Topic: New Update and New Game

Good morning, everyone. I bring you today two different pieces of news, and I believe you will be excited for both of them.
First: We have seen the tournament, and noticed that some of our characters are a little bit unbalanced (be it too strong or too weak), as such we are currently in the process of making a small update to rebalance them. We hope it will make the game a little bit more interesting.
Second: Due to the game mode's unprecedented popularity that could have been seen from the number of people watching the stream from the tournament, we have decided to turn our mod into a whole game! It will have a whole separate position in the game store, and all elements relating to the Sci-War the will be erased.
I hope it will be to your liking.

Yes, we are aiming to keep our game mode free, even if it will turn into its own product.
We will most likely include some paid content in the game; nothing that will have any impact on the game itself, though.

That sounds stupid.
Who will want to pay for something that would have no effect on the game anyway? Wouldnt that just literarily be throwing away money for nothing?

I actually think that it isn't a bad idea at all. It will allow us to support the game developers while keeping the game free, plus if it really won't have an impact on the game itself then it would allow the game to stay fair as well.
Personally, I can see myself buying some of those in game items when the game comes out.

Yeah, me too. I wouldn't mind buying some useless, if it means supporting the creators of a game mode I enjoy playing so much.

Don't worry, we will make sure to keep all the payable items cosmetic only. They aren't going to have any effect on game play at all.
I promise this to you all on my family name's honour.

I have no idea why, though.

The computer started with a loud hum of its fans.
It wasn't the most modern machine, nor was it really that good anymore; even the public computers in this very cafe were probably slightly better than this old thing. Furthermore, it had barely any disc space for games or programs to run anymore.
There was one thing about it that made all of these flaws irrelevant to Ilia, however.
That computer was basically hers.
It technically was a private computer used by the owner of the cafe. However, there were hardly any times she couldn't use the old thing. It was because the cafe owner treated her like his own granddaughter, and she had permission to use it whenever she wanted.
When it came down to it, she actually had easier access to her computer than Jaune, despite the fact that the boy actually was one of the owners of his computer.
A wry smile formed on her face.
It wasn't like it really mattered all that much to her anyway.
She mostly played games with her friends during their daily gaming sessions, and hardly ever did she bother to play anything alone. There simply wasn't truly a reason for her to use that computer when her friends weren't online all that often.
The time she couldn't spend with her friends was better spent training and studying.
Before she could reminisce about her life any further, however, the computer had managed to finish its starting process and was already showing the main screen.
It had taken a while—she was pretty sure that if one of her friends were to see how long it took, they would have wondered how she could deal with that almost every day—but the computer was fully ready to use in the end.
Ilia immediately opened the voice chat app.
Although the computer she was using wasn't the best, it was more than enough to run simple apps like these.
She did use this thing for gaming, after all.
The app opened without any issues, and the moment it did, she noticed that Jaune was already on the voice chat.
Without wasting any time, she joined the voice chat.
"Hey there, Jaune." She greeted. "I see that Snow's not here with us yet. Is she going to be late again?"
"Woah, Ilia! Hey!" Jaune reacted with surprise before calming down with a huff and addressing her question. "I-I don't think that W-Snow is going to be joining us today. As far as I'm aware, she and her brother had to sacrifice quite a bit of their free time to watch the tournament yesterday."
Ilia raised her eyebrow with curiosity.
"Her brother?" She asked.
The fact that her friends had siblings wasn't a secret to her, but the fact that one of those siblings was suddenly relevant to their conversation was a bit unusual, especially when it came to Snow.
If there was one thing that she knew about her richer friend for sure, it was that she tended to keep her family as far away from their gaming sessions as possible.
It was something that she was doing so consequently that Ilia wasn't really sure how many siblings her friend really had.
"Yeah, his name's Whitley. Snow invited him to cheer on you during the tournament with us." Jaune said. "Supposedly, it was the first time he ever saw our game mode. He seemed to like it quite a bit too."
Ilia couldn't help but blink a couple of times.
There was a lot of new information that was told to her just now.
"That's nice?" She asked more than stated.
Jaune chuckled a little in response.
"Yeah, it was." The boy said. "By the way, Noir and Blanc were watching the tournament as well."
