Everyone, the tournament in Atlass is approaching and I need a team!
I'm an incredible player who have once even won against the winning team themselves. I believe with my help any team will be able to take the first place.
Who wants to team up with me?

Huh, the people are really excited for the tournament, aren't they?
I wished I could compete with you as well. Unfortunately, Atlas is a bit too far away from my home, to attend a single event like that.

Studying ahead was a pain.
It was a truth as real as the fact that grass was green, the sky was blue, and the world was round. There wasn't a person who enjoyed studying more than they should, and forcing someone to do it was unethical.
At least that was what Weiss believed.
There used to be a time she hadn't been so negatively inclined towards the action of studying more than she should. It, however, was a long time ago, and long before she had ever learnt of the joy of video games and friendship.
Unfortunately, Whitley didn't see it the same way.
She couldn't help but pity her brother because of that.
The boy's life was really horrible.
"Please, stop looking at me like that, Weiss." Whitley said as he looked up from the book he was using to study. "There's an entire chapter about the economy of Atlas; we still have to get over it today."
Weiss grumbled loudly.
"It's so tiring, though." She complained.
Whitley chuckled slightly.
"It is what we have to do, sister."
Weiss groaned.
She couldn't believe her brother could just ignore everything and study the entire evening without any complaints. It was supposed to be his free time—the only time in the day he could use for anything he wanted!
Didn't he have anything else he would rather be doing than studying?
A sigh almost escaped her.
Of course, her brother wouldn't have anything else to do right now. Whitley, despite his apparent maturity, was as clueless about his own desires as she had been before being introduced to the world of gaming.
If she were to guess, the boy probably wouldn't know what to do with himself if he was actually given a full day of free time like she had back in the day. He would have probably ended up wandering around the mansion the entire day before going back to bed after completely wasting a day.
It was quite pitiful, really.
With a conviction in her heart, she subtly nodded her head to herself.
There was really only one thing she could do about it; she was going to introduce her younger brother to some hobbies!
Those hobbies didn't even need to be gaming-related!
She wouldn't complain if they were, however.
"I'm happy that you appeared to have found some motivation, Weiss, but please get back to the studying." Whitely said, heartlessly interrupting her internal moment of conviction and determination.
Weiss slumped in her seat.
"It isn't even the material that we are going to be covering on the lesson we want to skip in a month." She argued as she once again checked the chapter they were currently studying. "I'm pretty sure we are going to be covering this very chapter in at most four lessons."
Whitley raised his eyes from the book to look at her.
"Alright," The boy said. "Tell me, sister, what chapter do you think we are going to be covering on a lesson in precisely one month and ten days from now? If you can tell me what it's going to be, I'm more than willing to skip ahead to study only that."
Weiss could only groan in response as she was faced with the question posed by her brother.
Although they had books they could use to study almost all the materials presented in their lessons, their teachers tended to cover those books out of order. They also often used other supplementary material for their lessons.
It technically wasn't impossible to figure out what their future lessons were going to be about; it was just incredibly difficult and unlikely to happen.
As a result, the only thing they could really do to study ahead was go over all the future topics extensively and hope that one of them was going to be chosen for their next lesson.
Sufficed to say, it wasn't exactly the most pleasant or efficient method of learning new information.
"I see that you get my point." Whitley said, at her lack of a spoken answer. "Now, quit complaining, and let's get back to our books. There's still quite a few sub-chapters we have to go over before calling it a day."
Weiss did her best not to whine in annoyance at more studying that was just ahead of her.
The only thing helping her get through all of that was the promise that after all of the studying was over for the day, she would still get to play at least one game with her friends before needing to go to bed.
It wasn't much when it came to positives, but it was still some silver lining.
She could only hope that the match they were going to play would at least be entertaining. There was no way to describe how annoyed she would be if the thing she did to relax would end up being tiring as well.
(...)
After the studying session she had with Whitley had ended, it didn't take long for Weiss to connect to her friends on the voice chat.
In fact, going back to her room and starting the computer to open the app was the very first thing she did the moment she earned her free time. She had been that excited about playing with her friends after all that work she had to do earlier.
Unsurprisingly, both her friends were already online in the conversation for quite a while by the time she was able to join them.
