Incomplete 6

Isabella Swan had always known she was an incomplete puzzle. When the last pieces finally fell into place, it was much more than she hoped for.

Bella/Zafrina

"What the hell do you mean by he's not the problem? Fredericks threatened to throw me in jail to make me talk," Bella snapped.

"The CIA had an operative undercover in one of the cartels because of chatter that they were supporting a terror group to get access to premium grade poppy seeds. Unfortunately, the agent and others made a drug run through the Amazon rainforest, and that was the last anyone heard of them." Emmett replied.

"Well, shit," Bella whispered.

"So, we fed on someone trying to stop them," Senna whispered sheepishly.

"We couldn't have known." Zafrina defended.

"Let's be honest, would it have changed anything even if we knew," Kachiri asked. "We couldn't have left him alive; we'd be breaking the law, and if what Bella says about them is true, and we know it is. That is the last person we want to know."

"I think that is what he wants. I think they are willing to turn a blind eye to whatever we are." Zafrina surmised.

"Bells, are you listening to me?" Emmett groused.

Sorry," She was paying more attention to the conversation between the three, even though she didn't understand most of it. She got the inclination they understood their mistake in killing the agent.

"The CIA, in truth, does not give a rat's ass about what happened to the drug runners; in fact, the death of those men put an end to the terror funding, as the buyer thought he'd been double-crossed and things didn't end well. They just wish their agent hadn't died in the process. They want to find a way to communicate the names and faces of their agents to the creatures. Fuck it, let's call a spade a spade and say it's the Amazon coven we are talking about." Emmett paused. Bella knew he was waiting for a response. A nod from Kachiri gave her the go-ahead; she was the coven leader, after all.

"Fair enough," Bella said. The silence that descended was stifling, to say the least.

"So, they figured out you knew about us," Emmett said aloud what he'd come to suspect the previous day.

"I took one of those rainforest cruises, and well, I wasn't entirely… okay, not in the least bit afraid when the others realized it had gotten rather quiet and became uncomfortable. I was more interested in finding the vampire." Bella admitted with a shrug, even though Emmett could not see her.

"The fact that the Volturi said you could not be turned does not give you the right to be so stupid. What is wrong with you? Have you learned nothing, you foolish girl?" Edward piped up.

Bella laughed. "Ooh, boy… I wondered how long it would take you to open that mouth of yours and try to belittle me again. What, the first attempt in the forest did not work, so you thought you'd try again." She knew it would shut him up, and it did. She could not see how much his body seemed to fold in on itself at her words.

"Now, can I continue, or have you got more cutting words for me?" Bella snarled, but the growls of the three vampires drowned it out.

"No, please continue." Carlisle injected after several seconds of silence. No one, not a single one, had it in them to make any comments about Bella befriending another coven. Carlisle, though, had surmised it was more than that.

"The guide on the cruise figured it out; I had no idea the information would get to the CIA and DEA." Bella finished.

"Right." Was all Emmett managed.

"Okay, so Fredericks is not the problem," Bella murmured; she'd been sure he was the one she had to worry about.

"In 1974, Enrique and Isaac Correa went missing a week apart during a delivery run to Brazil; they used the Amazon river system. Isaac Correa was married to Ximena Murillo; they had three children a boy and two girls. The boy was eleven when his father disappeared. Ximena disappeared with the kids twelve hours after Enrique's disappearance with the Cartel's money. A week later was a confirmed United States citizen after she sold them out. She married Gabriel Anderson, a bike mechanic who owned a few shops all over Florida. He adopted her kids, and Isaac Correa Junior became Isaac J. Anderson. Who went to Harvard Law and then a year at Dufresne, Aquila, and Associates before he suddenly quit to join the Miami-Dade Police Department. Two years later, he applied to the DEA instead of taking the promotion he earned on the force."