That didn't come as a surprise to her. In all honesty, it would have been more surprising to her if they didn't watch the event. Jaune's sisters were the ones who made the game in the first place; they would have watched the tournament regardless if she played in it or not.
She would have done it if she was in their place as well.
Still, it meant that in the end her games had been watched by more than twice as many people as she had known for sure would before the tournament.
"Huh, I hadn't expected that I would have such a big audience."
"It's a pity that all our cheering didn't help you win, though." Jaune said. "Sorry about that, Ilia. You must feel quite disappointed right now because of that, especially considering how much you were looking forward to it."
Ilia waved her hand in a dismissive manner, even though she knew that her friend wouldn't be able to see that.
It was true that she had been quite disappointed that she had lost the tournament so thoroughly, but by now she was already over it. The fact that there was a whole celebration of her coronation as the most exceptional player in the tournament in her own cafe helped with that a lot.
"It's alright; I'm just glad that I got nominated as the best player in the end." She said. "Thanks for voting for me, by the way."
Her words were met with a moment of silence.
"What voting?" Jaune asked after a while.
Ilia widened her eyes in surprise.
"Wait, you guys didn't vote for me?" She asked. "Who did you vote for then? Did you really think there was a single player in the tournament that was better than me at anything? Who was it?"
"I don't even know what you're talking about!" Jaune protested.
Ilia snorted.
"Great, I have won the best place in the tournament, and none of my best friends have even supported me in achieving that." She said with fake annoyance in her voice. "I guess I really am the greatest single player there is."
"What are you talking about?! Seriously!" Jaune asked.
Ilia exploded in laughter.
It was moments like these that reminded her why she enjoyed hanging with Jaune during her free time, even if only online. The boy was simply too fun to tease, compared to everyone else she met.
It was almost addicting.
The fact that she knew her friend wouldn't stay annoyed for all that long because of that only made it so much better.
There was no way she would have kept doing things like these if her friend actually stayed mad because of them.
She huffed.
Okay, she had her laugh, but she should probably tell her friend what she was talking about.
It wasn't nice of her to keep her friend in the dark like that.
There was no doubt that it was fun, though.
She let out one final laugh.
After she finally calmed down, she explained to her friend what she meant by saying that she had won the tournament. There wasn't really much to explain, so both of them also visited the site that hosted the vote to confirm the results.
The moment they did that and she saw the actual numbers, however, she couldn't help but back up a little.
What surprised her wasn't the fact that her tournament nickname was placed at the top, since she already knew that she was the one who won the vote. It wasn't the amount of people that voted either; more than a dozen thousand people cast their votes, but that was still only around half the people that actually watched the tournament.
No, the thing that surprised her was the sheer difference in the number of votes that she and the person behind her had gotten.
She had almost twice as many votes as the second place!
"Congratulations, I guess." Jaune said, upon seeing the votes as well.
Ilia smirked.
"Thank you; I wouldn't have done it without you, my friend." She paused for dramatic effect. "Oh wait, I did."
Jaune groaned.
"Yeah, you did." The boy said. "If we had played there with our whole team, we would have won the proper tournament as well. You also wouldn't have had to hide your nickname with something stupid like Chameleon Girl. Why did you choose such a nickname for the tournament, anyway?"
Ilia sighed annoyingly.
"I didn't choose that." She admitted. "It was forced on me by my team."
Jaune let out a quick laugh.
"I guess joining the tournament with a completely unknown team wasn't the best idea on your part, was it?" He said.
Ilia rolled her eyes.
"Whatever, I still managed to get them past the elimination round, didn't I?" She said. "Let's talk about you guys for a moment, okay? What did I miss by going to the tournament? I'm talking aside from Snow introducing her brother, of course."
There were probably quite a lot of things she missed during that conversation.
It was a whole day without her, after all.
"Eh, not much." Jaune said in a tone that gave the impression of a shrug. "We just watched your game and a little bit of the remaining tournament. Oh, we also decided to turn our game mode into a proper game."
Ilia automatically nodded her head before stopping herself, as she quickly processed just what her friend said.
"That's not, 'not much'!" She shouted.
Jaune laughed in response.
"Sorry, I couldn't help myself; it was a perfect opportunity." The boy said in between his laughter before calming down with a deep breath. "Think of it as a revenge for those voting comments you made earlier."
Ilia groaned loudly.