What was surprising, however, was the conversation her friends appeared to have been entrapped in the moment she joined the chatroom. The dialogue her friends were having wasn't as light-hearted as it tended to be.
It was unusually tense instead.
"You were the one who wanted us to watch it together, weren't you? Why are you trying to go back on it now?" Jaune's words echoed through her speakers the moment she connected to the voice chat.
"I'm just saying I got the offer, okay? I haven't decided whether I actually accept it or not yet. Besides, you have to admit, it would be pretty nice to have at least one of us be a part of it, wouldn't it?" Chammy immediately countered.
Weiss stayed silent.
Neither of her friends seemed to have noticed her as she joined the chat, and she wasn't quite sure whether she was supposed to bring attention to herself or not. The conversation they were having sounded important.
It would have been great if she knew the context for it.
A loud sigh echoed through the voice chat as Jaune reacted to
"Do you even know the people who gave you that offer in the first place?" The boy asked. "I don't think you want to get into this with people you know nothing about. What if they scam you or make a fool out of you?"
Chammy stayed silent for a moment.
"I know their names, I think." The girl said after a moment, trying to defend herself.
"You think?!"
Okay, Weiss had no idea what her friends were talking about, and she would rather all of them spend the night playing games together than arguing about something she was not privy to.
It was time to make her presence known.
"Isn't knowing the names of people you have to deal with a completely reasonable thing to be expected of you?" She asked.
Her friends reacted with shouts of surprise.
"Snow, you're here!" Jaune reacted.
"When did you get here?" Chammy followed with a question.
Weiss couldn't help but cough awkwardly a little at the sudden attention placed upon her. When she had acted to gather the attention of her friends, she didn't expect their reaction to be so immediate.
She really was the centre of attention now, wasn't she?
"Y-Yes, I'm here." She said in a slightly awkward manner before calming herself and continuing normally. "I joined the voice call during your last exchange of words. What were you talking about, by the way?"
A brief moment of quietness met her question.
"Well," Chammy broke the silence. "I kind of was offered a place on a team that wants to participate in the upcoming ATG tournament. They are missing one person to form a team, and I was offered to be that final team member."
Weiss could only blink in confusion.
"That's great?" She asked more than stated.
Jaune sighed.
"She's thinking about actually accepting the offer and taking part in the tournament." The boy said. "You know, despite her being the one who proposed that we watch it together in the first place. I don't mind it that much, but you have to agree it's a rude thing to do."
Weiss nodded her head slightly, despite knowing neither of her friends would see it.
Although she might not be the most impartial person about this issue considering her situation, she had to agree that it would be quite rude of her friend to simply leave them alone to watch her play in the tournament.
If she was given a similar offer, she probably wouldn't have accepted it herself.
Then again, as far as she was aware, Chammy hadn't accepted the offer yet, either.
"Did Chammy decide to take part in the tournament already?" She asked for clarification.
"I did not!" Chammy protested. "I'm only contemplating it for now. That's why I even bothered to bring this topic up with Jaune in the first place. I want your opinion on what I should do with it."
Weiss let out a quiet hum in affirmation.
"I'm only saying that you shouldn't do it, too." Jaune said. "I don't think that an offer like that should really be contemplated at all; simply tell those people who tried to recruit you that you won't do it, and move on."
Chammy groaned a little.
"It would be such a good chance to play against other good players, though." The girl said. "Think about it; how much more enjoyable this tournament is going to be if at least one of us will have first-hand experience with it."
"What would even be the point of having only one of us play in the tournament for a team-based game?" Jaune continued the argument.
Chammy sputtered incomprehensibly in response, unable to find an immediate answer.
Weiss sighed quietly.
It was clear to her that the other girl wanted to join the tournament. The chance to play against other players that were bound to be at least competent at the game didn't happen every day, after all.
The fact that it was the very first event like that made the offer even more tempting.
In all honesty, she wasn't really that much against the idea.
The chance to meet even one of her friends online during the day was still far more than what she usually had. Just because not all of her friends were going to be with her at the same time didn't mean that it would be a wasted time.
On top of that, she couldn't say that she wasn't tempted at the prospect of having someone from her team attend an event like that.