"Let me guess, he didn't just quit the law firm; something triggered it," Bella interjected

"Indeed, Bells. It was the same week that the biggest drug shipment known to man was seized. A large boat hit another boat in the Amazon; it was boarded by police an hour later, who found no one on board but the drugs and a small speck of blood. We can safely say it reminded him of his father and uncle's disappearance." Emmett confirmed.

"It took him a long time to get to the South American desk, and even then, he got nowhere. Then Fredericks got down there; he had no idea what he was looking for. Anderson, somehow found out, told Fredericks some of what the locals knew. He got himself assigned to help Fredericks find the coven. Anderson is looking for revenge, and despite knowing whatever he's looking for isn't human, he doesn't care, which makes him very dangerous, Bells." He warned.

"Is he dirty?" Bella asked, confusing the Amazons. "It means is he working for the Cartels on the side." She explained.

"I've found no evidence of that, but then again, he only seems to ask questions when rumors of men going missing surface," Emmett muttered.

"Okay, so he's not working for them, but he's not doing his job either. Thanks, Bear."

"Whatever you do next, be careful." Emmett pleaded.

"Em, any chance you can make it look like I left the country."

"No, and it wouldn't surprise me if the minute you tried to use your passport, you were detained on bogus charges."

"I figured you'd say something like that." Bella groaned. "I will call you back tomorrow; I must run now." Bella ended the call quickly. She just didn't have it in her for pleasantries. She will call them when she's dealt with Anderson.

"We need drugs," Bella said suddenly.

"Okay," Zafrina said without question.

It had been another long useless day as far as Fredericks was concerned. He just wanted to get to the apartment and get some sleep. He was headed back home in two days, and he could not wait; this entire trip had been a bust. He'd been so close, but the Swan girl had turned out to be far more loyal to whatever those creatures were. The surveillance videos they got from McDonald's had proven to be a dead end. He was beginning to suspect Anderson had his own agenda, and that pissed him off even more.

Fredericks knew something was off the minute he stepped off the elevator. He'd been in the covet business far too long not to know when something felt off. He had his gun drawn the minute he opened his front door.

"That won't be necessary." Even if he disagreed, the gun was gone, and he couldn't tell you how.

He turned on the light to find the Swan girl in his living room. "This would have been so much easier on all of us if we had simply said do not kill our undercover agents." Fredericks's jaw dropped.

"How?"

"I have a friend who is exceptional at finding information; I called him." Bella shrugged.

"Human friend?" Fredericks asked, not expecting an answer.

"I don't actually have any human friends," Bella answered, surprising him. "The only human I care for is my father. I should warn you the next time you decide to use him to get to me; it will be the last thing you do." Bella warned.

"That wasn't my idea." He confessed, knowing she wasn't alone. Something had taken his gun, and that something still had it.

"I thought as much," Bella mumbled. "Now, Agent Fredericks, take a seat. We have a lot to talk about." Bella groused. She wanted this over and done with tonight. In two days, she was becoming a vampire, and nothing was getting in the way of that.

Emmett paced the living room. It had been two days since they last heard from Bella. She'd promised to call back the previous day, and still nothing. Rosalie was worried the girl had gone after Anderson by herself to protect the vampires. Vampires, she suspected, meant more to Bella than she was willing to divulge. After all, this same girl gave herself up to James to save her mother without informing them. Rosalie wished her thoughts hadn't gone down that route, as it was plausible where Bella was concerned. Everyone's thoughts went down similar routes; Bella was somehow incapacitated and could not get to the phone.

Everyone except for Edward. "She didn't bother to call and thank you for the phone you spent weeks working on. Not counting the laptop and solar charging pack or the work Esme and Rosalie did to make it easier for traveling. Bella called because she wanted information only Emmett could get. She has got what she needed from us, and..." He didn't finish his sentence.

Emmett was on him; an arm ripped out before Edward even registered what was happening. The speed and brutality of Emmett's attack took everyone by surprise. So much so no one reacted for a few seconds; in their world, a few seconds was a lot, and the damage to Edward in those few seconds was telling. Nothing had changed regarding him since Bella's phone call; they would never forgive him. Even realizing what was happening, none intervened.

