Chapter 7: A Favor
'POP'
A glass bottle should've broken but the bullet missed by a smidge making a fool of Marcas, it was still mocking him with the moonlight glaring off. "Missed by a mile" Darius said with a condescending snarkiness. Mascas tried shooting it again and missed again "wow your old man was right" Jared insulted. He had enough ammo for just two more shots, and then he found it. He aimed at a baby raccoon and shot both… missing both times.
Both Darius and Jared sarcastically clapped at his expense "thank you, thank you, go fuck yourselves" Marcas said as they kept laughing. He grabbed his skateboard and went out of the woods, he had to sneak the gun back into his fathers store before morning. He looked at the gun in his hand "piece of junk, if I ever see that bitch again I'll-"
"You'll what?" Marcas turned to see that old brunette that was helping Cooper and stole his gun, she was just leaning next to the store's backdoor
Marcas pointed the gun at her "you made a mistake coming here"
"That gun is empty"
"No it's not"
"Ok shoot me, save us all the trouble" Stephanie challenged
Marcas refused to look like a fool "well I ain't gonna shoot a woman-"
Stephanie snatched the gun, aimed it at his crotch and pulled the trigger to no effect. She didn't have any witty remarks, she just looked at him like he was an idiot. "Look I don't care if your sexist or just another sociopath, I just wanted to make an offer"
"What do you mean, like money?" Marcas asked
"I could but money's pretty worthless when compared to say… experience" She said with a wicked smile
"Just tell me the offer"
"It comes with revenge on the Coopers"
Georgie lifted his head off the garage bed and was torn between wanting to check on Cece and wanting breakfast. Breakfast.
He went and sat at the table and poured a delicious bowl of Reese's Puffs and read the tabloids. Missy walked in and joined him. "You think there's any actual Reese's Cups involved when making this or is it all just a gimmick?" Missy asked
"Well it sure tastes like it" Georgie stated
"Yeah but when you look on the inside it just looks like regular cereal" Missy pointed out
"Huh it does' ' Georgie realized. A moment latter Sheldon came in carrying a suit in plastic wrap "Hey Sheldon you're smart sometimes, are actual Reese's cups in Reese's puffs"
"What's the suit for?" Missy asked
"One, no they're mostly corn based with only peanut butter and chocolate flavoring. Two, I'm supposed to go to that big college speech tonight"
"Oh" Missy said with concern "she won't be there?"
"No she won't" Sheldon specified
"And are these people her friends?"
"Acquaintances I think and it's a restaurant so they'll be other people around, and mom will be there"
"Ok sounds fine" Missy said as Sheldon left to brush his teeth
Georgie chuckled "you are so awesome"
"What?" Missy asked
"He's falling for everything your saying" Georgie said not knowing Sheldon could hear him a little before shutting the door "it's pretty funny"
"I'm being serious" Missy said, a little insulted
"Alright don't trust me" Georgie belittled as he kept reading the tabloids
"You've gotta be kidding me" Missy rolled her eyes
Georgie sighed "so you actually believe that, you don't think you were just overreacting that night"
"Hey I'm usually right about these things" Missy asserted
"You thought Pastor Rob was into you, I wouldn't say you're an expert on this stuff" Georgie pointed out "look she really stuck her neck out for me against Marcas and she doesn't seem that crazy, I doubt she's wants ta sleep with our brother"
Missy sighed and continued to eat her breakfast
BANG BANG BANG
The sound of what felt like Vikings smashed against the door echoed through the house. Georgie got out of his chair and opened the door to find Brenda Sparks about to explode "where is your mother" she bluntly said
"Ugh asleep" Georgie said, his blood still with fear
Brenda looked behind him and saw Mary asleep face down on the couch "MARY GET UP! NOW!"
This finally woke Mary up as she clutched her hung over head only to see Brenda forcing her off the couch and out of her own door.
There were officers still investigating her vandalized house " we still haven't found… Hey, HEY WHAT ARE YOU DOING" the cop said seeing her drag Mary towards the house
"I KNOW YOU HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH THIS" Brenda said throwing her to the house "I WAS AN IDIOT FOR EVER FEELING SORRY FOR YOU"
Georgie, Missy, and Sheldon all ran out to see what was going on "The hell you think your doing" Georgie asserted, pretending not to be afraid anymore
"HEY" George Sr. said coming outside in his pajamas "What do you think your doing"
"Bobbie told me what she heard, your mother spray painted My House, And FUCKING SUFFICATED MY CHICKENS!" she said kicking Mary infuriating all the kids
"You'd better get away from our mom or…those police will arrest you" Sheldon kinda asserted
George looked Brenda in the eye "my wife couldn't have done it, she was with me at the bar last night and I don't recall her doing your lawn work" George said trying to be as convincing a liar as possible
Throughout this Mary was silent and holding her breath in fear afraid that she'd either get arrested or killed by Brenda before she could be.
