Incomplete 5

Isabella Swan had always known she was an incomplete puzzle. When the last pieces finally fell into place, it was much more than she hoped for.

Bella/Zafrina

He stood out of view, not that anyone was around at that time of the night. Everything looked exactly the same, except the tree was completely gone. Would he have climbed it just to see what her bedroom looked like now if it was still there? If he was honest with himself, yes.

God, he'd fucked up epically, he wasn't one for foul language, but no other word would do. It hurt that Bella had made a point to speak to everyone but him. He knew of her emails to Emmett, Esme, and Rosalie. Rosalie, the one vampire that hated Bella on sight. Maybe not hate, but she certainly hadn't liked her. The one vampire that advocated for Bella's death when he saved her from Tyler's van. Yet, Rosalie is one of three receiving emails from Bella, and that rankled.

Except for Jasper, who was dealing with his own guilt, the rest despised him. Despise was too strong a word where Carlisle was concerned. No, Carlisle was disappointed and angry because Esme desperately missed Bella, which showed. Esme's thoughts towards him were less than pleasant. He knew Bella would do more than reply to their emails if he weren't around. No, Bella would call often, invite them to visit her, or meet her somewhere on her travels. But that wouldn't happen with him there, so Esme wanted him gone. Bella had made it clear while he was still around, she'd keep the rest at a distance. Except, he had no intention of leaving; why should he? He was the one to fall in love with her. He was the one wishing she had turned out to be his mate. He was in pain from her absence, granted it was a pain he'd caused himself. Still, he didn't deserve Esme constantly wishing and praying he would leave like he did the first time.

He'd run the first time because he could not handle the pain and misery his decision had caused, but what good did it do? Alice's incomplete vision had him running to the Volturi, only for that decision to reveal the truth. Bella was not his mate, no matter how much he wished it so.

He missed his family; they were there with him under the same roof, yet they might just as well be strangers. Emmett, ever the laid-back, teasing, and often crude brother, was now sullen, withdrawn, and incandescent with rage. He was meticulously planning Edward's demise. The only reason he hadn't executed his plan was because of Carlisle. Emmett believed he had to disable Carlisle to get the job done, and that just wasn't his brother. Jasper, on the other hand, would have no qualms about it; Carlisle would quickly lose his head if he interfered.

Emmett didn't have to worry about the rest; they all wanted him gone. He missed the brother he knew, always making jokes at his expense. He'd hated the jokes, now though; he'd give anything to hear one of his crude remarks.

Alice, God, if she ever found out he had used her heartfelt desire to befriend Bella for his own gain, Emmett's plans would succeed. Jasper would do anything for Alice, even helping Emmett end his existence. He'd gone from being her favorite sibling to the one thing she loathed the most. At least Esme, Emmett, and Rosalie had something to cling to. Alice had been wholly cut off from Bella's life, and it was destroying her. That was eating away at Jasper; he knew why Alice voted to leave.

Bella hadn't minded them leaving; it was the manner in which they left. A decision for which he held the sole blame. Alice would never forgive him; she'd made that clear. Every thought of Bella was followed by vivid images of his ripped-apart body.

He was grateful for the call from Bella; it just may have halted Emmett's plans to kill him. She'd asked for help and information on a CIA and DEA agent, Fredericks and Anderson. Had promised to call back in three days, as she was going on an adventure. She clearly wasn't alone where she was, they'd heard the voice, but no one had asked. When the call ended, the mood in the woods had Jasper vibrating with happiness. An emotion that did not reach him. He'd known from the moment Aro asked if she wanted to join the guard; it was over, but he still held out hope.

He knew they all breathed a sigh of relief when he left to hunt. Carlisle evidently wanted to handle Bella's package without a telepath present. Emmett wanted to look up those agents in the same manner, no telepaths. Edward Cullen was not wanted around, and it was a devastating realization. Despite that, he'd be there when she called back; what the others wanted mattered little to him. He made a mistake, but to turn on him the way they had hurt.

Going into town wasn't an undertaking to be taken lightly if you were in Bella's position. But it's not so daunting when that trip is taken with a vampire who can create the illusion of not being there. Of course, Bella had to remember not to talk to said vampire; at least she appeared weird for talking to herself. Spying on the agents had made it clear they were still looking for her. A check on her passport showed she hadn't left the country.

They'd spent nearly an hour at the internet cafe. Bella corresponded with a few editors and handed in her last-ever articles. She might one day return to it, but it would not be anytime soon. She knew she was pushing her luck when she decided to stop at MacDonald's for a Big Mac meal. It took everything in her not to crack up laughing at the look on Zafrina's face. The place must have smelled awful to the vampire. "That does not smell very healthy, Bella." Zafrina actually looked concerned.