"Someone is going to call, but it's not Bella." Alice damn near screamed.

Emmett had Edward by the neck, nails digging viciously into diamond-hard skin. "Pray nothing has happened to her because if she dies, you die, you inconsequential piece of shit." He dropped Edward unceremoniously, who hit the floor and stayed there.

It was another five minutes before his phone rang. "Hello." Emmett's voice shook with uncertainty.

"As Bella will say, relax." Senna chuckled. "She is fine…" Bella snatched the phone from the vampire, who simply smiled at the irritated human.

"Sorry about that; Senna doesn't get that a mobile phone is a personal item." Bella glared at the vampire.

"No problem, Bells. We thought something had gone wrong with her calling." Emmett's relief was palpable.

"No, I'm perfectly fine. I should start with a thank you. We have an arrangement with the CIA, and Anderson has been dealt with; he will no longer be a problem." Bella looked up and smiled at Zafrina, who had two coconuts prepared for Bella. "Thank you." She whispered, smiling wider at her vampire.

"Glad I could help," Emmett interjected, bringing Bella's attention back to the phone.

Bella was quiet for a long while; truthfully, she struggled to find the right words, which was a feat for a writer. "I never really got to know Carlisle, Jasper, and Rosalie. Alice called me her best friend. Esme, her daughter, and Emmett, you called me your sister. And I never once doubted your words, doubted your love for me. I loved you too, and I felt like I finally belonged. I had found a piece of the puzzle, small, but a piece nonetheless. What you were mattered little to me. It did not factor in the grand scheme of things as far as I was concerned.

When Edward walked me into the woods and attempted to destroy every semblance of self-worth, it did not bother me. I was surprised that he'd mustered the courage to try and utterly destroy me. Ultimately, I did not matter because Edward Cullen meant nothing to me." Bella knew her words would hurt him, but it was the truth. His lies had put him in that position. She wasn't going to let a boy incapable of telling the truth have an iota of influence in her life.

"What surprised and hurt me was that you'd all left without so much as a fuck you. To hear that Alice had left, my best friend had abandoned me at the say-so of her lying, manipulative brother. Yeah, that hurt. Even more so when I learned she voted to leave. The pain of that information didn't hit for months. I spent two days locked in a hotel room and tried to come to terms with it. Esme and Emmett... there was a relief there knowing their words had meant something. That in the end, they fought for me, fought to stay even though their mates had voted to leave." Bella looked up from the phone and smiled. Simply the sight of the coven chatting among themselves put a smile on her face. Zafrina looked up and smiled at her mate.

"Then, due to a series of very fortunate circumstances, I found myself having a great deal of respect for Alice than I thought possible. I finally understood her and why she voted to leave. Jasper wanted to leave, I suspected as much, but my phone call confirmed it. Alice had voted to leave because Jasper had voted to leave. She stood by her mate, and I cannot fault her for that. Were I in your position Alice, I would have done exactly as you did. I am in your position, so believe me when I tell you I understand.

I don't believe I will ever understand your leaving the way you did. It was needlessly cruel, and I will not lie to you and say our relationship will ever be the same. But you will also always be the people that got me closer to finding the missing piece, and for that, I thank you. I'm not going to keep my mate waiting any longer. Again Em, thank you, and I will talk to you soon." Without waiting for a response, Bella ended the call.

"'Under no circumstance is Isabella Swan to be turned into a vampire.' Those were Aro's words." Edward raged. "Carlisle, call Aro. The Amazons have..."

"Have done nothing wrong." Alice piped up, a smile taking over her features. "Despite your insistence on never turning Bella, I kept seeing her as a vampire. It didn't matter what you said; I still saw her as a vampire. You saw that vision; despite your words, that vision seemed to be set in stone. What neither of us ever stopped to consider was that I never saw her with you. Aro made the same mistake; that is why he made that statement. He, you, and I all made the mistake of thinking you were the one to turn Bella." Alice finished. "What Aro truly meant was you could not under any circumstance turn Isabella Swan into a vampire." Alice finished with a gleeful smile. It was also very much a fuck you smile.