The police captain intervened and pushed Brenda back "three times I said now, we didn't find any evidence for this, what we did find evidence for is that you let yourself into a neighbor's house and forced her outside, you're lucky I'm leaving it at that" the cop said separating them
"SHE-"
"YOU HEARD THE MAN GET OFF OUR MOM" Georgie asserted
Brenda backed off "well their still the matter of all this-"
Mom, Dad, and Brenda ended up talking for like twenty minutes. Missy was gonna watch some new sitcom called Friends (no way that lasts more than 1 season) but honestly this argument was really entertaining. Mom was guilty, she wasn't even doing a decent job to hide it. Now she needed to practice her facial expressions if she needed to lie in front of a jury.
"Hey Missy" Billy said walking up to her
"Hey"
"You actually think your mom could've done this" Billy probed looking at the damage
"No way, she's not cool enough to do something like this" she lied pretty well
"Yeah I can't really see her doing this" Billy said sitting next to her "you seen Sheldon around, I told him I'd help him practice his presentation"
"He's out back" Missy said as Billy went out looking for him
Billy went through the Cooper's back yard gate and found Sheldon looking through the grass with a flashlight "hey Sheldon whaddya doin"
"Checking my burglar traps" Sheldon explained "if someone framed my mom these should narrow the list"
"You have robber traps?"
"Of course I have valuable comics and trains in here," Sheldon explained before he noticed one "AHA" he cheered as he picked up one of his trap that just looked like some plato stuck to a piece of wood, Sheldon turned it toward Billy to reveal a footprint in it "if I'm correct the vandal wears Converse Chuck Taylor all Star Hi Women's Sneakers, size 6" Sheldon said as he brought the trap and his shoe identification manual inside the house.
"So your mom's innocent?"
"Yeah she's a size 9"
"So anyway I'm free to hear your-" Billy was cut off by his mom and entering the house, that would have been the end of it except they immediately started screaming bloody murder at each other without shutting the door, it got so bad that neither of them would dare ask them to shut it
"You know I think I should leave, sorry Sheldon" Billy said not wanting to hear the arguing
"Don't worry, it's fine," Sheldon said. A rock was suddenly chucked at his head shocking both him and Billy, they both looked to the side to see an angry 11 year old girl
"Hey freak, your mom's a bitch for this"
"Bobbie you're not helping" Billy said gesturing to the rock she threw and helping Sheldon up
"Traitor"
"Just go watch cartoons" he said sending her away
Missy approached and sighed at the commotion "You guys want to go to the mall" Missy offered to get away from all the yelling and rock throwing
"No, I still have to work on my speech"
"Ok good luck Sheldon" Billy said before him and Missy left
Sheldon continued to proofread his speech as the three 'adults' kept fighting
"Ok I'll see you then" Brenda growled
"Yes we will" Mary said trying to sound innocent while technically not lying
George stood by Mary and walked into the house "I can't believe Brenda thinks-"
Mary shut the door "I'M GOING TO JAIL!"
George was shaken back "wha-whatya mean a I'm sure a lawyer could prove your innocent" Mary scrunched her face and teared up "Why the hell would you do that" George almost yelled but kept his voice down
"I'm so sorry, I was really drunk and all that was going through my mind was how mad I was at her for… you know"
George froze in place "oh I'm not mad you did it… I'm mad you didn't do mor- I can't go through with that WHAT WERE YA THINKING"
"I know I know, I have no excuse… Oh what am I doing I have to turn myself-"
"NO" George exploded "we have three kids and not enough income, you are not getting yourself arrested" he took a deep breath "you were drunk and not in control of your actions, so… technically it wasn't your fault"
Mary gulped "you're right, you're right" she said refusing to admit to herself it was a lie.
George calmed himself down as best he could "alright, we're gonna go down to the police station like we said, I'm gonna elaborate on the story I told, and we're gonna keep you out of trouble"
There was a knock at the door startling them "who is it"
"It's me" Sheldon's voice said
"Come in" George said as Sheldon came in with some hot cocoa
"I thought it would make you feel better" he said offering the cocoa to his mother "You're not injured right?"