"It's not the healthiest of food, but having one every now and again isn't going to kill me," Bella muttered, her lips barely moving.

In truth, she never being or felt healthier with the food she'd been eating. She'd effectively become a fruitarian of some sort. She was sure the burger would do a number on her, but she didn't care. Having human needs in the rainforest hadn't been as disconcerting as she expected. There were several flooded fluvial valleys and waterfalls to make use of. So far, she'd used a small fall that did not pose a real danger to her. Zafrina had promised to take her exploring starting tomorrow morning. They'd be back in a few days, as she promised to call Emmett back then.

She will admit she felt a little shitty for only calling him when she needed help. She hadn't even called him when she received the phone, laptop, and solar charging pack, neatly and efficiently packed in a custom-made case. A case she knew Rosalie had fabricated and Esme had covered in leather, with her name beautifully debossed in the leather. It was, she would admit, very thoughtfully designed. All she had to do was open it, and the solar pack would be set up and ready to receive the sun. She simply emailed to thank him, mainly because Charlie received a similar phone so they could keep in touch. She knew the Cullens also had one, hoping she would call.

Right after Fredericks was dealt with, Zafrina would turn Bella, and Edward Cullen could eat rocks for all she cared. He would not be able to find them even if she had a homing beacon attached to her forehead.

"Ready to go back?" Zafrina asked, looking amused as Bella was clearly now sucking on air. Her milkshake had sadly run out.

"Yeah, you will have to run slower than you've ever run; we do not need my food making an appearance.

"I have no intention of running with you." Zafrina's smirk was damn right sexy. "We will walk until your food is safe in your stomach.

"I don't mind," Bella grumbled. Really, she did; she was too full to walk. She should have had a small meal; the large meal was, in reality, far too large.

"Before Kachiri changed us, she explained we could no longer eat food, among other explanations." Zafrina laughed. "Years later, I thought, how do we know we can't eat it if we've never tried." Bella started chuckling, knowing what was coming. "Yes, it was a long and horrifying day, made even worse by Senna and Kachiri's obvious amusement." She added.

"I wanted to ask about that. If venom burns everything, why does it not simply do that to do the food? The venom has replaced the acid in your stomach, so why does it not do that?"

"That is a good question; I do not know the answer. You should ask Marcus." Zafrina added.

"Blood doesn't break down." She thought out loud. "If it broke down, it would defeat the purpose of ingesting it. I don't think we have venom in our stomachs; our body slowly absorbs blood over time. I believe it's why we can go for weeks without feeding. Imagine if all that coconut water sat in your stomach for weeks with your body ingesting it as needed until you run out."

"I wouldn't need to eat in that time," Bella murmured thoughtfully. "It would actually be great if the human body did that. Then again, I'm sure Carlisle will tell me why it's a bad idea."

"You should still ask Marcus or Carlisle; I'm sure they'll have a more detailed answer. I'm just thinking out loud." Zafrina advised.

Bella wasn't quite sure what woke her. "When you take without asking, it is theft," Zafrina growled.

"Bella has no problem with it, so why do you." Senna bit back.

"You were stealing communication devices for years; go and steal another and use it."

"It's called a phone." Senna snarked.

"I don't care what it's called." Zafrina looked on the verge of ripping Senna apart. Bella slowly got out of bed and reluctantly made her way out.

"Hello, Bella," Kachiri greeted, looking rather amused.

"Hey, shouldn't you intervene?" She asked.

"No, if anyone can stop this, it's you." Kachiri gave her a knowing look, earning a blush from Bella.

"Senna," Bella called out. "Zafrina does have a point…"

"Why do I feel like you hated saying that." Zafrina turned her glare on Bella.

"My beautiful sleep was disturbed by you two squabbling." It was a terrible deflection, but one nonetheless.

"Do what you do best and steal a phone. When we go into town, I will get you all the games you want." Bella offered.

"You mean you could have done that this entire time?" Zafrina looked murderous. Bella's heart rate shot up. All three knew it had nothing to do with fear because they could only smell Bella's arousal. That actually stumped her mate.

"Yes, she could have, but didn't because your mate loves nothing more than to see your ferocity." Kachiri laughed, and Senna stared at Bella in awe.

"Did you just rat me out?" Bella looked truly scandalized.

"If it means she told me why you didn't put an end to this, then yes," Zafrina said, her frown still in place. "Great, now I can't be angry; it will just make you happy." She huffed, walking away.

