's alive in other worlds right now… she's fighting in most of them, just like I was… am… But my Yang, the one I grew up with, the one I fought alongside and watched die? I want to remember her, specifically. She's who his middle name refers to, nobody else, not even other versions of her."
Shortly after, a few versions of Ruby and Summer came in, and questions were asked, Ruby's life moved on. But that notion was still in her mind, 'You can go back'.
One year passed, and on the day Cobalt turned one, Rose came to where Ruby was staying, a small one-bedroom home that Rose had had built for her shortly after her arrival in the City of Hope. Upon hearing the soft knock at her door, Ruby got up from the couch she was sitting at and answered.
"Hello Ruby Rose from the Thirty-Seventh… Been a while…" Rose said once Ruby had opened the door.
Ruby, slightly confused, raised one eyebrow and responded, "Hi Rose… Yeah, it has… What's up?"
Rose, who up until this point had seemed a little tense, visibly relaxed, and said aloud, "I've come to… Remind you. Of what you said a while back… You can do it now. It… It's possible again."
Ruby's eyes widened. After having Cobalt, while she still thought about the past a lot, she was usually very focused on him, rather than on herself. Ruby responded after a pause, "Wait… you mean, I can go back? Like, right now?"
A twinkle formed in Rose's eyes, "Yes, well, er, not right now, you must go to the shrine of the God of Light and make a plea, but yes. You could take your son and leave right now, and be back before all of this within… I'd say the day, if you leave soon. Just go to either Charan or Heimbrinn, they'll help you out."
Ruby smiled brightly, a fire lit in her soul. Quickly, she hurried inside and packed her things. She didn't own much, so most of the things she did pack were supplies to take care of Cobalt, though she did have a few personal belongings that she packed into her pockets: a small magical crystal, a piece of engraved Relic Gold (a gift from Rose) and a small bolt of incredibly durable fabric that she had purchased to weave into her cloak.
After about 15 minutes, Ruby took off. On her person was her child, the things she packed, and a sack of Inbetween currency. It wasn't long until she reached the docks, and was greeted by a cheery-looking Charan.
"Ah! Ruby, It's finally time isn't it?" Charan asked with an excited smile and a glint in his eye, "Step on, step on! And hand me your band, the little one rides for free."
Ruby did so, and Charan placed the band into the lantern, smiling uncharacteristically wide as the band evaporated into a deep purple fog, "Wonderful, well, let's be off then, no time to waste!"
As they set off down the river of fog, Ruby watched with a solemn look as the City of Hope slowly faded into the distance. It was only a short two or three minutes before they sidled up to a small relic iron dock, with seemingly nothing around.
Ruby looked back to Charan, and he offered his lantern, placing her wrist in it. He once again smiled widely when the fog began to swirl around her hand, not coalescing into any solid form.
Charan then looked past Ruby and nodded, and when Ruby looked back, Heimbrinn was standing at the point where the dock met land. After a few seconds he spoke, the smile on his face evident in his rumbly voice. "Come, Ruby, the shrine awaits."
Heimbrinn then turned and began to walk further up the river, and Ruby was quick to follow. After another fifteen minutes of walking, Ruby realized that she could see blue fog on both horizons, and after another ten, she realized that they had reached the end of the river, the massive flowing river of blue fog on her right met an enormous ocean of fog on her left, and on the last bit of land was a small golden platform.
Heimbrinn had stopped just short of the platform, and as Ruby walked past him towards it she felt a small rush of air, looking back, he was gone.
Turning back, Ruby ascended the three small steps onto the platform and stood in the middle of it, her child in her arms the only other human around for hundreds of miles.
After a minute or so of just the sound of her and her child's breathing, she heard a voice, one she had heard before.
"Hello Child. Please, speak to me your woes, and should I be willing, I shall grant you a boon to the best of my powers."
Ruby jumped a little bit upon hearing the God of Light's voice, but she quickly steeled her resolve. "I am Ruby Rose of the Thirty-Seventh, a timeline you and your brother judged negatively. I wish to change this outcome, I wish to go back, back to a time where I can make humanity work in harmony with itself, I know Ozma's downfall, and I wish to right it."