"No no I'll be fine Shelly"
"Good, I presume Meemaw will be driving me because of this misunderstanding"
"...HUH, oh tonight's your presentation I'm so sorry" Mary apologized
"It's not your fault"
Mary gulped and nodded "I will talk to your Meemaw and ask if she'll take you" she said quickly before leaving
Mary left the house biting her nails to her Mom's house across the street until she noticed a dark blue Acura and frantically hailed it over "you can't be here, Brenda suspects I did it"
"What!" Steph said horrified
"Don't worry, she didn't mention your name so I think your safe" Mary assured
"I feel awful, I was an idiot to accept that drink last night" she said without sounding too accusatorial
"Oh man I'm so sorry I got you into this"
"Hey don't be sorry, we'll get you out of this" Steph said giving her a hug "wait doesn't your mom own a gambling room"
"Ugh does everyone know about that"
"Literally everyone- anyway if she's able to keep that then she has to pay off police, if she does that then she can get them to make up some fake reports of hoodlums in the area last night" Steph said with ingenious foresight "especially if she has some evidence of them accepting bribes"
Mary raised her eyebrows "that might work"
"Just have Connie be the one to ask, with all do respect she's more… intimidating" Steph carefully said
"...Are you saying I'm not intimidating" Mary said causing Steph to nervously back off "I'm just messing with you" she said smiling
"Woah, you sure scared me" Steph said in a joking way
Mary took a deep breath "well I don't think you should get involved, I don't want them questioning you…would you do me a favor"
"Sure"
"Would you please drive Sheldon to his presentation, you know where it is right?"
"Yes I know where it is, I'd be happy too" she kindly said
Mary and Stephenie entered the house and helped her pick out an outfit that made her look innocent. They left the room to find Sheldon with his suit on and notes ready, he was… silently shocked to see her. "Shelly Stephanie just came up with a pretty good idea to keep me out of trouble, I think everything's gonna be ok" she said before going to change
To say the air between them was awkward was the understatement of the day. "So are you finished with your speech?" she said trying to make conversation
"Yes"
Stephanie looked around a sat up straight "Sheldon your mom told me about how you were feeling, and I'm just super sorry that you were uncomfortable that night"
Sheldon looked down with guilt "It's ok" he said "actually I'm also sorry, you've been really nice to my family and now you may have saved both Georgie and my Mom" Stephanie didn't gloat or anything she just nodded "actually I wasn't initially uncomfortable, Missy just pointed out some of your weird attributes"
"Your twin sister?"
"Yes"
"I thought she always played mean pranks on you, you still believe her?" Stephanie said making a decent point
"Well sometimes… it's hard to tell" Sheldon was lost for words
"By the way your mom asked me to take you to your presentation tonight, something about your Meemaw being busy" she said out of nowhere "but I haven't agreed to yet, I said I'd only do it if you were ok with it"
Sheldon was a bit lost for words, a second later his Mom came out dressed up for the police station "alright I think I look good enough, are you two gonna leave soon"
Sheldon took a deep breath "Yeah, I have everything I need" Sheldon said as Stephanie smiled. As they split up, his mom and dad went off to collect Meemaw, while he entered her car and they were off to Houston.
12 miles outside of Houston
"And so the use of slow light could do wonders in both economic and militaristic communications by reducing signal distortion and improving signal quality" Sheldon practiced the verbal part of his presentation for the third time "did that sound alright?" Sheldon asked, desperate to seem confident and hide the pressure of his entire future
"It sounded great" Stephanie praised
"You think I should add more jokes to it, to capitalize on my youthful appearance"
"Course not, these execs can smell a fake a mile away it's what got them their position in the first place, besides you didn't need it to get into East Texas Tech right"
"I suppose not, I just needed my intellect" Sheldon said, he took a moment to regain himself "I guess that… this situation proved that I'm not as invincible as I thought I was, a lot is riding on this and… I might not be good enough"
They pulled to a red light as Stephanie looked toward him "Sheldon no one's invincible, that's a lost cause if that was your goal. However I've seen how great you are this past month and I've heard how much your mom is proud of you for three months, it's ridiculous to think your not good enough" she praised making him feel better "now all you gotta do is go in there and show them everything Sheldon Lee Cooper is" she kindly said with a smile
The next several hours went perfectly, Sheldon confidently delivered his presentation on slow light, even the snobbiest ones seemed impressed. Once he was finished they were already handing him cards and promising to get back to him. He gave Steph a rare but well deserved Sheldon Cooper hug and they started their drive back home.