"I can pretend to be contrite if you want," Bella shouted after her.

"Come, Senna, I will help you steal a phone. Might steal one for myself. Those games are fun." Kachiri whispered. Left alone with her mate, Bella wouldn't let the alone time go to waste.

"Zafrina, baby… darling, come on… I'm only human." Neither Kachiri nor Senna could keep a straight face as Bella tried to placate her mate.

Bella knew where to find her vampire, the roof. The Bella before Edward, the Bella he'd tried to destroy to satisfy that savior complex of his, would be talking to her vampire from below, unable to climb to her.

Bella, after Edward, had upper body strength she never thought possible. So, with that upper body strength, she climbed onto the treehouse's roof.

Zafrina, as expected, was sat on the roof's edge, feet dangling over the side. "How angry are you?" Bella murmured into her vampire's neck.

"I don't think it is a possibility." Zafrina turned, kissing Bella softly. "Having you here has been the best time of my existence." She added, a radiant smile gracing her features.

Bella shifted around until she was straddling the vampire. Having heard stories from Charlie and Bell herself about how clumsy she was, she tightly held on to her human.

"It has been the best time of my life too. I didn't know what to expect when I found you, but you have surpassed every dream. I love you, Zafrina." The vampire's smile nearly split her face.

"I love you too, Isabella."

"Hearing my name has never sounded so good," Bella mumbled, her face buried in her vampire's neck. Something Zafrina noted she loved to do.

"I promised you an adventure." Zafrina slipped her hand under Bella's shirt.

"Oh." Bella moaned.

"Behave." Zafrina chided. "Come on, bring your light. You will have food there." Was all the information Zafrina would give her.

"That's it." Bella groused.

"Yes." With ease, she lifted Bella off her, who started pouting. "I will hunt quickly first." She kissed Bella swiftly, who grumbled much to her vampire's merriment.

Bella lay in bed with nothing to do until Zafrina returned from her hunt. Although she preferred the roof, she avoided it when the coven wasn't around. She'd forgotten entirely about airplanes, mostly tour planes, but planes all the same. The vampires could hear it long before it came into view, and with everything covered in leaves, good luck seeing anything out of the ordinary.

Her phone rang, surprising her. Usually, she called others, mainly her dad, Jake, and Emmett, the previous evening. "Dad, this is a surprise." She cheered.

"Hey, Bells." She sat up then. She knew him well and knew when something was wrong. "He didn't do anything and didn't even come close to the house." She shut her eyes, praying it wasn't who she thought it was. "And the tree is completely gone." He added brightly.

"Did he speak to you?"

"No, I didn't know he was here until Jake visited. Now that I know the truth, he turns up as his wolf and changes in the woods across the street. He came in complaining about smelling that asshole leech. I checked the camera, and there he was. Stood there for hours, just staring at the house." Charlie mumbled.

"You've got cameras?" Bella asked, surprised.

"Yes, I just learned the world isn't just made up of things I can shoot, so I got cameras. Considering they make a huge thing about keeping their world a secret. Having something that would give them pause would be a good idea. I know it wouldn't stop any of them if they came after me, but it's something."

"Actually, that's a good idea," Bella said thoughtfully. "I called them. Well, I called Emmett, but they were all there." She admitted. "I spoke to all of them except for him."

Charlie was quiet for a little too long. "Even Alice." Bella laughed. It was no secret Charlie loved Alice; yes, he'd been deeply hurt by her actions, but he was quick to forgive, not that Alice knew that.

"Yes, I spoke to her too. Let's just say I understand her a lot more now." Bella uttered. "I'd choose Zafrina over anyone. What I feel for her… there is no comparison, Dad." She whispered.

"I understand, Bells. Having read what you went through, and worse, not knowing. Trust me, had I known before you found her, I would have kicked you out the door myself because I certainly wasn't going to let you sit around here waiting for the answer to find you. So glad you dared to take the initiative, kid." He praised.

"Thanks, Dad." Bella cleared her throat. "You can call Alice; I know their number was in the phone they gave you. I know you haven't out of respect for me, but as I said, I get it now."

"Will do." She could hear the elation in his voice. "Anyway, I thought I'd let you know."

"Honestly, unless he causes you any problems, I truly do not care to know about Edward Cullen."

"Fair enough. Take care, Bells, and say hello to Zafrina for me. Oh, and Senna and Kachiri."

"WHAT!" But he'd already ended the call.

Before she could call him back, the culprits in question had arrived. "My dad says hello." They heard it already.