The God of Light listened patiently, and responded in a warm tone, "What you ask is both possible and not. The strings of fate have doomed timeline thirty seven, but others are within reach.
I can send you to the past, and you may help those timelines you arrive in receive their positive judgment to the best of your ability, but I must warn you. The Thirty-Seventh is doomed if you do this.
The very act of you traversing time seals the fate of the Thirty-Seventh, for if it is saved, you shall not die in the defense of the kingdom of Vacuo, and therefore will never go back to save it. I am sorry, but this is a truth you must accept."
Ruby thought for a moment, and spoke aloud, "So… I'll go back, to all of them? All fifty?"
"Yes, You will arrive on the day of your birth in all fifty timelines, as will the child in your arms. You will be given The Relic of Hope and, should the relic deem you worthy in that timeline, it will assist you in your mission. However, if it does not, you must not assist that timeline. There are forces at play that are beyond your understanding as a mortal, and should you intervene overtly in Ozma's mission in certain worlds, all you will be doing is sealing fate. Rose will inform you of this as you enter the world. If you are told to not interfere, live as normal, but do not seek out Ozma or the consequences will be dire.
In addition, you must change your name. Though you may tell those you trust the truth, it is better for all if you simply create a new identity for you and your child. Lastly, your child, since he was born here, has magic. He has Innate-True magic, as do all who are born in the inbetween. Because of this, he is akin to the first age of humanity, rather than the second age that you knew."
Ruby let everything sink in, and after a minute of silence, spoke with a resolute tone, "I… I accept. I, Ruby Rose, will go back to the past of every timeline."
"Very Well. Please, brace your mind, this will be uncomfortable."
Suddenly, Ruby felt her whole body become tingly. Cobalt, who had been napping peacefully, stirred slightly. Then, Ruby had what she could only describe as an out-of-body experience; her vision seemed to collapse in on itself, and her senses fell away, leaving her with nothing but her own thoughts. Then, slowly, her vision returned. At first it was entirely white, but after a few seconds, a crack seemed to split across it, then more, until her vision was subdivided into about fifty small fragments.
Ruby felt her stomach drop, and an intense feeling of vertigo as she suddenly found herself standing in a small irregularly shaped room with walls made of mirrors, a flat white floor, and an open roof. The sky was gray, with several tiny stars glittering in the distance.
"This is the turning point. You are Ruby Rose of the Thirty-Seventh no more. Please choose a new name for yourself, and for your Child."
Ruby thought, and thought. And after nearly ten minutes, she spoke softly, "Aurum…" Ruby paused for a long while, "Roseā… Lazuli"
She then took a breath, "And my son will keep his name, but will take my last name, 'Cobalt Lilac Lazuli'."
The God of Light's voice once again spoke, "You will now be split fifty-two times over. When you regain consciousness, Rose will assist you, or, in one special case, I will assist you."
"Now, Farewell, Aurum Lazuli."
Ruby, now Aurum, felt for a moment like there was liquid hot fire being poured into her brain. Out of the corner of her eye, she watched the still flowing purple fog around her left hand slow to a stop, and then expand to fill her vision. A moment passed, and then she lost consciousness.
Suddenly, in fifty-two separate places, Aurum and her child awoke on a plane of existence known by the gods as Nowhere. However, for the purposes of this story, we are only going to focus on two of them, the version destined to go to the twelfth timeline, and the fifty-second version, the version without a timeline.
First, the version without a timeline.
Aurum awoke to a white expanse. She couldn't feel the ground beneath her feet, but simultaneously, she wasn't falling. She was simply floating in nothingness. Suddenly, the form of the God of Light stood around twenty feet in front of her. The two shared a look for a moment, and then the Brother God spoke. "Hello. You are the fifty-second split of Aurum Lazuli, and you shall be given a special task. You do not have a home timeline, because your purpose is not to enter any given timeline."
Aurum tilted her head slightly, "What… What do you mean?
The god responded to her question with another, "Do you know how the relics work?"