He did it. He got himself into a pretty major setback when he got expelled but he made it out and he proved he wasn't out of the game yet. Thankfully Steph had pretty comfortable back seat cushions so he could get some sleep on the drive back home.

Sheldon opened his eyes and lifted off a strange bed. Normally when you wake up confused memories slowly start to flood back to you, even faster when you have a photographic memory, but nothing came. There was an eerie moonlit window to his left so he checked an alarm clock and it was 2:30 in the morning. He looked around more and he was in a fairly decently sized room with just his bed and a nightstand. His atone hearing picked up the sound, the sound of a sink. He slowly approached the door to check what was going on. He could kinda smell steam and felt the hairs on his neck stand up, he reached over to check who-
The door flew open.
Sheldon stumbled back as Steph came out after curling her hair and apparently putting on a little makeup "oh good morning Sheldon"
"Good morning, where are we?" Sheldon asked
"Oh I started getting pretty tired while driving and was afraid we might get into an accident" Steph explained "I stopped at this hotel because I'm friends with the owner, thought it was a good place to get a nap"
"Ah, while next time I hope you plan better I do respect your driving safety priorities" Sheldon said "drowsiness is the 6th biggest contributor of car accidents after drugs, alcohol, and impatience"
"Don't forget bad weather" Steph added as Sheldon nodded
"So should we get back on the road" Sheldon said
"Not yet, I saw a really cool science museum next to this place, they've got an exhibit about the super collider, I can call your mom and ask if we can go before finishing the drive"
"That sounds fun" Sheldon said, things were going so well for him right now
There was a moment of silence where even the wind ceased "I'm glad we met Sheldon"
Sheldon was a bit taken aback but leveled himself out "so am I, today was fun" he said looking at the ceiling
"But"
The air became colder as Sheldon looked toward her to see what that was about
"Sheldon I liked helping you and you know if you ever need anything I can happily be there" she offered as Sheldon became slightly more confused "but I was hoping you could do me a favor"
"Sure"
"Oh great" Stephanie said sitting up from the bed and walking towards the closet and taking out a… Present "I had it in my trunk for the big day" she said as she gave it to an excited Sheldon took it
Sheldon carefully unwrapped his gift "Wow I really don't know what to-"
It all started with confusion. Sheldon stared at the box below him, nothing he would have wanted or liked. It was just a transparent brassiere and a small container of pills sitting in the shadow of a nervous child. "I know how scary it can seem the first time but it's fun, the pills are for you, they can help you get larger" she said, making him more and more uncomfortable. Slowly his brain started piecing more of it together than he wanted. "So if this is your first time and you need-" her voice slowly muffled out as his ears started ringing and he felt smaller and smaller. He didn't know if he was still conscious, his heart was beating faster than his breath to keep up. He saw the label on the pills 'sildenafil' that…that was for-
"NO WAY!" Sheldon screamed as he leaped off the bed "I'M NOT HAVING SEX WITH YOU!"
"Huh Sheldon you shouldn't react so hastily" She said chuckling
"I WANT TO GO HOME, RIGHT NOW" Sheldon demanded "YOU'RE DRIVING ME HOME-NO! NO I'M NOT GETTING IN A CAR WITH YOU"
"Sheldon please hear me out" she said nonchalantly
Sheldon shoved her and ran out the room door. He ran as fast as he could down the hall and mutilated the elevator button
"SHELDON!" Stephanie yelled from back down the hall
Sheldon gave up on the elevator and ran to the stairs and sprinted down to the ground floor. THERE, THE DOOR. he saw as he ran to get out of there, he'd run all the way home if he had to- he smashed into the glass before forcing himself against the door handle, it refused to open.
The receptionary was there looking at him run "There's a woman chasing me don't let her out"
"Oh man, don't go I'll call the cops" he said as he ducked under the counter, but wait the phone was right-
The receptionary splashed some stinky liquid into his face, Sheldon ran as well as he could with his limited vision, the world was going darker and darker before he felt the cold of the floor. He pushed himself up before his arms started shaking. He refused to stop pushing himself up until he pressed down to the floor with something pushing on his back. "You need a little more sleep honey" he heard Stephanie's voice before his vision went black.