"He called. You were asleep, and we had your phone, and we've never spoken on a phone, so we talked to him and the wolf." Kachiri elbowed Senna for revealing too much information. Bella did not know about Jake.

"My father isn't asking me to say hello to you after one phone call." Bella stepped forward threateningly. It took everything in her not to laugh when the vampires stepped back, as if she stood a chance against them.

"He asked about you?" Kachiri attempt to placate

"Oh, ratting me out is clearly a thing for you." Bella whaled.

"What is going on?" Zafrina asked, having heard part of the conversation.

"They've been telling my dad everything." Bella groused.

"Well, not everything." Senna started only to earn another elbow to the ribs.

"Yes, because you haven't had the chance yet," Bella mumbled, arms crossed.

Are you ready to go?" Zafrina asked, seemingly ignoring her coven mates' actions.

"Is that all you have to say!" Bella exclaimed.

"What else would you like me to say? That I warned…"

"Nope, don't finish that sentence." Bella jumped in. "I'm ready to go." She glared at the other two as Zafrina picked her up and jumped. She wasn't angry, but if she didn't pretend to be at least a little bit put out, Charlie would get a blow-by-blow account of her life. He sure as hell didn't need to hear about her sex life or feeding habits when she became a vampire, and those two would tell that and more. These vampires had zero social skills and were horrible in regard to appropriate conversation to have. She'd quickly gotten used to it, especially the morning Senna asked her about sex with Zafrina. Bella had never looked so red in her life.

"WHAT THE FUCK!" Emmett roared.

"What?" Rosalie asked. They all knew Emmett had been looking into the agents.

"Nothing I can't talk about if Bells want to tell us; that's her decision." God, he was grateful Edward wasn't around; his mind was spinning.

"Whatever is on your mind, you better cover it up; Edward is on his way…" Alice suddenly stopped and squealed. Jasper did not get the chance to ask when Emmett's phone rang. "It's for me." She snatched the phone before Emmett could get to it. "Hi, Charlie."

"Alice, how are you? I wanted to call you and thank you for the phone, but… well, you know." Charlie muttered sheepishly.

"I know, and I am so sorry." Alice entreated.

"Alice, it might be difficult for us mere mortals to understand finding your mate," The silence following that statement amused Charlie greatly. "You were always going to pick Jasper; it's understandable." Again, silence. Carlisle had, at this point, abandoned the office he'd been holed up in for the past two days.

"You know." It was all Alice could think to say.

"Oh, you mean the V word. Jake turning into a horse-sized wolf gave it away, so yeah, I know." He was enjoying himself far too much.

"Why would he phase in front of you?" Carlisle asked.

"I can't answer that right now." Those words answered the question for Carlisle. After reading and rereading Bella's pages, he knew what was happening. This confirmed his suspicions. Bella did not want to lose her father and made sure he found out somehow. "Oh, tell Edwin he's not as sneaky as he thinks he is and to stay away from my house. He is not welcome, not after the shit he said to Bella. That asshole tried to destroy my daughter and, thankfully, failed. He is not getting a second chance." Charlie's rage was not one they'd ever heard or seen. No one got a chance to comment, as Alice warned that Edward was in hearing range.

"Cha…"

Alice shook her head. "Edward owes the apology, and he's here," Alice muttered gleefully.

Seconds later, Edward made an appearance, having heard Alice. "Charlie…"

"IT'S CHIEF SWAN TO YOU." Charlie roared. "What the fuck were you doing, sulking in the woods watching my house. Yes, boy, I saw you."

"Honestly, I just found myself there; I didn't mean to make you…."

"You do not have an honest bone in your body, so don't give me that shit. Stay the fuck away from me and mine. Is that understood?"

"Yes, sir."

"Alice, wonderful as always. Call me soon; you have my number." With that, the call ended.

"Funny how the man knows you are probably decades older than him and still manages to call you boy with the greatest of convictions." Alice snarked. Edward's head snapped from face to face, unfortunately getting nothing in return.

The last two days with Zafrina made it easy to forget that she had two agents actively searching for her. She had yet to go to bed, but her sleep could wait, as she called Emmett.

"Jesus, Bells… honestly, you should change your middle name from Marie to Trouble," Emmett complained.

"Hey, I didn't do anything; I was minding my own business; maybe I was a little… why." She settled for instead.

"Those two are looking for you and have now engaged several locals. You were spotted in Mcdonald's." Emmett groused.

"Em, I need what you have to get Fredericks off my back." Bella pleaded.

"Fredericks isn't your problem, Bells; it's Anderson," Emmett groused, exasperated.
