edited chapter 21

It was later in the day when the Natsu and Ultear made it back to Magnolia.

Ultear was still clinging to his arm, resting her head on his shoulder.

Natsu glances at her legs and can see a slight limp causing him to have a small grin.

When they made it through the town, Natsu was shaken by the sight of a woman with pink hair.

"What is it?" he pointed to the woman causing her to gap, remembering the woman as Meredy's mom from all those years ago.

"Looks like we get to see Meredy, but what are you gonna do?"

She didn't say anything for a few minutes "as much as it pains me, I'll have to treat her like any other member of the guild."

Using his hand to face her, "that won't be too hard," he kissed her.

That kiss helped wash away her initial doubt. He put his forehead to hers.

"We won't know until we meet her," he said with a smile, looking deeply into her onyx black eye.

They separated when they noticed a few glances, many of them with grins of their own.

Blushes formed on their faces before going into the guild to see it full swing party mode.

The first to notice them was the eldest take-over mage "wondering when you two would be back!" she eyed them up and down, having a good idea what they did while away.

Seeing the look in her eyes, Ultear hiding behind Natsu from her gaze.

They quietly found a booth to themselves, waiting for the party to die down.

Knowing Fairy Tail, that was going to be a while.

Several hours later

The party was finally starting to die down when the person of interest approached them.

"Wait, are you the flame prince I've heard about?" Meredy chirped, standing before them.

"Does this answer your question" he raised his hand with his four flame types forming small flames, one on each finger minus his thumb?

"Nice to finally meet you and Ultear," she chirped.

"Why would that be?" Ultear asked, holding her emotion in check with Meredy, now a member of Fairy tail.

The guild mark was proof enough for them.

"Because I kinda looked up to you as a wizard," she said with a faint blush.

"You wouldn't be the first," he glances and the three young slayers who are holding themselves back as he could tell they wanted to do some training.

"Meredy, if you don't mind, what is your magic?"

"I use lighting magic," lighting dance between her fingers.

"Well, this is a surprise. I assume you need someone to help you control it?"

"Yes, my biggest problem is controlling the output of my spells," she said, rubbing the back of her neck.

"Hmm, I might be able to help you. I use lighting magic but by no means a master at it."

"How are you able to use lightning magic?"

"On a job a while back, we fought a lighting mage, and I did the stupidest thing a Slayer can do and consume a different element. Luckily my body was able to adapt to it. So I can now use lighting magic." sparks started to shoot from his hand.

It was a half-truth as he did face a lighting wizard in this new timeline. It was the perfect opportunity to use his lighting magic. He had to hide from everyone beforehand.

"Guess that means we can train together!"

"Yes, we can, but you have to keep this a secret as only a hand full of members know this," he said in a hushed tone.

"Who?" She whispered

He gave her the small list of names, and the only one not counted was Laxus, as he wanted to surprise him when the time came.

"We can start training?"

"We can start now, but all I can really help you with is how much magic is used in a spell."

"That's more than enough!"

"Ok, then let head out," he waved over Wendy, Sting, and Rogue to join them in training. "Ultear you staying or going?"

"I'll stay here. I have something to do before the festival."

"Ok, then follow me then" he headed for the door with the four young wizards behind him.

While Natsu and his four young students left for the building, Ultear was lost in thought about this situation with Meredy and her mother.

"What am I going to do?" she thought as she gazed at the retreating form of Meredy.

A familiar face approached her. She looked to see the master of fairy tail standing before her.

"Seems something is one your mind Ultear care to explain?"

"Not here. It's to open," she whispered.

"Hmm, is that so then let's go to my office" he lead her to the guild master office with some silencing rune activated.

"So what's on your mind, Ultear? He asked again.

"It concerns Meredy."

Makarov urged her to go on, which she did.

"I see," his hand on his chin in a thinking manner.

"I don't know what to do" she held her head down in shame.

"All I can say is endure it, and who knows, you might be able to take an active role in her life if you wait long enough," he said, smirk causing a smile to form on her face.

"Thanks, master, I needed that" she left his office to see how everyone is doing.

With Natsu

Natsu was currently dodging attack after attack from the three young slayers while Meredy watches in aw.

"SHADOW DRAGON ROAR," the stream of shadow shooting to the elder slayers who smacked it away with his hand before dodging Wendy's talon attack.