"Bella was going to become a vampire, except you were never the one turning her. That honor belonged to her mate. That is what made Bella just like Athenadora. Bella is a rare breed of human born feeling the ache of their missing mate." Carlisle went on to explain what he'd learned from Bella's journals. I believe if Edward or anyone else had tried to turn her, it would have simply killed her. I also suspect it was why you were able to get James' venom out of her. Her body somehow recognized your action and aided you."

"No wonder she didn't even blink after learning the truth about us." Jasper chuckled.

"The feeling of loss was getting worse the older she got. She wanted to ask me about it but never got the chance."

"Well, Eddie boy, it would appear you running to the Volturi to die saved Bella." Rosalie laughed, knowing Edward did not view it in such a light.

"It would not have made any difference," Carlisle smiled. "She was going to see them after she graduated high school." He added.

"No wonder she knew you weren't her mate, despite your continued lies." Esme snarked.

"She also knew her mate would be a woman. Bella was very certain of that." Carlisle added.

Without a word, Edward walked out, clutching his arm to his shoulder. "There is a determination there that worries me." Jasper stood, ready to go after Edward.

"Don't bother; Bella will already be a vampire by the time he gets there... if he ever gets there," Alice said flippantly. Emmett guffawed at the thought of Edward finding a newborn Bella. She'd more than likely finish the job he'd started.

Alice giggled, coming out of her vision. "Even if it took Bella a year to become a vampire, he would still not be able to find them. He is headed in the wrong direction. He will figure that out eventually, course correct, then head in the wrong direction again." They all stared at Alice in disbelief then laughter broke out.

"Why are we surprised? This is the same vampire who ended up in Rio tracking Victoria, who was just down the road in Seattle. There is every likelihood we will see him in Settle tomorrow." Rosalie quipped. Another round of laughter bust fort.

"Are you ready?" Zafrina asked, helping Bella to her feet, who was still staring down at her phone.

"Very," Bella muttered eagerly.

Her breaths came in short bursts, loud and uneven. "Please, please…" she panted, hips buckling, welcoming the rough intrusion into her. Fingers knuckle deep in and out of her. It was slow, deep, and almost painful, but it was precisely what she wanted, what she craved. When she came, it was loud and stole what little breath she had left. A damn good thing, too, because when the bite came, Bella wasn't expecting it. That, unfortunately, familiar burn brought her back to her senses before it stole it again, leaving her with only one unfortunate sense, the ability to feel, and all she felt was fire, unrelenting hot fire, devouring every inch of her.

Zafrina kneeled before her mate; her human would no longer be a human. She smiled down at Bella, who, to her surprise, was not screaming as she'd expected. She wasn't entirely quiet, but the fact that she wasn't screaming amazed Zafrina.

'Don't remember much about my human life.' Bella' had heard that from just about every vampire she'd ever met. She didn't need to remember every aspect of her human life. The truth was, she could discount the first seventeen years of her life. It was a half-life, uneventful in every way, except for the constant feeling of knowing something was missing. Everything after moving to Forks, the small rain-soaked town that had more trees than people, proved to be the highlight of her life. She put all her focus into remembering Forks, Charlie, Jake, The Cullens, her coven, and above all else, her mate. Zafrina takes center stage in her thoughts; she sure as hell wouldn't mind forgetting Senna.

It burns; every inch of her feels it, but she tries not to focus on it. It was not an easy task, but her mind focused on Zafrina repeatedly. Her mate, the vampire that completed her, literally. If Bella could smile, she would be.

"Zafrina, step back." Kachiri muttered, concerned. The rapid heartbeat was something Kachiri recognized well. Bella would soon be waking up. With a great deal of hesitancy, Zafrina stood back.

She stood back, growing increasingly impatient and ridden with nerves, when it suddenly went quiet.