"Explain, now." She demanded.
There was no way she was missing something as important as that.
"Okay." The boy caved in immediately. "In short, after my sister saw the sheer number of people that watched the tournament, they decided to turn the game mode into something quite a bit bigger. As such, they decided to turn it into a proper game."
Ilia nodded her head as she followed the explanation.
"That's quite a big decision to make in the span of a single voice call. Did they decide to do it just like that?" She couldn't help but ask. "That doesn't sound like them at all. I can't see them doing something spontaneous like that."
"You're right." Jaune said, with a slight chuckle. "At first, both my sisters were very sceptical about this. It was only after Whitley had argued in favour of it that they became a bit more open to the idea."
"Really?" Ilia prodded.
Jaune let out a hum and most likely nodded his head.
"He seemed rather interested in the business and management sides of the game, actually." The boy said. "I don't think he would play with us, but I can definitely see him coming on our calls to see how the game progresses."
A wide grin formed on Ilia's face.
It looked like a good occasion to tease her friend again.
"It seems that the winning team will stay one member short for a little bit longer then." She faked a disappointed sigh. "At least he helped us with the future of our game mode, unlike you."
"Hey! I helped with the decision to turn our game mode into a full game as well." Jaune protested. "I was the one who came up with the idea on how to monetise the game. It was such a good idea that both Weiss and Whitley even praised me for it."
Ilia froze the moment she heard her friend's words.
The whole point about her friend helping to formulate the way to monetise the new game they would be making in the future went completely unnoticed by her, as she ignored it almost entirely. It was interesting and new information, but wasn't something she considered important. Instead, she focused on something else; she focused on the names that were used.
A terrible thought entered her mind—one that she sincerely wished couldn't be true.
"Who is Weiss?" She asked stiffly.
"S-Sno-Nevermind, it's not important." Jaune said, his voice frantic. "Just forget I said anything, okay? I shouldn't have said anything right now; it was just a stupid slip of the tongue, nothing more."
A frown appeared on Ilia's face.
There was a silent worry inside her head that was telling her that Jaune's words meant exactly what they suggested, but she didn't want to believe it. It was her best friend she was thinking about—the one person she could trust beyond anything—she didn't want to suspect her of things like that.
She tightened her fists.
If pressing her friend about the issue a little bit harder was going to alleviate her worries, though, then she was going to do just that.
There was no way she would let it go.
"Jaune, please don't hide things from me. Tell me, who is this Weiss?" She said.
"I-I-" Jaune stuttered for a moment. "T-This information really isn't my to share, Ilia. I-I'll call it a day for now, okay? We will hear each other tomorrow; how about we talk about it then? Bye!"
A chime of a person leaving the call immediately followed her friend's words.
"Wait!" Ilia shouted.
It was too late, however, as she was the only person left in the voice chat.
The only thing to keep her company as she digested the bitter revelation was a loud hum of her computer's fans.
There was still a sliver of hope inside of her that the Weiss whose family was responsible for the deaths of her parents wasn't the same Weiss who apparently was her best friend she met online.
There could be more than one person with the same name in Atlas, after all.
She scoffed, abandoning that train of thought.
If Snow really wasn't that Weiss Schnee she was thinking about, then why would both her friends work so hard to keep her identity a secret from her? It just didn't make sense to do something like that if it wasn't the case.
The reaction Jaune had before leaving the voice chat only confirmed that.
Ilia gritted her teeth.
There was no doubt in her mind anymore that her friend was Weiss Schnee, the SDC heiress.
Was all of that friendship just a lie?
For all she knew, all of it could have been nothing more than some sick attempt at finding entertainment by the SDC heiress. The rich girl would talk online to poor people like her and then laugh privately about her misery when she wasn't listening.
The rich people could be cruel like that.
She looked at her friends list on the voice chat app and sighed quietly.
No, it wasn't something like that.
It couldn't have been.
Despite the fact that her friend supposedly lied to her almost the time they knew each other, she still kept spending time with her and helping her as much as she could. Regardless of everything else, Weiss acted like a good friend towards her.
It didn't change the fact that her family was responsible for the deaths of her parents, nor did it give her an excuse for keeping such a secret for so long. She wasn't going to abandon one of her best friends so quickly because of that, though.
There could be an explanation for all of this.
With a resigned expression on her face, she slowly shook her head.