"You're getting better," he ducked under what can only be scribed as a laser attack from his side.

"Come, we're so close to getting him," Sting grunts meeting up with his shadow and Sky counterpart.

"What if we combine our attacks on him," Wendy said offhandedly.

"That might do the trick," Rogue chimed in.

"All three of our roar in one might do the trick" this got a nod from the other two.

"SHADOW DRAGON"

"WHITE DRAGON"

"SKY DRAGON"

"ROAR!"

The three say in unison, unleashing their respective roar before merging into one.

Natsu was taken aback for a split second when they called out the spells.

A smirk formed on his face as the three in one breath attack grew closer and closer.

"FIRE DRAGON"

The three looked in shock at the name of his attack.

"ROAR!"

A torrent of flames shot out of his mouth, colliding with the triple breath attack fighting for dominance for a few moments before all dispatched.

"Impressive, you three, and it looks like you are at your limit," he notices the exhaustion on their faces, not including the shaky formes.

"We can keep going," Sting shouts.

Natsu point to his side. He looks to see Wendy collapsing to her knees.

When he sees Rogue, he notices he was barely standing.

"That enough for one day, you three, Meredy, it's your turn now."

"YES!" she says with glee.

"Now, I need you to hit me with everything you go so I can gauge your power."

"Ok," using all her will, she conjured up everything she had and unleashed a massive lightning bolt.

The bolt lightning bolt toward Natsu at an insane speed.

They were expecting him to block or dodge the attack, but they were wrong.

Natsu stood there calmly before taking the direct hit sending him back a step surprising them all.

The collision resulting in a dust cloud,

When the dust finally cleared, Natsu stood there proudly with slightly tattered clothes.

But the surprising thing was the lighting seems to be absorbed by his body.

This was evident by the dancing of lighting around his body.

"Impressive," he rose his and hand, channeling all the lightning he took to his hand.

He points it to a nearby tree unleashing all its fury in a single attack scorching the tree to the point all its leaves were burnt away.

"That enough for today since you're all at your limit."

His statement was evident as Meredy was on her knee from using up all her magic power.

He walks over and picks up wendy holding her bridal style with her head resting on her chest and Sting and Rogue using each other as support.

Meredy grabbed onto Natsu's arm for support as they all made their way back to the guild.

Fairy tail guildhall.

Ultear had more or less processed the whole ordeal with Meredy or as much as she can so far.

After 30 minutes, the guild door opened, revealing Natsu with the three young slayers and Meredy.

Natsu carried Wendy to the infirmary with the other three not far behind them.

They all took a spot on one of the beds so they can rest up for the day.

He found his spot next to Ultear, watching over the guild.

"So when do you want to introduce Ur fully to the guild?"

"I say we wait till after Laxus pulls his stunt."

"That could work, and she could go through freed's runes throwing a monkey wrench in his plans."

"That sounds fun" Ur through in beside them but just out of sight from everyone.

"How much longer until he makes his move?"

"Two days from now."

Mornings

Natsu was the first to wake fully clothed in his pajamas with Ultear to his left side.

He looks down to see an all too familiar mop of blue hair. It was Wendy.

The reason for her being here was simple. She was having nightmares.

The fight before being pinned to the tree in the Magnolia park left a stain on her psyche.

After making a slight movement from getting into a more comfortable position, Wendy unconsciously got close to him,

She ended up snuggling up to his chest, causing him to go red in the face.

Ultear woke up shorty seeing Natsu's predicament. She cuddles up to Wendy, putting her arm over her resting her hand on Natsu's well-built muscles.

This thankfully gave him some relief as the blush faded away.

"Just hope this doesn't become a regular thing," he whispers to his mate.

"It can't be helped. Wendy may be a dragon slayer, but she's still just a child at the end of the day," she murmured to him.

"Guess you're right on that front again. I just hope this doesn't last long. Otherwise, certain individuals will take this the wrong way" Ultear nodded from his response as she came to the same conclusion.

The two went back to sleep, trying to catch as many Z's as possible.

Several hours later.

On the outskirts of Magnolia at Natsu training ground, Ultear and Gray stood alongside Ur to learn feral ice to make magic.

Many questions racing through his head Gray had to ask, Ur, why didn't you teach us before?."

"For starters, even I have a hard time doing this, and second you and Lyon couldn't seriously hurt or kill yourselves if you're not careful."

