Chapter 3: Night One
All the lights had shut off instantly as the building entered it's shut down mode. Doors locked, All cameras both inside and out on until 6 AM plus the back up generator being the only source of power we had. The faint light from the moon peeking from one of the windows shined on the stage. The colors from the 3 became much more apparent the dirt, rust and wear n tear from the years of service presented itself to us. Almost ominously.
"Alright go gather the others and head to the office i gotta check something" I turned to Sean who was visibly spooked.
"Make it quick I don't want to go looking for you while those things are active" he turned to gather Daniel and Nicole. I turned to look at the animatronics. The whole stuffing into the suit thing was more so a myth or a fucked up joke by the guard...but on the off chance it was true.
"...then someone tampered with you guys huh?" i whispered to myself. It wasn't out of the realm of possibilities. They had been in the hands of the company for sometime now having who knows who keeping up maintenance on them or at least they're suppose to be. These guys weren't programmed to do things like that. The only odd programming dad had installed in them was us. He made sure if his family was recognized by them they'd enter a sort of protection mode. Vague but those were his words according to my mom. To the extent of this protection mode i have no idea.
I noticed the parts and service room was closed. Not just that it even had a lock on it. I went up to Freddy and noticed a smell from it, like it had been cleaned with bleach and easy off. Another smell was there...like old meat or fish gone bad, it was so unnoticeable i almost missed it.
"Yo you done reminiscing with those things we gotta job to do remember?" Daniel yelled from the hallway to the office. I stepped off the stage and began making my way to the office.
"Plus those things are suppose to be dangerous at night aren't you scared?" I looked at him and shook my head.
"The guard was just messing with you, they aren't supposed to do that. Plus do you think they'd hire high school students for a job that dangerous?" I could tell he was a bit nervous being there. The guards 'advice' didn't help calm his ease either.
"I guess not" He mumbled. We entered the office. Camera control panel overlooking both entrances to the office. There was a black fan on the desk with some pictures of employees and visitors plus some drawings by the kids too. Vents on the bottom right of the office and some chairs for us.
"Pretty spacious for an office" I sat down as Sean and Nicole entered from the left door.
"Finally, didn't think you'd ever get here" Nicole exclaimed as she sat down on the chair next to me. Sean looked at the clock high on the back wall in the office.
"12:09 let's get comfy guys its gonna be a long night" Sean sat on a chair and wheeled up to the camera panel.
"We'll take mini shifts on cams. Each of us will get hour and a half shifts so the work is split evenly amongst us sound good?" We all nodded in agreement.
"Wow look you taking initiative for once" Nicole smirked
"This is not gonna be like our school projects were i gotta do all the work you're gonna pitch in too Nicole" Sean responded eyes on the cameras. She rolled her eyes at me smiling
"He's lying I have to fact and spell correct his stuff all the time" She whispered to me. Daniel was standing out on the barley light hallway. He was looking at the drawings on the wall.
"The hell?" Sean mumbled
"What's up?" he motioned to come to him. I got up and walked over to peek at the screen. It was static.
"This is suppose to be the parts and service room but its not showing shit" Sean flipped to other cams which all worked. Stage, Pirates Cove, Dinner Room, even outside the bathrooms...all but that room.
"kinda makes sense...there was a lock on the door to the room" Sean shook his head trying to make logic of it.
"But why. What if something is in there that i cant see"
"I think thats the point" Nicole walked up next to me.
"Its probably something they don't want us to see. Not like we could even ask the day guard since i doubt he knows either.
"Oh great an ominous room that we have no idea what's in it, not scary at all" Daniel said still looking at the pictures.
"Relax it's just for a week until they can higher a full time night guard" I responded. Nicole's eyes followed me as i went back to my chair.
"Kalen's right its just a short term job. It was a wellness check up" Sean smirked
"Ooo look she's defending her boyfriend again how cute" Nicole slapped him upside the head. Daniel looked over.
"You're so funny Sean get a better joke its getting old" She sat down next to me and went on her phone.