It would be a perfect opportunity to find out whether they truly were the best players of ATG right now or not.
Letting Chammy take part in the tournament might not be a terrible thing in the end. Sure, it wasn't going to be perfect—she would certainly love to play in the tournament as well—but it certainly wasn't going to be anything too terrible.
It would also make her a bit more comfortable with letting Whitley join the voice call.
There would be a significantly lower chance of her brother revealing her identity to her friend if her friend was busy playing in the tournament, after all.
"I think you should go for it, Chammy." Weiss said with a practiced calmness, ending the argument between her friends. "Don't worry about Knight and I; we will cheer you on the entire time."
"Really?!" Chammy said with disbelief in her voice.
"Are you sure about that, Snow?" Jaune added.
Weiss huffed.
Apparently, it wasn't enough to convince herself to let her friend participate in the tournament. She also had to convince both her friends that she was truly fine with that decision, on top of that.
What noisy and caring friends she ended up having?
There wasn't a single thing she would rather have instead of them.
"Yes, really." She said, finally. "It's a pity that we won't be able to play with you in the tournament. However, you don't have to feel overly guilty about wanting to attend it anyway, Chammy. You better win it, though."
Chammy chuckled a little.
"You bet, I'm going to win." The girl said. "There's nobody better than the winning team."
"There's nobody better than a winning person, more likely." Jaune grumbled, not too pleased with the decision but unwilling to make a big deal about it. "I don't think you can call yourself the winning team if you will be the only one of us there."
"I'm still going to be the best player there!" Chammy said.
"Sure, you will." Jaune conceded with resignation.
Weiss giggled.
It was good to know that such an argument didn't cause any issues between her friends.
Although the scale of the problem wasn't quite the same as the scale of her own struggle, it made her that much more confident that her own issue wasn't going to ruin their friendship.
Yeah, she was pretty confident that she could tell Chammy who she was without too many problems.
She tightened her fists.
It didn't mean that she was comfortable with revealing who she was right now, however.
They have just gone through a solid argument about something completely different. There was no need for her to add another issue to deal with at this very moment. It would just complicate things.
There would still be time for her to do that in the future.
With a slight nod to herself, Weiss leaned forward and moved her hands over the keyboard.
"Alright, now that the issue of attending the tournament is dealt with, how about we get into gaming for tonight?" She asked. "I had an exhausting time today, and I would love nothing more than to let out some steam in a game or two of ATG. Are you two with me, or not?"
Both her friends chuckled a little in response.
"Of course we are!" Chammy said after a moment.
With all their momentary issues sorted for now, they quickly got into the game and started searching for matches. All of them were ready to spend the rest of the night playing games together.
Weiss could only smile as she watched their first opponents being chosen by the game.
It was going to be an incredible time.
(...)
The games—to her absolute surprise—did not go as well as Weiss thought they would.
All the opponents they encountered were using cheep tactics against them, stretching out the games far too much to be fun. On top of that, it was clear that the people were preparing for the tournament because they always kept messaging them on the chat, asking if they wanted to join their teams.
That was all without mentioning their teammates, who always ended up being next to useless against their enemies.
The only thing that wasn't so terrible was the fact that they actually managed to win all the games they played.
Of course, they only won all those games by a small margin, but a victory was a victory nevertheless.
They also ended up playing more matches than Weiss expected. Instead of the two short games she thought they would end up playing at most—if they were lucky—they played four entire matches in the end.
It left her completely exhausted.
The early hour she was seeing on her computer's clock and the prospect of another day full of lessons awaiting her only made the feeling of exhaustion she was dealing with so much worse.
At least her friends didn't have to deal with anything like that.
Both her friends would probably be fine if they pulled an all-nighter tonight. At the very least, they most likely weren't going to be pushing themselves to their limit the very next day like she undoubtedly would.
In all honesty, she was quite a bit jealous of that.
"Alright," Chammy yawned. "I think I'm done for today. I don't know about you, guys, but I'm literarily falling asleep as we speak right now. We will continue our games tomorrow. Good night, guys!"
A chime resounded through the voice chat, signifying that someone has left it.
"Good night, Chammy." Jaune and her said at the same time, despite the fact that their friend had left the voice chat before they could say anything.
