Hi everyone! It's been awhile, so I thought to update with a new idea. I've been wanting to write this one shot for quite awhile, so I finally decided to sit down and write it out. Had this idea since last summer, now here you go! Enjoy!
Title: The Misconceptions About His Glasses
Type: Story - One Shot
Summary: Everyone who was close to Conan knew his thick glasses were fake, but never said anything about it. But oh look, someone committed a crime in front of the boy when his glasses were off. Did the culprit really think he wouldn't be able to identify a face?
Idea: From personal experience with people I know who can't see my face from a few feet without their glasses on.
Sub-Ideas: Look for the rest at the bottom.

Glasses, they're really a useful item. Since the day they were first created and later distributed to the public, a number of people who once opened their eyes to find a world of blurs were now welcomed to the sight of vivid wonders. The leaves on the trees, the cracks on the streets, the birds flying high in the sky, they were no longer vague blobs but now identifiable shapes and colors. Glasses truly were a beautiful creation given to those who could no longer admire the beauty in front of their eyes the same way as before. It was heartbreaking to say the least, when those who didn't have them couldn't even see a face from merely an arms length, but now they could gaze at everything and especially their loved ones with the gift of glasses.
Wearing glasses today is more than just being able to see. It's a style, a fashion statement, and it's a choice given to all. For one young Edogawa Conan, secretly shrunken teen detective named Kudo Shinichi, he didn't exactly have this choice. The first time he put on his father's glasses, he was welcomed to the sight of what his father saw on a daily bases, a world where he couldn't identify anything. As a detective, that was his greatest asset, the ability to see and identify clues in order to solve a case. He removed the glass and those same frames now became a disguise, a way to conceal his identity. For Conan, these glasses were no fashion statement, nor were they a gift to see the world for its beauty. They were a shield to hide behind and be protected from the recognition of his former glories. Later on, with the help of Agasa Hakase, they became a tool to see beyond what the average person with glasses could see. They became an enhanced weapon of sight, a way for the truth to be discovered beyond the abilities of its expected use.
It was during one science class when the class of room 1-B of Teitan Elementary were asked to create a project on any topic they wanted and present their findings within a week's time. The Shounen Tantei Dan decided to do a project about Glasses, since they wondered what it was like to wear them all the time. Now the group knew that Conan's glasses were fake, they have on more than one occasion used them to track down the others when some sort of case happened, or when someone was taken. Those glasses were really useful in more ways than one. But the group wondered what it was like to wear glasses and see the world as if they were constantly underwater. So, they presented their idea to Kobayashi-sensei and she agreed to let them use several of her old pairs of glasses. So for an hour a day until the due project date, they wore glasses and attempted to do activities and observe the world around them. It was surprising how little they could see. It definitely wasn't the way the animations made it out to be, there wasn't any doubling of sight or squinting of eyes into a three shape when removing the glasses. Their vision just adjusted back pretty well. It was surprising to learn that with heavier prescription glasses, it was hard to identify a lot of things. What use to be easy to read from less than a few centimeters was nothing but lines with some sort of shape. They knew there was kanji on the newspaper, but their eyes just couldn't tell exactly what they were seeing. As for faces, they couldn't even see the features of the person in front of them. It was a bit scary almost. Imagine if someone almost as blind as that wasn't able to see the person who committed a crime right in front of them? How did their sensei ever tolerate this vision without her glasses? After the project and their reported findings, they all agreed to do their best to take care of their eyes and be the best detectives with the clearest eyesight ever. Haibara Ai and Conan both smiled and shook their heads a bit at that, they really did hope they'd never need glasses when they got older.
Now it just so happened that Conan was out with Mouri-ojiisan today. Ran and her karate club had a mini training camp and so it left the two to fend for themselves. They both were terrible cooks to begin with and had originally planned to go to another restaurant and do their routine, but a friend happened to reach out to Kogoro and they were currently at their place having lunch and catching up. This friend had other friends over who had come as a surprise visit, so it became a little reunion for his friend and a party for Kogoro who was treated to drinks. Conan noted how a majority of the people, with the exception of Kogoro, himself, his friend, and a lady in her early thirties had prescription glasses on. He kept looking in the direction of the lady who kept fidgeting about through the whole of the conversations. The inner detective instinct kicked in and eventually he felt something was going to happen, but wasn't sure what. Several hours later, an incapacitated Mouri, a session of in home Karaoke, and they all parted ways.