She would talk to Snow—Weiss—the next time they have a gaming session together.
That was the only thing she could do, and she was certain that it would help her solve this issue.
After all, they had a lot of things to talk about.
(...)
The process of making an entirely new game from scratch wasn't easy.
It required adapting everything to a whole new language of programming, creating countless new assets, and basically building everything from the very beginning. None of that was really all that easy, either.
That was why, to make sure their game mode would turn into an incredible game, they needed more people to help them.
Luckily, they had a place to find those people.
The ATGMatches forum wasn't exactly a huge thing yet—it was a single forum for a game mode that wasn't even a separate game at the moment—however, it was full of passionate people that would no doubt volunteer to help with turning their beloved game mode into a proper game.
It was also the main website Whitley used to find people willing to help with the making of the game.
At least, that was what Weiss suspected her brother was using to find those people.
There was surprisingly little time for them to discuss what they were doing in the recent days.
At most they had the time to hold one or two short conversations with each other.
The music lessons she had to attend in the last couple of days were so intense that she didn't even have time to show up for the gaming sessions she had with her friends! There was no way she would have been able to follow the creation of their game as closely as her brother did.
It was so bad that she was pretty sure her brother was meeting her friends more often than she did!
Well, the boy was meeting Noir and Blanc more than she was, at least.
To her absolute surprise, her younger brother and Jaune's older sisters had somehow managed to get along with each other like house on fire.
Despite the difference in their ages, those three found a common topic amongst each other and stuck to it like glue. There was hardly a time Whitley had for himself that he didn't spend on working on their game with Jaune's sisters.
The fact that Noir and Blanc used a personal computer they had received from their school for the job, while her brother connected to them on a Scroll, only helped to make those meetings more common.
Weiss sighed as she walked through her mansion.
How much she wished that she could have connected to her friends just as often?
It would have made her life that much more bearable.
At the very least, she would be able to meet her friends today.
It had been a good couple days since the last time they had their gaming session, and she couldn't wait to change that.
Although it hadn't been easy for her to ensure that she would have an evening to spend with her friends today, it hadn't been impossible either. In fact, she was pretty sure that after she got used to her schedule a little bit more, it would be possible for her to connect to her friends semi-regularly.
There was a chance that she would be able to ensure she would have a free evening every day in the future!
A soft smile appeared on her face.
It would be just like the good old days, before she had been forced into the life of a singer.
That would also be a perfect opportunity to finally tell Chammy who she really was. After her life finally stabilised itself, there wouldn't be any distractions to stop her from telling her friend the truth.
At least, that's what she hoped for.
"Sister!"
The moment she heard that, Weiss stopped and turned around to see her brother hastily walking towards her.
"Yes, brother?" She asked.
It wasn't often that they had a longer conversation with each other nowadays.
Their relationship did improve ever since they had watched the tournament together. Nevertheless, the new responsibilities that had been placed on them prevented them from having conversations with each other all that often.
There must be some important matter to deal with for her brother to approach her out of nowhere like that.
"Have you met with Jaune recently?" Whitley asked, slightly out of breath.
Weiss tilted her head slightly in confusion at her brother's words.
"No, I have not." She said. "There wasn't time for me to connect to my friends recently. In fact, today is going to be the first time I will be able to meet him since the time we've watched the tournament."
The expression on her brother's face slumped a little.
"I see." The boy said with a slight sigh. "I've just talked with Noir, and she told me that he has been acting extremely nervous for the last week. We think there's some issue bothering him lately, but from what I know, he wouldn't say anything to his sisters. I hoped you would know something about it."
Weiss let out a hum.
It seemed that she would have to cover this topic with her friend during their gaming session.
That wasn't exactly what she planned on doing today, but she wasn't going to complain about it. There were matters simply more important than others, and her friends counted among the most important matters she could deal with.
"Thank you for telling me this, Whitley." She said.
"Y-You're welcome." The boy answered. "Will you-?"
Weiss huffed loudly.
"Yes, I will make sure to talk to him about it." She rolled her eyes. "Jaune's one of my closest friends, you know? I would have most likely done that even if you hadn't told me about the issue in the first place."
Whitley smiled.
"That's great; you really care about him, don't you?"
Weiss smirked.
"Of course, I do." She said with a wide smile. "He is one of my best friends, after all."