Jaune sighed.
"I'll probably be going to sleep now too, Weiss." The boy said.
Weiss couldn't help but twitch a little at the sudden use of her name.
Despite the fact that she was well aware that her friend knew who she was, she still wasn't used to him acting upon it in any way.
It was a good thing, she supposed. If Jaune were to use her real name more often, the chances of him accidentally calling her by name when Chammy was in voice chat would increase by a lot.
She would rather not risk that.
"Yeah, I'll be going to sleep to." Weiss said, ignoring the reaction she just had.
Jaune hummed in response.
"Will you be alright tomorrow?" The boy asked.
"H-Huh?" Weiss asked dumbly.
"I'm talking about your responsibilities." Jaune explained. "Look, I might not be the most knowledgeable person about the politics of Atlas, but even I can tell that you probably have a lot of duties to attend to. You are the heiress of the biggest Dust company, after all. I heard that your father does put quite a lot of pressure on you already."
Weiss blinked slowly a couple times as she processed the words of her friend.
Right, it wasn't exactly a secret that she was currently the heiress of the SDC. Her father most certainly never ceased his bragging about all the academic achievements she has already reached despite her young age, either.
She tended to forget just how much of her life was known to the public.
In the end, she could only let out a sigh and answer her friend in the only way she knew.
"Don't worry." Weiss said calmly with practiced ease. "It's not so bad; I'll manage."
The only response that met her was a moment of silence from Jaune.
It made her quietly wonder whether her friend believed her or not.
"I don't believe you." Jaune said plainly.
Apparently, he didn't believe her.
Weiss sighed.
"Okay, my lessons might be that bad." She admitted. "However, it isn't something that I can't manage. I've been doing fine before you knew who I was, and I will be doing fine now. Besides, there is nothing we can really do about it, is there? It's not like I can simply cut every one of our gaming sessions short because my daily life is too difficult. Can you imagine how unreasonable that would be from me?"
Jaune hummed once again.
"You know," The boy started. "I'm pretty sure that Ilya would be far more understanding of your situation than you can imagine. Of course, you would have to tell her who you are first for that to happen."
Weiss groaned.
"Ilya would only be understanding of me in that situation if we were still friends by that point. Which isn't exactly guaranteed considering what my family did to her." She mumbled before huffing a little and speaking up. "It isn't that easy, Jaune, and you know it."
Jaune sighed.
"Alright, I won't be forcing you to do anything." He said.
Weiss let out a breath of relief.
"Thank you." She said quietly. "I will tell Chammy who I am at some point, I promise."
Jaune grunted in agreement.
"In that case, I will leave it up to you to decide when that moment will be." The boy said; his voice sounded as if he was stretching while talking. "Right now, however, I'll be going to sleep. I'm way more tired than you can imagine."
Weiss chuckled a little.
"Trust me, I doubt you're even half as tired as I am right now." She said.
"I sincerely hope, I'm not." Jaune said with a yawn. "Good night, Weiss."
"Good night, Jaune."
A chime of a person leaving the voice chat resounded through the voice chat.
Weiss sighed quietly.
It was time she went to sleep as well.
The days ahead of her were bound to be difficult, and she would rather not make a habit of going to sleep so late it was almost morning. That type of life would drain her of all her energy in no time.
It was a bit of a pity she most likely wouldn't get the chance to watch the tournament with both her friends at the same time, but she would manage.
Right now, she should focus on nothing more than ensuring that she would actually get to watch the tournament with even one of her friends. It wasn't guaranteed she would get the chance to do that, after all.
Hopefully, by the time the tournament came around, she would be able to cheer on her friend with no worries at all.
(...)
The days have passed, the ATG tournament was merely a day from happening, and Weiss was ready to show her teachers that lessons for the next day were completely unnecessary.
It hadn't been easy to prepare for that, but with the help of her brother, she believed they could manage it.
In the end, there had been a couple days she was barely conscious while studying. Despite her multiple attempts at cutting the gaming sessions short, she still ended up losing quite a few nights of sleep the last month.
It certainly worried Jaune, as well, whose concern for her health became quite apparent the last few weeks.
Thankfully, she had her brother to help her during the more tiring days.