Aurum shook her head slowly. "Each relic is a structure in the inbetween. Bestowed with power in my and my brother's fountains, they draw fuel, godly magic, from the blue fog that exists in that realm. Each relic is bound to an individual, a conduit for that immense power. That power flows through that person, allowing them incredible magical ability, but also burdening them with the responsibilities of attending to the relic.
"You, Aurum Lazuli, shall become one of these individuals, You will be attending to the newest relic to be added in the inbetween, The Relic of Hope."
Aurum blinked. And again. "I'm sorry, what?"
"I believe you have met yourself actually, time travel is odd like that."
A moment of silence passed, then Aurum said, "So… I'm Rose?"
The Brother God simply nodded.
Aurum took in a deep breath then exhaled quickly, "So… How do we do this?"
"First, you must pick up the object before you."
As he spoke, a floating golden orb appeared in front of her. Aurum placed Cobalt floating in the air to her right and grabbed the object with both hands. Upon picking it up, she noted that it was cool to the touch, and was light for a seemingly metal object of its size.
"Now, recite my words: I Aurum Lazuli do hereby humbly accept the privileges, responsibilities, boons, and burdens of my station. I swear on my life and afterlife, my very soul, to uphold the will of the Brother Gods, to play my role in these worlds and the next, until my time is up. I know my place, and I accept it."
Aurum did so, word for word. As soon as the last syllable left her mouth, she noticed something, her skin was beginning to turn blue on her hands. From the point of contact on her fingertips, blue skin began to spread across her body. This continued slowly until her whole form was a bright godly blue.
"You have now taken the form of the spirit of the Relic of Hope. Your first duty is to shape your relic, the golden orb in your hands. Imagine it as the form you wish for your relic to take."
Rose did as asked, closing her eyes and imagining the ideal weapon in front of her, and when she opened her eyes the form of Crescent Rose floated in front of her. The Brother God spoke again, "Good. Now imagine its dormant form, this should be inconspicuous, easily concealable, or otherwise unnoticeable"
Rose once again complied, imagining a simple pair of diamond-shaped earrings with blue gemstones. As before, the pair of earrings sat before her. "Excellent, Now, for your second duty, to greet the first wielder, Aurum Lazuli of the Fourth."
Aurum Lazuli of the Twelfth awoke in a similar location, only standing before her was Rose, though in a different outfit and with slightly shorter hair. Rose greeted her with excitement, "Hiii! It's been sooo long since I've greeted one of you guys! Like, at least three years! Anyways, you ready for the big reveal? It's pretty great I swear, like, mind blowing stuff."
Aurum nodded slowly, perturbed at the sight of such a cheery Rose, "Uuuhh, sure, I guess?"
Rose smiled brightly and pointed at Aurum with an outstretched finger. "I'm You!"
Aurum blinked, "What? What do you mean?"
Rose giggled lightly, "I'm you dummy. I'm Ruby Rose from the thirty-seventh! When the brother of light split us up into the timelines, how many did he make? Fifty-Two! Fifty one timelines, because timeline zero exists for some reason, and then me! Number fifty-two! Anywho, you're going to the Twelfth. This is a timeline where you may intervene, and actually It's pretty imperative that you do, because without you, this one will go kablooey like ours did. So get ready to get out there and change the world! But first, I gotta let you know, your primary objective should probably be getting to Theodore, He's got an… important… thing for you. "
Rose then cooed a bit at baby Cobalt, before winking at Aurum, and blinking out of existence.
Aurum of the twelfth was left thoroughly confused, but after a minute of floating in nothingness, she felt an extreme sense of vertigo, and after another short but nauseating moment, found herself back on Remnant.
A/N:
Hello! So this is the last chapter I have pre-written, I just wanted to say that I am loving the reception, and am gonna keep writing this, Also, Singular Ash, I just wanted to inform you that me and ToastyAuthor have been looking forwards to your reviews on her fics, and it's actually super cool to hear that you enjoy my fic as well, given that I've been her primary beta reader since she released the original Ozza's Remnant. If you ever want to talk about The universe we've built, Me and her are both regulars on the R/RWBY discord server's fanfiction channel, feel free to stop by!