"I get we needed to waste time this summer but if you wanted to check up on them couldn't you have just visited the restaurant" Sean asked
The logic was sound. I'd always wondered how my Dads creations were doing but...i had always hope he'd come back and we could go together just like when i was young. My mom believed something. Something I didn't understand until I was older and now i kinda do.
There was more going on with the company, my dad and his business partner, the disappearances of kids in spin off locations. My older brother knew something too which i believed is why he went missing. Whatever it was it bothered me...but not enough to jeopardize my mothers happiness. As long as she was happy i was happy. Keeping her away from that mess and living a normal life were she could mourn in peace is all i wanted. The new owners of the restaurant are usually here during the days and my mother despised them for monopolizing my fathers creation with no credit. She had threaten to sue multiple times but the outcome and resurfaced truths scared her more. So she left well all alone. As did I. In my eyes its was in the police's hands now.
"He has his reasons I'm sure" Daniel entered the office
"And whatever the reasons are he'll share when he's ready" He nodded at me with a grin. Couldn't tell if was helping me or trying to impress Nicole with his acts of friendship...whatever they were i appreciated it. Sean shrugged and kept his eyes on the camera.
Time passed by with no incident and by the time i looked up it was 5:49 am. We had taken our shifts on cams and i was wrapping up mine. Soon our first day would be over.
"Only 11 more minutes jeez this job is boring" Nicole yawned while stretching.
"Better boring then whatever the day guard described it as. Made it seem like we'd be fighting for our lives." Daniel walked over to me. Sean was passed out in the corner chair head resting on the wall.
"Maybe they'll move last second or something" I looked at the cams again seeing nothing.
"Probably not. Hell i don't even think they move at all. I bet all this button does is play a loud buzzer or something to scare us." I said. Daniel nodded in agreement.
"Well should we push just for shits n giggles" Nicole asked. She had her mischievous smile walking towards us.
"Plus we could totally get back at Sean for all the couple jokes he makes" She leaned and whispered to me. I nervously backed up and smiled. I didn't mind them but i knew Daniel did. He grabbed the button from the desk and pressed it immediately. A loud buzzer then a shock ran out in the distance deafening us for a moment. Sean leaped up slipping and falling back in the chair. My ears rang as i could hear Nicole and Daniel laughing at Sean.
"WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT?!" Nicole holding her stomach and Daniel leaning against the wall laughing not answering him.
"That shit was loud" Daniel said holding his ears.
"You didn't shit yourself right Sean?" Nicole giggled. He glared at them and then at me.
"I leave you all alone for like 10 minutes and it goes to shit" He took the button from Daniel examining it.
"Well it does something at least" I said as we heard the front door open to restaurant in the distance we all got up headed in the direction. The day guard was there messing the power box next to the prize counter.
"Heard that shit from the parking lot everyone ok?" He asked half asleep.
"Yeah we pressed it accidently sorry" I said trying to hide the fact we pressed it out of pure boredom
"Nah I get it. It can be boring sometimes. Plus its a good thing you did" We all looked at him confused
"Sometimes it doesn't work so at least once a day you test run to see if its functional. I do it before my shift starts but yall just saved me the trouble." He closed the power box and headed to the main stage.
"Yep not a single peep from you guys tonight huh" He said to Freddy. The other went outside to wait for our rides. I looked at Fredy. At least i know my dad's creations are safe...even if they're a bit banged up.
"So how was it?" I looked at guard. Armed crossed looking at the trio on stage.
"Quiet but those 3 made it eventful" He smirked...then his face immediately got stern.
"These guys usually don't move around at night to much. They have systems in place for that. If they do you all have to treat the situation seriously, they're unpredictable. You guys are temporary until we can find a full time night guard so hopefully nothing should happen. Despite that keep your head a swivel" He looked at his watch.
"Looks like the morning crew should be here any minute head on outside ill take it from here" I took his warning as advice but why tell me that and not all of us?. I headed on outside and saw my moms care and daniel heading off in his ride. The bright morning sun beaming on my face and the humid wind blowing across the street helped me realize how tired I am.
