Chapter 5: Bring Me To Life

Annie groans as she wakes up. The throbbing pain in her abdomen brings her round. She blinks a few times, her eyes adjusting to the dim lighting of the room. The musty smell of the bunker mixed with that familiar smell of antiseptic. She slowly remembers where she is.

In the corner of her eye, she sees Dean slouched in a chair facing her, his eyes sharp and unyielding. A gun balanced in his hand and his finger played with the trigger as if he was trying to decide if she was a threat or just a pain in his ass.

"Well sleeping beauty is finally awake" Dean mutters, his voice filled with sarcasm "tried to break into the wrong place didn't you."

Annie tries to sit up but the pain slices through her like a hot knife. She winces and sinks back into the mattress.

"Hey, easy" Sam enters the room holding a glass of water which he places down next to Annies's bed. He crouches down beside her "you're hurt, don't push yourself."

"Yeah, no thanks to that guy" Annie glares at Dean.

"Hey" Dean snaps "you got yourself in this mess. You're the one who decided breaking into our place was a brilliant idea. You should be thanking us for not putting a bullet in you the moment we heard you."

Sam shoots Dean a glare silencing him.

Before Annie could respond her gaze shifts. A figure emerged from the shadows. His eyes seemed to glow faintly in the dim light and his trench coat made him look oddly out of place. Annies's breath hitched as she locked eyes with him. "You're not human" she says.

Castiel tilts his head slightly, his expression unreadable. "No" he says simply.

There was something unsettling yet comforting in the way he looked at her. Not with suspicion, like Dean or concern like Sam but with a quiet understanding. It was if he could see right through her, peeling back the layers she had worked so hard to keep hidden.

"He's an angel" Sam explains.

Annies eyes widen. She'd heard stories, whispers of beings that walked among humans, wielding unimaginable powers. Her mind snaps back to her current situation. The confusion clouds her mind. How was she alive? She must have been on deaths door when she broke into the bunker.

"How am I alive?" Annie asks.

Sam and Dean look at each other. Sam gestures to Castiel "Cas healed you, he used his grace".

Annies's face whitened "no, that's not possible" her voice grows louder as the panic sets in "that's not right, you can't just …" she shakes her head "he can't just…"

Sam goes to steady Annie, but she flinches away.

"I need to get out of here" Annie whispers. She swings her legs over the side of the bed with all her might. She cries out as the pain in her abdomen stops her in her tracks.

"You're going to hurt yourself" Dean warns, his tone edged with annoyance.

"Stay away from me" Annie snaps, her voice rising. Her vison blurs again and her breathing becomes rapid. She tries to stand but her legs give out and she crumples back into the bed.

Castiel sighs softly moving closer "I'm sorry but this is for your own good". Before Annie could protest, he reaches out and gently places two fingers on her forehead. A wave of calm washes over her and her body goes limp. Castle catches Annie before returning her to bed.

"You couldn't have done that 10 minutes ago" Dean asks.

"She needed to know the truth and now she needs to heal" Castiel mutters as he watches over Annie.

"Well, my shift is finished, if you need me, I'll be…somewhere" Dean sighs as he pushes himself out of his chair. He glances over at Annie before leaving the room.