Whitley sighed in relief.
"Alright, I'll leave it to you, then." The boy said before turning around.
Weiss shook her head slowly as she saw her brother leave.
That boy had known her friends for barely a week, and he was already so worried about them. If she wasn't the one who introduced him to them, she would have assumed that the boy had been friends with them for as long as she had.
A genuine smile made its way onto her face.
It really was a good decision to introduce him to them.
She huffed quietly.
Well, the gaming session had almost started, and she was pretty sure that both her friends were already waiting for her. There was no reason for her to delay that meeting any longer, anymore.
It was time she met her friends again.
The path to her room was quick and without any interruptions. No servant working at the mansion bothered to stop her, and none of the teachers could hold her any longer as she was already finished with all their lessons for the day.
There was nothing to stop her from connecting to her friends.
As soon as she had gotten to her room, she immediately sat in front of her computer, and with a single press of a button, she turned it on.
An almost entirely silent hum of the fans responsible for cooling down her computer spread quietly through her room. Had it not been the only sound present, she wouldn't have heard it at all.
Weiss relaxed into her chair.
It didn't take long for her computer to boot up, but she would rather be comfortable when talking to her friends, especially if she was to talk about a heavy issue that was plaguing Jaune this time around.
There was no way to tell how long such a conversation would take, and she wouldn't want to talk to her friend for an hour while changing her position every couple minutes or so.
She stretched a little.
Although there was no reason to believe that their conversation would even take that long in the first place.
Who knew, maybe she would be able to help her friend in a couple minutes at most instead?
The problem her friend was dealing with didn't have to be something incredibly difficult. There was a high possibility that she would be able to deal with it in a matter of moments, depending on what it was.
A confident smile appeared on her face.
It was probably something related to his training, anyway.
She had this.
With the confidence she felt in herself not diminishing for even a single moment, she opened the voice chat.
The moment she did that, she saw that both of her friends were already on the call.
Without wasting any more time, she instantly clicked on the call to join the conversation; her friends have waited for her long enough, already.
"Hello there, everyone." She greeted.
"H-Hey." Jaune greeted back nervously.
Weiss widened her eyes a little.
Her brother wasn't kidding when he said that Jaune was nervous earlier. Her friend sounded so bad that it was no wonder his sisters had reacted. He didn't sound so nervous even when he found out her identity after the concert.
Immediately she began to frown.
Did something serious happen when she couldn't meet them?
It could have.
"Is everything alright, Jaune?" She asked, her voice filled with worry.
"What? Y-Yes, of course it is." Jaune said with surprise.
A loud cough—one that was clearly fake and made solely to gather attention—resounded through the call.
Weiss shook a little at the sudden interruption.
Of course! Chammy was here as well; there was no way she was in the call and didn't notice that something was bothering Jaune. It was only a moment since Weiss joined the call, but her friends most likely were in it for much longer.
They must have talked about it already!
"Hello, Snow." Chammy said in a serious tone.
Weiss couldn't help but instantly become tense in response to the tone her friend used; worries and doubt started to flood her mind as she began to wonder what exactly had happened when she was unavailable.
Was the situation really that serious?
"Y-Yes, hello." She answered back. "Is something wrong?"
Chammy sighed.
"Alright, I guess there's no point in delaying it any longer." The girl murmured.
Weiss raised one of her eyebrows in confusion at her friend's words.
What was her friend talking about?
Her confusion, however, was soon resolved as her friend decided to answer her unasked question in a direct manner and without wasting any time. There weren't any long explanations given, nor were there any narratives told explaining what had happened.
There was only one question asked.
"Snow, are you the Weiss Schnee?"
Silence was the only thing that answered that question as Weiss sat in her chair, shocked and frozen, unable to say anything.
The only noise present was a near-silent hum of the computer fans responsible for cooling the only machine she was using to connect to the call.
In the aftermath of the question, that noise was almost deafening.
She gulped.
Out of all the things she expected to talk about when she sat down in front of her computer, her identity wasn't one of them.
At most, she could only hope the upcoming conversation wasn't going to end up in a disaster.
And cut!
The big reveal! I wonder how the conversation dealing with all of that will go.
Well, that's it for now, so we will see it ib the next chapter.
Anyway, that's it for now, se yaa.