The very next day, they went to visit the friend's place because Kogoro left something there but they discover his friend was killed. That led to a whole case, Megure-keibu got involved and they all got the suspects together. Nothing was concrete, so they dismissed them and told them to be on standby. But Conan, knowing there was something up with the lady from yesterday, followed the clues and ended up cornering her alone. There at her home, he finds the lady who was very fidgety when he first came to visit and barged into her place wanting to look around. The lady panicked and did something unexpected to Conan. She quickly removed his glasses and broke them completely. He was stunned by this a bit and that moment of pause was all she needed to gag him and put him to sleep. The next thing he sees when he wakes up is the lady who he thought was suspicious also gagged and another lady, one with glasses, was standing atop her and had already ended her life. The previous suspect was now another victim. She noticed the boy was awake, witnessing this little site, but she wasn't concerned. She simply smiled and quietly left, abandoning him and the victim who knows where.
Now in the culprit's view, once the lady she was threatening had done what was told of her, she glanced at the broken glasses and noticed how quite thick they were. This boy was probably like her and her peers, nearly blind without them. So she figured, even if he did wake up and witness this deed, he wouldn't be able to identify her simply because he wouldn't be able to see her face. The need for glasses was vital to seeing the world as it was to identify who was talking to you. She slightly pitied the boy cause he would never be able to see a face without the crutch of glasses as an aid. Laser surgery could probably fix that if he were richer, but for now, he was just like her. Lost in a world where the truth was obscured from view. A world where her sight could be easily taken away with a single shattering of her crutches called glasses.
At least, that's what she thought. Several hours later and she was being taken into custody with the boy looking at her hard. She couldn't understand, how did he identify her so easily if he was like her? Was he truly just a great detective like the one he stays with? Before being taken away, she mouthed, how? He seemed to know what she meant and he only quietly mouthed back two words, fake glasses. Oh how foolish she was, not stopping to consider that there were those who actually wanted to wear what was her crutch, which to others would be a desired design. She laughed bitterly at her mistake and was taken away.
Conan, he could only watch in a stoic despair that the criminal wasn't in any way repentant of her crimes. He also realized that glasses seemed to have different meanings to those whose face they rest upon. For the lady, she saw it as a tool and opportunity to get away with wrongdoings because those just like her were obscured from viewing the truth. For him, they were a tool of concealment and at the same time, a way for the truth to be revealed. This was one case that he would remember to appreciate this gift and remember the misconceptions about glasses people had, and maybe use it to his advantage like today.

Sub-Ideas: The culprit committed a crime of some sort, no specifics what.
- First part talks about what life with blurry eyes looks like.
- Second part talks about Conan's second hand experience, mostly through word of mouth and trying on real thick prescription glasses.
- Third part talks about the criminal who believes him to be totally blind, possibly from media portraying the total dependency of those who can't see well or maybe from people the culprit knew personally.
- Last part shows how he is able to testify to the crime's of the culprit and the utter disbelief that the culprit's ideas about those with glasses was false.

So I wanted to try this idea based on the fact that he has glasses. No one ever really addresses the fact that they're fake, mostly since everyone knows and accepts this by now. But what about those committing a crime using this belief of total blindness due to not having glasses to their advantage? The idea mostly came from people around me who do have glasses and can't see stuff once they take it off. For the most part they can see fine, but if they need to focus on something, they have to squint or narrow their eyes to even see something kinda clear. But yeah, that's it. Another idea that I just ran with.
It's kinda messy to me, but I dunno, what did you think? Feel free to let me know in the comments. As always, thank you so much for reading! See you next chapter! :D