"Are you ready, Weiss?" Whitley asked from the side.
Their first lesson of the day was about to start, and they've been waiting for the teacher to arrive for a couple minutes already. It was an incredibly important lesson for them, because it was finally the time for them to make use of all the knowledge they amassed throughout the last month.
Now, they only needed to present it to the teacher.
"Yes, I'm ready, Whitely." Weiss whispered back to her brother.
"That's good." The younger boy said with a smug smile on his face. "There shouldn't be any problems for us to prove that we don't need the next lessons. Of course we can still wait until tomorrow if you want. It was the original plan, after all."
Weiss rolled her eyes in exasperation.
Originally, they planned to showcase that they were ahead of the lesson plan on the very day they wanted to ensure would be free. However, as the day of the tournament came closer and closer, they realised that they could guarantee it a whole day earlier.
All the studying they did was so fruitful that they not only learnt exactly what they needed for the next lesson but they also went over all the alternative topics their teachers could choose instead.
They studied so much ahead that there literally wasn't anything the teacher could throw at them that they wouldn't already know.
In short, they could have been a little bit more relaxed with their studying.
She knew they didn't need to study so much ahead!
Of course, her brother took it as his victory anyway, and as a result, he had been acting far too smug for her own liking.
It was incredibly annoying.
Whitley's smug smile widened.
"Yeah, I get it." Weiss huffed. "Your plan worked exactly as you said it would, and in fact, thanks to your effort, it worked even better. It was a good thing we studied ahead. Are you happy now?"
"Greatly." Her brother said calmly with a smile.
Weiss grumbled.
Whitley laughed a little.
A pout appeared on Weiss's face.
Great, she could already picture her brother acting far too smug for the next couple of months because of that; the occasion was far too god not to make use of it. She could already tell that it was going to be an annoying year.
"Don't worry, I won't hold it over your head for too long." Whitley said in assurance. "I'm actually just excited about meeting your friends for the first time. What did you say they called themselves again? Knight and Chammy?"
A sigh escaped Weiss.
"Yes, their nicknames are Knight and Chammy. We will be watching the tournament with just Jaune—that is Knight, if you're wondering—however. Chammy will be playing in the tournament instead." She explained.
Whitley raised one of his eyebrows in contemplation.
"Chammy is the one who doesn't know who you are, right?"
Weiss nodded her head.
"A pity." Whitley remarked. "It would have been a perfect occasion to finally introduce yourself to her, wouldn't it? Your other friend and I would have worked perfectly as a way to decrease the tension between you two."
"It's not that easy, okay?" Weiss said with a groan.
"Of course it isn't." The boy said with a lofty attitude. "I'm just saying that it would be a perfect chance to do that. If you don't feel ready to trust your best and only friends yet, then I can't force you to do anything."
The only response Weiss gave her brother was a pointed glare.
"I'm simply telling you what I believe, Weiss." Whitley said.
Weiss sighed once more.
"I will tell her who I am at some point, alright?" She said. "There are other things we have to deal with right now. Besides, I don't want to risk my friendship just yet."
Whitely let out a hum in response.
Weiss groaned.
"Enough of that." She said. "The teacher is coming, and we have an entire future lesson to predict. There's an entire free day as a price for doing it right. We better do our best and earn it, okay?"
Whitley chuckled.
"Alright, I'm with you on this one."
Weiss nodded her head.
"That's great!"
True to her words, it didn't take long for the teacher to arrive and start the lesson.
There quite literally wasn't anything new they could learn from this lesson, but it didn't mean that she was going to relax at any point during it. After all, she needed to give her best if she wanted the teacher to believe she didn't need the next one.
It was all for a bigger purpose, though.
The chance to watch the tournament with her friends was essentially a once in a lifetime event for her, and she wasn't going to waste it, even if she would only get to watch it with only one of them in the end.
A confident smile made its way onto her face.
She couldn't wait to see how far her friend would get in the tournament.
And Cut!
Well, this was an exhausting chapter to write. I had an idea for the next chapter, and I think I ended the previous chapter well, however this chapter was a transitional chapter and I had no idea how to connect those two well.
Hopefully, you guys enjoyed reading it, more than I did writing it.
Anyway, that's it for now.
See ya!