"Can't argue that, as you said, repercussions would be way above our skill level."

"Good now. Is there any more question before we start?"

"Nothing comes to mind, mother."

"Same for me."

"Good, but I must warn you, Gray. In particular, when you cast feral maker magic, your creation is free from your control."

"What now?"

"She means feral creation can think independently from the maker so someone like Lyon could make great use of it. but someone like you who uses static objects will have a harder time, is this making sense, Gray." Ultear informs.

"Gray to make proper use of this technique. You will have to revamp your arsenal of spells completely, or it will be a waste of your time."

"Understood"

"So, what's next?"

"You have to have an unyielding will so your creation won't turn on you, and yes, that can and will happen if you're not careful."

"What's the first step besides having strong willpower?"

"First, you think and grasp the consciousness of what you want. Second, you have to give it at least twice the magic power you normally use, but that only in the beginning."

The two nodded in response to her statement, letting her continue.

"This next part is only theoretical. Sometimes, SOMETIMES, a feral maker spell can increase its power and life span by consuming its element, in our case ice."

"Really?" They said in unison.

"Again, it's only theoretical, so I have no idea how well it will work in practice" seeing the look in their eyes, she knew they couldn't wait much longer.

"Will start small with basic spells and work our way up to more complicated spells sound good?" They nodded, letting her know they were ready.

"Then let's begin."

Standing in his maker stance, Gray went over Ur's explanation of feral maker magic.

"ICE-MAKE FERAL KNIGHT," he shouts.

In a moment, a tall armor figure with an English broadsword made of pure ice formed kneeling before Gray.

"Very good now, give it a command, and hope he follows orders," Ur chirped.

"Ah ok, a knight, I...want you to cut down that tree," he pointed to the tree in question.

The knight didn't do anything causing the two women to share a concerned look.

But they were in for a surprise as he stood up and cut down the tree with his sword with a relative easel.

"I think I could get used to this," he said offhandedly. But, unfortunately, his choice of words was a huge mistake as the knight charged at him intending to end him.

But alas, his efforts were in vain.

The knight was stopped by a pink spike impaling through its chest.

"This is what I mean by how they could turn on you, and from my perspective, your comments set it off. Next time show some respect to your creation Gray."

"Yes, ma'am," he said before pondering new feral spells and consciousness.

"Now, it's your turn Ultear."

"Just hope I don't mess this up, ICE-MAKE FERAL ROSE KRONE" out of thin air, a massive stem on ice with rose flowers sprung to life.

A few moments later, they took on a life of their own, continued to grow, eventually wrapping around a tree before constricting it to the point the trunk burst like a bomb.

The spell wore off after the tree was destroyed.

Thankfully with some quick thinking, an ice wall was created to protect them from the debris.

"For your first time, you did pretty well, well as good you can since so few maker mages can do feral spells. So tell me, what were you thinking of when you gave them consciousness?"

"I just gave it the mindset to follow my orders," he informed.

"Mine was for it to grow and spread like a real flower."

"I see. It seems you neglected to give it the notion you possessed unyielding strength. If you did, then it wouldn't question you or turned when you gave off the impression you didn't care for its well-being."

Gray simply nodded and made a mental note from Ur's choice of words.

Ur faces her daughter. "Now it's your turn."

"I just gave it the command to grow destroyed anything that gets in its way."

"I can see that," she glances to where a tree once stood "next time, you have to be very specific since your maker magic is vegetation. Like with Gray, you have to place a limit on what it can do, or that will happen again."

She again points to the pile of woodchips that used to be a tree "you got lucky it was a Tree this time as next time it could be an ally in the heat of battle," she said in a severe tone.

"Understood, mother."

"Good, now get back to training as Gray has come up with a new spell" they look to Gray.

His new spell was a presumably feral shuriken.

The star in question was massive. It's comparable in size to a wheel on a wagon.

He threw the shuriken only for it to break into four individual points.

They shredded a nearby tree before reforming in his hand for the next attack.

For the remainder of the day, the two wizards proceeded to hone this new level of understanding for maker magic.

Earlier with Natsu

Natsu was in a rocky area with Meredy. They chose this location just In Case of any stray lightning attacks.

The rocky terrain will allow the lightning to be safely absorbed and disparate into the earth.

And it helps to avoid a forest fire that could get out of control.

This primarily affects Natsu as he can't eat his own flames.

"So you ready, Meredy?"

"As ready as I'll ever be!"

"That what I want to hear, and remember we're only doing this so you can regulate the power needed for a spell. No need to overexert yourself."

"Got it," Natsu stood beside her, charging his lightning magic in his hand with Meredy mirroring him.

Charging up a small amount of magic energy, Meredy unleashes a lighting ballast of the rocks. Causing a small creator to form from the force of the blast.

Natsu built up lighting magic in his hand before calling out a spell, "LIGHTNING DRAGON IRON FIST." He charged at the rock smashing his fist against the rocks, causing a small explosion only to leave a similar-sized hole as Meredy.

"Whoa, what kind of spell was that?"

"That was my first attempt at lightning dragon slayer magic."

"What now?"

"I'm trying to combine slayer magic with my lightning magic, but I have no idea how long that could take.

"Have you thought of combining your fire and lightning magic?"

"Yes, I have, but I want to gain control of lightning as whole new magic."

"Why?"

"Not sure if you know this, but being a fire dragon slayer, I'm immune to fire and heat and can eat any flame that I didn't make to replenish my magic. If I can separate into two magic, I can become immune to lightning as well."

"That sounds like a lot of work to me."

"That because it is, and I have a feeling unless I consume real dragon lighting, this will take an awfully long time to master."

"How far have you come with your lightning magic?"

"Not much I can use. It is a basic offensive attack. spells"

"Anything else?"

"Well, I've been trying to use lightning body spell but with no luck."

"Lightning body?"

"Lightning body is a spell that turns your body into lighting, allowing the user to travel great distances in relatively small amounts of time. For example, it would outpace a train, so my motion sickness won't be a problem when traveling."

"How far have you come along with it?" she was very curious about this as she would have to walk everywhere or use slow transportation.

"Not very. I can move about 50 feet at a time before I return to my normal self."

"If you master, I assume lightning dragon slayer magic would that make you dual-element slayers?"

"Yes, but I have no idea how long that will take me, and I doubt Osiris will give me a hand in the matter."

"Who?"

Natsu opens up his coat to reveal his godsend mark.

"this mark is proof I have earned a god's favor bestowing me great power, my gift for this mark with other flame types as far dragons are concerned."

"That's amazing!"

"Yeah, it is but enough chit-chat we have the training to do" he got a nod from her.

For the remainder of the day, they continue their practice.

Meredy got a better grasp of controlling the output of her spell, and Natsu likewise got a better grip on this new slayer magic.

Unfortunately, he was pretty sure he would have to consume Laxus's lightning to give him a better understanding of dragon's lightning.

The next evening

Lucy right now was in a stupor as she was having trouble getting a job for her rent when a certain exceed brought a particular contest to her attention.

The next day

Everyone gathered for the miss fairy tail contest, with only a few females not in the competition.

Ultear was one of them sitting on the sideline.

"I really wish I could join, but I don't like the idea of being a statue when I can easily counter it."

"Yeah, I just hope Evergreen doesn't get any funny ideas," he said

"If she does, that's what you're here for."

"What are you two talking about," Gray said, sitting beside them.

"Nothing!' they said in unison.

Gray would have tried to pry some information out, but the contest was just starting.

The contest went like before, with each female showing off what makes them a beauty.

A familiar voice cut everyone off before the origin walk on stage, wearing a green dress.

The realization the thunder legion was back sent chills down everyone's spines.

Before them, Lucy was turned to stone causing everyone to make tracks fast.

Makarov went on the same rant as before, only to be cut off by Laxus.

"Laxus!" Natsu shouts, only for Evergreen to shine her eyes on him.

Fearing for his mate's safety, he covered her eyes before he was turned to stone.

"NATSU," the remaining wizard shouts.

Ultear sitting down with Natsu's eyes covering her.

If you paid close attention, you would see tears streaming down her eyes.

Unfortunately, Natsu wasn't the only male caught by her eyes as Gray was frozen as well.

"With those two out of the way, if you want all these ladies returned to normal old man, you'll surrender the guild to me."

"Or you can try to defeat us if you won't surrender. You have three hours," Evergreen stated.

Laxus explained the rules of this battle before them, and the thunder legion disappeared in a flash of lightning.

In a rage, those who remained ran out of the guild intending to end this battle.

The battle of fairy tail has begun.
